Parashas Vayeishev just before Chanukah

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Vayeishev , just before Chanukah .
At the end of the previous Parsha,Eisav's progeny was mentioned. Now, in this Parsha of Veyeishev, we carry on with the Jewish line through Yaakov .This is the connection between the two Parshas and thus the 'Va' - ' And,' at the beginning of the word ''Va'yeishev .'
Yaakov felt content, to feel at ease now in the land of his Father's Sojournings and so , anguish hit him with the pain of Yosef's sale, for as Rashi says, 'For as the Righteous seek tranquility, the Holy One , Blessed Be He Says, 'Are the Righteous not content with what they will be rewarded with in Olam Habah ( The World To Come ) , that they would dare to want to live at ease in Olam Hazeh ( This World ) too . ' '
Thus, did this tragedy occur, yet , it had its purpose, in the scheme of our Final Redemption from Mitzrayim, as all things do, even though we can't always see the final meaning and result. Thus , true "Vayeishev," - " Settling," is with HaShem , for then all things are Entrusted to His Hands.
Yosef at the time, was seventeen years of age . It mentions that he was a youth with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah , for they treated him with more caring and understanding, unlike the others, and so respected his youth , for they too, felt more humbled, not having come from Yaakov's first wife Leah , who had just passed on . When Yosef's Ima had passed away, it was Bilhah who had raised him. She was a woman of humility and thus, anything that Yosef did, in reporting his brothers for wrongly assumed infringements, was not out of a lack of humility, but was purely for the sake of trying to ensure that Yaakov, his Father would help them also spiritually grow and also he meant it for their benefit to improve and continue the Family line of Holiness .
Even though he misunderstood his brother's misdemeanors, his sole intention was to correct them and keep the family holy, even though he should have told them directly and then misunderstandings could have been avoided , not that they were always approachable be him.
We are told how his Father Yaakov loved him more than the others, which increased their resentment to him. Torah says, it was because ,"he was a child of his old age," which meant , that Yaakov saw in Yosef, many similarities to himself , like for example, both Yaakov and Yosef, were disliked by their brothers. Both Yaakov and Yosef, spent their time learning. Both Yaakov and Yosef ended up being estranged from their Father and Family. Both Yaakov and Yosef looked similar. And of course, Yosef was the son of Yaakov's very beloved Rachel . Yaakov saw in Yosef , a great holiness and a very spiritual purity that made him worthy of leading the family to its true Jewish destination , and so , Yaakov made him a ' fine woolen tunic,' which at the time was a garment worn by people in royalty. This angered the brothers more and so they feared he would completely dominate them, which he would never have done .In this Parsha we learn that all children are special in their own way and a Blessing and Parents should never have favorites, but appreciate the gift of every child HaShem Gives . In this case, the Parsha shows that such an action led to exile of a people.
Some time later, Yosef dreamed a dream , of him and his brothers binding sheaves in the middle of the field and how his sheaf rose up and remained standing while his brothers sheaves gathered around his sheaf and bowed to his sheaf . Such a dream was not out of arrogance, but a future prophecy of how his brothers would one day stand before him, when he would become viceroy in Mitzrayim, and he told his brothers , not out of arrogance at all,but purely so they would have respect for him. Instead of constantly mocking him . They did not understand this and so, hated him more .
Later on, Yosef again dreamed another dream , of the sun and moon and eleven stars bowing to him and he related it to his Father and brothers. Yaakov realized that these were not mere dreams for at one time , HaShem had quietly referred to Yaakov as the sun, so Yaakov knew Yosef could not know this on his own, and so he openly scolded Yosef, yet kept the matter within. The Mother referred to here in the verse was Bilhah, who had brought Yosef up .
Yaakov would teach Yosef more depth in Halacha , for he saw in Yosef a depth so holy , so he taught Yosef secrets he had personally learnt in the Yeshiva of Shem and Aiver.
After these things, Yaakov's sons had gone tp pasture in Shechem and Yaakov called Yosef to go and see after their welfare . Yaakov escorted Yosef part of the way and while escorting him, taught him the Law of the Egla Arufah , the Law of if a man is found murdered , the closest town must perform a certain ritual , and state that they are innocent of that man's murder, for it is very important to escort a guest for safety. So Yosef said he would go, being spiritually ready to continue our history.
On the way, Yosef came to the place, but they were not there. Gavriel, the Angel met Yosef there in the form of an elderly man with a long white beard and paiyos and with an unusual faint glow behind his back and head , and tried to warn Yosef of their intention, saying they have gone to Dothan, for within this word is the word 'Dat' - 'Law,' meaning they have gone to Judge you. But Yosef did not realize the deep import of this 'man's ' words. Also, said the 'man' , "They have journeyed on from here, " meaning they have gone on from any caring for you as a brother . Yosef continued on to Dothan and there they were.
It was Levi who said ' Look, the dreamer comes,' and Simeon who wanted to kill Yosef and throw him into a pit.
Yosef pleaded with them to let him go, but they beat him repeated and kicked him, and ripped off his coat .Simeon, physically grabbed him and pushed him toward the largest pit , knowing there were snakes and scorpions within , wanting to ensure his death . Yosef tried to run to Bilhah and Zilpah's sons, who themselves were put down by Leah's sons , but they too refused him help, in the face of the aggressive Simeon. Reuvein was not a part of this, for he had been praying , which he did constantly , to beg forgiveness day and night for disarranging his Father's Couch . Reuvein thus tried to save Yosef from their hands, suggesting a way he could come back later and save Yosef. Reuvein , who would have been the one most personally affected if Yosef would have been put at the head of the Family , for Reuvain was the First born and he lost this position after the incident with the Couch , was so humble that he never minded if Yosef was to take his position .They stripped Yosef and Simeon personally pushed Yosef into the pit . Yosef was terror stricken knowing that these pits especially this one he was thrown into , was full of snakes and scorpions , yet Torah Says it was empty, for as soon as Yosef was thrown in, HaShem Sent an Angel, to ensure Yosef would be safe and thus empty the pit of all snakes and scorpions . Simeon thought this pit would be full of danger, for he, had had a bad experience himself previously with this pit , which Yosef had helped him with.
Yoseif cried and wept and pleaded but his anguish was ignored .
Both Ishmaelites and Midianites and Medanites were used to exchange Yosef after he was sold by his brothers , in order to finally get Yosef to Mitzrayim. In fact , Yosef was sold a number of times from the time his brother sold him, till he finally got to Mitzrayim .
The first set of travelers, had spices as their wares, very unusual , for traders of that area, this being so a more pleasant fragrance may ease a bit of Yosef's pain .
The brothers killed a goat and dipped Yosef's tunic into it's blood and Yehudah was chosen to bring it to his Father. Thus Yaakov, was reminded of his own actions of wearing goat-skins to his Father Yitzchak .
Yaakov was inconsolable for his son Yosef .
Yosef reached Mitzrayim , and a Courtier of Par'o , Potiphera ( or Potiphara as he was called then in Egypt) took an interest in this pure looking slave . He was called Potiphar, which means the mutilated one, referring to his medical act done on him when he was younger . Potiphara took a personal liking to the looks of Yosef and had designs on Yosef himself, so only when he was shown the sale contract signed by the brothers, did he agree to buy him . Yosef was brought to his house and he saw in time, the purity and honesty of this man Yosef . Yosef was put to work inside and outside the house in the field, six months each . Potiphara noticed that all Yosef touched was Blessed by Hashem , for Yosef would spend time teaching about HaShem , for Yosef spoke and explained about HaShem , even to Potiphar . Yosef got so trusted , that Potiphara gave him rights over everything he had, except his wife Zulaicha .
The Torah then switches to Yehudah, to show , that Midda Knegged Middah, for Yehudah's actions, of Yosef, he was punished himself, by losing his sons. Also, as the Midrash tells us, while HaShem was bringing us to Egypt so we could finally be redeemed in the future, at the same time, HaShem was bringing about the beginning stages of our Final Redemption at the End of Days , with the coming of King David's Line and the progeny of Mashiach .
Yaakov's anguish over his son Yosef could not be calmed , and the brothers of Yehudah blamed Yehudah, for they said, as leader , had he told them not to do this thing they would have listened, so they chased him away from them and so TheTorah From HaShem Tells us that he went down from his brothers . Yehudah married a woman who , here, is referred to as a 'K'na'ani' which in this case does not mean a Canaanite, for we are forbidden to marry into the Canaanites, so in this context the word refers to a ' Merchant , or daughter of one .'
They had three sons, Er ,Onan and Sheilah. Yehudah took his firstborn a wife , daughter of Noach's son Shem, whose name was Tamar . Er, did not want to affect her beauty and so did not want to impregnate her and so he died. The second son did similar and so, he died too. Thus Yehudah was punished for the anguish he caused his Father Yaakov over Yosef .
Yehudah feared losing his last son, and so kept Tamar for a long time without giving her his third son . Now Tamar was so modest that she always covered her face in the presence of Yehudah, so when she devised a plan to ensure she continues progeny with the family of Yehudah, she played the role of a woman at the cross-roads . Yehudah bever knew her, for he had never seen her face out of her modesty. Tamar's reason, was purely to bring about the progeny of David and Mashiach for the prophesied line of Yehudah and so as a pledge she asked him for his signet, wrap and staff, all symbols of royalty to come from this line . After a while Yehudah heard his daughter in law was pregnant and brought Tamar for Judgement . So Tamar, without wanting to embarrass Yehudah directly, showed him the symbols which Samael the evil Angel of Amalek tried to hide, but with her pleading to HaShem, HaShem Sent the Angel to reveal them . Tamar said of the symbols, it is by this man, whose the symbols are, that she was with child. Yehudah showed great courage in admitting it was him, and there was no union with then again. The line of David came from these holy people .
Tamar had holy intentions, unlike Zulaicha who, these events are compared with, for Zulaicha too, saw by her Astrology that a member of her family would procreate with Yosef. It was actually her adopted daughter Osnas ( who was in reality Yaakov's daughter Dina's daughter with Shechem ) and not her, who she mistakenly perceived. This was one of the reasons she pursued him. Yet her motives were not pure as Tamar's were .
The Narrative returns then to this very incident with Yosef and Zulaicha, Potiphara's unfaithful wife .
Yosef had acquired the beautiful purity of looks of his Mother Rachel and Father Yaakov . Zulaicha, was completely taken with him, and hounded him every day . Yosef started to feel at home in his new environment , and so , HaShem Sent him a reminder that this was not his home, and that even in exile, he must long for his holy home in Eretz Yisroel.
Zulaicha tried everything to win him over, changing her clothes three times a day, putting on all kinds of garments and perfumery, but nothing would make Yosef lift his head and even look at her in her eyes, for he remained holy and pure to HaShem and his Father .
She began to get ill with obsessing over him and her friends noticed her health decline and questioned her why. She invited them over and then called in Yosef and they were so taken with his looks that one or two of them even cut their fingers without realizing it and concentrating as they were trying to peel a fruit , after he was called in
They persuaded her to command him to obey and look at her, and no matter how she tried, she could not persuade him to look at her eyes and drop his purity.
It happened on the day of Par'o's birthday, that she ensured she would be alone in the house with Yosef, sending all the servants away . She cleaned herself and put on revealing wear that was see through and blew in the wind , a garment of wraps of different thin see-through fabric colors that she thought would entice Yosef . She made sure to sit where she knew Yosef would have to go past, and sure enough, when Yosef came past, she hounded him again . Trying all forms of verbal and even physical attempts to entice him . He stepped back and reminded her that he would not insult G-D and His Father and the progeny that would be symbolized by the Choshen Ha Mishpat and Holy Stones that the High Priest would eventually wear so that his Tribe's Stone should stand holy like the rest. She continued to use persuasion and then went onto threatening him that if he doesn't , she would make false accusations against him, yet he continued to say no . Through her physical attempts, she hoped to affect his Yetzer Horah and try to entice and weaken him yet he saw a vision of his Father and felt HaShem With him, and so, after reminding her that he would not take the only thing Potiphara had denied him, and after her attempt to threaten that she would even go as far as to to kill her own husband so her husband would never know, Yosef turned to walk away.
As he did, she grabbed the back of his garment and it tore in the back as he fled.
She ripped her own garments herself and persuaded her friends to falsely say that Yosef had supposedly made attempts on them too, and so when Potiphara came home, a barrage awaited him . He wanted Yosef killed , but his adopted daughter Osnas, told him that Zulaicha was lying and that Zulaicha had pursued him day after day and he had turned her down. Potiphara was not sure who to believe and so he called the egyptian priests, who examined the garment and when they noticed it was torn in the back, they knew and told Potiphara, that Yosef was telling the truth and Zulaicha was not . But Potiphara wanted to save face for him and his wife and so , Yosef was put in the prison, and let out only at night to clean his house, only to return to prison again in the morning. Zulaicha continued to pursue Yosef , yet Yosef held strong .Zulaicha had an iron bar tied to Yosef's neck under his head to ensure his head would remain lifted so he would be forced to look at her, but still he refused .Yoseif now understood the danger of false or incorrect claims, that he had himself mistakenly done to his own brothers . Yosef , being an honest man, , by HaShem's Help of Being with Yosef ,won the favor of the heads of the prison , the prison warden , who just so happened to have been Potiphara and others , and so it became Yosef's task to make at ease all new prisoners that came into the prison . So HaShem Had put Yosef in position to rise to power , for two prisoners were put in prison , who came under Yosef's care , that would lead Yosef to Viceroyship in Egypt .
The Chamberlain of the Cupbearers was put in prison, for a fly that had mistakenly flown into Pharoah's wine cup, and the Chamberlain of the Bakers, was put into prison, on charges of possibly attempted murder, for a stone that appeared in Pharaoh's bread , according to Rashi and the Midrash Bereishis .
They both came under Yosef's care and day after day, Yosef would see to their welfare. One morning he came in and found them both very despondant . In asking them what was wrong, they both told him they had had a dream. Miraculously, they had also had an interpretation of each other's dream as well as their own dream and its interpretation, but could not understand it .So Yosef asked them to relate their dreams to him , saying HaShem Answers Secrets that are hidden to man .
The Chamberlain of the Cupbearers told that he had had a dream of a grapevine with three tendrils , appearing to bud and blossom. And grapes came from it and that Pharaoh's cup was in the Chamberlain of the Cupbearer's Hand and he took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup and placed it into Pharaoh's palm . This was unusual, as his usual job was not to squeeze the grapes, but to just place the prepared goblet in Pharaoh's palm . Yosef answered from HaShem that the three tendrils were three days, for within three days, on Pharaoh's birthday, the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers would be reinstated at his former post. Yosef also foresaw a prophecy for us Jews, where he foresaw the three tendrils as Moshe , Aharon and Miriam, who would come and redeem our Jewish people , thus the action of squeezing in reference to Pharaoh .
The Chamberlain of the Bakers , who had miraculously from HaShem, dreamed the answer to his partner's dream , agreed that this interpretation was correct , as did the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers, who had also dreamed an interpretation of his own dream, he could himself see. Yosef asked of him to please mention about Yosef to Pharaoh when he got out, but no matter how hard he tried, an Angel kept having him forget, for it is HaShem Who Knows the Right Time of freedom, and when is best and thus needs to be trusted .The Ten years of Yosef's prison time, represented the Ten Tribes he had talked to his Father Yaakov wrongly about.
The Chamberlain of the Bakers then went next, seeing the interpretation was well.In his dream, he saw three baskets on his head and birds were eating from the top one and lower one. HaShem Spoke for the interpretation through Yosef, where the three baskets were three days, and within three days, Pharaoh, on his birthday would lift up his head and hang him , while birds eat from his flesh. Yosef did not mention to them, the Jewish prophecy in these dreams, of the three baskets representing our Three Temples and the last one only would stand eternally .
And so, as HaShem Showed Yosef, it happened as he had said to the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers and the Chamberlain of the Bakers, but the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers did not remember Yosef, but forgot him.
So ends this Parsha.
This Parsha is called " Vayeishev," - "Settled," which is a term used for remaining permanently in a place , and referred to here as Eretz Yisroel, the place of permanence for all Yidden, Given by HaShem. We see in a later Parsha, when Yaakov comes to settle in Egypt, there, he is referred to with his name Israel ( Bereishis 47:27 ) . A Jew is never truly settled anywhere in Galus, for His only home is Eretz Yisrael. Even Yaakov, who though he settled in Egypt, his name is then mentioned as Israel Yisrael, for wherever a Jew is, his home is only Israel Eretz Yisroel and we Jews always long for home . Yosef too was sent into exile, and never saw his Father for the same amount of years that his Father Yaakov was away from Yitzchak. Everything we do, has a repercussion, not always as punishnent, but as an opportunity to fix our wrongs. This takes a lot of Faith and Emunah, for while negative things are happening, there is always a deep reason for them and HaShem Does things out of Love.
A Jew's true place to Settle is in Eretz Yisrael and the real place that a Jew must work toward "Vayeishev," - " Settling " in, is with HaShem Himself . A Jew must spiritually work every day to "Vayeishev, " - " Settle," within HaShem and also make a place for HaShem to Settle within us . When HaShem Tells us to ' Build a Temple within which He Can Dwell, HaShem Also refers to the Temple of Us, that we must make ourselves every day and every moment holy and into a Temple to house HaShem's Shechinah within us , so HaShem Can Dwell Within us . This ties so closely with Chanukah , where the miracle was performed that there was not enough pure oil to last and the miracle happened that it lasted the time needed , for to be truly free is to be truly within HaShem's Light and Miracles . The 'Oil' will last as long as we remain pure enough inside and out , to bring HaShem within .
True " Vayeishev," - " means " Settling within HaShem . That is what we are to work toward every day . To ' Yosheiv' return in Teshuva, every day , to be within HaShem and to let the Light of HaShem be welcome within us , as the Light of our Chanukah Candles Light our Homes at this time . That is true " Vayeishev," - " Settling ." To sit within HaShem and be surrounded by His Love .
When we can do that, we will accomplish the depth within this word " Vayeishev," which can expand itself to the words '" Vayehi Sheva," which means " And it will be the Seventh," in reference to the one who is represented by the number Seven which is Mashiach, so that when we can sit within HaShem's Laws, and Love, we will be at the stage of sitting within the time of Mashiach and thus Usher in The End of Days.
May It come soon, that we can each sit under our vine and be surrounded in Olam Habah, with HaShem's Light and Love.
I wish HaShem With Love,a Very Beautiful and Special Shabbos Kodesh and Chag Chanukah Sameach with Love, and to all my fellow Yidden, a very beautiful and special Shabbos Kodesh and Chag Chanukah Sameach with love .

Parashas Vayishlach

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Vayishlach.
In the previous Parsha, Yaakov left Lavan in Charan and headed home after twenty years of not seeing his Father and Mother.
Yaakov knew his brother Eisav was still angry and in this Parsha of Vayishlach, Yaakov prepares to meet him . The Parsha starts by telling us that Yaakov sent Malachim Angels to Eisav with a specific message of how Yaakov had sojourned with Lavan, so as to let Eisav be aware that Yaakov had overcome such an evil and powerful negative man spiritually, so Yaakov could easily overcome Eisav . Yaakov also sent a gift to appease his brother. Thus , Yaakov taught us that we are to do three things when faced with our enemy that hates us. First we are to beg for mercy from HaShem, send tribute to the person who might want to hurt us so as to appease them and should there still be a threat, then we are to prepare for war to defend ourselves.
The Malachim returned to Yaakov to let him know, that his brother, who was busy with something else, on hearing that Yaakov was headed his way, would come out to him in war with four hundred men.
Yaakov divided his camp into two factions , so that if Eisav would strike the one Chas Ve Shalom , then at least the other would get away. Yaakov begged HaShem for Help.
On the way to meet his brother, Yaakov came to the Ford of the Jabbok . He sent over his wives and sons first and then his possessions . While Yaakov was on the first side of the Ford , after his family had crossed over, and when he came back for his possessions, he met a man on the one side, who asked him to help with the man's possessions if the man would help him . Yaakov , a man of his word, agreed and suddenly the man transported Yaakov's things almost instantly , returning, and asking Yaakov now to help with the man's things . Yaakov did, and then returned to find suddenly more things of the man's to help with. Yaakov again helped and strangely enough, after returning, suddenly more things appeared that weren't there before . Yaakov again ran across with the man's things only to return again to find more things back again .Yaakov asked the man if he was a magician, and an argument started between them .This argument turned physical, and they wrestled all night . The man was not a man, but an Angel, the Angel Samael of Edom . The Angel saw he could not overcome Yaakov, so he injured Yaakov's Hip-Socket . This fight with Edom's Angel that went on all night , signified the long exile we Jews would face of many years ,and though we as a Jewish people would survive through this long painful Galus, we would still at times get hurt, just like Yaakov's Hip-Socket. In honor of this, Jews do not eat the 'Gid Ha Nashe,' the displaced sinew of the hip-socket.
Yaakov held on to the Angel and refused to let the angel go, till the Angel Blessed him, which would corroborate the Blessing taken from Eisav . Yaakov heard that his name would be Yisrael . Yaakov asked the Angel's Name and the Angel inquired why, for Angels don't always have direct names, for their names have to sometimes do with that specific mission the Angel may be sent on.
The Angel desperately wanted to go, for it was his turn to sing Shira to HaShem that very day-break, but Yaakov refused to let him go. So the Angel started to sing Shira from on Earth . The Angel eventually Blessed Yaakov Yisrael , for what is Blessed in Shamaim is Blessed here .
The Angel returned and Yaakov named the place "Peniel ," for Yaakov had seen a divine being , face to face .
Then Yaakov continued with his family, toward Eisav. Yaakov foresaw Eisav on the way to him . That is why Torah says , "Yaakov Raised his eyes and saw,"
So Yaakov went in front and separated his camp , putting Zilpah and Bilhah and their children behind him , then Leah and her children behind and Rachel further back , covered in front of her by her son Yosef .
Leah's daughter Dinah , Yaakov hid away from Eisav and our Rabbis say Yaakov should not have done that , for possibly , Dinah may have improved Eisav's character . It was this , say our Rabbonim , that caused the sad incident with Dinah later on in the Parsha, for seeing that Yaakov refused his daughter by hiding her from a member of the family, she ( the daughter ) ended up being taken by a complete stranger .
Yaakov and Eisav finally meet, and the Torah tells us how Yaakov bowed seven times . This bowing was not to Eisav at all, but to HaShem's Shechinah .
They ran toward each other and embraced and our Midrash tells us how Eisav tried to pretend friendliness to his brother Yaakov, yet tried different subtle ways to kill his brother .
Yaakov answered Eisav's question about all the children and livestock Yaakov now possessed , which gave Yaakov an opportunity to show how HaShem was with Yaakov and that HaShem Had Allowed Yaakov to Father the Tribes of Israel .
Yaakov had Eisav accept the gifts and slipped in, how Yaakov had overcome the divine being , the angel of Edom who , seeing the Angel was beaten, would thus Make Edom vulnerable .Yaakov refused politely not to take anything from his brother . They parted ways , Yaakov , refusing to go alongside his brother, saying he would at a later date, referring to Mashiach's Time , when we would overcome Amalek and those from Edom would try overcome us .Yaakov stayed in Succot and then on to Shechem .
It just so happened, that Shechem had set up a market place where the young females went out all dressed colorfully. Dinah, who was a bit like her Mother Leah, who also , as Torah says , ' Went out ,' , was attracted while out, with these foreign colorfully dressed women . This teaches us that Jewish men and women, should be very careful , never to go out of their Religious circle , and never to practice the practices of the land, lest they be enticed . While Dinah was out, she was seen by Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivvite , prince of the region. He took her,lay with her and violated her . He had feelings for her and asked his father to have Yaakov , allow him to take her for a wife .The Midrash tells us that Yaakov sent messengers to try retrieve his daughter, but they would not let her go .
Yaakov decided to keep silent and discuss it with his sons .
They were furious that a foreign man had defiled their sister, a maiden in Israel .They decided to answer the request for Shechem to want to marry her, with cleverness.
Shechem's father , said his nation could intermingle with ours and this, the sons of Yaakov would not have . The sons of Yaakov said that their sister cannot be given to an uncircumcized man , and that the father and son and all the menfolk would need to be circumcized . The father and son returned and persuaded almost all the inhabitants of the area , to go along with the circumcision, assuring them of the flocks and things Yaakov possessed.
Yet there was a man in the area called Chedkam and his six brothers, who refused to circumcize themselves, calling us and the idea an outrage and threatened to kill the prince and his Father if they don't kill us . So they agreed to try trap us . Dinah , managed to get word to her family that they were planning to annihilate us .The people and Chedkam and his six brothers were persuaded to circumcize themselves as an act and on the third day after the circumcision, when they were at their weakest, two of Yaakov's sons Shimon and Levi , who at the time were only thirteen years old, came upon the city and slew every male at the point of the sword , including Hamor and Shechem , took back their daughter Dinah and plundered the city . Yaakov came down on them for the danger they now caused to the family, for a few escaped to the Edomite kings in the area, who amassed a large army to attack Yaakov's family , but HaShem put fear into them and we were saved from harm . The daughter of Dinah and Shechem grew up and became close to Yosef and met each other later in Egypt , where they married .
Yaakov continued to question the hardships he was constantly having and HaShem Reminded him to go to Beth-El and keep his promise , for Yaakov had promised HaShem the tithe .
The family finally got to Beth-El , where Yaakov built an altar and fulfilled his word . It was there, that they buried the idols that had been taken and silver and gold, from Shechem and Hamor's people .
Yaakov again faced an attack against the family and even Yitzchak , his Father , sent help. Again Yaakov's family were surrounded, and according to the Midrash, Eisav again appeared to attack the family with his men . The Midrash tells us how Yaakov shot arrows at Eisav and how his sons defended their lives and with HaShem's help, with these enemies of ours also hearing that if only two of Yaakov's sons , who were only thirteen , could decimate a city, they feared what the whole of Yaakov's family would do to them, so one by one, thanks due only to HaShem , did these nations , nation by nation , with HaShem Putting a deadly fear on them, were forced to disperse and leave us be .Thank you HaShem .
Yaakov arrived at Luz in Canaan, and built an altar at Beth-El and called the place El-Beth-El . It was here that Devorah, the wet-nurse of Yaakov's Mother , passed away and Yaakov buried her in a place he called Allon-Bachuth . The reason that this is mentioned here, is that Devorah and Yaakov's Mother Rivka were so close, that on the day Devorah died, so did Yaakov's Mother Rivka . The reason this isn't mentioned openly in Torah, and only Devorah is mentioned for both, is that Rivka , before she passed away, knew Yaakov wasn't home , and didn't want to be buried by her son Eisav who was evil , with all the shame Eisav had brought to the family and what people would have said about her now ,having a child like Eisav , and so, she instructed that she be buried in the quiet of night . Yaakov mourned for the news of his Mother . HaShem Appeared to Yaakov and Blessed him and renamed Yaakov , Yisrael . Yaakov set up a monument where HaShem Had Spoken to him and poured oil upon it and called the place Beth-El .
They journeyed again and on the road to Ephrath, Rachel went into labor and sadly, while bearing a boy who she called "Ben Oni " ( Son of my mourning ) for she knew her soul was departing , and two girls , Rachel sadly passed away . But Yaakov renamed the boy 'Binyamin' ( Son of my right hand ). Rachel was thus not buried in the Cave of Machpela, but on the road to Ephrath. In Beis - lechem . For it would be in this spot much later in history which we would walk past ,when we went into exile in Bavel, that Rachel would pray to HaShem to forgive us , and she did pray for us then and so we were released after seventy years of Galus in Bavel .
Just after this , as Yaakov pitched his tent just after Migdal-Eder, and dwelt there , that Torah refers to an action of Yaakov's first born son Reuvein. There is a deeper happening here then appears . In each of the four wive's tents of Yaakov, was an extra couch , for the Shechinah of HaShem , Who would prophetically show Yaakov, to whom he should go, when he was helping make his family . When Yaakov's wife Rachel passed away, Reuvein thought that his Father would now make his more permanent place with his Mother Leah. But Yaakov did not do this.He moved his place to Bilhah's tent , closest to Rachel . This upset Reuvein, who felt his Mother deserved better respect and show of love, and so, Reuvein went and lay down on this couch , after he personally moved it into his Mother's Tent . This was akin to lying on it with Bilhah ( even though Reuvein never actually lay with his Father's wife Chas Ve Shalom , for this couch was put in Bilhah's Tent . We know that Reuvein didn't actively commit a sin of sleeping with his Father's wife, for straight after this , in Torah , HaShem Reminds us that "The Sons of Yaakov were twelve," ( Bereishis 35 : 22) , showing that all the sons (including Reuvein ) were of equal holiness to HaShem , which he would not have been Viewed that way by HaShem , had he slept with his Father's wife , Chas Ve Shalom . Also , Reuvein was one of the Tribes , that , when entering Eretz Yisroel , would have to stand on one of the mountains calling curse to anyone who would lay with his Father's wife, which he would not do, if he had done such a thing . No doubt though, he had still slighted his Father and most importantly the Shechinah of HaShem , on that couch and so, Reuvein lost the reward to the first-born right, to his brother Yoseif, which he totally understood . Reuvein, being a very holy and good fair man , never forgave himself for this and continued praying all the time, for repentance. Some say , there was no more a petitioned pleading for forgiveness from anyone, than Reuvein kept asking for.
Yaakov finally arrived home and greeted his Father , and a few years later, when Yosef was seventeen, Yitzchak passed away at the age of one hundred and eighty years . Yaakov and Eisav came to bury him . When it came to dividing between the sons, Yaakov offered Eisav all the physical wealth , if Eisav would agree to the deed of Caanan and the Cave of Machpeilah, going to Yaakov's family . Eisav, not sure of which to choose, went and asked advice of Yishmael's son, who advised him to take the wealth . Thus Yaakov, secured Eretz Yisroel ( Canaan ) and the Cave of Machpelah for us, his children .
The Parsha ends with the descendants of Eisav . The reason for this, is to show the contrast of the holy ideals of Yaakov as appose to the evil and vile impure line of Eisav, where many of Eisav's progeny in this list , committed incest and murder , having children with family members and killing leaders in the line .It is in this progeny, that we see a child of impure birth , in Amalek, the son of Eliphaz , the son of Eisav . It is this Amalek, who became the greatest enemy of us Jews, bringing people like Haman and Agag. , and other terrible enemies through time .
Also, Chiefs in Eisav's progeny didn't last all that long as other members of his family murdered them .
Certainly quite the opposite of holy Yaakov and his progeny, that serves HaShem .
So ends the Parsha .
This Parsha as I mentioned is called " Vayishlach " - " Sent " and refers to Yaakov sending Messengers / Angels to Eisav. The very fact that Yaakov was able to command Angels, shows his utter holiness and closeness with HaShem's Will . Yaakov, spent his entire life serving HaShem and his family and progeny. Whatever he did, was for the sake of his Children and us .He Cared solely for HaShem and His Jewish family for survival .
To Command Angels, is not an action of power, but of humility and Righteous Holiness , for Malachim - Angels are in the Command of HaShem . To have Command of Angles, as Avraham did, shows that HaShem Has Chosen to stand side - by - side with this person . That takes of the person real holiness .
But there is another deep meaning here that I perceive in this word ' Vayishlach ."
At times , when a Hebrew Letter Yud is placed in front of the word, it shows the future tense 'He/he .' Thus the word "Vayishlach ," can , according to my opinion , be rendered , ' And He/he Will send .' Who could this ' He/he ' be referring to , in the future tense . It could be referring to HaShem Himself , Who will , in the future times at the End of Days , send his Messengers to Eisav , to wipe out Amalek within them .Thus HaShem Could be Hinting here in this very verse what the future will be, that HaShem Will destroy our enemies in the Future and let us live in peace and harmony under The One and Holy HaShem . Thus it could be a future prophecy of the End Of Days . We can see this as a prophecy too for Moshiach's time , for if we take the word 'Yishalach,' within the Word " Vayishlach , " in Gematriah , it comes to 10+300+30+8 = 348 and 3+4+8 = 15 and 1+ 5 = 6 , which is the number just before Moshiach ( seven in Gematriah ) and thus just before Mashiach, HaShem Will want to wipe out Amalek once and for all, including its Angel .
In the same way, This 'he' could also refer to Yaakov and his descendants, for Yaakov may spiritually return in the removal of Amalek and at the End of Days , when Amalek is wiped out .
HaShem , Always Keeps His Word . HaShem Will Wipe out our enemies at the End of Days , sending many Messengers Malachim Angels , to clear up this World once and for all , At The End Of Days .
The word ' Send' is an active word , and also helps in the fighting of the Yetzer Horah we all have . For , if the Yetzer Horah wants to catch us, this Parsha and word can each us , to not even think for a moment about what it is enticing us to do . We are instantly to 'Send out ' the Yetzer Horah from us before we even start listening to it .For once one starts listening, it is much harder to send it away . Also , we learn that we are to , every day , act as HaShem's Messengers, being sent out On Behalf of HaShem , to bring the World and its inhabitants to HaShem and His Commandments . There is no sweeter task in this World HaShem Gave us , then to be Emissaries , Messengers for HaShem Himself , to walk as we could in Gan Eiden , alongside our Creator in Love and in Light and in His Holy Purpose .
So may the End of Days Come , when Creation finally reaches its destination and from the time HaShem Sent Adam Ve Chava out into the World to make the World Holy and conquer the Yetzer Horah , may HaShem Finally Help us return to sit close to Him in sweetness and love , after accompanying His " Vayishlach " - " Sending ," when we can all come home to Him with love .
I wish HaShem With Love , A Most Beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with Love , and to all my fellow Yidden , a most beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love .

Parashas Vayeitzei

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Vayeitzei.
In this Parsha, we take up with Yaakov , after he leaves his family and heads for Charan. On the way, Eisav sent his son Elifaz to kill Yaakov, but instead , Elifaz who respected Yaakov , just robbed him and disobeyed his Father Eisav's orders of killing him, leaving Yaakov with clothes stolen and penniless , which is akin to death.
The Parsha starts by saying , "Vayeitzei Yaakov Mi Be'er Shava Vayeilech Charanah," - " And Jacob departed from Be'er Shavah and went toward Charan ." Why does the Parsha say "toward," and not 'to Charan?' This is because Yaakov didn't go straight from home to Charan, but on the way stopped off for 14 years to learn at the Yeshiva of Shem and Aiver . Yaakov, knowing he was headed for the home of Lavan , who was a man filled with impurity and negativity and unholiness, wanted to prepare himself for this wicked deceiver by going and learning in a Holy Place and preparing himself for the negative spiritual attacks and impurity of Lavan and the place Lavan lived in , and what Lavan would try and practice on him .
Shem who has lived in the time of Noach and was Noach's son had plenty of experience in remaining holy while the rest of the World went away from holiness, and Aiver, , who withstood the negativity of Nimrod and his generation, was the place to go for Yaakov to prepare and so Yaakov knew that this was the right atmosphere to learn to be holy and spiritually grow strong , while surrounded by the negative Tum'a impurity of Lavan Ha Arami as Lavan was called . Ha Arami is not just 'The Aramean,' but "Ha'Arami" also means ' the swindler. ' Though the city of Charan where Lavan lived was filled with swindlers, Lavan was the cream of the crop of evil swindlers.
So Yaakov wanted to prepare himself spiritually for when he would come to Lavan's house of negativity.
After Yaakov left the Yeshiva of Shem and Aiver, he headed toward Charan, but on the way , he realized that he had gone past the place where his Grand - Father Avraham and Father Yitzchak had gone to the Mountain of Moriah , where the Akeidah had taken place , and Yaakov realized that he had gone right past it, without praying there in this Holy Place, which was the tradition , to pray in a place where a Miracle had occurred (especially if it was a miracle performed by HaShem for a family member ) , and had not said a prayer there ,so he turned around and went back there .
The Torah continues to say that he " Vayifgah, " - " Encountered ," the Place . If we remember, that when Avraham and Yitzchak were near this Mountain of Moriah , only they could perceive the holiness of the Place, and not the two men ( Eliezer and Yishmael ) , who were with them . The same was with Yaakov, for due to his holiness, he longed to be at one with and encounter this Holy Place by wanting to " Pagah " ( same root within the word " Vayifgah " and also meaning 'Touch' ) " Touch " this place with his whole being , that he too, was able to perceive it and so , the Holiness of this site, Encountered ," Him.
It encountered him, in the way that , as he arrived there, it became dark suddenly , thus forcing Yaakov to realize that he needed to spend the night in this place .
Yaakov said to HaShem that if he would take twelve stones ( knowing there was to be twelve Tribes of Israel ) from this place and set them up around him, if they all come together and became one stone , it will show that he will have twelve righteous sons who will follow HaShem .So he took twelve stones from the Altar that his Grand-Father Avraham had set up to sacrifice Isaac , and he laid them in a circle around his head and lay down on this Holy Site . No doubt, when he awoke, verse 18 shows all the stones ,so wanted to be the stone that rested under the Tzaddik's head ( mentioned in verse 11 ) and so they had become one stone ( in verse 18 ) .
Yaakov dreamed a dream and behold , a Ladder leading between Heaven and near Earth . The Hebrew word for "Ladder " is "Sulam ," which has a Gematrical value of 130 . This is the same Gematrical value as the Hebrew word ' Sinai ,' of Mount Sinai showing a connection and link between this event of Yaakov and Har Sinai, where HaShem , Stood above in both incidences, where on Mount Sinai , HaShem Gave us the Ten Commandments on Har Sinai, after Coming Down With His Shechinah, and here, in Yaakov's dream , again Stood Above the Ladder like Hashem Had Stood above and Descended upon Har - Mount Sinai . Yaakov saw Angels first ascending and then descending . These were all different Angels .
Each nation has its own protective Angel ,called a 'Sar ,' in Heaven to speak for it in the Heavenly Tribunal . First Yaakov saw the Malach Angel of Bavel , which climbed 70 rungs of the Ladder and then fell, showing that Yaakov's descendants would be in exile in Babylon for 70 years . Then Yaakov saw the Angel of Persia - Media , which climbed 52 rungs of the Ladder and then fell, showing how long we would be dominated there . Then Yaakov saw the Angel of Greece climb 130 rungs of the Ladder showing that exile's duration for us. Just after that , Yaakov saw the Angel of Edom carry on climbing with no stopping, as if it climbed for ever. Yaakov had great worry and asked HaShem , would the exile from Eisav ever end. HaShem Assured him that it would be HaShem Himself Who would throw that Angel down when the time is right .Yaakov saw different Angels, like the ones who escorted him in the Holy Land and who had now gone back up to Heaven , to be replaced by Angels that would watch over him while he was out of the Holy Land.
Yaakov awoke and realized how Holy this place was, for this was the place for the Holy Of Holies when the Temple Stands. HaShem Blessed Yaakov with Blessings for his offspring and Said to Yaakov how HaShem would be with Yaakov . Yaakov said that if HaShem Will Be With him, Guard him and Give him bread and clothes and Return Yaakov to his home in Peace to his Father, and be G-D unto Yaakov , then Yaakov said he would tithe what HaShem Gives. And so , Yaakov's son Levi ( one of the Tribes ) , did the work of HaShem in the Temple, like a tithe . Yaakov set up the stone as a pillar, poured oil on it and called the place " Beit- El " - "House of G-D , " where Luz was what it was called before , thus the Name of Yerushalaim .Yaakov vowed to make this place a House of G-D if G-D Grants him his request.
Yaakov left the place and went toward Charan, where he encountered towns people standing by the Well, with a huge heavy rock over its entrance .All the Shehards were waiting there, but none took water. When he asked why, he was told that there was a water shortage and that all the Shepherds had to wait for each other to come and take water, and so a heavy Rock was placed in front of the entrance so no on man could take it for himself. Yaakov inquired of the place and if they knew of Lavan. They did and , by HaShem's Sweet Work, at that moment , Lavan's daughter Rachel came with the flock of her Father . When Yaakov saw her , his soul- mate Bashert , he , on his own , moved the stone away , that usually took many to move . Yaakov came and watered the sheep of Lavan and kissed Rachel , telling of who he was , that he was her relative. The Torah Says , he raised his voice and wept, for at that moment he foresaw that he would lose her early , as she passed away in child-birth. She ran home to tell her Father.
When Lavan heard that someone from the family of Avraham and Yitzchak had come, remembering the gifts Eliezer had brought long ago, when coming to look for a wife for Yitzchak, he ran out to greet Yaakov, hoping for riches, but only found a poor robbed man . Lavan however accepted him , especially after hearing how, when Yaakov had removed the rock from the well, how the water had come up Miraculously from HaShem , to meet him .
After a month of stay, Lavan asked Yaakov what would be his wages. Yaakov wanted only one thing , and that was his beloved Rachel . At the well, Yaakov had suspected that Lavan would deceive him, and so he arranged signs with Rachel,to know that he was being given Rachel instead of her sister Leah, who had spent her life crying ( As Torah Tells us " Her Eyes were tender," ) , thinking she would have to marry Eisav, for the two boys and two girls were agreed for each other , from Avraham and Lavan's family .
Yaakov agreed to work seven years for Rachel and Lavan 'agreed.'. When the seven years were up, Yaakov asked for Rachel , but Lavan did not want Yaakov to leave , as he saw that he was blessed while Yaakov lived there, so he discussed it with the towns-people to help him in a ruse to hide that Lavan would deceive Yaakov, and give him the elder daughter Leah instead. Lavan the swindler, even exacted a pledge from the towns-people of money, which he never gave back . The towns- people kept the ruse on the wedding day, yet tried to hint to Yaakov in a way he wouldn't understand , just so they could always say they tried to warn him, by singing ' Oy Lay Oy Lay ," in other words " It is Leah It is Leah . "
Leah was replaced for Rachel . Rachel , feeling sorry for her sister , taught Leah the signs , agreed on with Yaakov , which our Rabbis say were Shabbos Laws and so, Yaakov saw that it was Leah he had married instead of Rachel . When Yaakov confronted Lavan, Lavan said it is not done to give the younger before the elder in that place . Lavan managed to get Yaakov to agree to work another seven years and then , at the end of that very week , Lavan would give Rachel to Yaakov . Yaakov was forced to agree, and one week later, Yaakov was given Rachel . Honest Yaakov , though he was given the wife he wanted at the end of that week, he still kept his word and worked another full seven years . When Yaakov asked Leah how she could have done this to him , she responded how Yaakov had also gone into his own Father acting like his brother .
HaShem Saw that Leah was unloved and so Blessed Leah with Children first . Leah bore Reuvein, then Simeon then Levi and then Yehudah .
Rachel saw she had not yet born children and so she said to Yaakov, " Give me children. " Yaakov told her to pray for herself to G-D . Rachel remembering what Sarah had done with Hagar, offered Yaakov her sister Bilhah whom Lavan had given Rachel to serve her , and so , Bilhah bore Yaakov two sons , Dan and Naphtali . When Leah saw she had stopped giving birth , she too gave Yaakov her sister ,who served her , Zilpah , who also bore two sons , Gad and Asher .
Reuvein went out and picked Dudaim flowers - Mandrakes , to give to his Mother and Rachel asked for them if Leah could be with Yaakov that night . HaShem Had Leah again conceive and she bore Yaakov two more sons , Yisaschar and Zevulun, who were very close to each other , for in the future, while one studied the other supported him and thus got the Kavod for his brother's learning . Leah had now had half the tribes just from her . Leah was about to have another son, when she asked HaShem to rather allow her sister Rachel to at least have two sons so Rachel would at least have the same amount of boys and Tribes as their two other sisters had , and so HaShem changed the son into a daughter, who was called Dinah , whose daughter Osnas , she had with Shechem , eventually married Yosef.
HaShem Allowed Rachel to conceive and she bore Yosef , asking HaShem , within his name, to allow her another son .
After the birth of Yosef, Yaakov, who knew that the Tribe of Yosef has power over Eisav, asked Lavan to let him return home . Lavan got him to work another six years for the flock, and Lavan the swindler, Grand-Father of Bilaam, who, in Moshe's time wanted to curse us, tried to cheat Yaakov 100 times, with giving Yaakov specific coated flocks as pay. But an Angel taught Yaakov how to over come this.
Lavan's sons complained about Yaakov and his wealth , which was gotten by HaShem . It was actually due to HaShem's Blessing through Yaakov, that Lavan had sons at all .
HaShem Appeared to Yaakov, and Told Him to return home , for HaShem's Shechinah does not usually appear over a Tzaddik in Galus Exile .
Yaakov discussed leaving with his wives and they agreed . Before they left , Rachel took her Father's terafim, which were an idol form of a child's skull, into which Lavan put the names of demons where the tongue would be, and burnt incense , till they spoke. Lavan would use them for divination. Rachel took them so her Father would not know where they had gone and also to remove the idolatry from her Father .
Yaakov and his family left Lavan's place secretly.
On the third day, a messenger came and told Lavan who had gone away to pasture, that the water had stopped flowing and it appeared blessings had left the place . Lavan knew Yaakov must have left and so, hotly pursued Yaakov and caught him in one day. HaShem Appeared to Lavan in a dream , on the way , and warned him not to touch Yaakov .
Lavan blamed Yaakov for leaving without a word , even though Lavan would not have let them go, and falsely reminded Yaakov how everything Yaakov had , was Lavan's - the arrogance of an unholy man . Lavan also asked who stole his terafim, suspecting Rachel, and Yaakov said the one who stole it shall not live, not realizing that it was Rachel who stole it .
Lavan started to check all the tents and checked Rachel's belongings too . Now Rachel had hid them in her camel pack-saddle and said she couldn't rise, as her time of the month was upon her .When Lavan couldn't find them, Yaakov then reprimanded Lavan .
They both decided to part in 'peace,' and they set up a monument mound that neither of them were to cross. This was the same mound that Lavan's grandson Bilaam was hit on, mentioned in the Book of Numbers in the Torah , for Bilaam had not respected his Grand-Father's agreement with our people and had crossed over it , jabbing his sword into it , at the time of Moshe . HaShem had the Mound retaliate and Bilaam, was hurt on this mound on his leg as his donkey scraped him on his way past it , and Bilaam ended up being killed by his very sword he had jabbed into it .

Yaakov and Laven parted in 'peace.'
Lavan went back home to his idolworship and found that his house had been burgled . The Blessings for his place were gone with Yaakov's departure from Charan .
Yaakov continued toward the Holy Land and the Angels that had left him after he left the Holy Land , returned to him, and the Angels that had accompanied Yaakov , outside the Holy Land, left him and returned to Heaven . At the Place he saw the Angels of The Holy Land , he said," This is a G-Dly Camp," and called the place Mahanaim .
So ends this Parsha.
The Name of this Parsha is " Vayeitzei ," which means " And Departed ," and refers to Yaakov departing from Be'er Sheva , to head towards his destiny.
The Torah refers to Yaakov's Departure in such a thought provoking way, for when a Righteous man departs from a place, then some of the Holiness goes with him, and a void of sorts is left behind in that place . Yaakov was a very holy man . Here , he was leaving the Holy Land , in search of his destiny and future, which would be his wife and the Twelve Tribes of Israel, again , a meeting at a Well that represents Torah , like the Well where Eliezer had met his Mother .
The word 'Vayeitzei starts with a ' Ve,' which means 'And' showing the contrast of the unholiness of Eisav in the Chapter and Sedra before, meeting impure wives, and the Holy difference of Yaakov, meeting and Fathering a Holy Destiny.
The Hebrew Word 'Yeitzei,' means ' To go out / to rise .' This shows that although Yaakov was leaving the Holy Land for Chutz La'Aretz - Outside the Holy Land , He was still traveling toward his holy destiny which would be 'a rise up' from his position in life before.'
A similar but not the same case ,was with Avram, when HaShem Asked him to Lech Lecha, and leave his place of comfort and follow where HaShem Tells him to go . Yet here in the case of Yaakov, Yaakov had to leave the Holy Place and go into a form of exile .
The fact that the word 'Yeitzei,' also means to rise up, shows that , sometimes we need to come down to Earth , to earn Shamaim Heaven .
Even in Pirkei Avos , this World of Physicality is referred to as the antechamber to prepare us for the World to Come . This could be one of the very reasons Adam Ve Chava had to come down here from Gan Eiden, to be in a World of Preparation, so we can enter into the Holy Spiritual World of Shamaim .
Not every step we take that we think might take us further away from our wants and destination, is necessarily how it appears . HaShem May be wanting us sometimes to climb down a rung or two on the 'Ladder,' just to learn a few lessons so bring us ultimately higher in the end .
Every step we have to take has a reason , even though we may not see the whole picture while we are climbing the ladder slowly ( like in Yaakov's dream ) .
Even hardships one encounters, has a purpose in the scheme of things . It starts with faithful love and trust in HaShem .
The results of the climb up the ladder is to rise up 'Yeitzei ' to Heaven - to the Spiritual beauty of HaShem's Closeness, like what will come at The End Of Days after Mashiach comes . The time of Mashiach, is represented by the number seven (for the Hebrew Word Mashiach is Gematrically Seven) . The Spirtual time there-after is represented by the number 8 of the End of Days time . How interesting that when we take the Hebrew Word "Vayeitzei " and count its Gematrical value , it comes to 6+10+90+1=107 and 1+7 =8 , so within the departure on Yaakov's destiny from the Holy Land, are part of the steps of the ladder , to his travel to the destination of the End of Days for him after Mashiach's time .
The same is for us when we go through our daily lives with tests and trials. Each one , on our Ladder to Heaven, brings us a step closer to HaShem in Shamaim .
Life may get untenable at times, but Shamaim is not just gained with little effort .The Value of Shamaim is beyond what we can imagine , and so do we need at times to work hard to gain It . HaShem Works every instant to ensure we have a beautiful World around us . We need to just be in this beautiful world and treat it as HaShem asks us to .It is His World and His Laws . Only HaShem Knows which rungs of the Ladder , each one of us needs to climb and how each of us needs to get to Him . All we need to do is just put ourselves in His Hands , doing what He wants us to do , and let Him Take us to Him . It starts with one step every day , and each step is a step on the Ladder , of Emunah . As we climb up our own Ladders toward Shamaim and toward Him , we must look ever upward toward improving ourselves Spiritually . HaShem Is Waiting for each of us at the Top . It Starts every moment we exist for every moment we are a part of Creation is a moment of reaching for Heaven . Let us start today . Let us start now . May departure from our past , be in the direction , ever Heavenward , up toward HaShem .
I wish HaShem with Deep Love,a Sweet Beautiful Blessed Shabbos Kodesh with love, and to my fellow Yidden, a sweet beautiful blessed Shabbos Kodesh with love .

Parashas Toldos

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Toldos .
In the previous Parsha, the generation of Avraham and Sarah had passed on and now the next generation was at hand and the one following. This is what is included in this Parsha.
This Parsha starts by telling us ," Eileh Toldos Yitzchak Ben Avraham Avraham Holid Et Yitzchak ," - " These are the offspring of Isaac son of Avraham-Avraham begot Yitzchak ." HaShem had chosen the Jewish line to go through Avraham's son Yitzchak, and it was through this line and this line only that the Jewish People of Israel would continue.
The Torah repeats in this first verse that Yitzchak is the son of Avraham . The reason for this , is that at the time, the people of that day tried to make out that Avimelech ( who had taken Sarah ) , head of the Plishtim , might have been the one who fathered Yitzchak, so to assure all, that Avraham was the genuine Father of Yitzchak , The Torah repeats this fact.
Just looking at Avraham and Yitzchak, there was no doubt , they were Father and son , but to dispel the doubters, HaShem Wrote it twice in this portion , in the first verse of this Parsha .Father and son looked alike and so Avraham asked for signs of age , so the two could be distinguished.
It was for twenty years that Yitzchak and Rivka prayed for children . In this verse near the beginning of the Parsha,Rivka's lineage is mentioned in connection with the time it took before they had a child, to show that her family's influence was one of the reasons why they had to wait so long . When Rivka left with Eliezer, in the previous Parsha to come to Yitzchak , her family had uttered a statement that was partly meant like a curse, that she should come to be myriads - like the Ayin Hora - the Evil eye , so , this lasted twenty years , for Rivka married Yitzchak when Yitzchak was 40 years old ( just 3 years after the Akeidah ) and it took them another 20 years before she could give birth . HaShem had her wait out this period , so her family's words could not be said to be the cause of her becoming ' myriads,' to show it comes purely and only from HaShem Himself .
Eventually , Yitzchak decided to beg HaShem for offspring on Har HaMoria , where the Akeidah took place , with Yitzchak on one side and Rivka on the other ( opposite his wife ) . The time also had to pass, so Avraham's holy line through Yitzchak , could separate itself from the other side of the family of Lavan the Aramean, thus allowing an untainted Jewish Holy Strain through Yaakov , to continue un interrupted and without an aramean taint. The very fact that all our Fore- Mothers Sarah , Rivka and Rachel ,were all at first barren , shows that our Jewish people , are purely a miracle from HaShem and beyond the physicalities of this Earth , and we are here to teach the World about HaShem , The One and Only .
The word used near the beginning of this Parsha for that HaShem Allowed Himself to be entreated to give them a children , is the Hebrew word "Vaye' tar ," which has the Gematrical value of 6+10+70+400+200 = 686 and 6+8+6 =20 , for the 20 years that they begged HaShem , to Bless them with offspring . It shows that we should not give asking for mercy , of HaShem , for Hashem Knows the right time .
Torah says , that the children " Vayitrotzetzu," - " Agitated ," within her . How did they agitate? Within this word, is the Hebrew word ' Rutz /Ratz ' which means to 'Run,' for when she passed a House of Torah Learning, Yaakov wanted to run to it and when she passed a house of idol worship, Aisav wanted to run to it . So she enquired of the people around her ' Why am I thus?' Suffering in such pain and discomfort and the children agitating within her. She went to inquire at the Yeshiva of Shem , and the answer HaShem Gave her is that there were two nations and regimes within her, who would be separated , with opposing motives, one that would serve HaShem and the other that would serve himsef and themselves and the physicalities of this World . And it will be Yaakov who would rule Aisav at the End of Days.
These two children were fighting in the womb and her pain was unbearable , so much so that she at times wondered about children , and so , the right to bear the 12 tribes was taken from her and given to the next generation .
When she was ready to give birth , the two children were still in conflict and even though Yaakov was to be the elder, Aisav pushed him aside and came out first, purposefully damaging and scratching his own Mother's insides , so she could have no more offspring , while Yaakov , who had been pushed aside in the womb , came out holding onto Aisav's heel , thus Yaakov, had within his name , the name ' Eikev' which also meant 'heel .' How interesting that today, Italy , descendants of Rome and thus Edom and Aisav, is shaped like a boot and heel.
Aisav came out completely ruddy, with a full set of red hair ( thus was he named Aisav, like the field full of grass as his head was full of hair ) and teeth, biting and scratching . His brother Yaakov came out , as I mentioned above, holding onto Aisav's heel and so was he called Yaakov .King David too, was born with red hair and slightly ruddy , but he used his talents for the good of Israel , unlike Aisav, who cared only for himself . The Haftorah also refers to Yaakov and Aisav in Malachi 1:1 - 2:7 , thus the reason for this specific Haftorah for this Parsha.
It became obvious as they grew that the two boys had opposite ideals in mind . Yaakov was a wholesome holy man , "Abiding in Tents,". Which meant he stayed and studied HaShem's Learning all the time . Our Rabbis say, no one ever studied Torah as Yaakov did, all the time , even while he was engaged in other things . But Aisav , was a hunter and man of the field . Aisav, would pretend to his father that he was holy and learning , like a Pig , pretending to be Kosher that puts up its feet and shows how its hooves are split ( one half of the two signs to ensure Kashrus) yet inside , not chewing the cud - thus inside , completely treif - not Kosher and impure . Aisav used to hide this with his Father , for when Yitzchak used to ask his son Aisav what he learned today, Aisav , used to sit for a while outside the Yeshiva so he could hear something to deceive his Father with , pretending that he had been inside and learnt it, even though he didn't . Aisav also used to ask his Father deeper questions about a Halachic points , just to pretend he wanted to keep beyond the Law, for example, he once asked his Father ,about taking Ma'aser out of straw, even though such is not done , just to deceive his Father into believing he studied. His Father, having a slight sense to know of his deceit, tried to love him more and at least appreciate some of the physical likes, like game in their mouth , but Rivka, who knew the truth of her sons, favored Yaakov .
A sad Event happened in the family , when Avraham passed away and Yaakov sat down to make for his Father , Lentil stew, the roundness that symbolized the circle of life . As Yaakov was cooking this, Aisav came in from the field, completely drained. Why that day was he so drained? He had spent the day , committing a murder against a fearsome man called Nimrod, the son of the original Nimrod, who had built the Tower of Bavel . Aisav had desired the coat he was wearing, that was originally Adam's , given to subdue animals, and it had been taken from Noach, by Cham's son Canaan and ended up with Nimrod the one who built the Tower of Bavel and the first to get others to rebel against HaShem . While the family was in mourning for his grandfather Avraham , Aisav had followed Nimrod and his soldier and waited for an opportunity to distract the others soldiers, which he instigated, and so killing Nimrod the son of Nimrod and the two soldiers with him , Aisav was then able to steal the coat . So now, Aisav had come in completely exhausted, not even caring about his grandfather Avraham, whom HaShem had taken back, just before Aisav really showed his wicked ways, so as to deprive Avraham of this sad site of this Aisav, turning away from HaShem , even though Avraham sensed Aisav's motives were impure .
Aisav came in and was attracted by the red color ( like blood - thus was he called Edom from the Hebrew word 'Dam'- ' Blood ' ) of the wine and the look of the lentils and so he asked Yaakov to feed. Him . Yaakov saw an opportunity to get the Birthright back, which was originally his, had Aisav not pushed him aside in the womb , for Yaakov thought that this unholy man cannot be the line through which HaShem Gives His Covanant to work to keep the World Holy .And so Yaakov asked him to sell the Birthright. Aisav, knowing this was a Spiritual Gift , the Birthright , and knowing his spiritual days were non existant after his life due to the way he behaved, sold the Birthright , for part of him realized it would not be of benefit to him anyway, becauae he wouldnt get this spiritual reward . Such is the case with unholy people , who live by their physicalities , not realizing that true eternal worth comes through Spiritual Work and Reward .His present Physical here and now life was all he could see ,with his self-chosen debased character. Aisav was asked to swear it was sold to Yaakov, Aisav swore and so , at the reciprocated giving of the food, a legal binding arrangement had been made, that now the birthright belonged to Yaakov and his descendants . Yaakov had saved and assured it for our people forever .
Aisav was a man who liked taking already married women, or killing many a man . He was intelligent and was often called to catch a liar in court for he could get the perpetrator to admit things they had done. He could have used his intelligence in HaShem's Service, but rather chose to serve himself .
A famine broke out in the land, worse than in Avraham's time and Yitzchak settled in Gerar .Again, he did as his Father did, and said his wife is his sister. But Avimelech gazed down and caught their true relationship as husband and wife . Avimelech warned his people not to harass them .Yitzchak became very wealthy and the Plishtim had stopped up all the wells his Father Avraham had dug. Avimelech chased Yitzchak away and Yitzchak again opened the wells his Father had dug , calling them by the same names his Father had called them .
Then Torah tells of three other wells ( which our Rabbis say represent the future of our Three Temples ) that Yitzchak opened , the First one he called Essek , due the quarreling the Gerar herdsman made with him , like our First Temple . The Second Well , where they quarreled also , he called Sitnah - like our Second Temple , and the Third Well, where no quarreling took place over it and he named it Rehovot , like our Third Temple to come , in which it will stand forever and we will have ample space in the Land of Eretz Yisroel Given to us by HaShem ( as this Well represented ) .
HaShem Appeared to Yitzchak and the covenant was reeiterated between HaShem and Yitzchak and his offspring .
When Avimelech saw that after he had kicked out Yitzchak and chased him away , he didn't do so well, and so he went with his friends and general to call Yitzchak back .Here in this portion of the Torah , is the typical remark of Anti- Semitism through our history , how we were kicked out , but it was in 'peace ' that we were kicked out,as if to say they and the gentile nations through history did us a favor by mistreating us and at least some let us live , even though they kicked us out of the land without anything of ours , we had worked for .
The two left eachother in 'peace.'
It was then that Aisav, we are told , at the same age as his Father was when Yitzchak married, also copied as a show, and took two foreign Non- Jewish wives , idol-worshipers and presented them to his parents with Made up Jewish sounding names . Yitzchak and Rivka knew and were very upset .
Time went on and Yitzchak's eyes dimmed . Our Rabbis say, it was so arranged that Yitzchak would go blind, so the Blessings could be correctly given to the right son Yaakov and also that Yitzchak would not have to see the idol worshiping women his son Aisav brought home , for the blindness is mentioned right after that . The time came for Yitzchak to Bless his supposed eldest son , supposed firstborn Aisav, so he called him and asked him to go fetch that which he loves and prepare it and thus make Yitzchak's spirit joyful enough to be able to Bless him.
Rivka heard and called her son Yaakov to go in instead . A true holy wife, corrects the spiritual error of her husband and thus saves her husband too . Rivka was a true Eishes Chayil .
Yaakov did not want to do this, but Rivka told him to go take two goats that she owned , given to her by her husband two a day as part of the Kiddushin agreement ,and to bring it to her , so she could prepare it in the way her husband likes . Yaakov was concerned about his smooth skin , where Aisav was a hairy man , and by providence, Aisav had left his coat he had taken from Nimrod at home that day. Rivka put it on her son Yaakov and off Yaakov went .
Yaakov approached his Father trembling and as he asked permission to enter, he referred to HaShem , something Aisav would not do . When asked who he is , Yaakov did not want to lie and thus answered ," It is I Aisav (saying quietly to himself ," is " ) your firstborn ." Also, Yitzchak smelled the fragrance of " A Garden / Field that HaShem Had Blessed ,". the smell of Gan Eiden , and Yitzchak knew, his son Aisav would not have such a holy fragrance to him , so he called his son close to touch him and kiss him ,to make sure , and Yitzchak felt the garment of Aisav. Thus said Yitzchak , " The Voice is the Voice of Yaakov (Holy and Sweet ) , but the Hands ( that would do this thing ) are the hands of Aisav ." These words of Yitzchak, became the prophecy for our future, because when we all speak and learn (Including our children ) Words of Torah , the hands of Aisav - ( Amalek - Agag Haman and others from their line through history ) cannot overcome us . Yitzchak Blessed him for then , and for the future and till the End of Days .
Yaakov was blessed to be over all his brothers and Blessed with the sweetness from Shamaim .So had Yaakov secured our very lives and future as Jews .
But what happened to Aisav all this time?
Malachim - Angels kept him very busy, not allowing him to catch animals and those he did catch and tie up, were let loose .
Eventually , Aisav , fed up , went home and killed and cooked the family dog .Aisav arrived just as Yaakov left , only to find that his brother had just gotten the Blessing . We are told, that Aisav cried three loud and bitter cries, one tear from his right eye, one from his left and the third he kept in, while he kept begging his Father for a Blessing. Yitzchak told him that whatever he would bless Aisav with, would belong to Yaakov, for Yaakov was made a master over him, and the master owns all the slave possesses. The Three tears Aisav cried, he would be able to take out on us though History, if we don't adhere to Torah . In the story of Purim, it says, when Mordechai heard of Haman's Decree, Mordechai cried out , " A loud and bitter cry ."
When Aisav mentioned to his Father Yitzchak that he had sold his Birthright to Yaakov, Yitzchak stopped fearing that he had Blessed the wrong son, and so responded that 'He shall remain Blessed ."
Yitzchak Blessed Aisav only for the fatness of the Earth in Physicality, in Olam HaZe: The Present World , like Germany, and Rome, that had vast wealth , but as Rome , the children of Edom Eisav came and will come to be small and come to nought, so too, will the other enemies of us Jews find the same fate .
Eisav never forgave Yaakov and wanted his own Father to die soon, so he could take revenge.
He knew that if he takes action against Yaakov himself, he would be charged. So he went and married the daughter of Yishmael , whose name was Mahalath, so as to persuade her Father , who also harbored a hatred for being shunned by Yitzchak, to kill Yaakov, but this plan never took place, as Yishameal died just before his daughter married Aisav .
Rivka called her son Yaakov and told him to go to her family till Aisav's anger calms, but he wouldn't go until Yitzchak his Father sent him, and so , Rivka told Yitzchak , who sent Yaakov to Rivka's Family. Here again , knowingly, Yitzchak openly Blessed Yaakov , reiterating and thus agreeing to and confirming the Blessings given before. So ends the Parsha .
The Parsha is called Toldot," - " Offspring ," and refers to the family of and generations to come of the Jewish People , to whom HaShem Gave the Torah to bring Light to the World and teach the World about the True G-D HaShem .
The very fact that Yitzchak is mentioned as the next generation of Avraham, shows a Holy worthiness , to carry on the Torch of Holy HaShem's Yiddishkeit . The next generation, was to streamline itself, with the help of Yaakov, who put his own life on the line, to ensure his " Toldot" - "Generations" and "Offspring" would be Blessed and continue, even though he never personally had physical reward himself in his own lifetime, but did all for his children and us Jews, so that we would have a future in HaShem 's Path of Torah . That is the true "Toldot," the true way Generations are worthy to continue.
We Jews are not like many others, that live just for physical pursuits. Our very destiny is a Spiritual one, heading for HaShem . Though nations have tried to kill us and remove us, we are still here, and none have been able to remove us from HaShem's Torah and Path . Their attempts to do so, have its aim in trying to destroy us , for if they get the Jew to leave Yiddishkeit Chas Ve Shalom , then the hands of Aisav can try overcome , Chas Ve Shalom .It is thus the only true way to fight anti-semitism, to ensure we never Chas Ve Shalom leave HaShem and His Torah and ensure that Israel remains a Torah Home . It is our duty to ensure that the "Toldot," - "Generations" of ours continue till Mashiach and beyond forever, to keep HaShem's Torah and Follow all The Commandments of our Creator . That is truly keeping the "Toldot ." We are to fill each "Toldot " - " Generation "
With HaShem's Torah Light . We are not to curry favor with others , by letting go of our Gift from HaShem of Torah and a Torah way of life . To lessen on any Laws Chas Ve Shalom , even a single Law, is to lessen on what we owe HaShem . To go away from HaShem can start only with small steps and soon , that offspring from a long line of Jews, could be lost Chas Ve Shalom . To lessen in any way, on Torah and its Laws and its Values , just to be as others, is a total loss of the long line of Yiddishkeit. Our generations before us , died in pogroms and the holocaust and inquisitions and crusades and massacres and other killings and murders perpetrated on us through history every day of the year , through time of our people, just so you and I can be Jewish today . Don't ever take Jewishness lightly or give away this Precious Gift . We owe it to HaShem and those lost for Kiddush Hashem , to remain Holy Torah Jews, and if other people don't like it, they are against HaShem and His Commands. Listen and follow G-D , not other people . Remember that you are a Jew, and HaShem Gave you the Gift of being Jewish . Remain so and keep to Its Tenets . Follow all of Torah , for to lessen on one Law of G-D in Torah, Chas Ve Shalom , is to turn away from G-D . Be proud to be a Jew and who HaShem Made you to be , A Torah Jew that teaches others to follow HaShem.
So let us once and for all, destroy the 'Hands of Aisav,' by making sure each one of us , from generation to generation speaks the words of Yaakov , that lead us to HaShem Forever .
I wish HaShem with Very Deep and Sweet Love, a Very Beautiful and Sweet Shabbos Kodesh with Love and to all my fellow Yidden, a Holy , Beautiful and Sweet Shabbos Kodesh with love .
