Our Parsha this Shabbos is 'Parshat Shelach.'It involves the incident with the spies,who went to spy the land of Canaan and unfortunately brought an unfavorable report.
If we look at the word 'Shelach,' it is joined straight after it by the next word 'Lecha,' 'For you.' In other words,'Send for you.' HaShem did not need spies to know how the land was.It was people who needed it.Thus,HaShem says ,'Send for you.'HaShem planned us to go into Canaan all along,so it was us who had doubts of faith.This is where problems always start.We lose faith in HaShem,no matter how much HaShem does for us.Though HaShem told Moses to send spies in,HaShem knew our doubts.The seeds of doubt always come from a lack of faith.HaShem had shown us so much,bringing plagues on the Egyptians,freeing us from an impossible bondage and splitting the Yam Suf so that we could walk to safety.HaShem gave us sweet dew every morning that blanketed in softness a tray for the beautiful Mannah that HaShem so tenderly gave us withouut fail and provided for us sweet drinking water in a wasteland.Yet we doubted and lost faith.HaShem had done so much for us yet we were not fully grateful,because if we were,we would have deeply appreciated all that HaShem had done and known without doubt,that HaShem has prepared the land for us too.
The same is today.We are given so much,without even realizing it-beautiful sites,sweet singing birds and a colourful world around us to touch,yet we still look for more and are not satisfied.
We need to learn how to truly appreciate all HaShem gives us and really say 'Thank You.'Instead of rushing through life for what is tomorrow,we need to focus on each beautiful moment that HaShem gives us today.If we can just stop the rush and live in each moment,looking around us and truly focusing on how much we really have,that perhaps others may not have,we might just start to truly appreciate HaShem HaKadosh Baruch Hu.When we realize that HaShem is there in every moment and that HaShem has taken care of every moment,even at the beginning of Creation,we will never lose faith and trust in whatever HaShem tells us to do.
This was what the spies should have done.They did not appreciate all HaShem had openly done for us,in going above the natural Laws of Creation.We need to realize that HaShem works above these Laws and with HaShem,all is possible.
The. Word 'Shelach Lecha,' in Gematriah comes to 388 which is 3+8+8=19 and 1+9 =10 - the 10 Commandments and the 10 pronouncements that HaShem made in Creating Creation.All is intertwined with trusting HaShem in faith.It is our total faith in HaShem that HaShem Created all things at Creation and has taken care of all things still to come,that needs to pervade all we are and do so that when we keep HaShem's Commandments ,we know that HaShem knows what He is doing.With each of the 10 Commandments and all Commandments that HaShem has given us,we continue in harmony, the faith in HaShem's Creation and so we will always have and 'Send out' our faith in HaShem.
