Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Vayeilech where Moshe 'went out,' to the people and told them he is 120 today and can no longer go out and come in.
Moshe uses the word 'Vayeilech,'. - ''Went,' for this was the last day that Moshe would live and the last day Moshe would go out to the people. From now on,Joshuah would take over as leader, but HaShem leads the Jewish people.
It is an interesting word that Moshe uses, the word 'Vayeilech,' for usually people go to their leader, but here, our leader 'Went,' to us.This shows the beautiful humility of Moshe Rabbeinu that even on his last day,the 7th of Adar,he still wanted so desperately to serve HaShem and his people.
Moshe so wanted to enter the Holy Land.He begged HaShem so many times. Our Rabbis say he pleaded with HaShem 515 times, equivalent to the Parsha of the name 'Va'Eschanan,' yet HaShem said 'No.' HaShem always knows best and though we feel Moshe so served HaShem and his people,he was not to go over the Jordan. We seldom understand HaShem's Wish but we know that HaShem , Who Created all things, knows what is best and what must be.
I find it interesting that Moshe used the word 'Vayeilech,' for I feel, within this word is a sadness on Moshe's side, for he had to go to the people and tell them he was going to pass on.How sad that the people he served so faithfully, never thought if they 'Went,' to HaShem 'Vayeilech,' - 'Went,' to HaShem to plead Moshe's cause as Moshe had so often pleaded theirs they could help him.I am not saying that would have changed things, but Moshe deserved our help as he so often helped us.
Moshe mentions also that he can 'no longer go out or come in,' yet 'his eye was not dimmed,' so it shows that it wasn't because of age that he could no longer go out to the people, but there was another reason.Firstly,he no longer had permission anymore, for this was now to be Joshuah's path to lead. And secondly,I think there was also another reason. The very fact that 'his eye was not dimmed,' shows that his physical body had reached such a high level of spirituality and holiness ,that he needed to continue his journey spiritually, even with his physical body.HaShem Himself, took Moshe's Holy Neshomele for HaShem felt it unworthy for an angel to do it as Moshe had become so very Holy.
Before Moshe passed away,HaShem took Moshe up to the Mount Nebo to see the land,so Moshe could Bless the land with his own eyes.
On Moshe's last day,Moshe miraculously wrote 13 Torah Scrolls, one for each of the 12 tribes and another to be kept for safekeeping.
While other humans,on their last day on Earth might think to follow physical pleasures and pursuits, not our beloved holy Moshe, who spent his last day, still serving HaShem and our people and trying to ensure that we keep HaShem's Holy Commandments and keep holy.
There is no man like Moshe and never will be.He remained selfless to his last breath.
It is time that we all pray this Shabbos, just before Yom Kippur, that Moshe be Blessed with the highest Blessings.
In Egypt.before HaShem saved us through Moshe's leadership,Moshe wanted us to be given the opportunity to keep Shabbos and so,tried to institute a rest day for us from slavery which was called 'The Day of Moses,' so that ,already then,we could try follow HaShem's Law of Shabbos, let us this Shabbos also devote our thoughts and Brochas to send Moshe every Blessing possible and pray for Moshe as he so often prayed to save us.
For HaShem's sake, let us be the ones who finally 'Vayeilech,' 'Went' out, toward HaShem and so follow,as an entire Jewish Nation,HaShem and His Torah Law.As Moshe so often 'Vayeilech,' - 'Went' out to HaShem, let us learn from his example, and go out to HaShem, keeping His Holy Law given to us by his faithful servant Moshe.
This coming Yom Kippur, let us also mend all roads to HaShem, praying for forgiveness and closeness with our Beautiful HaShem HaKadosh Baruch Hu,The Holy One Blessed Be He.
With Love to HaShem,I wish You a beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love and to all,a beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love and well over the Fast.
