Pesach Sheni
Today the 14th of Iyar is Pesach Sheni . As The Torah Tells us in Bamidbar Numbers 9 : 6 - 14 , when the Pesach Offering was offered on Passover on the 14th of Nissan , there were men who had been contaminated by a human corpse and thus could not make the Pesach Offering on that day . The Talmud Tells us that these were the men who had righteously been carrying Yosef's coffin , back from Mitzrayim to Canaan . Another opinion is that they had come across a human corpse unattended and had fulfilled the Mitzvah of burying the person . So they came to Moshe and Aharon on that day , desperate to perform and fulfill this Mitzvah of the Pesach Offering , and so Moshe asked HaShem what to do . HaShem , through these men , Gave the Mitzvah of Pesach Sheni , where they were allowed to make the offering a month later , on this day , the 14th of Iyar . This is only if the person was not able to make the Offering on the 14th of Nissan , due to a Religious Legal Reason . One who was pure at the time of the 14th of Nissan , but refrained from making the Pesach Offering on the 14th of Nissan , was not allowed to offer it a month later and his soul was cut off from it's people . Today , in our times , on the 14th of Iyar , we commemorate this day , by partaking of Matzah and as the Torah Says , it is to be partaken of with Matzah and Maror with the Offering ( where the Offering was then in the Wilderness and also in Temple times ) but today , we eat Matzah and Maror , Bitter Herbs . Many just eat Matzah , but the Torah Talks of both , and so we should have both on this day . Chag Pesach Sheni Sameach With Love to HaShem and to all my fellow Jews .
