Parashas Shelach

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Shelach.
It tells of the sad happening of the spies that went to spy out Canaan and the result of their lack of Emunah and Loshon Horah of the Sweet Holy Land HaShem Set for us.
The first part of this Sedra talks of the Spies and what happened subsequently and the result of their evil talk. The Sedra then shows Moshe's faithful plea for us to HaShem and HaShem's Decree for us to continue wandering in the Wilderness till the fortieth year.
HaShem then discusses meal offerings and libations and then Goes on to tell us of the setting aside of Challah given to the Kohain ,at a time when we eat the Bread of the Land of Canaan. This Halacha usually concerns when the majority of our people reside in the Holy Land. Today, we do 'Le Hafrish Challah,' where we take a portion of the dough and ,seeing as we cant give it to the Kohanim at this time , we burn it.
Next,HaShem discusses sins of idol-worship ,
Just after that, The Torah talks of the Sabbath Desecrator who went and gathered wood/sticks of the Sabbath and his punishment.
The Parsha ends with the Holy Mitzvah of Tzitzit, the four cornered garment we wear with strings on each of the four corners, that forms the Third Verse of the Shema Prayer coming directly from The Torah , which are these particular verses ,which are to remind us of all the Mitzvos when we look at this holy garment.
How does this garment remind us of all the 613 Commandments? The Hebrew word Tzitzis in Gematriah comes to 600 and with the 8 strings on each corner and the 5 knots on each string , we get 600+8+5 = 613 in reference to the 613 Mitzvos of the Torah for a Jew . Also, when we make each corner with the windings of the strings,on each corner we first do 7 windings then a double knot then 8 windings then a double knot then 11 windings then a double knot and then 13 windings and a double knot. Taking these first 3 numbers of the number of windings 7 + 8 + 11 = we get 26 , which is the exact total of the Gematrical value of HaShem's Name 'Yud Key Vav Key,' and the remaining number 13 refers to the age at which a Jewish male is obligated and held totally accountable in the keeping of the Mitzvos of the Torah as a mature adult . Thus is the garment of Tzitzis, worn by a male , every day and with every step he takes. The Haftorah for this Parsha is from Yehoshua 2:1-24 and also concerns the sending of the two spies (who was actually the same Kaleiv and Pinchas who comes up soon in Torah) by Joshua ,to the city of Yericho.
We know that HaShem Knew the land is good and sweet so why the need to send spies and what really happened here?
The Sedra tells us how HaShem Spoke to Moshe and Said , " Shelach Lecha Anashim," and in these words, we see, it was not HaShem Who Wanted spies at all. In fact, HaShem Wanted us to trust Him and His Gift of the Land. The words "Shelach Lecha," means " SEND FOR YOU," in other words, HaShem is saying ' I Don't Want you to send spies so if you do, send them for "Lecha' - "For You," not for Me . But why would HaShem refer this comment to Moshe? We are sure that Moshe trusted HaShem implicitly and would never doubt the goodness of the land, yet a delegation of the people came and told Moshe they want the land spied out and Moshe came and asked HaShem and this was HaShem's Answer," Shelach Lecha," - "Send them for you," not for Me.Moshe tried hard to persuade the people not to send them, but the people did not relent. So Moshe chose with his feelings of love of HaShem -with the Word "Anashim,' - "Men" this word specifically put , so that it refers to Men of Renown and trusted in stature as representatives to be trusted , hoping the spies would see the beautiful sweet land that HaShem was Giving us and they would bring back to the people a positive report , as they were distinguished men .
What is interesting to note is that in each of the names is a hint of the rebel within , except for for the Tribe of Ephraim Hoshea ben Nun , ( where his name Hosheah referred to 'Saving,' ) and Kaleiv ben Yefunneh ( where Kaleiv referred to 'lev' heart that is pure.
But within the names of the rest of the spies, was the hint of rebellion. For the Tribe of Reuvein , Shamuah be Zaccur ( where Shamuah refers to ' Shema ' the hearing of negativity ) , for the Tribe of Simeon , Shafat ben Hori ,(where Shefet refers to verbosity ) , for the Tribe of Issachar , Yigal ben Joseph (where 'Yagon' means sorrow or grief and 'Yageiah' means weary _) ,for the Tribe of Binyamin ,Palti ben Rafu (where 'Pelet' means to remove or give away or reject ) ,for the Tribe of Zevulun ,Gaddiel ben Sodi ( where 'Gadfan' means to Blaspheme and 'Gadah' means to cut away ) and for the Tribe of Manasseh, also the name Gaddi son of Susi (also 'blaspheme,' ) and for the Tribe of Dan, Ammiel son of Gemali ( 'Imlel' means to make miserable ) and for the Tribe of Asher, Sethur ben Michael ( where 'Setur,' means to contradict or destroy) and for the Tribe of Naphtali , Nachbi ben Vofsi ( where 'Nachba' means to hide and 'Nachbat' means to beat with a weapon of stick and 'Nachbash' means to imprison) and for the Tribe of Gad, Geuel son of Machi ( (the 'U' sound can be a Vav letter in Hebrew, where ' Ga'avtan ' means arrogant ) . And so these were the 12 spies that spied out the land and brought back an evil report. We see that the Levites were not among the spies and thus were not punished with the punishment that the others had as a result of this incident.
Moshe strengthened Hosheah that he should not be influenced by the spies and thus added an extra 'Yud' from HaShem's Name to strengthen him , thus calling him Yehoshua - Joshua . Moshe asks them to enter from the South, knowing it would show them the most fertile route and also this was the route Avraham traveled at first in hiss life time, hoping his merit may strengthen these spies.
From the moment they entered the Land , the spies , except for Joshuah and Caleb , looked for every excuse to put the Land down, hoping they could continue living where they were and not have to come into the land and fend for themselves and have the responsibility that the Land would bring . When they met the three giants Ahiman , Sheshai and Talmai they were frightened and afterwards described then as being. Feeling as though they were grasshoppers in their own sight. Note the word 'their own sight, ' suggesting that they were not as such grasshoppers to the giants, but to the spies ' own selves,' due to the spies lack of Emunah.
HaShem had caused a plague on the inhabitants of the area, so the spies would be safe, yet the spies reported the opposite, that it was a land that devoured its own inhabitants, which was most hurtful to HaShem, for HaShem had looked after them and would have done everything for them.
When the Spies returned after 40 days with a huge beautiful cluster of grapes, their report started positive, so as to get the people's attention, and then went into a complete slander of the land HaShem was Giving us, even mentioning our arch enemy Amalek, to make us fear more.
That night the people were in a panic and frenzy and cried bitterly, for actually no reason at all.
So HaShem Said on that night which was the Ninth of Av, that seeing they cried for no reason on this night, HaShem would in the future make it a night of crying and bitterness, and so this Ninth of Av Tisha B'Av through the centuries became our day of tragedies, like losing both Temples on this very day, the Final Solution date of the Holocaust, the exile from Spain, Chmielnitzky Massacres and other terrible tragedies.
HaShem also ordained that on this day every year in the 40 years in the Wilderness, on this exact date, 15 000 will lie in their graves and perish, a year for each day the Spies spied out the land and so it continued for 40 years on this Ninth of Av
Finally on the 40th year, the people prepared to lay down in their graves between the ages ordained, and they didn't die. Thee people thought they had miscalculated and so for the next 6 nights they did the same thing till the 15th of Av , found they were still alive in the morning, and so they realized HaShem Had Relented and all those of the age mentioned in the punishing decree, were no longer and so the 15th of Av became a Yom Tov as we celebrate it today.
All the Spies except for Yehoshua and Kaleiv (who reached the land) were killed and Moshe again begged for our forgiveness.
Such a sad event.
We learn from this that HaShem Knows all and is always to be trusted and appreciated for all He Does for us all.
G-D Knows All Things so how can we not trust Him .
If HaShem Commands us , we are to listen without question, Only by HaShem , are we to live and follow. HaShem Knows all we need to do to get this World to where it needs to be and so, we are to have total Emunah always in what HaShem Instructs for only He , Sees the result of all things.
HaShem Is Merciful and even within the words "Shelach Lecha " - "Send for you" is the hint to how we can do things correctly. All we need to do is make the "For You" in our lives, for HaShem. " All we do must always be for the sake of HaShem and not for ourselves.HaShem Wants us to make a place for Him in His World. So we need to do that by sending ourselves out into this world 'For HaShem Only .'
May we always do this and make a place for HaShem to Dwell in His World and within us.Thank you HaShem for all things and for Creation.I love you HaShem .
With love to HaShem I wish HaShem With love, a Beautiful Holy Shabbos Kodesh with Love and to all , a beautiful holy Shabbos Kodesh with love.
