Parashas Vayechi

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Vayechi. It is the last Parsha of the Book of Bereishis.
In this Parsha, Yaakov calls Yosef and has him assure his Father that he will bury his Father in Canaan and not in Egypt . Yaakov knew that it was only Yosef as Viceroy, who could arrange permission form Pharaoh , to leave Egypt for this.
Egypt in Hebrew is 'Mitzrayim,' which means 'Borders,' for once a person came to Egypt, they were as good as locked in ( even spiritually into their negativity and Tum'a Impurity ) and could only leave on permission of the Pharaoh. This can also explained why Yosef couldn't leave all those years and return home to his Father, when Yosef was first sold into Egypt. Egypt was a place of very low morals and filled with Negative Tum'a impurity.
A little time later, Yaakov felt his time approaching and called again for his son Yosef, where he Blessed Yosef's sons, as one of his own.So do we Bless our children on Shabbos to be like Ephraim and Manasseh , who, though in exile, among other nations, still kept to holy Yiddishkeit.
Again, Yaakov tells Yosef, to ensure that Yaakov is not buried in Egypt . Yaakov feared the Egyptians would worship his body, and so Yaakov did not want to be part of Avodah Zarah.Yaakov also foresaw the plague of lice that would hit Egypt later on and didn't want his body to be part of the dust that would become lice. Also, Yaakov , being a most Holy Man, knew that to be buried in the Holy Land, meant that those Jews who are buried there , are the first for Techias Ha Meisim - Resurrection of the Dead , and of course Canaan is a Holy Land above any other.
Then, Yaakov calls for his sons at the time close to his passing, when a person is closely near prophecy and was just about to tell his sons when Mashiach would come , in the words ' Hei'Asfu Ve Agidah Lachem Eit Asher Yikra Etchem B'Acharit Ha Yamim Hikavtzu,' - ' Assemble yourselves and I will tell you what will befall you in the End of Days Gather yourselves,' (Bereishis Mem Tes Aleph to Beis - Genesis 49:1-2),when HaShem Sent a Malach to have him forget the day of the Final Redemption to keep it hidden so we will continue to become Holy and not just wait when the time is right, to do what needs be done. The very fact that Yaakov tells his sons to assemble and gather and that this statement in the Torah,is related to The End of Days, shows that The Children of Yaakov, and his descendants as Jews can bring Mashiach, if we would all only assemble and gather together as one people, under HaShem and HaShem's Laws of Torah .
Yaakov then proceeds to Bless his sons and when he finished, ever so holy Yaakov passed away.
Yosef approached Pharaoh to ask permission to leave Egypt to bury his Father , and at first Pharaoh did not want to let Yosef go, but Yosef reminded Pharaoh of an agreement they had previously had , when Yosef and Pharaoh kept in confidence to themselves that Yosef knew one more language than Pharaoh ( for it was the task of the Pharaoh to know all 70 languages of the World, yet Yosef knew them all as well as the holy tongue of Hebrew, which Pharaoh was unable to learn, for it was too holy and so, on this agreement that Yosef and Pharaoh keep it to themselves, Pharaoh let Yosef go and have Yaakov buried in Canaan.
We are told in the Gemorrah and Midrash Rabbah how, when Yaakov was being buried, Eisav contested the burial site of The Cave Machpelah (where Adam Ve Chava and Avraham Ve Sarah and Now Leah were buried , standing up , whereupon Naphtali ran back to Egypt to bring and prove in the document agreement, that this Site, belonged to Yaakov. We are also told that Chushim, Dan's deaf son , realized the commotion against his Grand-Father Yaakov, and Chushim , saying that his Grand-Father's body should not lie there in disgrace till fast fleet-footed Naphtali returns, and so he took a club and killed Eisav, thus Yaakov's burial and Eisav's death and burial took place on the same day, fulfilling their Mother Rivka's prophecy that she would not want to be bereft of them both on the same day (Bereishis Chaf Zayin Mem Hei - Genesis 27 : 45).
After Yaakov's passing, the brothers of Yosef got scared that now Yosef would take revenge, and made up the story as if Yaakov had said that they must be forgiven and not dealt with harshly by Yosef. Yosef understood they were just talking from fear, and Yosef Ha Tzaddik , again shows his worth, by not blaming them , but understanding that he had to be sent before so as to sustain his family and so , they were comforted.
We are then told that Yosef lived One Hundred and Ten Years ( just ten years short of the One Hundred and Twenty years, losing those ten years due to allowing his brother Yehudah , to refer to their Father as 'your servant My Father ' when Yehudah was pleading for Binyamin, and Yosef never objected these ten times, so he lost ten years of his life as a Father must never be allowed to be referred to as that but he is to be granted the utmost respect , adjuring his family that he is not to be left in Egypt when the Children of Israel leave Egypt, but is to be taken back to Canaan when we leave Egypt after the time of slavery.
Yosef tells to his brothers, the words that the one who will, in the future come to redeem the Jews (Moshe) will say 'Pakod Yifkod / Pakadti,' - G-D Will surely remember you,' so when the time comes they will know the true redeemer Moshe when he comes. And so, this is exactly what HaShem told Moshe to say to the Children of Israel when HaShem sent Moishe to redeem them ' Pakod Pakadti ' (Shemos Gimmel Tes Zayin - Exodus 3:16).
Yosef then passes away and is placed in a coffin in Egypt. Our Midrash tells how Yosef's body was placed in the Nile and how Moshe lifted his body before we left Egypt,so as to fulfill Yosef's wish and word.
And so ends the Parsha and the First Book of the Torah, The Book of Bereishis.
We see that the Parsha is about the passing of Yaakov, yet it is called 'Vayechi,' - ' And Lived,' . This is similar to the Parsha of Sarah's passing , that was called , Chayei Sarah,' - 'The Life of Sarah.' When a very Holy person passes on , they are not looked upon as dying but passing on to their next stage of Spiritual Climbing toward HaShem, where their soul continues to grow in holiness . Death , is not an end, but a continuation of 'Chai - Chayei - Vayechi,'. - 'Life,' true life , the journey of the soul toward HaShem . That is true 'Living .'This is how it is for us all .
These holy people in Bereishis , lived a life of Torah , a life for G-D , not for themselves , and so they lived true living and continued into the next stage toward G-D .
True Living is Living to work toward Eternity and Mashiach , who will come at The End of Days.
We see this proven in the very first word of this Parsha and its name - 'Vayechi,' which in Gematriah, comes to 6+10+8+10=34 and 3+4=7 which is the Number of Mashiach and the Gematrical value of the word Mashiach, showing how true living is , to work to earn and head in the direction of Mashiach and the End of Days.
We can emulate these holy people by living each moment for G-D and not for ourselves. Each day G-D Gives us , is a gift and a beautiful opportunity to bring our very Guf - Body to Heaven .No day should ever be wasted on physical meaningless pursuits and pathways that lead only to self-serving physical pleasures and personal wants , as in the end , those won't get one anywhere .
The only path to make each moment in time , an eternity of the soul, is the path of each moment in our lives of going G-D's Way. That is the only true Way. Let not the physicality tempt you to think it is the right track, for physicalities have no Spiritual climb unless they are directed upward toward HaShem .
'Vayechi,' - ' Living' is a continuous path of learning and climbing to G-D and to Truly Live, is to Truly Live in HaShem .
Start to Truly 'Vayechi,' 'Live' today and let your every step be a step up to G-D and His Love that sweetens Heaven .
I wish HaShem With Love, a Most Special Shabbos Kodesh with love , and to all, a most special Shabbos Kodesh with love.
