Parashas Eikev

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Eikev. Here Moshe starts by referring to the reward. For listening to HaShem.
Moshe does not suggest that we should follow HaShem for a reward but HaShem will still reward us for our faithfulness in following Him.
Within the word 'Eikev,' are the words 'Ikar Kav,' which means 'Border / Line - Principle,' thus suggesting that if we are unable to follow G-D for the right reasons, then we are still to place a line or border to our behaviour and follow out of principle for the right thing to do,for G-D gives us so much and Created us all and so, out of principle and correctness, we owe HaShem all.
In setting up a 'Kav,' - 'A line or border,' we draw a line against the Yetzer Horah,so that we don't let it overcome us.The very fact that the term 'Eikev,' - which also means 'Heel,' is mentioned , reminds us of how HaShem said in the beginning to the snake, which is the Yetzer Horah that it will bite the heel and be stood on,' showing that we fight our Yetzer Horahs all the time,in almost every decision we make and if we keep the thought in our minds that HaShem,Who is the Creator,Makes all things and gives us life,we ,by 'Ikar'-'Basic Principle,' owe HaShem for our lives and all He gives us and so will fight the Yetzer Horah and follow HaShem with love.
Some people are only on a level of doing the right things for an 'Eikev,' a 'Reward,' but that is because they do not look deep into things and realize it is HaShem Who they owe to 'Follow,' - for the word 'Follow' is also the Hebrew word 'Akeiv.
The Gematriah of the word 'Eikev,' is 70+100+2=172 and 1+7+2='10' and 1+0='1' .10 is the number of completion and also the number of the pronouncements that HaShem used to Create Creation . This shows that in the very foundation of us all , is the worthiness within each one of us, for this World to have been Created for each one of us,as long as we keep to HaShem's Torah. The '1' represents HaShem Who is One. If we keep to HaShem's Laws,we become one with HaShem , Who is One.
The word 'Eikev,' which means 'Heel,' which is the foundation of our body reminds us of the very heart of our existence which is HaShem, for all existence ,exists only due to HaShem. If HaShem stopped thinking of every part of His Creation, for an instant, all would cease to exist. At the innermost centre of everything, Is HaShem .
The greatest 'Eikev,' - 'Reward,' is to be with HaShem , Who is our 'Eikev,' our very life-force ,our very foundation .We owe all things to HaShem and the word 'Owe,' in Hebrew can also be 'Eikev.'
The word 'Eikev,' as I said refers to 'Heel,' which is at the bottom of the body. Though it is our support, it is just the start. We need to work with that 'Heel,' so it can take us where we need to go.It is the 'kick-off,' the start of our journey in the physical. Where that journey takes us, is up to us and our own choices.G-D gives us a start, but leaves it up to us to finish what we are supposed to do and be - A Holy People. This can be accomplished by,from the very start, turning our 'Heel,' in the direction of HaShem and leading the physical body toward HaShem, through keeping HaShem's Commandments.
In this Parsha, the second chapter of the Shema Prayer is given , where HaShem shows He will give us our rain - our nourishment - in its season .This will be on condition that we keep to HaShem's Commandments. We have to walk a narrow 'Line' 'Kav,' toward HaShem and not stray after our own hearts and wishes that are not on a level to know what to do,or what is truly needed. We need to follow HaShem , Who will lead us back to Him , with HaShem's Torah Laws .Moshe tells us ,' Ve Hayah Eikev Tish'me'un Eit Ha Mishpatim Ha ' Eileh ,' - ' This shall be the reward when you hearken to these ordinances,' the word 'Tish'me'un,' - ' Hearken,' has within it the Hebrew word ' Shemah,'- 'Hear ,' for to listen, we first have to properly 'hear.' If we are closed off, we will not hear. We need to open our hearts to the hearing and then we will hear HaShem .It is thus due to the closed hearts of the people , that we no longer hear HaShem Speaking to us . HaShem , is not like a human being that speaks on the surface to our ears . HaShem Speaks to our heart , to the love in our heart that needs to be there for the Creation HaShem showers us with .When we turn our hearts ,the physical organ that 'Wants ,' toward HaShem , then all we do and all our desires and actions will be 'Leshaim Ha Shamaim ,'-' For the sake of Heaven '- 'For the sake of HaShem .' Listening to HaShem , will automatically put us on a new path, a path of sweetness and holiness that leads to G-D . All other paths that are uncomfotable , will cease to exist for us. All we need to do is 'Hearken - Hear ' HaShem speaking to our heart.
Within this Parsha and the second chapter of the Shema Prayer, it says in Devarim 11:15 , 'Venatati Eisev Be'Sad'cha Liv'Hemtecha Ve' Achalta Ve'Sava'ta,' - 'I Shall Provide grass in your field for your cattle and you will eat and be satisfied,' and this shows one of the rewards that HaShem will give us, not to worry about a livelihood for HaShem will assist us to make it easier to earn a living, if we focus all things on HaShem and His Torah. But within this verse is another moral lesson. In this verse, HaShem mentions feeding the cattle before our own grain that will satisfy us. Our Rabbis of very Blessed memory taught us that this shows that we are to always feed our animals before ourselves, for this verse mentions feeding cattle first, before our own satisfaction.Animals are HaShem's friends and thus should be treated with respect. HaShem Created the animal before the human and this shows how important animals are to HaShem . This verse also shows another moral lesson. This must be the way of living a moral life, for we need to always look after others before ourselves. We are not in this World to get out of it for ourselves what we can. That is not what 'satisfies' living. We are here to morally watch over others before ourselves. This was one of the reasons the four cities of Sodom, Amorah (Gemorrah) , Admah and Zeboiim were destroyed,as mentioned in the book of Bereishis , because people there only cared for themselves and not others. There is a lot of that in this day and age and so , the world remains 'unsatisfied.' HaShem instructs us to feed our cattle before ourselves and then we will eat and be 'satisfied.' This is the way to live.
HaShem constantly puts His own Pains aside for how we behave, to grant us mercy. So must we put our own needs aside for HaShem and for all that is within His Creation . Start on an 'Eikev,' a 'Foundation - Heel' of Torah and Mitzvos , following HaShem, and being moral to others and HaShem will truly Bless this World with 'Eikev' - 'Reward,' of His Precious Shechinah always 'Karov,' - 'Close.'
Let your every 'Eikev,' - 'Heel,' be always steps and actions, toward HaShem .
With love to HaShem, I wish HaShem with love , a Blessed Sweet and Precious Shabbos Kodesh with love and to , all a blessed , sweet and precious Shabbos Kodesh with love.
