Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Beshalach that also is on Tu B'Shvat , the New Year for Trees.
Our Parsha starts by telling us that Pharoah sent out the people from Mitzrayim and tells us that HaShem sent the people on the way that would lead them away from the Plishtim because 'Ki Karov Hu,' - ' because 'it was near .'
The Parsha is called Beshalach. The word 'Beshalach' means 'Sent,' and it looks as though Pharoah is the one doing the sending. But this is not the case. Within the word 'Beshalach' is the word 'Shaliach' which refers to a Messenger, for Pharoah was acting as a tool and messenger of HaShem, for it was HaShem Who sent us out of Mitzrayim Egypt. If it was not for HaShem, we would still be in slavery. Every moment of every day, our people should learn to thank HaShem for freeing us and we should look only to HaShem and His Laws, to follow them, for. If it wasn't for HaShem, we would not be alive at all.
The verse tells us that HaShem did not send us by way of the Plishtim - Philistines, for the way was too near. HaShem Knew that if we would come out of Egypt and have to face a powerful army of Philistines, we would most certainly return to Egypt,so HaShem led us away from them. Also, just before the Exodus, as our Midrash explains, members of the Tribe of Efraim tried to leave thirty years earlier than the appointed date of the Exodus and were slaughtered by the Plishtim ,who left their bones openly visible above the ground,so HaShem wanted to avoid us seeing this terrible sight and fearing the Plishtim, and so , avoid our return Chas Ve Shalom to Egypt. But there is another reason why HaShem Led us away , for Torah says 'Ki Karov Hu,' which doesn't only mean that 'it was near,' but 'Karov' also means 'Close.' But close to whom? If we will remember , Avraham our descendant made an agreement with Avimelech king of the Philistine nation that neither will hurt each other to their children and children's children and Avimelech's grandson was still living , so this would have meant a breaking of this agreement, should Israel be forced to engage the Plishtim, so Torah describes it as 'Ki Karov Hu,' 'the time was still too close in generations as this agreement between Avraham and Avimelech stated.'
After three days, the spies of Pharoah that went along secretly with the Children of Israel, returned to Pharoah to tell him, we were not returning after the three days originally spoken of and also heard that when we arrived at Pi Hahirot, where there was a big idol statue of baal (thus it was called ('baal-zephon'), we had stopped, so Pharoah assumed wrongly that we had become overpowered by the idol in a place where people of that time would assemble to worship baal and so, he thought that now was his opportunity to come after us,with six hundred chariots. The people saw the chariots coming and were in great fear, but Moshe, HaShem's faithful servant told them to 'Stand back and watch the Salvation of the L-RD.' It was at this time that one of the greatest ever miracles was performed , for throughout the night, the Yam Suf,The Sea complained that it didn't want to open its waters to swallow such as the likes of the Egyptian unholy nation.HaShem's Angel that had been going in front of Israel, went behind them, to protect them from Egypt,as did the pillar of cloud.
Moshe stretched out his hand over the sea and HaShem Moved the waters so that it split into twelve pathways for all the Twelve Tribes to miraculously go through on dry land. There were more miracles performed at this Yam Suf, then even in Mitzrayim, like the walls of water could be seen through, between each tribe so that the tribe next to the one that one was in, could be seen visibly through the waters , for comfort and also , though there had been water before at the bottom of the Sea that would have made the ground wet and muddy, the bottom became dry instantly so we could walk through easily.
As we know, Egypt pursued them and was drowned in the sea while Israel walked through safely. Our people sang a song of praise to HaShem for His loving care and Miriam and the women took up their timbrels and sang thanks to HaShem.
All of the Egyptians that were at the Yam Suf perished except for Pharoah who never returned to Egypt, but made his way to Nineveh, where he became the ruler to whom, Jonah came to tell to him and the people of Nineveh to repent. This time he listened.
The Children of Israel left the Yam Suf and journeyed on to Marah, where they had nothing to drink as the water was bitter. The murmurings of the Eirev Rav,caused Moshe to be shown by HaShem a Tree that made the water sweet there to drink.
They journeyed on from there to Elim where there were twelve springs ,like the Twelve Tribes of Israel and seventy date palms like the Seventy Members of the Sanhedrin.
The people murmured again and HaShem sweetly made a tray of dew on which fell HaShem's Holy Food, prepared for us with love with another layer of dew above it as it was below it. The people had never seen this Holy food before that could take on the taste of whatever they wanted it to and so they said ,'Mann Hu,' - ' What is this.' This Holy food became known as the Mann or Mannah.
The people complained for meat and again, HaShem sent the quail and also instructed on the Shabbos that a double portion of Mann, must be collected on the Friday for it would not come on Shabbos.
Again the people journeyed on to Rephidim, where again there was no water and the people again murmured and so we met the Well of Miriam, the rock that traveled along with us throughout our journey. HaShem became angry with the people and allowed our greatest enemy Amalek to attack us from behind.Again, Moshe prayed and while Joshua fought Amalek,Moshe stood above the battle in prayer while Aharon and Hur held up his hands, for while his hands were raised, Israel prevailed. HaShem performed a miracle and the Sun stood still in the sky and HaShem helped us prevail against Amalek , reminding us through time, to wipe out their memory.
HaShem alone runs the World. How it behaves , is what it faces.
All things in Creation, are a tool of the Almighty. All things in Creation are Shaliachs - Messengers of HaShem .
For every breath we are given, we must never forget to thank HaShem . The best thanks we can give to HaShem, is to put our own wants aside and follow HaShem's Wants, His Laws of Pure Holiness.
What we want for ourselves, is not the issue in the scheme of Creation. What HaShem Wants, is always what Creation needs. HaShem Asks Nothing for Himself, but only for Creation's Sake.
We too, are HaShem's Shaliachs- Messengers that He 'Beshalach,'- 'Sends ' out into His World, to keep His World as it should be. Each one of us is a part of this great Creation and it is our task, to beautify in HaShem's Holiness, the personal World we are a part of, so that we can , at the end , beautify the Creation as a Whole .
When HaShem Gives us birth, we must not waste the life we are Given for useless physical and personal pursuits. Each moment must be used in thanks to HaShem for 'Beshalach' - 'Sending' us out into His Creation as His Representatives to bring His Light to our World - to make a place for HaShem to Dwell among us. This is our task as He 'Beshalach' Sends ' us out to make this World Holy.
Let us all start today , working together to make HaShem's Creation , a World in which HaShem can Dwell with us in closeness and finally, keeping all His Commandments , making Creation , a place for HaShem .
With love to HaShem , I wish HaShem with Love , a Beautiful Blessed Shabbos Kodesh and Chag Tu B'Shvat Sameach with love and to all , a Beautiful Blessed Shabbos Kodesh and Chag Tu B'Shvat Sameach with love.
