Our Parsha this Shabbos is 'Lech Lecha,' where HaShem tells Avram to go from his birthplace and all he had come to know and grow up with and leave for the land of Canaan (Israel) .
This is quite a test of faith,to leave behind all one is comfortable with and put one's faith totally in HaShem's hands. This is a true test of faith and love for HaShem. But this is the true start of true knowledge,to leave what one knows and realize that we don't know anything at all.To start out on the path of wisdom, one needs to be humble and be a vessel for HaShem to fill us with knowledge and wisdom.
King Solomon, in Proverbs 8:22 ,says of Wisdom,,'The L-RD made me (wisdom) at the beginning of His way,the first of His works of old.' So the pathway to HaShem starts with leaving what we think we know and totally following HaShem and His Commandments ,for only HaShem can know what we need to do.That starts by setting out ,from all we think we know and putting our lives totally at HaShem's guiding Hand.
Avram had become a man who had found the One and Only True G-D. And now it was time to teach others the truth. Our sages compare Avram to a bottle of perfume that needs to spread itself outwards by opening itself up to the world outside so that his fragrance could sweeten the world and not just Ur Kasdim, where he was.The Torah is a Tree Of Life to those who grasp it and its branches are to spread over the world ,bringing the light of HaShem to the darkest corners. This we can do,by leaving ourselves behind and becoming a total selfless vessel for HaShem.
But who does HaShem ask Avram (and us ) to do this for?The answer to that is in the very words of the Parsha, for G-D says to Avram 'Lech Lecha,' - 'Go for you.' This commandment to Avram and to us all,is for us.To follow it,brings us closer to HaShem and so,closer to Gan Eiden and Shamaim where we will be ,not only Blessed, but be within the Blessing itself. We need to leave the physical ties of this world and continue ever upward toward Holiness and so,be the Blessing.
But what does it mean,to be within the Blessing? There is a great difference, between just remaining in the same place and doing good for the sake of bettering what is outside ourselves, yet leaving the part of HaShem that is within us,down here and actually lifting the beautiful Neshoma that G-D gives us,to be a part of HaShem and to live within HaShem in forever total peace and harmony and goodness.HaShem Creates for all of us,a world that each of us see from our own perception.Being within the Blessing,is taking that very world and ourselves and lifting it up to HaShem and being at the centre of it and a true part of it.This will bless all around it and so,will the fragrant vessel, that we have opened ourselves to be, to HaShem, raised in turn. But first,it starts with leaving our own wishes and physical wants behind and 'Lech Lecha,' going upward and forward toward HaShem for us - 'Lech Lecha' 'Go for you.'HaShem does not do this for His own sake but for ours. Each one of us has this choice. No matter how comfortable we may be,doing it our own way, only HaShem knows the true needed way ,that we have to travel. So start,by emptying yourself of your own wants and desires, and allow Wisdom from HaShem to fill you and guide you, from His Tree of Knowledge ,The Holy Torah that will return us ,for our own sake,to the beautiful and peaceful Gan Eiden and Shamaim of HaShem. The words 'Lech Lecha,' can also be translated as 'Go to you,' for leaving the physical desires behind, we can find the true essence of ourselves with, that G-Dly spark within, that is good and it is to toward that ,we must go,to the true inner one that is really who we are.
With deep love,as I love you HaShem,I wish HaShem a Sweet and Holy Shabbos Kodesh with love and to all,a holy Shabbos Kodesh with love.
