The Shabbos Parasha is Parashas Nasso . The Sedra of Nasso starts by teaching us about Levi's Son Gershon's Tribal responsibilities and what they are to " Nasso " " Carry . " In the previous Parsha , we discussed what the Kohathites ( Levi's other son's Tribe ) carried and so here In This Parsha , we learn what Levi's other sons' Tribes ( Gershon and Merari ) " Nasso " - " Carried . " In This Parsha , we also learn about the Nazarite and so The Haftorah For This Parsha Is In Shoftim - Judges 13 : 2 - 25 , Which also speaks about a son who will be born to the Tribe of Dan , who is to be a Nazarite , the famous Shimshon Samson who was also to follow the same Laws of the Nazarites . In This Sedra , HaShem Tells Moshe To " Nasso " - " Take " a census of the sons of Gershon according to their Father's household and families from 30 years of age and up to 50 years of age And HaShem Tells Moshe What their task is to be , to carry the curtains of the Tabernacle and The Tent of Meeting , It's Cover and the Tachash ( which according to some opinions may have been a unicorn ) cover , the Screen of the Entrance of The Tent of Meeting , the lace hangings of the Courtyard and Altar , their ropes and all utensils of their service and they are to be under the authority of Aharon's son Ithamar . HaShem Tells Of the count to be made of Merari's Tribal families , from 30 years of age and up till 50 years of age and their work which will include the carrying of the planks of The Tabernacle , It's bars and pillars and sockets , the pillars of the Courtyard all around and their sockets , pegs and ropes for all the utensils and work and the Tribal families of Merari will also be under the authority of Aharon's son Ithamar . HaShem Then Commands the Children of Israel that they shall remove from the Camp all with tzaraas , all who had a zav emission and all that are contaminated by a human corpse , whether male or female , they are to be expelled to the outside of the Camp . The underlying essence within This Sedra is certainly also one of Purity . The Jewish Camp at the time had With it The Closeness Of HaShem Surrounding it And Being Within it and so , the Jewish Camp had to be Pure and Holy and Mitzvah Following as it should always be through time , for we carry the Special Beauty Of HaShem's Oneness And Closeness Within our Jewish neshomas that we Jews are to profess to all around us and we are to be A Light Unto The Nations - Yeshayahu Isaiah 42:6 , Professing HaShem's Oneness To all . HaShem Then Commands That if a man or woman commits a sin , in reference here to theft , they are to confess their sin and make restitution for their guilt in it's principal amount and add also a fifth to it and give it to the one they indebted . If the one they wronged is not alive and has no kinsman , then the debt is paid To HaShem , by giving it to the Kohein . HaShem Then Discusses The Laws Of the Sotah , the wayward wife who is unfaithful to her husband . The Law Of the Sotah Is So Important To HaShem , That HaShem Will Even have His Own Name erased , In Order To Ensure Purity In our Nation and Sholom Bayis Peace within the home and Peace between husband and wife . Purity and Tznius and Modesty and Family Purity and Faithfulness between husband and wife is so important and faithfulness between couples is akin To Faithfulness To HaShem , Just As HaShem Wants us To Be Faithful To Him . But what is The Law Of the Sotah ? If any man has a wife that goes astray and thus commits treachery against him , which is like committing treachery against HaShem , Chas Ve Shalom , this man can bring this case up for judgement . In this case , the Testing of the Sotah will only act if the man himself has been pure and faithful himself and if he has treated his wife correctly as far as him not straying , as is taught in Gemorrah Sotah . The case can be brought against the wife if the husband suspects his wife of being carnally with another man where it was hidden from the husband , where she became secluded with the other man and where , in this seclusion , she could have become defiled , but not forced , but there was no witness against her defilement , So It Was Only HaShem Who Would Know . This negative action alone , would cause a spirit of jealousy to reach the husband . The husband has to first warn his wife about this man , for she should not seclude herself with any other man but her husband . Such Is The Holy Jewish Way Of Purity between husband and wife , that she only be alone with her husband and he is only to be alone with his wife . Such Jewish Laws are explained among the Laws of Yichud and these Laws prevent seclusion of either gender with the opposite gender , when not married . In the case of the Sotah , the husband is to bring his wife near and stand her Before HaShem and thus before the Kohein . The husband is not to have any physical relations with her after he accuses her , before she is tested with the Waters of the Sotah . If he does so , she is not tested and he forfeits the test . The man is to bring his wife to the Kohein and also an offering when bringing her , the offering is to be the offering of jealousies and so , frankincense is not to accompany the offering , for such an accusation and possible happening of possible infidelity is not a positive kind of occasion and thus sweetening the offering with frankincense would be out of place . The offering is to be a tenth - ephah of barley flour , a meal offering of remembrance and reminder of iniquity . The reason that barley flour was chosen was that barley flour is the lowest form of flour and is usually used as animal - feed and is thus representative of this low and physical action of adultery , for adultery is totally unholy and thus is a show of how she let her physical carnal animalistic desires come to the fore . She shall stand before the Kohein and he shall adjure her many times and try to persuade her to admit her guilt , for if she does admit her guilt , the Sotah test does not need to be performed . She is dressed in a way that is low physically , for she let her physical desires rule her . Where before , she used her physicality to attract the other man , now she is dishevelled and made to look as unattractive as possible . The Kohein shall then take the Sacred Water in an earthenware vessel ( representative of her earthly unholy physical desires ) and the Kohein shall take from the earth that is on the floor of the Tabernacle ( in Temple times , there was a specific tile in the Temple floor that could be lifted and earth taken from there ) and it is put into the Sacred Water and the woman shall be stood Before HaShem and her hair uncovered as she did for the other man that was not her husband and upon her hands that she used for cheating on her husband , shall be put the meal offering of remembrance - a meal offering of jealousies , while in the hand of the Kohein shall be the bitter waters that cause curse . The Kohein shall adjure the woman to try and have her confess , asking her the words pertaining to this stage of the test That Are Directly Written In The Holy Torah . The Kohein shall then adjure the woman with the oath of the curse and repeat the words That Are Written In The Holy Torah that if she was unfaithful , she shall be rendered a curse and oath to her people ( for her name will always be connected with her adulteress actions from then on ) When HaShem Causes her thigh to collapse , that she lay with near the other man and her stomach to distend , that she used to eat delicacies and drink wine with the other man to entice him . The Kohein repeats this and she is to answer two Ameins . The reason that she answers two Ameins , is for herself and the man she is standing accused of being with and in case she was with any other man , that is not known of by the husband . The Kohein shall then inscribe these curses That Are Written In The Holy Torah , on a scroll and erase it into the bitter waters . It is here , Where HaShem Is Letting His Holy Name be erased , which shows how important is Fidelity and Faithfulness To HaShem , between husband and wife . The Kohein shall then take the meal offering of jealousies from the woman's hand and wave it Before HaShem and he shall offer it on the Altar . The Kohein shall then scoop up from the meal offering , its remembrance and cause it to go up in smoke on the Altar . The woman is then to drink the bitter waters . If she has committed treachery against her husband , the waters will come into her for bitterness ( for the bitter action that she did ) and her stomach will distend and her thigh will collapse and this woman shall be a curse amid her people . But if she had not become defiled , she is Pure and will be Blessed To Be Given seed - offspring . The man with whom she was with , if she did commit adultery or was unfaithful to her husband , will get the same punishment instantly as she gets , no matter where he might be . Even if she was innocent , the very fact that she isolated herself with another male , is not how the Purity of our Jewish people is to be and so , she brought upon herself , the test of the Sotah . It once happened that a woman had committed adultery and she had a twin sister . They thought they could trick the test by the twin sister who was unfaithful swopping places with her twin sister who had not been involved in the Aveirah , taking the Sotah Test . The twin sister was obviously proved innocent . But when she went back to the city where her sister , who was the one who had committed the defilement and deceit against her husband was waiting for her , when both sisters in happiness for thinking they had gotten away with it , hugged and kissed each other , the waters of bitterness passed from the twin sister to the real wife who had been unfaithful and the unfaithful wife died with all the curses of this Test at that very moment . After a time , when the Jews were living in later Temple times , the people became less and less holy and so were not even worthy of this test , for so many were sadly not Pure as they should have been and so the test was stopped . HaShem Values , So Very Much , Purity within us . We Jews are to be A Pure Holy People Unto HaShem and not engage in the practices of the other nations that were in Canaan before we came into the Land . We are to be a Holy people , Modest and Always Pure and Holy Unto HaShem . Unfaithfulness to one's spouse is unfaithfulness To HaShem Who Blesses Couples with their partner . One who can be unfaithful to a partner , will be unfaithful To HaShem . This fact , the Prophet Hosea talks of a lot in his Book in the Holy Tanach . HaShem's Holy Torah then discusses the Laws of the Nazarite , akin to The Haftorah Of This Sedra . The Nazarite is one who chooses to live a Holier life , abstaining from wine and grapes . All the days of his Nazarite vow , he is not to go near these products and he shall not cut his hair and not come near a dead person . He chooses to take this upon himself so as to grow Spiritually In Holiness . This portion of the Nazirite is mentioned In The Holy Torah after the Laws of the Sotah for both deal with Purity and like a woman who used wine to entice her adulterer , the Nazirite does the opposite and abstains from wine . Should the Nazirite become contaminated during his Nazirus period , he shall perform the sacrificial offerings and again begin the term of the Nazarite from the start . The Holy Torah also explains what the Nazarite is to do at the completion of the term . The idea of a sin offering also being brought by the Nazirite , has a specific purpose . Even though the Nazarite was trying to abstain for Holy reasons , HaShem Gives us What He Does , even physical things within The Law for enjoyment , according to what is allowed By Law for us to partake of His Bounty . When we prevent ourselves by choice , from partaking Of What HaShem Has Allowed us , we are actually depriving ourselves From What HaShem Allowed us And From What HaShem Made For us to partake of And HaShem Knows Better . We Should thus be able to control ourselves and our desires in this World , no matter how we are tested . Holiness must always reign supreme . Also , as Ramban tells us , the Sin Offering is for the return to physical non - lasting temporary pursuits in this World , which this person now returns to , after completing the term of the Nazarite . HaShem's Holy Beautiful Ands Special Torah Then Tells us Of The Holy Priestly Blessings which the Kohanim are to say when they Bless the People . The Priestly Blessing is in three verses , which the Kohanim nowadays say on Yomim Tovim in the Shul . Originally the three verses were said as one long verse by the Kohanim and the people , whom the Kohanim are to face , with their hands raised and fingers split in the way Halacha teaches . This was originally said with us saying a single Amein after the full Blessing was completed . Now we say an Amein after each verse . The hand positions of the Kohanim were done so that there would be five openings between their fingers and two on the outside , making seven , like Moshiach ( whose Gematriah is seven and the word Moshiach is seven Gematrically ) and the holy number seven like seven words make up the first verse Of HaShem's Holy Torah In Bereishis Genesis and like the Holy Seventh Day Is HaShem's Holy Shabbos and like the Seventh year in Israel is the Shemittah Year and like we counted Seven weeks between Pesach and Shavuot , where the following day after the Seventh week is Shavuot , The Holy Day On Which HaShem Revealed Himself On Har Sinai And Gave us His Holy Torah And Ten Commandments . How Holy Are all things in Holy Judaism and how Holy were the Kohanim to be , even in the hand positions in which they held their hands with these Seven divisions when Blessing K'lal Yisroel . HaShem's Shechinah Would Filter Through these gaps around their hand positions and thus Through the Kohanim who stand before us with no shoes out of respect and so , we would thus Be Blessed By HaShem . The three verses in the Priestly Blessing are like the three days before Shavuot That HaShem Gave us to prepare For HaShem's Revelation ; the three months from Nissan to Sivan ; when we received the Torah in Sivan on the Sixth of Sivan ; the three parts of Jewry being the Kohanim , Levi'im and Yisroel ; the three parts of the Pesach Seder we are to mention of the Matzah , Maror and the Pashcal Lamb and also , With HaShem and the wife and the husband coming together to bring the newborn child . There are many other threes in Judaism , but these were just a few examples representing the Holiness within all of Judaism and within the three verses of the Priestly Blessing . In days of old , the Kohanim would say the Priestly Blessing every day and then it became only on Shabboses and Yomim Tovim . Now we have it on only Yomim Tovim . HaShem's Holy Torah Then Continues With the offerings brought by each Tribe by their Leader on the Day that Moshe finished erecting The Tabernacle and anointing It , Sanctifying It and all It's Utensils and the Altar and all It's Utensils . Moshe had erected the Tabernacle and then taken it down on each day that he officiated , but on this day it was set up as a permanence . We note that each Tribe Miraculously brought the same things . This was a Miracle , for each Tribe thought at the same moment to bring the same things without knowing what the other Tribes would bring . Each Tribe had Its general community reason as well as It's own personal reason for bringing what It brought , in the numbers of each item that It brought , that had a common purpose with the whole of Israel , as well as a personal reason that had something to do with that particular Tribe in It's history . Also , each Tribe's Offering was repeated in the Sedra , even though it was the same as each other Tribe , For HaShem Was Showing That each Tribe's Offering Was So Very Special To HaShem . As an example , the weight of the one silver bowl was 130 shekels , which was , as Ramban tells us the age of Adam ha Rishon , when he had his child Seth Shais , In The Book Of Bereishis . The one silver basin was 70 shekel in the sacred shekel , like the number of Moshiach and of the 70 nations in the World . The gold ladle of 10 shekels , was like The Ten Pronouncements That HaShem Pronounced In Creating Creation and also The Ten Commandments That HaShem So Lovingly Gave On Har Sinai . As Ramban says , the word " Ka'arat Kesef " for the " Silver Bowl " comes to 930 in Gematriah , which was the age of Adam ha Rishon , when he passed away . As Ramban tells us , the 5 rams , 5 he-goats and 5 sheep in their first year , as given by all the Tribes and also given by the Tribe of Yehudah , comes to the number 15 , which were the number of Kings between Rehoboam and Zedekiah . So each and every thing In HaShem's Holy Torah , Has Its very Deep and very Holy reason . At the end of the Bringing , all is totalled , for the Dedication of the Altar after It was Anointed . When Moshe came to The Tent of Meeting To Speak To HaShem , Moshe Heard HaShem's Voice Speaking To him From The Top Of The Cover , That Was On The Ark Of The Testimony , Between The Two K'ruvim - Cherubim And HaShem Spoke To Moshe . Here ends the Parsha . The Parsha is called " Nasso " - " Take , " but the word " Nasso " also means " Carry and Lift . " When we bring offerings To HaShem , or do HaShem's Mitzvos , we " Lift " ourselves Up To HaShem And So HaShem " Carries " us To Him . We are in this Physical World to " Nasso " - " Raise " our Spiritual levels and Be At One In Closeness With HaShem . In this World we are here to gain merit . We are not here to just waste our lives on empty Physical pursuits . This is what we can also learn from The Laws of the Sotah in this Sedra and also from The Laws of the Nazarite in this Sedra . Our lives are not just for a momentary value-less pleasure or for a lifetime of song and dance . We are here to gain HaShem's Favour . We lost that when we were forced out of Gan Eiden after the Aveirah And HaShem Every Day Gives us the opportunity To Go Back Home . In Gan Eiden HaShem " Nasso " - " Carried " For us , every need . Whatever we needed was there for us To Be Gifted With receiving this From HaShem . That Is HaShem's Love In Creation . We made the errors . We did the wrongs . We did not Listen And we did not Hearken To HaShem . And till today we still disobey . We still want to do our own things and we still want our own way and we really do not appreciate The Wonderful Miracles Of HaShem And HaShem's Laws For our benefit , To Be our Pathway Back Into Gan Eiden Where HaShem " Nasso " - " Carries " us In Love . We can see By HaShem's Abundant Creation , Just How Much HaShem Loves us And Really Wants To Bless us With so many things That HaShem Wants To Give us . All we need To Do Is Listen To HaShem . HaShem Asks This of us For our sakes . HaShem So Desires To Bless us With All His Goodness And Bounty Within Creation . The very word " Nasah " means " High and Lofty " ( Silverman's Dictionary ) . This Is What The Mitzvos Of HaShem Give us . To Bring ourselves On High And Be At One With HaShem . Every time that we give of ourselves In doing What HaShem Wants us To Do , we " Nasso " - " Take and Carry " ourselves higher . HaShem Wants To Carry us . We Need To Obey HaShem And Let HaShem " Nasso " - " Carry " us To Him . We Need To Be A Part Of Completing The Beauty That HaShem Created Around us , By Obeying HaShem Whole - heartedly and so take the final step Into Gan Eiden . The Gematriah of the word " Nasso " is 50 + 300 + 1 = 351 and 3 + 5 + 1 = 9 , the number before 10 , where 10 is the number of Completion . This teaches us That Doing HaShem's Mitzvos , Is the Step before " Nasso " - " Taking " ourselves Up To HaShem And Letting HaShem Carry us Into Olam Habah , The World To Come In Gan Eiden And Shamayim . If we take the letters of " Nasso " and put them backwards , we get " Ashan " which is the root of the word " Ashanav " which means " Window . " ( Silverman's Dictionary ) So our very Obedience Of Doing HaShem's Mitzvos , Opens The " Window " Of HaShem's Shamayim Heaven To us And Also Allows HaShem's Beautiful Rays Of Light To Shine Upon us , Through HaShem's " Window " Of Shamayim . We cannot possibly imagine The Beautiful Merit In Each And Every Holy Mitzvah that we do . We are not , in this Physical Realm , on a level to fully appreciate The Amazing Value Of Each Mitzvah Of HaShem . Only when we have Done What HaShem Wants From us And Raised our level to Holy Heights , will we be able to appreciate How Truly Wonderful And Magnificent Is Each Mitzvah Of HaShem And How Each Mitzvah " Nasso " - " Carries " us " High " And Opens For us , HaShem's " Window " Into HaShem's Closeness And How , Through That Holy " Window , " HaShem's Rays Of Warmth And Light And Love , Shine Upon Us And Bring us Close , " Nasso " - " Lifting " us And " Nasso " - " Carrying " us Into The Beautiful Arms And Hands Of HaShem HaKadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . I dedicate this Torah Parsha writing to my Beloved Abba a"h . May HaShem Bless my Beloved Abba a"h With A Holy Aliyah B'Gan Eiden And Shamayim . The Shabbos Sedra is Parashas Bamidbar which starts out the Fourth Book Of The Torah , The Book Of Bamidbar - Numbers . This Holy Shabbos is also the Shabbos before Shavuot , when we Jews Received From HaShem The Holy Torah On Har Sinai . The Book of Bamidbar - Numbers , starts out with the countings of Israel and so the Haftorah for this Shabbos is Hosea 2 : 1 - 22 , which starts out also referring to the numbers of Israel " being like the sand of the sea , which can neither be measured nor counted . " This Parsha Sedra begins With HaShem Speaking To Moshe In The " Bamidbar " - " In the Wilderness " of Sinai , In The Tent of Meeting , On the first of Iyar ( the Hebrew Month after Nissan ) , in the second year after leaving Mitzrayim - Egypt . How interesting it is that during that very month , we count the Omer from Pesach to Shavuot as we climb to purify and better ourselves In HaShem's Mitzvos and it is at this time as we near Shavuot , that we read this Parsha of Bamidbar , where this Sedra is also about the countings of Israel , so counting and Taking Stock of ourselves is certainly A Path Toward Holiness . HaShem Tells Moshe To take a census of the entire Assembly of the Children of Israel , according to their families , according to their Father's household , by number of the names , every male according to the head count , from twenty years and up , everyone who goes out to the Legion in Israel , Moshe and Aharon are to count them according to their Legions and with Moshe while they are counted , must also be present with him , the Prince - Leader of each Tribe representing their Tribe . HaShem Gives Moshe the names of the Leaders of the Tribes who are to stand with him . How interesting that each leader and their Father's name , has within it , Out Of HaShem's Love , Different Versions Of HaShem's Names . For Reuven , Elitzur son of Shedeur ( HaShem's Name Shaddai ) ; For Simeon , Shelumiel son of Tzurishaddai ( HaShem's Name Shaddai ) ; For Yehudah , Nachshon son of Amminadav ( Shin Letter representing HaShem's Name with A Shin As Shaddai ) ; For Issachar , Nethanel son of Tzuar ( HaShem's Name El ) ; For Zevulun , Eliav son of Chelon ( HaShem's Name El ) ; For Yosef - For Ephraim , Elishama son of Ammihud ( HaShem's Name El ) ; For Manasseh , Gamliel son of Pedahtzur ( HaShem's Name El ) ; For Binyamin , Avidan son of Gid'oni ( HaShem's Name Dai From Shaddai) ; For Dan , Achie'ezer son of Ammishaddai ( HaShem's Name Shaddai ) ; For Asher , Pagiel son of Achran ( HaShem's Name El ; For Gad , Elyasaph son of Deuel ( HaShem's Name El ) And Naphtali , Achira son of Einan ( HaShem's Name El ) . So HaShem's Love And Names Were In the names of these Tribal Leaders of Israel . Thank you HaShem For Your Love And Faith In our People Israel Through Time . This was the third time that we were counted . The first time was when we left Egypt . The next time was after the Chayit Ha Eigel - the Incident of the Golden Calf . And now we were counted again . The First count showed How HaShem Had Blessed our Tribes in Egypt to grow Miraculously from 70 souls that came to Egypt , to the large amount that we were at the time of that particular count . The second count was to ascertain the amount of those left after the golden calf And Now HaShem Had us counted again . So Why Did HaShem Count us at this particular time ? Ramban gives a few reasons . Ramban teaches us that after 210 years of slavery , HaShem Had us counted To Show His Love For each and every one of us At How HaShem Had Increased our numbers from the original 70 members that first entered Egypt in Yaakov's time To this much larger number that it was at the time of that particular count . Also To HaShem , each and every one of us is important and thus we each had an opportunity to come and be counted as a person of individual worth . Also the word " Legion " is used here , so another reason for the counting now at this particular time , was because we had reached the vicinity of Eretz Yisrael ( before the sin of the spies delayed us to wander for 40 years in the Wilderness ) and so , a count had to take place to prepare ourselves first of all for the military campaign ( as the term written here in Torah , of our " Legions " ) that could take place as we entered the Land , for those battles we might have to fight and also for the apportioning of The Land of Israel among and to each Tribe of Israel and their families , for this time was before the Spies had brought back a bad report and so we were at that time , still about to enter The Land , before we were punished for the incident of the Spies which as I just mentioned , had us wander in the " Bamidbar " - " Wilderness , " for forty years . HaShem Loves each and every one of us And Holds each and every one of us precious and so just as we would count and take note of every precious item we have , So Did HaShem Have us counted , for we are each Special and Precious To HaShem . Moshe also invited the Elders too , out of respect for them when he did the counting , which he did As Soon As HaShem Asked him to do it , which showed Moshe's great love For HaShem and Moshe's eagerness to Fulfil HaShem's Word Straight Away , just as Avraham Avinu did , When HaShem Called Avraham for the Akeidah and Avraham awoke early in the morning and saddled his donkey and readied himself to do HaShem's Bidding , no matter how hard it was for him at the time . Our Fore-fathers and Holy men of The Torah and Chumash were always ready To Obey HaShem , with alacrity , Whenever HaShem Asked . How often did Avraham , When HaShem Called , answer immediately " Hineini , " - " Here I am , " HaShem , Ready To Do Whatever You Ask , As Soon As You Ask It . May we all learn to be the same and always jump up with alacrity , To Do HaShem's Bidding with love . Each person that was counted , was counted via a half shekel coin . Jews are not to be counted directly . HaShem Values the life of each and every Jew and so , each and every Jew has a purpose in Creation , as does every human being That HaShem Creates With His Love . Each person is special and unique in their own way And Needs To Fulfil HaShem's Will . We are not just Physical beings but we have a Spiritual Nefesh and Neshoma within . The Physicality that is our clothing in this Physical World , is prone to temptation since the sin of Adam ve Chava and so was the negativity after that incident , brought into this World . That negativity as a force , seeks to count us for Judgement which is a totally fair action , for even that negative force , whether we call it Yetzer Horah or its Malach Samael or Satan , still works For HaShem in ensuring that we get tempted , so as to test our Love For HaShem . If we Love HaShem enough , we will overcome the tests and temptations put on us . These forces seek to have us judged for the wrongs that we do . That is one of their tasks . We need to be tested so as to better ourselves And Show HaShem greater love than what we might do if we just went along fulfilling our own desires . Seeing as these forces have special abilities to seek where we need Judgement , our very actions stand out to HaShem and these forces And So Out Of HaShem's Mercy For us so that we and our negative actions do not stand out to negative entities , For HaShem Who Knows of our negative actions Tries To Show us Mercy , because of this Mercy From HaShem , we do not count our Jewish people directly , but rather use an object of counting instead , like a coin or words of a particular Psalm which we use when counting for a Minyan . So HaShem Instructed That the count be made with a half shekel coin per person . We note That When HaShem Asked That a " Census " be taken , HaShem Said In The Torah , " S'u Es Rosh Kol Adas B'nei Yisrael , " - " Take a census of the entire assembly of the Children of Israel . " The word for ' Census ' in Hebrew , is ' Mifkad ' ( Compact up to date English Hebrew Hebrew English Dictionary - Shimon Zilberman ) , yet Here In The Torah , HaShem Uses the word " S'u , " which means ' to lift up , " which gives us a deeper meaning Of HaShem's Intention Here . HaShem Was Thus Saying , ' lift up in holiness " Es Rosh " each one's head - each one's Physicality , to higher Spiritual and Holy Heights and Ways . Thus when we get counted , HaShem Shows That He Acknowledges us and our purpose in Creation , that is a Holy one and that we are being called to attention to work up toward Him and improve ourselves in Holiness , lifting ourselves higher with each Mitzvah that we do . The words " Lift up the head , " can also have an opposite connotation where our head is actually lifted off from us as if being beheaded , which shows that by keeping HaShem's Mitzvos , we grow higher Spiritually but if we do not , the result is like our head being lifted off , which spells death . Our very lives are in the hands of the very actions that we do . If we keep The Holy Torah , then we will go on the path of and towards life , but if we stray and do not keep The Holy Torah Laws , Chas Ve Shalom , we go away from life towards death , destroying our very selves and our purpose in Creation for our purpose in Creation is to Serve HaShem and Work also for the common good and not just for ourselves . Just like a Shofet , a Judge when Judging must always think that and imagine that there is a sword above his head so that he must judge correctly , so must we think the same . Our very lives are in the hands of our own actions and Obedience To HaShem And HaShem's Laws For our good . We must always account ourselves among those who Keep The Torah Of HaShem's Laws . The Sedra continues with the count of each Tribe and the total . HaShem Then Instructs on the Placements and Formations of all the Tribes , as we rest and travel . Three Tribes were put in all four directions around the Camp , three per a direction and within them were the Levites and then Moshe and Aharon and in the Centre of our Camp , Was The Very Holy Ark Of The Covenant And Within It , The Shechinah Of HaShem . This shows how we Jews at all times are to be a Nation Unto HaShem And To Always Keep HaShem Within our midst . HaShem Makes All of Creation . HaShem's Love Is Within Everything that is . We are Physically to Always Be Surrounded By Holiness And So , Keep HaShem Always Within us And Always Within our midst . The way we set ourselves up in the Tribal Formations when we were in the " Bamidbar , " - " Wilderness , " was exactly how we had our formation when we were in our Tribes at the time of going to Canaan , to bury our holy Fore - Father Yaakov , in Yosef's time . So did we keep the same Formation . Our Formations also were , as we were traveling in the " Bamidbar " - " Wilderness , " exactly how the Malachim Angels have their Formations Up Above , Around HaShem And HaShem's Throne of Glory . We were each to encamp and travel within our Tribe , by our Banners and Insignias of our Father's Household . These Banners for each Tribe were of the same colour for each Tribe as the colour of the Stone that represented that Tribe on the Kohein Gadol's Breast-Plate . The Insignias and Banners had a picture of something that had a representation for each Tribe , like Yehudah's Tribe was the Lion . Three Tribes each were grouped together in each of the four directions . And each of the four groups had their own banner that represented the four creatures that were in Yechezkiel's Holy Revelation further on in The Tanach . To the East and the first set of the three Tribes to travel , was the Group of Yehudah , which included the Tribes of Yehudah , Issachar and Zevulun . The East is the direction from which Spiritual Holy Light Comes to the World and so Yehudah and his group of Issachar the Torah Scholars and Zevulun who supports him , were put together . To the South was the group of Reuvein which included the Tribes of Reuvein , Simeon and Gad . From the South Comes Spiritual Blessings of Rain and Dew , representing Repentance and Mercy From HaShem and so Reuvein ( Yaakov's son ) who was a repentant man who acknowledged his mistake , was deserving to be in this direction . Holiness and Growing comes from seeing our mistakes and working ever so hard to correct them and becoming holier . With him was put the powerful Tribal men of Gad and with them was the Tribe of Simeon , where both Reuvein and Gad would keep him in check . To the West , Is The Place Of HaShem's Shechinah and it is also the place where harsh elements of snow and hail come and so the set of three Tribes in this direction would have the Holiness to withstand it . In this group of Three Tribes under the banner of Ephraim , was the Tribe of Ephraim from which Yehoshuah Joshua came , the Tribe of Manasseh , both sons of Yosef and also the Tribe of Binyamin , in whose portion in Israel The Holy Temple Would Stand . To the North from which hidden and dark forces come , was the group of Dan in which the Tribe of Dan was , where later on in years from this Tribe , king Yeravam came , who set up an idol ) . The Tribe of Dan was strong , where Moshe had called this Tribe a Lion ( Kli Yakar ) so we would thus have a Lion's strength in the forefront of our minds with the Tribe of Yehudah and near our rear , with the Tribe of Dan , so was this group a strong protector from near the rear of the Camp and from where the dark forces come . Also with this group , was the Tribe of Asher who brought Holiness and Light in their Olive Oil that would Illuminate The Menorah , thus dispelling the darkness and also in this group was the Tribe of Naftali , known for its Torah Scholars . HaShem Instructs Moshe to then count the Levites separately , Aharon being the Leader of the Tribe of Levi . We note That When HaShem Talks Of Aharon's children here , they are referred to as the children of Moshe and Aharon . This teaches us that as Moshe taught Aharon's children Torah Straight From The Almighty , so did they become like his children too and so our Sages say that one is a parent to a child not only by conceiving them but also through teaching them Torah . Due to the sin of the Firstborn at the Chait Ha Eigel , The Levites replaced the Firstborn and were counted instead for the work of the Avodah . The Levites were counted , but unlike the rest of the Tribes who were counted from the age of twenty , the Levites were counted from the age of one month of age and up , for their Holiness And Avodah had to start at an earlier age to grow into holy men for the service that they were to perform . The Firstborn were also counted and there was a difference in numbers between the Levites and Firstborn totals , for the Firstborn outnumbered the Levites by 273 . In adding up the number of Levites , the total actually came to 22 300 , so why does The Torah mention that the total was 22 000 Levites as apposed to the 22 273 firstborn that had to be redeemed with Levites ? The reason that The Torah does not mention the other 300 extra Levites , is because these 300 Levites were themselves firstborns , as our Rabbis have said in Talmud Gemorrah Tractate Bechoros 5a and Bamidbar Rabbah 3 : 14 , and so they as Levites had to redeem their own firstborn status . So the total Levites that were to redeem the firstborns of Israel , numbered 22 000 and thus was the number of firstborns in excess of Levites who were not firstborns themselves , 273 . HaShem Instructed That every Levite and Firstborn was to stand before Moshe , who said out loud that this Levite redeemed this firstborn . Another opinion is that a lot was cast . The 273 in excess of Firstborns , were redeemed with five shekels each , the amount in Torah to redeem a Firstborn . It is interesting that if we take the number 273 and put it to it's Gematrical letters in the Hebrew Alphabet , we get the word ' Gara ' ( with the Hebrew letters , Gimmel ( 3 ) , Reish ( 200 ) and Ayin ( 70 ) ) which means ' lack or deficit or less ' ( Silberman's Dictionary ) and this number of 273 was exactly the amount of Levites that were less than the Firstborn amount . The number of Levites in total was much less than the total of any other Tribe . The reason for this is that in Egypt , the Levites did not do slave labour , which the Egyptians had put on the other Tribes in order to try and decrease their numbers And So HaShem Blessed the other Tribes to Grow , to counteract the attempts of Egypt to try to diminish us , Chas Ve Shalom . The Tribe of Levi thus did not receive this Blessing there as the Egyptians had made no attempt to put them to work and so their numbers were not diminished by the evil attempts of Pharaoh to diminish them and so did they not need that same Blessing to counteract Egypt's attempt to diminish them . This alone proves HaShem's Miracle Of Increasing our numbers by vast amounts , for it would have been the norm that our numbers in the Tribes might have been around the amount of the Levite Total Had HaShem Not Done This Miracle for us and Increase our Tribes total , Which Is Exactly What HaShem Did , for the Tribe totals were much larger , Proving That HaShem Counteracted Egypt's attempt to diminish us By Miraculously Increasing our Tribal numbers . The Torah then continues with the divisions of work given to the Levites , who were divided into the three sons of Levi , thus the three groups of Levites being Gershon , Kohath and Merari . The Kohathites were in the South and they were to carry The Ark and all Its Holy Vessels . The Gershonites were in the West and they were to carry the Tabernacle and the Tent and the Merarites were in the North and they were to carry the implements of holy things ( Ramban ) . In this Parsha , It starts telling us of the work of Kohath whose task it was , when we were to journey , to come and cover The Holy Vessels . The Ark of the Covenant , when covered by Aharon and his sons , was not to be looked at , out of respect for the Shechinah . When these vessels were carried , it would be the sons of Kohath who would carry them , as I mentioned . Aharon's son Elazar , was to carry the Oil of Illumination , the Incense Spices , the Meal - Offering and the Anointment Oil which he , With HaShem's Help , carried them Miraculously all at once . Moshe also had charge of the whole Tabernacle and all that was in it , The Sanctuary And Its Utensils . The Ark when carried , Carried Itself and those holding It , For It travelled In The Air , Above the ground . In fact the ones who held It's poles , had to face It all the time and not turn their backs to It , thus the ones in the forward direction , actually walked forward , backwards facing a backwards direction . Even when the Ark came into Canaan , the Levites that carried It , were carried across in mid air , when those that carried It , had to go over the Jordan river , after it too had split for us , so our people could go over into Canaan . The Ark Carries Itself . It is not us who carry The Torah , but The Torah , through time , Carries us Jews . Moshe also appointed Levites as Ma'amados , to guard The Sanctuary Ark . Moshe appointed 8 groups to keep changing . King David later on , in King David's time , did this too , appointing 24 Ma'amados . The Sedra ends With HaShem Reminding that those assigned , when they approach The Holy of Holies , shall not come and look at The Holy , as it is inserted , lest they die . So ends the Parsha . The Parsha of " Bamidbar " - " Wilderness " as I mentioned , starts out The Book of Bamidbar called Numbers , with references for countings and numbering , which start out the Book and are a part of the first few Chapters of this Holy Fourth Book of The Holy Torah . Yet " Bamidbar " refers to and means " Wilderness , " the place we Jews spent forty years traveling through , on our way to Canaan . The reference is made to the " Bamidbar Sinai " - " Wilderness of Sinai , " which shows a reference to Sinai , the humble Mountain On Which HaShem Gave us The Holy Torah And The Ten Commandments , At The Revelation Of HaShem on the date of Shavuos which comes this week And it Was On Shavuot When HaShem Came Down To us On This Very Mountain Of Har Sinai , where we Jews received The Ten Commandments . The reason That HaShem Chose this particular Mountain , was that it was the most humble of mountains for when the Spiritual essence of the other mountains heard That HaShem Was Going To Come Down On a Mountain , as the Psalm says , ' they skipped like lambs ' which means that they put themselves forward to be chosen as the place Of HaShem's Revelation , but Mount Sinai remained quiet and humble , feeling unworthy and totally undeserving to be the Mountain On Which HaShem Would Come Down Upon . Another reason why this mountain was Chosen By HaShem was that on all the other Mountains , the other nations had performed Avodah Zorah Idol Worship on them , but Mount Sinai remained pure and on it , no acts of idol worship were ever performed on its peak . So HaShem Chose this Humble Mountain as the Place Of His Revelation . The same is with a " Bamidbar " - " Wilderness , " for it is an ownerless place that no other nation has claimed for itself and thus remains totally humble and ownerless , which is clearly seen As HaShem's Possession , unclaimed by other humans , even though all Is Owned By HaShem . This is how we can gain in Torah Knowledge and Learning and Wisdom , by being humble and open to learning , with no preconceived ideas of and from strange ways , but being totally ' ownerless ' - totally ' humble ' - Totally Open To Torah Ways And Following Torah Ways Only . It is in such a surroundings , Where Torah Can truly Speak to us , It's Everlasting Truth From HaShem . Dovid ha Melech knew this , for at times in his life , he would go into the desert alone and spend days and nights alone With HaShem , David spending time away from other people , humbling himself and opening himself up in total humility To HaShem And HaShem's Wisdom . Such is what is a " Bamidbar " - " Wilderness . " In fact , within the word " Bamidbar , " are the words ' Ba Me Daber , ' - ' Come and I Will Speak ' to you . It is when we make ourselves totally humble , then can we open ourselves up totally To Hearing HaShem Speaking To us . The very fact that Torah Was Given By HaShem In a Wilderness that is ownerless , shows that Torah is not just owned by a select few . Torah is open to all who want to come and learn , HaShem Awaits us all as His Creation , To Come Close To Him Through Humble Torah Learning . It is then that we can truly have our ' heads lifted and raised ' To Holiness and be ' counted , ' As HaShem's Special Ones . It is then , that we can be whom HaShem Wants us to be , humble always , In The Legion Of HaShem Ha Kadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . As I mentioned , a few days after Shabbos this year we then go into Shavuot on the Sixth of Sivan , When HaShem Who Had Waited Since Creation , Came Down On Har Sinai And Gave us His Holy Torah . Every Jew then and before since Avraham and even those that are Jews today and those Jews still to come in the future , were all Brought To Har Sinai , To Accept HaShem's Holy Covenant Of Torah . HaShem Lifted Humble Har Sinai Above all our heads And Showed us How HaShem's Torah , That HaShem Had Written 2000 years before Creation , Is our very life and our length of days . So many times In Torah Does HaShem Remind us of this fact . Even Righteous Gairim that were still to come , their souls were brought to this Holy Revelation . We all accepted upon ourselves forever , HaShem's Holy Covenant Of The Holy Torah , ( unlike the other nations who rejected It , wanting to know first what was in It ) but we Jews accepted It without first asking what is in It with the words , " Na'aseh Ve Nishmah , " - " We will do and we will listen and hear . " We were the only ones who never asked what is in It . We accepted it without question , every single Jew , past , present and future , you , me and every Jew then and now and still to come . It was on this Covenant That we Jews Would Be Given Eretz Yisroel , HaShem's Land . It was on this Covenant that we Jews agreed to and made With HaShem , That HaShem Would Watch Over us and our Holy Land , A Land that is To Be Kept Holy , Pure And Torah Following . Our Holy Torah Unites us and Keeps us Safe By HaShem , As long as we keep what we all agreed to keep . We might not remember our Covenant , but our acceptance is clearly written in our Holy Torah , That HaShem Gave To us Jews . We may not have been brought up knowing It , But HaShem , Who Still Watches Over us , Has Given us , every day , His Holy Torah To Learn . HaShem Gives us 24 hours in a day and we can so easily choose to take some of that time away from ourselves And Return To HaShem And Study And Learn HaShem's Holy Torah And Follow HaShem Wholeheartedly . We are so special To HaShem . Let us Make HaShem Special To us too . Let us put more attention and caring into our children's education , Of HaShem's Holy Torah . So many Parents will spend much on a secular Non-Jewish Education , but will not see how important it is that we continue to shine through the generations , as Holy Torah Observant Jews , Special To HaShem . Let our Jewish children never forget who they are . With every Torah Law that our children are not taught to keep and follow , they get further and further away from being Jewish , Chas Ve Shalom , and this is how we lose our people , Chas Ve Shalom . It is so important for Jewish parents to ensure that each and every generation of our Jewish people , Remain Holy Jews To HaShem , never ever losing a single Jew . Our enemies know who we are , so let us Never Forget it ourselves and let us fight them With The Only Sure Way That HaShem Tells us that we can overcome them , And That Is By Following And Keeping HaShem's Holy Torah , The Very Holy Torah That our enemies have tried to stop us learning and burn through the centuries . Deep down they know spiritually , if not physically , that us all being Torah Observant Jews , would be our enemy's final end . It was on Shavuot that Dovid Ha Melech passed away , so we read the Book of Ruth . It was also at this time that the Holy Ba'al Shem Tov passed away . In King David's time , King David kept Torah strictly and made Israel , HaShem's Torah Keeping Land And HaShem Blessed David . Israel at that time was a strength to be reckoned with and was Holy and Great . We certainly need HaShem's Help right now with what is going on . May HaShem Keep our Land of Israel Safe and our people there safe and the soldiers and all those that are now putting their lives on the line to protect our homeland of Israel . May HaShem Bless them and every Jew With Protection and Safety . We Certainly Need To Return To The Holy Israel of King David , With HaShem So Close To us . We certainly need to make every effort , each one of us , to return To HaShem And HaShem's Holy Torah , Keeping HaShem's Holy Shabbos And All That HaShem Commands , For It Is our Very Life And The Length Of our Days . So on this Holy Shabbos And Holy Shavuot , From this Shavuot onwards , let us all , as Jews , renew our Covenant With HaShem And Keep our Word To HaShem , and let us from now on Return To Being The Holy People Of HaShem That we once were . Let us on this Holy Shabbos And Holy Shavuot and from this day forward , return to Har Sinai and stand again Before HaShem In Obedience And Love And Call Out as we did , " Na'aseh Ve Nishma , " - " We will Do and we will Hear and Listen . May we all Renew our Closeness In Love With HaShem Ha Kadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . May HaShem Send my beloved Ima Chava Rivka bas Sarah a"h Abundant Brochas And Bless my beloved Ima Chava Rivka bas Sarah a"h With Peace , Tranquillity And Everlasting Happiness In Gan Eiden And Shamayim Close To HaShem . The Parsha Sedra this Shabbos is a Double Parsha of Parashas Behar and Parashas Bechukosai taking us to the end of The Book of Vayikra Leviticus In The Holy Torah Of HaShem . The Haftorah is Yirmeyahu Jeremiah 16 : 19 - 17 : 14 . Both the Torah Portion and the Haftorah speak of Admonitions and consequences for not keeping HaShem's Torah Laws . May we Jews always Keep HaShem's Holy Torah Laws For Eternity For HaShem's Sake And For ours . Parashas Behar begins teaching us of the Shemittah year , the Sabbatical Seventh Year , when we are in the Land of Israel , that we are to let our Land lie fallow and not sow our field or prune our vineyard . Just As HaShem Commanded At The Beginning Of Creation , that we are to Keep The Sabbath , the Seventh Day and do no manner of Work at all , so are we to do the same with our Fields and Vineyards . The number Seven in Judaism is a holy number . There are Seven days to the week within Creation and Seven Years in the Shemittah Year . There are Seven words in the first verse of Bereishis in the Torah . We await Moshiach , whose Gematriah is Seven . HaShem Made Six Days of Creation and the Seventh Day Is Holy To And For HaShem And Is The Holy Shabbos . We have Seven weeks in the Omer that we count toward Holiness , that we are right now in the process of counting , when we received The Ten Commandments after Seven Weeks after coming out of Egypt , where on that very next day after the Seven Weeks , on that Fiftieth Day , like the Fiftieth Year of the Yovel Year , on that Fiftieth Day after Coming from Mitzrayim Egypt , It Is Shavuot , When HaShem Revealed Himself To us On Har Sinai , like this Parsha is called " Behar . " There are Seven Days , where a male boy born has to have gone through a Shabbos , where on the next day after the Seventh Day , on that Eighth Day , he is given a Bris . We Jewish males , wind the Tefillin around the arm Seven times . Though there are Five Books in the Torah , we are told that there is a separation in a certain verse place of The Holy Torah , which would make it Spiritually Seven Books . This verse is in Bamidbar Numbers 10 : 35 - 36 , that we recite when returning HaShem's Holy Torah to the Ark . There are Seven Heavens and Seven Main Levels to Shamayim with umpteen levels of Seven in between , as the Spiritual Firmament . Moshe was the Seventh generation from and including Avraham , for the Seven Generations from Avraham , were Avraham , Yitzchak , Yaakov , Levi , Kohath , Amram and Moshe . And there are many other examples of the Holiness of the Number Seven , like Shabbos being the Seventh Day of Creation and the Seventh Day of the week . When it comes to The Shabbos and The Shemittah Year , we are to put Total Trust and have Total Faith In HaShem , that when we do not work our Fields for the whole year , HaShem Will Still Bless us And Provide For us . Just the same as we are not to go to work on Shabbos , In Full Faith In HaShem , That HaShem Will Bless us . To Keep The Shabbos , Shows Complete Faith In HaShem's Creation . Creation took place in six days and so , to Keep Shabbos That HaShem Created , Shows our Faith And Belief That HaShem Created the other Six Days and all That HaShem Created In them . The Shemittah Year , For The Land of Israel , is the same kind of show of Faith , That HaShem Creates all things And In HaShem Only , is our Parnossa and all that we need for living . No matter how hard we work , what we get , Is From HaShem Only And we must always remember that . We may have a boss paying us or we may think our own efforts got us what we earn , But If HaShem Did Not Want us to have it , we would not have it no matter how hard we worked for it , so let us Always Thank HaShem For what we earn and For what we get . The very fact that we stop our every day occupation and give This Holy Of Days Of Shabbos For HaShem And To Spend Quality Time With HaShem , putting our own Physical wants aside , shows that we Acknowledge That Creation Is HaShem's Creation and that all that is , Belongs To HaShem . The same is with The Shemittah Year , where we work our Fields for Six Years and in the Seventh Year , we stop and Acknowledge HaShem's True And Rightful Ownership Of the Field . The very fact of not working the Field in The Sabbatical Year , shows that we know the Fields and everything in Creation is not ours at all and that all things in Creation , Are On Loan From HaShem . During this Sabbatical Year , we are to open up our Fields for our neighbours and the poor of the Land . What A Beautiful Kind Law Of HaShem . How Giving And Kind And Eternally Patient With us Is Merciful HaShem . Thus , in this Sabbatical Year , we make and state that the Land is ' Ownerless . ' The Land Always and Forever , Belongs Always To HaShem . We are then to count Seven Cycles of Sabbatical Years , making Forty Nine Years and then in the Seventh Month , on the Tenth of the Month , Yom Kippur , we are to sound a broken blast of the Shofar , throughout the Land and Sanctify the Fiftieth Year , proclaiming Freedom throughout the Land for all it's inhabitants and those who are serving as servants under the circumstances That And As The Torah Explains , such is the Yovel Jubilee Year , where each man , you shall return , to his ancestral heritage and each man you shall return , to his family . The Jubilee Year is the year that all slaves go free . On it , just like The Shemittah Year , you shall not sow or harvest . Thus , in the Jubilee Year , the Land will have stayed fallow , for two years long , The Jubilee Year and The Shemittah Year just before it . HaShem's Torah Also Teaches That In The Jubilee Year , Land is returned to its original owner . Torah Goes Through the different Laws of how Land is Redeemed , depending on whether it was in a Walled or Un-Walled City , in the Land of Israel , in the time of Yehoshuah's Conquest of the Land . HaShem's Torah Also Discusses the Levite Cities And Then Talks Of the Poor , that we are to take care of the Poor . The Laws of the Jewish Slave are discussed and how we must redeem our impoverished brothers as soon as possible . The Parsha of Behar ends With HaShem Reminding us that we are His Servants , whom HaShem Took Out Of the Land of Mitzrayim Egypt and thus , we are not to remain servants to human masters , for we are only Under HaShem . This is also a deep Law , reminding us never to make any human into a False Deity , putting them above us , For Only HaShem Is G-D - Numbers 23:19 and Hosea 11:9 and Hosea 13:4 . The Parsha ends with reminding us not to make idols or statues or pillars in Eretz Yisrael for idol worship , or a flooring stone as the pagans and idol worshipers do , upon which to prostrate oneself for prayer to idols , Chas Ve Shalom , For Only HaShem Is HaShem our G-D And That we Are To Observe HaShem's Shabbos And HaShem's Sanctuary , For HaShem Is HaShem , The Only True G-D And Creator Of Creation . Parashas Bechukosai Starts out by Saying " Im Bechukosai Teileichu , " - " If you follow My Decrees . " One has to ask , Why HaShem Says " If , " with regards to Obeying Him . The answer is very straightforward , for we know That HaShem Wants us to Keep His Commandments . But unlike the Malachim - Angels , HaShem Gives us the opportunity to grow . This can only take place if we have ' Free Choice . ' For we can gain Holiness if we genuinely choose to be Holy . A robot can only do what it is programmed to do . It thus cannot better itself , but always remains on the level it was when it was made . But us , as human beings , can choose to be Holy And Climb Towards HaShem In Holiness And So , HaShem Has Given us each the opportunity to grow Into Holiness And Continue Growing In Holiness . Thus Does HaShem Give us the choice That " Im Bechukosai Teileichu , " - " That " if " we choose To Grow In Holiness , Then The Only Pathway To HaShem Is Through HaShem's Laws , Commandments And Decrees . So our very Gift of Being Given this opportunity to grow , is actually our opportunity to show how much we Love HaShem , over and more and greater than ourselves . For this action , we Will Be Blessed With Many Brochas That HaShem Will Shower Upon us . Even though our following HaShem's Laws , will bring us Brochas , the very Following Of HaShem , Is for our own benefit . How Selfless Is our Beautiful And Beloved HaShem . Of course , should we disobey and not follow HaShem And HaShem's Laws , Chas Ve Shalom , then upon us , will come the Tochachah , the Admonitions , mentioned in This Parsha . The choice Is Given To us By HaShem . HaShem Wants us to Live And Only By HaShem's Commandments Can we Live . The very act of us going astray , Chas Ve Shalom , will set us up for the path and road to negativity if we have wrongly chosen it , which brings its own pitfalls and problems and then only we are to blame for the wrong choices we made . Again the choice is ours so let us Always Make The Right Choices And Stay On The Safe And Holy Path That HaShem Has Given us . HaShem's Holy Torah Is our Lighthouse To Come Home To Shore . To travel safely through this physical World and come back Home To HaShem And So , Grow Toward Holiness And Come Ever Closer To HaShem . HaShem Is Very Clear In This Sedra About What Will Happen If we Disobey and when we read through these Tochachah , we note How True Is The Holy Torah Of HaShem , for some of these Tochachah - Admonitions have taken place when we have disobeyed . This is our own fault for going off The Holy Path Of HaShem's Torah . HaShem Then Discusses Gifts To The Holy Temple And Valuations as we grow in age And Vows , the Sanctifying of and Redemption of Animals , Houses and Fields , Segregated Property and Tithes and HaShem Ends This Parsha Of " Bechukosai " And The Book Of Vayikra Leviticus Torath Kohanim With Saying , " Eileh Ha Mitzvos Asher Tzivah HaShem Es Moshe el B'nei Yisrael Behar Sinai " - " These are the Commandments That HaShem Commanded Moshe to the Children of Israel on Mount Sinai , " so we thus come back to the first Parsha of this Shabbos Double Parsha Sedra , " Behar " Sinai . We note that The Laws Of The Shemittah - Sabbatical And Yovel - Jubilee Years are preceded by the words at the beginning of The Parsha Of " Behar " with the words , " Behar Sinai . " Even though This Parsha is put long after HaShem's Revelation On Har Sinai , yet This Parsha is introduced with The Fact That These Words Are Those Spoken By HaShem To Moshe " Behar Sinai , " - " On Har Sinai . " The reason for this Is That HaShem Is Telling us That HaShem Gave These Instructions On Har Sinai . Not just that , But Also That HaShem Gave Moshe All The Laws On Har Sinai And Throughout the travels of the Children Of Israel through the Wilderness , HaShem Taught Moshe And Also Expanded On The Laws Given On Har Sinai . All Laws Were Given To Moshe On Mount Sinai . All Laws That Are In HaShem's Holy Torah And That Were Ever Given To our Nevi'im , our Prophets , that we have in The Holy Tanach and their explanations and full details through time and our Oral Understanding For Each Law , to its minutest detail , that appears in our Beautiful Gemorrahs And Mishnayos , All This Was Given By HaShem , To Moshe And our People On Har Sinai And Forever After , By HaShem , With HaShem's Beautiful Love And Care , To Help us Grow Higher In Holiness Towards HaShem Ha Kadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . Every time that we Follow A Holy Law Of HaShem And All It's Details , let us remember That These Details Have Come To us Originally From HaShem On Har Mount Sinai . HaShem Spoke To Moshe And Also To us On Har Sinai And HaShem's Voice , That nothing can stop , Is Still Carrying Through The Generations Of Centuries And Still Speaks To us Today . HaShem , Even Then , Knew what Questions each of us might ask thousands of years later And HaShem Gave us Answers to them Even Then . HaShem Still Does Answer us Now And Also HaShem Answered us Then , For Now . How Vast And Almighty Is HaShem . Spiritually , we can still touch The Time That each and every one of us Jews were at Har Sinai . For every Jew , past , present and future still to come , stood at Har Sinai , as well as the Gairim too . We are all connected to Har Sinai And HaShem's Voice Carries Through To us , Through The Centuries . I have mentioned this before , That HaShem's Voice Has No Echo . For sound to have an echo , that sound wave must be able to be stopped by a harder more solid surface , But In The Case Of HaShem And HaShem's Voice , It Is So Powerful And Penetrating And Almighty , that nothing anywhere in the Whole Universe is Strong Enough to halt HaShem's Voice And So HaShem's Voice Can Never Have an Echo . HaShem's Voice Carries On Through Time And Even If HaShem Says Something thousands of years ago , That Word Of Whatever It Is That HaShem Said Then , Is Thus Never Ending , Carrying On Through Time And Space Forever Eternally . Though Har Sinai was long ago , HaShem's Voice From Then , Still Reaches us now , Through Many Ways , Even In An Answer That we feel we Get when learning HaShem's Holy Torah . And So Do HaShem's Laws . Nothing Can Contain HaShem's Voice , For HaShem's Voice Is All Powerful And Never Ending . HaShem Wants us all to live A Holy Torah Life . The Very Keeping Of HaShem's Holy Torah Is HaShem's Pathway Means To Life And Life Eternal . It Is our Existence . It Is The True Total Purpose Of Creation , Making all Physicality Holy And A Home For HaShem To Dwell With us . Though HaShem Leaves the choice up to us , To Keep HaShem's Laws , This Choice , if we choose Wisely and Correctly , Will Bring us , From HaShem , Untold Brochas And Is True Life And Living . To disobey , Chas Ve Shalom , which is akin to not Living , Chas Ve Shalom , for it goes against The Very Pathway To True Life Of HaShem's Holy Torah And Creation , brings with it the opposite , which is , ' Not Living , ' and so is a path to Negativity and Curse . HaShem Wants us To Choose Life . HaShem Wants us To Choose To Better ourselves , but the choice is ours . Torah Is HaShem's Holy Gift That HaShem Gave At HaShem's Revelation On Har Sinai . In Each And Every Word Of The Holy Torah Of HaShem , Is HaShem's Revelation And Light . Har Sinai , HaShem's Revelation , Carries Through , In Every Mitzvah Of HaShem's That we Are To Keep And That we Keep . In Every Word In HaShem's Holy Torah That HaShem Writes . In Every Commandment From HaShem , That we Do . Har Sinai Is Always With us , As Long As we Choose To Obey HaShem And HaShem's Holy Torah . HaShem's Torah Is Life . HaShem's Gift Of HaShem's Holy Torah , Is HaShem's Pathway For us To The Light , To True Life , To HaShem , Who Awaits our very Love , That we all , deep down Want To Show HaShem . So Let us all , Always Choose , To Ever Keep Climbing Higher And Higher " Behar , " - " The Mountain , " Working Ever Closer And Closer To HaShem And HaShem's Holy Light . The Shabbos Parsha Sedra is Parashas Emor . This Parasha starts with Laws to the Kohanim to ensure that they always keep themselves Holy and Pure . The Kohanim are also appointed to help keep K'lal Yisrael Holy and Pure . The task of the Kohanim is to help ensure the Purity of our nation , by their Korbanos Offerings that are done by them on our behalf , thus helping us to achieve A Much Closer Relationship With HaShem . The very word " Korban " has the root ' Karov ' within it , which means ' To come close . ' The Haftorah for this Parsha is in Yechezkiel Ezekiel 44 : 15 - 31 , which also mentions the Laws of Purity of the Kohanim . HaShem Commands us Jews To Emulate HaShem's Ways And To Be A Pure And Holy Nation , Following HaShem's Commandments And Keeping ourselves separate from all that is impure and unholy and against What HaShem Commands Of us . As HaShem Is Totally Holy , so must we Jews Be Holy and Pure Always . The Kohanim , who do the Korbanos , which bring us Jews Closer To HaShem And Help us Make Right With HaShem , are to be Holy and Pure themselves . Thus the Kohanim , who help to Purify the Jewish Nation , must therefore ensure that they must first and fore-most look to themselves so as to be very Clean and Pure themselves . One cannot clean a stain with a cloth that is already dirty so the Kohanim themselves who help to clean the nation , must themselves first be Clean and Holy and Pure and fully Torah Observant . The Kohanim may not contaminate themselves for one who has passed on , except for a close relative . They may not make a bald spot on their heads nor may they shave the edge of their beard or cut a gash in their flesh , For they Shall Be Holy To HaShem and not desecrate HaShem's Holy Name , Chas Ve Shalom . They may not marry a woman who is a Zonah , a harlot , or a woman who has been desecrated , or a woman who is a Gerushah , a Divorcee and the Kohein Gadol is not allowed to marry a widow , where an ordinary Kohein can . The Laws for the Kohein Gadol are much stricter than for an ordinary Kohein , for the Kohein Gadol cannot marry an Almanah , a Widow and cannot even contaminate himself , even for his relative's passing . HaShem's Torah Instructs That they may not do the Avodah if they have a " Mum , " ( pronounced as " Moom ) " - " A Blemish , " or if they are blind , lame , or if they lack a nose bridge , or one limb is longer than the other , or if they have a broken leg or arm , or abnormally long eyebrows , or a membrane on their eye or a blemish in their eye , or a dry or moist skin eruption or crushed testes . For those that have these , from the offspring of Aharon Ha Kohein , may not do the fire-offerings Of HaShem . In those days , if a person had a Spiritual problem with their Holiness , it would show up physically in one of these mentioned ways and these things would disqualify them from doing the Avodah . They would also be forbidden to do the Avodah , if they had any of the previously mentioned Contaminations . Torah Goes Into The Laws of Terumah , the one fiftieth of the crop that is the Kohein's Portion . Torah then Speaks of the offerings themselves , that they must be unblemished . The Torah Portion Then Continues With The " Mo'adei HaShem Asher Tik're'u Otam Mik'ra'ei Kodesh , " - " The Appointed Festivals Of HaShem , " that you are to " designate as Holy Convocations , " which refers to our Yomim Tovim that we celebrate and keep throughout the year . They are also called Moadim , for within this word is the word " Eid " which means " Witness , " for when we keep HaShem's Festivals , we stand as witnesses To HaShem's Oneness And Truth . HaShem Set these Festivals at Creation , even though their connections with and reasons for keeping them , took place through our Biblical History . I mention this , as Pesach is celebrated as our Exodus from Egypt and Shavuos is also The Day That we Received From HaShem With Great Awesomeness , HaShem's Holy Torah Ten Commandments On Har Sinai and Succos also has a connection to The Clouds of Glory Of HaShem , That surrounded us in the Wilderness . Rosh HaShanah Is The New Year , The Day On Which HaShem Created Adam Ve Chava and Yom Kippur Is The Day of Atonement . So all these days Were Created already at Creation , yet with our history , They were only Commanded To the Children of Israel , after we left Mitzrayim Egypt . Yet our Fore-Fathers did keep these days Holy before the events which were linked to them even came about or took place . For example , Avraham already made and ate Unleavened Bread in his life-time and was in fact busy preparing it when the Giant Og came to tell him that his nephew Lot had been taken captive by the four kings against five , for the time that this happened , was actually the time of the future Passover . So Avraham had to rescue his nephew during the time that became our Passover in the future . No wonder the Giant Og , was named from then on ' Uga / Og ' which means cakes , to refer to the unleavened cakes that Avraham was busy making when Og came to tell him of Lot's capture . It is from this name that the word ' Ogre ' comes , that in today's times refers to a Giant . This Og had been around a long time and he was one of the progeny of the Nephillim who came from the fallen Angels mixing with humans , in the generation of Noach . Og survived the " Mabul " - the " Flood " due to Noach's kindness , for when Noach was building the Ark , Noach added to the side a little standing platform and a little roof for Og to stand between and Noach fed Og every day through a little trap-door opening . Also linked to Festival days in Biblical History was the incident with the Malachim Angels that came to Sodom , to Lot , for it was Passover then . HaShem Instructs That we are to designate these Holy Festivals , For HaShem Put in our charge , the intercalation of the Jewish Calendar , so that we are to set it up and also say when each New Moon Rosh Chodesh starts and to add in a leap year when necessary , so thus we were to designate the Festivals , called " Holy Convocations , " where the word " Convocations " means " Holy Days of our people gathering as one . " ( Ramban ) We have a Lunar Calendar and a Solar Calendar and when putting the two together , they do not quite coincide with the exact number of days , for the Lunar Month is a bit shorter than the Solar Month and thus , in order to keep HaShem's Commandment of always celebrating the Pesach in the Spring in a Month Chosen By HaShem's Mercy And Compassion , for it is a mild weathered month and so it was easier to be freed on this month to travel , we add every few years an extra leap year month Adar 1 and Adar 2 so that the months of the Lunar Calendar will always be closer in matching the two alongside each other , to the Solar Calendar . The muslims also follow a Lunar Calendar , but do not put in that leap year month every few years as we do , coming seven times in every 19 year cycle - ( Chabad ) , so the dates of their celebratory days tend to jump around from year to year . HaShem Thus Commanded us to be the ones to designate our Holy Convocations And In Commanding us This , Made us as it were , a partner In His Creation And Celebrating the Festivals With us . The very first Festival mentioned here is Passover Pesach . This is mentioned first As HaShem Commanded That this Month of Nissan in which Pesach comes , will be to us the First of the Months . On Pesach we are to eat Unleavened Bread Matzos for the seven day period of the Festival , counting the first and last day/s of the Yom Tov and in Galus we celebrate the two days Yom Tov . Between Pesach and Shavuot we count the Omer for 49 days ( which we are now in the process of doing ) , where on the 50th day we Celebrate the Festival of Shavuot . It was on this Holy Day That HaShem Came Down On Har Sinai . While we were there in Egypt then , Egypt at that time was the lowest Spiritual Place at that time , the most impure and they had reached the 49th level of impurity ( just as there were 49 steps leading up to Pharaoh's throne ) . Seeing that we lived there , we were exposed to this Tum'a Impurity , the same Impurity and Impure sources with which they performed their sorcery and the same impurity that had them committing every single Forbidden act of Immorality That HaShem's Torah Commanded us in the previous Parasha , not to commit . So when we left Egypt , before we were Spiritually On The Level To Meet HaShem , we had to climb these 49 levels Towards Purity and so , between Pesach and Shavuot , we count the 49 Days of the Omer , on which we purify ourselves to Meet HaShem On Shavuot . The seven weeks of seven , take us to Holiness , where we know the number seven is a holy number and seven sets of seven is Holy upon Holy . The Gematriah of Moshiach is Seven . The Sabbath , Which Is Also Mentioned In this Parsha , is on the Seventh Day . The Sabbatical Year is the seventh year and seven Sabbatical years take us to the number forty nine , whereafter comes the Yovel Jubilee ( Fiftieth ) Year . So we count seven sets of seven and on that next day that 50th day , like an 8th after the 7 , is Shavuot , The Day That we Received HaShem's Revelation On Har Sinai Mount Sinai And Were Given By HaShem , The Ten Pronouncements , after purifying ourselves through the 49 day count of the Omer and on that next day , the 50th Day , is Shavuot . So do we celebrate Shavuot , having reached that 50th Day , like the 50th Gate of Purity , for which Moshe Rabbeinu ( who started by having to climb up Pharaoh's 49 steps ( like the 49 levels of impurity of Pharaoh ) to speak to Pharaoh , for Pharaoh's throne ( as I mentioned ) was at the top of 49 steps , on the 50th step , ( representing Pharaoh's 49 / 50 steps of impurity ) , Moshe climbed through all 49 Gates of Purity and Wisdom and went on Spiritually toward that 50th Gate of Holiness , after his passing . Such was the Festival of Shavuot . It was also due to the Omer offering , that we also warranted Being Saved at the time of Purim , for it was the time of Pesach , when this event of haman happened in Shushan and haman had given 10 000 kikar to have us Jews exterminated . It was on the Second Day of Pesach when the decree was turned around on haman's own head , when haman had to parade Mordechai in front of the people . For Mordechai was teaching Torah at that very time ( when haman had come to fetch him to put him on the ride ready for parading ) about the Omer that had to be offered at this very time and so this Omer counteracted the money given by haman . ( Midrash Vayikra - Rabbi M Weissman ) . HaShem Reminds us That when we reap our harvest , we should not remove completely the corners of our fields when we reap and not gather the gleanings of our harvest , but that we must leave them for the poor and the proselyte . HaShem Then Commands About Rosh HaShanah , The First of Tishrei . Rosh HaShanah goes back to the Beginnings of Bereishis , for it was on Rosh HaShanah , as I mentioned before , That HaShem Created Adam Ve Chava , so this is the Day of the World's True New Year . The Shofar that we blow at this time commemorates the Akeidah , where Avraham offered a Ram in place of his beloved son Yitzchak . Rosh HaShanah and The Ten Days of Repentance , brings us to the 10th of Tishrei Yom Kippur , which are days of Atoning , where it was on Yom Kippur that Moshe came down after his third time of 40 days and 40 nights that he was up on Har Sinai , when he finally gained Forgiveness For us From HaShem , after the Chait Ha Eigel , the golden calf incident . So on Yom Kippur we Fast and Atone . Five days after Yom Kippur , we celebrate the Festival of Succos for a seven day period , where we dwell in our Succahs and take the Lulav and Etrog , the Four Species and Rejoice Before HaShem . Yes Rejoicing is a Mitzvah , to be happy and rejoice with Kiddush . The four species that we take on Succos and bind them together , represent the four types among our people that are brought together as one and become one as our people should be one , making up for each other's strengths and weaknesses . The Four Species are the Esrog , the Citron , which tastes and smells nice and represents those of our people who have learning and morals - good actions ; the Lulav branch ( Date-Palm ) , whose fruit has a nice taste but no odour , and represents those who have learning but lack morals - good actions ; the Myrtle , which has a nice odour , but no taste , represents those who have no Torah learning or deficient Torah learning , yet have morals and good actions and deeds ; and the Willow , which has no odour and no taste , represents those who have no Torah learning and no morals and good deeds . So when all are held together , we all become one and help each other . The fact that there are " Four " Species , assists in forgiveness for the Four types of death penalty ( Midrash Vayikra - Rabbi M Weissman ) . All of these species also have a connection to being near a water source , so is the World Blessed With Water at this time . At this time we also have the ancient Festival of the Water Drawing . We dwell in Succos Booths during this Festival and welcome the Ushpizin , the special Guests of our Holy Fore-Fathers and Holy Men from our Torah and Tanach , welcoming them every day we are in The Succah , a new Special and Holy Guest , each day . The Ushpizin are Araham , Yitzchak , Yaakov , Yosef , Moshe , Aharon and Dovid ha Melech . Each Day of Succos , one of these Holy men can come and visit us and see that we are giving to the poor . On the next day after Succos , we celebrate a special Festival called Shemini Atzeres the Eighth Day Feast where we spend an extra day of Holiness With HaShem , showing HaShem , after all these Holy Days , that we still so deeply wish To Be Close To HaShem , Just As HaShem , Wants that extra Day With us In Closeness . These are the Festivals of Israel . HaShem Then Commands About the Menorah and how only The Purest first drop of Olive Oil is to be used for the Menorah , purely hand squeezed one olive per one drop squeezed , for only the first drop , being The Purest un-sedimented drop of an olive per olive can be used as olive oil for the Menorah . Aharon was to light the Menorah from evening to morning as an eternal decree . HaShem Commands on the Showbread 12 loaves for the Shulchan Table , to be changed before every Shabbos and the Showbread from the previous week would still remain fresh . So should our Jewish Kings of David's line always be fresh and pure , for the Table for the Showbreads , is also a representation of the Kings of the line of Judah . The Torah then relates the happening of the ' hamekaleil , ' - ' the blasphemer . ' This man , was actually the son of Dasan's wife Shelomis , when she had been taken in a forceful manner by the egyptian taskmaster who was beating Dasan on that day that Moshe had come to save him . Shelomis was known to lack modesty and liked to be a bit flirtatious with other men and so was her name Shelomis , for she often said Shalom hello to other males . On that day the Egyptian taskmaster had come to Dasan's house to look for Dasan to call him for work . After Dasan had left , the egyptian taskmaster returned and took advantage of Dasan's wife . When he saw Dasan , the egyptian wanted to silence the matter that he had been with her , where he had conceived with her a child , so he beat Dasan and this is where Moshe came on the scene and helped save Dasan's life . Thus this son of hers was fathered by an egyptian . It was this son that is here mentioned in Torah as the blasphemer , who had taken on his father's evil character . He is mentioned here after the Showbread , for it was about the Showbread , that he chose to ridicule Moshe and his teachings , trying to make out that the bread from the previous week could not last the week in freshness . How wrong he was . This person came and put up his tent within the area of the Tribe of Dan ( for he thought that he should , as his Mother was a Danite , even though lineage only goes through the Father , from whom the lineage for the child comes , even though he did not have a Jewish Father , for previously he liked to stay outside the camp near the people who were not allowed into the camp due to impurity . Another Danite questioned his action saying that he was not allowed to be there within the tribe of Dan for his ( this blasphemer's ) father was an egyptian and thus not a member of that Tribe of Dan . He argued and the matter was brought to Moshe's Beth Din . When the blasphemer asked who his father was , he was told that his father was the egyptian that Moshe had killed . The blasphemer asked how Moshe had done this and was told that Moshe had pronounced HaShem's Holy Name and the egyptian had fallen dead . When the blasphemer heard this , he disrespectfully said this Very Holy Name and Blasphemed The Name . When he was taken to Moshe for judgement , Moshe did not want to give judgement himself as Moshe had an involvement in this matter in saving Dasan at the time and so asked HaShem what to do . HaShem Instructed That this blasphemer must be taken outside the Camp and those who heard his blaspheming must be the first to stone him and so was this done . HaShem Then Teaches On punishment of a life for a life and restitution being given for injury caused to another . Here In HaShem's Holy Torah , HaShem Mentions " Ayin Tachas Ayin , " - " An Eye for an Eye . " This does not mean that if someone takes out a person's eye that so must be done to them . Not at all . The word " Tachat , " literally means " Under " so it says " An Eye under an Eye , " which means that not the eye is taken out of the perpetrator for that eye that they caused to come out of someone else . But a lesser restitution is calculated via money restitution and this is the same with other injuries mentioned . We also know that money is being referred to as the judgement , because the Gematriah of the word " Tachat , " is 400 + 8 + 400 = 808 and 8 + 0 + 8 = 16 and 1 + 6 = 7 , which is the same as the Gematriah of the word " Kesef " - " Money , " which is 20 + 60 + 80 = 160 and 1 + 6 + 0 = 7 . So both ' Kesef ' and " Tachat , " both have the same value number in Gematriah . The Parsha ends with the death of the Blasphemer . HaShem Tells us , " There shall be one Law for you , it shall be for the proselyte and the native alike , For I , HaShem , Am your G-d . " So ends The Parsha . This Parsha is called " Emor " - " Say . " HaShem Could Have Used any form of the Word " Amar / Omer " as the word for " Say . " So Why Did HaShem Use the form of the word as " Emor . " If we look at the Gematriah of the word " Emor , " it comes to the same as Mashiach . " Emor " is 1 + 40 + 200 = 241 and 2 + 4 + 1 = 7 , just as the word " Mashiach " is 7 in Gematriah . So this Command to be Pure , is to continue till Moshiach's time , just as Moshiach and the Days of Moshiach are Pure and the Days of Olam HaBah - The World To Come , will be Pure , just like the Kohanim are instructed to be Pure , in this Parsha . A direct word " Emor " is given here , which is the Commanding Form of the word , as ' A Command ' is used here , As HaShem Gives the Kohanim a direct Command to command us to be Holy and Pure and Obedient To G-D . This is why , in this first verse of the Parsha , the word " Emor " is repeated in the word " Ve'Amarta , " for HaShem Tells / Commands the Kohanim , to Tell / Command us , to be Holy and Pure , through time . The Kohanim and us , through time , are to be Pure and Holy and continue to ensure that we keep Holy and Pure , no matter what our Yetzer Horah tries to pull us away to do . The Kohanim were at the time the teachers Of HaShem's Torah and so they had to be the example of Obedience , Purity and Holiness to us , having A Closeness With HaShem . Commands are given to them first and foremost to be Holy , for being Holy , is the best teacher by example . We will quicker listen to a teacher who has that very correct character , when they teach and tell others to be . Before they purify others they must first purify themselves . This is the same for us all . Before we start telling others how to be good and holy , we must first look at ourselves and make ourselves good and moral and holy . Being holy is the best teacher for others and for those around us . Teaching by example has the best impression to those that we come into contact with . It is so easy to look at others and judge others but we need to first look at and within ourselves . Do we properly Keep The Holy Torah Of HaShem And HaShem's Commandments ? Are we as moral as we should be ? Do we always do what we should do ? Are we always as kind to others as we should be ? Are we a good example of Holiness and Morality and Correctness ? Are we who we should be , religiously and morally ? Are we as religious and Torah - Following and Torah - Observant as we should be ? Of course we are not . We can always do better and improve . That does not mean that we must not teach others to improve . It means that we also need to look at ourselves , before we look to and hunt for the faults of others . If we are totally honest with ourselves , we will find plenty of room for improvement . We often see the very faults in others , that are most apparent , within ourselves . Perhaps we should think on that . The very things that catch our attention in others , are the very things that we ourselves probably need improvement on . HaShem Tells the Kohanim to be pure before they purify others . This is how it should be with us all . Let us all look within and clean our own Avodas HaShem - Service Of HaShem , before we go out and tell others the same things that we ourselves have a fault with . Cleaning our own faults will Spiritually cause a ripple in everything around us and so will send the opening of Spiritual Cleansing to those around us that have the same issue to correct and so will others easier listen to our well meaning attempts to purify this World . When we notice a specific problem in others , there may be a reason why that specific thing caught our attention . Perhaps HaShem Is " Emor " - " Saying And Talking " To us Through our own will , so that we can look deeper into ourselves and correct that very thing within ourselves . HaShem " Emor " - " Speaks " To us All The Time . We really need to listen and look closer at everything that catches our attention and at everything that happens around us , For HaShem Who Is Filled With Love And Caring And Compassion , Surrounds us With So Much Love . All that we see and perceive , is for our own benefit , to better ourselves and raise ourselves to Heaven And To HaShem . So let us all start now and really look very deeply and honestly within ourselves and work on those things that are not what they should be within ourselves and let us make ourselves shining examples Of Holiness , for that is the best and most effective teacher of all , to bring all things around us To The Pathway Of HaShem Ha Kadosh Baruch Hu , HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . Our Parsha this Shabbos is also a Double Portion and is of the Sedras of Acharei Mot and Kedoshim and the Haftorah for when both Sedras are read together , is in Amos 9 : 7 - 15 and just like one of the subjects in the Parsha , the Haftorah relates how we have treated HaShem And how HaShem's Mercy is Everlasting And How HaShem Will Again Have Mercy On us And Raise Up David's Booth and we will never be uprooted from Eretz Yisroel ever again . A Strong Reminder That Keeping HaShem's Commandments Very Much Affects our stay in our Holy Land Eretz Yisroel , That HaShem Gives us As A Gift , Providing That we Keep Eretz Yisroel As HaShem Commands us To Keep It , As A Holy Land Where HaShem's Holy Torah And Torah Laws And Shabbos Are Kept Always As HaShem Commands , Thus Keeping HaShem Ever Close . Acharei Mot Chapter 16 is usually read on Yom Kippur as it includes The Holy Yom Kippur Service . HaShem Speaks To Moshe " Acharei Mos " - " After the death of " Aharon's two sons Nadav and Avihu , About The Holiness Of The Sanctuary , Within the Curtain , Near The Ark Of The Covenant And That Aharon should not enter there at other times , except on Yom Kippur . This Was A Most Holy Place , With HaShem's Shechinah and Malachim Angels Present and unlike Aharon's two sons who entered A Holy Place on their own wishes and decision , It Is Only HaShem Who Can Give Permission To Enter It . Moshe was not bound by this , but Aharon and all others were . The Parsha describes The Yom Kippur Service , When Atonement is made . This very day was a day That HaShem Set For our Atonement , for it was after the Sin of the golden calf , the Chait Ha'Eigel , That Moshe Went Up To HaShem ( going up all together , in total , for a period of three different occasions , for a period of 40 days each time ) , and it was on this last time up there , when Moshe left to go up on the 29th of Av , that after 40 days , on the 10th of Tishrei , The Holy Day of Yom Kippur , that Moshe finally attained for us Atonement and so is this day also set for Atonement . Preparations for The Yom Kippur Service began 7 days before , for the Kohein Gadol , who would purify himself beforehand , for the 7 days and on two of the days in between , would be sprinkled with the ashes of the Parah Aduma - The Red Heifer . Delegates would be sent to help him prepare and instruct him in all that would be necessary . On the Night of Yom Kippur , the Kohein Gadol would not sleep , but he would stay up and study and even had an attendant who would ensure that he stayed awake . During the Service throughout the day of Yom Kippur , the Kohein Gadol would immerse himself in the spring water five times and change his garments . When going into the Kodesh , he would remove his four garments of Gold ( as gold was used in the Chait Ha ' Eigel ) and wear only his other Garments of pure white , like the Malachim - Angels . Offerings were also done on This Holy Day and This Day , As The Parsha mentions , is known for the lots placed on two goats , one For HaShem and the other " Azazel . " The goat for Azazel would be taken and sent with a designated person that was to pass on within that year of doing this and this goat was to be sent off a precipice . Only then , would the Kohein Gadol continue with The Service . The Law of the he-goat to Azazel is a Chok , A Law For Which HaShem Has Given no explanation . Our Rabbonim of Blessed Memory do teach us what may be a few reasons for this Law . None of them are a show to bribe a negative force , Chas Ve Shalom , on our behalf for that Day . The word " Azazel " has a few derivations . One of them being , that the word " Azazel " can be broken up into the words ' Az ' which means ' goat ' and ' Azel , ' which means ' going , ' which is exactly what this procedure was , a goat that must go into the Wilderness . Also , the word " Azazel , " can also be broken up into the words ' Aziz ' - ' Strong ' and ' el ' - ' Mighty , ' for it was to a strong and mighty cliff and rock from which the goat had to be sent off from . Some of our Rabbis also assume that it referred to a specific cliff with this name . There is a deeper meaning within this word " Azazel . " This goes back to the time of Noach . Around that time , two Malachim Angels Approached HaShem and questioned the morality of human beings . They Asked HaShem why He Created humans if they perform such acts of Immorality and Perversion . HaShem Told these two Angels , that it certainly is not easy to be a human being , with the pull of the Yetzer Horah and with the desires that human beings physically feel . These two Angels Asked HaShem To Send them down so that they could prove that they could do better . HaShem Warned them that it is hard to be human and that they cannot understand the pull of physicality that a human has . They insisted And HaShem Sent them down . Their names were Azael and Shemchazai ( shortened to Aza ) and when we put these two names together , one gets ' Azazel . ' These two Angels , when they did come down , realized how wrong they had been , for they were unable to contain or control themselves , with this experience of being in human bodies with human desires and appetites and so , ended up doing worse than the humans did , in sexual immorality and other sins . They could not contain themselves with human women and brought forth a whole race of Nephillim , The Fallen Ones . It Was Then That HaShem Sent the Mabul , the Flood , for the depth to which man stooped , left no place for betterment . People at that time , took more than one wife , one for having children and others for their own personal pleasure . People exchanged wives and at that time , people also indulged in the horrific act of bestiality and other forbidden relationships That HaShem , In this very Torah Portion , Warns us against . People also at that time , arranged marriage contracts between people and animals and also allowed different species to come together , something That HaShem Strictly Forbade . No wonder this particular event would bring on a need for such an act of atoning for the World within the connection of these two Angelic beings that both make up the name Azazel , for the sin of sexual immorality is , According To Halacha , one of the three most serious sins , the other two being Idol Worship and Murder , the three sins that a Jew is to give up his or her life for , rather than commit them . There may also be a connection with this name Azazel , to Samael , the Angel of Eisav , the Angel who tempted Chava in Gan Eiden . This Angel Samael , insisted To HaShem , that it wants to Judge the Jewish people , as all other nations get judged . HaShem , Needing to be fair , Gave Samael the permission to Judge us only on Yom Kippur , For HaShem Knew that this would be a Day that all Jews , even those who do not correctly Keep all The Laws That HaShem Tells us to keep , that this would be a Day that all Jews would Remember Yom Kippur and try their best and Atone . So HaShem Knew that even on this day , Samael's negative intention would hold no power over HaShem's Beloved people . Samael wanted some form of recompense and so , a he - goat is sent for this purpose as an offering To HaShem , that Samael can think is to do with him . As I said , Samael is the Angel of our greatest enemy Eisav Amalek and Eisav was to have the place mountain called Se'ir . This name has a deep reason , for the word ' Se'ir ' means ' hair ' for Eisav was born very hairy and so , this place was an indication of his hairy hard nature , which looks to gratifying his own physical appetites and his need for hunting and eating meat , one of them being the he-goat , where a ' Se'ir , ' also means ' he-goat ' ( let us remember the goat that Eisav was to bring to his Father , the goat that Yaakov brought to his Father and the goat that was dipped in blood by Yosef's brothers , that they brought to their Father Yaakov ) , how deeply Beautiful and Special , Is HaShem's Holy Torah And How Long - Standing And Patient Is HaShem's Mercy . Thus , the he-goat is sent off to Atone for the affects that those around us Jews attempt to do , to turn us away from Holy Judaism , Chas Ve Shalom , and so are we Atoned . The goat has been a representative symbol for Satanistic beliefs for a long time and so , this characteristic , comes from Eisav and his ilk around us , that perform the most despicable atrocities throughout history . The Torah Portion continues with the full Yom Kippur Service and that It Is to be an Eternal Decree for us Jews . The Torah Portion then continues with the prohibition not to eat blood , for in all the body parts of the beheimah - animal , it is their blood part that is for atonement . That does not mean that blood is the only way to atone , as some of the heretical thinkers try to claim , for the verse directly says that in all parts of the animal , the part of blood is the part for atonement , ( never to be eaten ) , in connection with offerings and that there are other ways to atone , like at a time when we do not have a Temple , HaShem Many Times Teaches us that our lips substitute for bulls and rams - Psalms 32:5 ; Psalms 69:30-32 ; Psalms 51:15-19 ; Micah 6:6-8 ; 1 Kings 8:44-52 ; the Book of Jonah and 1 Samuel 15:22 . Thus Blood is not to be eaten , as some nations did in those days . HaShem's Holy Torah Then Teaches us of the Forbidden Relationships that we as HaShem's People Are Not to engage in , To Keep us As a Holy People , unlike the Egyptians and Canaanites that wrongly indulged in such things . Among these , is mentioned the Law not to pass our children through to molech , which was a ritual where a child was passed between two flames in front of the assyrian idol that had a calf's face with outstretched hands and 7 compartments in its heated stomach , where the child was put into the 7th compartment . It is interesting to note that the this idol called molech , was like an egyptian form of baal , from where the term ' baal-zebub ' came from and that in islam , they have an angel called ' maalik ' which is their angel of hellfire and that their angel called malakbel , from the ancient canaanite religion , was at the time , the idol messenger of baal , the idol . No wonder they used fire on children at the time , if the belief was of hellfire . HaShem Then Cautions us not to follow , in any way shape or form , the abominations of the nations , who did all these depravities and so did Israel , the Land , The Place of HaShem's Special Closeness , did disgorge them from the Holy Land , A Land That will never tolerate any form of depravity , secularism or immorality or idol worship of any nation . It must be A Land of Milk And Honey , Of Torah And Sweet Holiness , For HaShem . Thus is the Haftorah linked . In this last line and paragraph of this Parsha , is a Strong Warning , that we Jews are not in any way , to take on the beliefs and ways of anyone else around us , For Only The Holy Torah Laws And The Teachings From HaShem To Moshe And our Sages , Are True . Such an ending in words , is a sweet connection to the start of the following Sedra Kedoshim , which starts out near its beginning saying , " Kedoshim Tiheyu Ki Kadosh Ani HaShem Elokeichem " - " You shall be Holy , For Holy Am I , HaShem , your G-D . " To be separate from other people and from foreign ways and to be Holy to G-D , Is The Pathway of the Jew . For this , Every Commandment That HaShem Ever Gave And Gives us , Is To Lead us To Be Holy , As HaShem Is Holy . This Parsha of Kedoshim , starts out With HaShem's Holy Laws To Lead us To " Kedoshim " - " Holiness . " HaShem Reminds us to honour our Mother and Father , of Sabbath Observance and not to turn to idols . HaShem Then Talks of Piggul - Rejected Offerings , Gifts to the poor , being Honest in our dealings with others , not to be a gossip - monger and tale - bearer ( Rechilus - The Midrash Says - Rabbi M Weissman ) among our people , not to stand by , while our fellow's blood is shed , not to bear a grudge against one of our fellow Jews , to Love our fellow Jew as ourselves for , As HaShem's Torah Says , " I Am HaShem . " This Acknowledgement Of " I Am HaShem , " is also to remind us That HaShem's Love And Light Is Within us all and how we treat others , is thus how we treat HaShem - so be good to others , as this is being good to HaShem And Keep HaShem's Commandments . HaShem Then Reminds us Of The Law Of Kilayim , Forbidden Mixtures , not to mix species , the Shifchah Charufah - the designated Maidservant , the time needed to wait after planting before partaking , not to indulge in sorcery , of not picking specific times due to omens , not to round off the edge of our scalp or beard , not to make cuts or gashes when in mourning and not to tattoo ourselves ( an act that was done by idolworshipers ) . The Law Of not mixing wool and linen in a garment ( Shaatnez ) , goes back to Kayin and Hevel ( Cain and Abel ) , where Kayin brought the flax linen , while Hevel brought the woollen sheep as an offering . These two men both had opposing views of how to treat HaShem and so , we do not mix such views and such fibres . The only time that these fibres can come together is in a Holy Garment like Tzitzis and in the Bigdei Kehuna , the Priestly Garment ( The Midrash Says - Rabbi M Weissman ) , where the Holiness of this Garment brings Sholom - Peace between the two . Then HaShem's Holy Torah Reminds us To Keep HaShem's Sabbaths . Each Day of the week has a partner . Yom Rishon has Yom Sheni . Yom Shelishi has Yom Revi'i . Yom Chamishi has Yom Shishi . So when Yom Shabbat saw that it had no partner , it came To HaShem And Asked HaShem Where is It's Partner . HaShem Answered That For All Time , The Jewish People Will be It's Partner And Every Jewish Person Is To Keep The Holy Shabbos As HaShem Commands It To Be Kept And Be a Partner To HaShem's Holy Shabbos As HaShem Commands , And So Must We Jews Keep It As HaShem Commands In The Holiest Ways With It's 39 Melachos , Forbidden Labours , Shabbos juxtaposed In HaShem's Holy Torah with the Forbidden Labours not to be done in the Holy Temple Tabernacle , And SO Can We Jews , Bring On The Eternal Shabbos and return to Gan Eiden again . Our Rabbis have often said that It isn't only That we Jews Keep The Shabbos , but that The Shabbos Has Kept us Jews through the ages . HaShem Gives us six other days to do our wants . So easy is it for us Jews to all just Give HaShem one day in seven For HaShem , Who Gives us everything . May All Jews Obey HaShem And Keep HaShem's Very Holy Shabbos Day As And In The Way That HaShem Commands us Jews To Keep It And Spend This Very Holy Day With HaShem In Closeness And Love Always . We are Commanded not to turn to the sorcery of the Ov or Yid'onim , ways of fortune-telling , but to remain Faithful To HaShem And Trust In HaShem Wholeheartedly . We are to rise in the presence of an old person ( the sweet golden heart of our people , who can teach us much Holiness and Wisdom and Experience and Morals ) and to honour the presence of a Torah Sage . We are to be good to the Proselyte , the Convert to Full Torah Judaism and treat them justly and love them like ourselves , for we too were strangers once in Egypt . We are not to commit a perversion of Justice , in measures of length , weight and volume and we are to have correct scales , weights and dry measures and correct liquid measures and in Holiness , HaShem Says , as Often Appears after each Law here , " I Am HaShem Your G-D , Who Brought you out from the Land of Egypt . You Shall Observe My Decrees And All My Ordinances and you shall perform them - I Am HaShem . " HaShem Then Again Warns us against offering to molech , And Reiterates the Arayos - Forbidden Relationships , with more detail on the punishments for these sins , ending with reminding us To Keep HaShem's Decrees And Ordinances and then the Land of Israel will not disgorge us ( a link to the Haftorah ) , for we are not to follow the practices of those that were there at other times , That Were Disgorged and we are To Remain Holy As HaShem Is Holy , Who Has Separated us Jews from other people . We are to Keep Israel as a Land Flowing with Milk and Honey ( a reference to Torah ) and not ever to follow the ways of other people and their traditions and beliefs . We Are Only To Follow HaShem And HaShem's Ways And Commandments Only . We are To Keep Kosher As HaShem In His Torah Clearly States and keep away from that which is unclean . We are not to follow the sorcery of the Ov or of Yid'oni , a crime that deserves death by stoning . The Parsha leaves us with a beautiful Statement that , " You shall be holy for Me , For I HaShem Am Holy And I Have Separated you from the peoples to be Mine . " How much more clear can it be . This is as clear A Show Of HaShem's Love For His Jewish people , For As HaShem Says , We Jewish people are His - using the word " Mine " that shows such personal Love And Sweet Closeness That HaShem Feels for us Jews . May All our fellow Jews Faithfully Give HaShem In Return , their Faithfulness And Obedience To HaShem's Wants , Laws And Commandments In Love . As this Parsha of Kedoshim and the Parsha of Acharei Mot show , we are to be Holy and to be At One With HaShem Always . HaShem Gave us A Holy Yom Kippur to Atone for our transgressions and we Are To Keep HaShem's Holy Laws , For we Are To Be Holy To HaShem Always , Keeping Separate And Kosher As HaShem Commands for our good , and we are to far away from that which is Forbidden and not Commanded By HaShem , We are to be a Jewish People , separate from other people , Keeping Holy As HaShem Is Holy . This is not a means for us to be arrogant at all , Chas Ve Shalom . We are not to go around being arrogant . HaShem Has Chosen us For A Very Special Task , A Task That we ourselves chose through Avraham , That he himself Chose HaShem and realized The Truth Of HaShem's Oneness and so , as he did , so are we to do , To Be A Light Unto The Nations - Isaiah 49:6 and Isaiah 2:5 , To Teach them The Truth Of The Oneness Of HaShem and To Teach The Way To Follow HaShem And HaShem's Oneness In Truth . We must start with ourselves , just as the Kohein Gadol starts with his own Offering , to cleanse and purify himself , before others , In Following HaShem's Very Holy Laws And Keeping HaShem's Very Holy Days and being ever so humble and quick to correct ourselves And Keep HaShem's Holy Day of Atonement , Yom Kippur , The Day That HaShem Forgave us . Torah Is A Light That Guides us Through this stormy sea of Physicality , like the lighthouse that guides a ship back home , So Is The Holy Torah The Only Way To Get To The Light Of HaShem . Torah Is our Lighthouse That Steers us Home To HaShem , Into HaShem's Loving Arms . We are to be a Holy people To HaShem . We are To Keep our Gift That Is Given By HaShem , A Gift That HaShem Gave us With So Much Love , The Gift Of Israel , To Be A Holy Land , Where we Follow HaShem's Holy Gift Of Torah , As HaShem Asks Of us To Do . We are in every way and at every moment , To Emulate HaShem , in all that we do and in all that we are . HaShem's Spark Of Love Is Within us all and every action that we do , must be a representative Of The Goodness Of HaShem Always . We are HaShem's Representatives and so must we act accordingly , To Be Holy , As HaShem Is Holy . Let us all Love HaShem As we Should Love Him And Show HaShem How Much we Do Love Him , By Doing Everything That HaShem Asks Of us To Do And Being Everything That HaShem Wants Of us To Be , For HaShem Has Given us His Beautiful Holy Torah Of Light , For With HaShem's Love , HaShem And HaShem's Holy Torah Will Carry us Home . Our home Is With HaShem . May we all Always Emulate HaShem And Rest Securely And Safely In HaShem's Tender Loving Care .
