The Shabbos Parsha is Parashas Shemos , The Second Book of The Holy Torah . The Holy Book Of Shemos Exodus introduces us to a very holy and very humble beloved Prophet Moshe Rabbeinu . The Haftorah for this Sedra is Yeshayahu Isaiah 27 : 6 - 28 : 13 , 29 : 22 - 23 , teaching of the growing of Israel as a holy nation that is descended from our holy Fore-Father Yaakov and how in this Parsha , our holy Jewish nation became a "Shemos " - " Name " and the Sephardic Reading for the Haftorah is in Yirmeyahu 1 : 1 - 2 : 3 and relates to the Torah Reading by teaching of another Prophet That Was Called By HaShem , where Moshe was called as a Prophet in the Parsha . I would really like to take this opportunity to thank Beloved HaShem For Giving me what to write in my Parsha writing every week and this week . Thank You Ever So Much my Beloved HaShem . Yosef became the ruler in Egypt after Pharaoh had passed away . Then after many years Yosef and his brothers passed away , the last one to pass away from that generation was Levi and after they passed on , our people stopped being so careful not to mix with the Egyptian way of life , attending their functions and being less careful to shun their idols , wearing their finery and jewellery no matter what it's pagan connotation . Though we kept our Jewish names there ( also one of the points to why this Parsha is called " Shemos - " Names " for that was a big point where we did not mix with Egyptians in this specific way , by keeping our Hebrew Names ) , some of our people wrongly mixed too closely with Egyptian society and started to forget our Holy Jewish Traditions , sadly like what happens today in our times , where today it is not realized how the use of some secular words and pagan festivals and their words are wrongly so easily used in every day conversation , or when others have their festivals that have origins in pagan Avodah Zorah Idol Worship , such is not allowed By The Laws Of G-D Directly ( Leviticus 19 : 26 ; 20 : 23 ; 18 : 3 and 19 : 27 ; Deuteronomy 12 : 30 ; 14 : 2 ) . The Tribe of Levi though remained Faithful To HaShem and did not assimilate And So they Were Rewarded By HaShem , by not being included in the forced slavery labour in Egypt . HaShem Caused A Miracle To Take Place That the Jewish People were Blessed to become very fruitful , teeming and increasing greatly in the land and also being very physically strong , some families having sextuplets . After Yosef passed away a new King Pharaoh ( believed to have been a king Seti ) was appointed over Egypt , " New " in the form of one who did not remain faithful to the assistance That HaShem Had Given , through Yosef , in saving the country from the Famine and noticing the increase of our people , he called his advisors , for the Egyptian hierarchy constantly spoke to him of their concern that the Canaanites might attack them wanting their money back that they had paid for the grain during the years of famine and seeing that the Jews were from Canaan , the Egyptians feared that we would join the Canaanites and attack Egypt , for Canaan was on one side of Egypt while we in Goshen were on the other and some of the Egyptians feared that they would be stuck in the middle . Of course this fear was unfounded and this Pharaoh tried at first to remind them that it was Yosef , a member of the Jewish people who had helped them but the elite of Egypt would hear nothing of it and they ousted this Pharaoh and for three months Egypt sat without a head ruler . The pressure put on this Pharaoh caused him to change his mind and after the three months , he again ascended the throne with new ideals ( thus was he also called " a new Pharaoh " who did not know the good That HaShem Had Done Through Yosef and our people ) , pro Egypt and Anti - Jewish , so he could keep his position . How often has this sad happening repeated itself through time for us Jews , where foreign nations forget the good we Jews have done and find ways to kick us out or kill us . Bilaam ( Lot's grandson and terrible enemy of the Jews ) , at the time was one of the advisors to Pharaoh who pushed the hatred of the Jews to even higher levels ensuring that Pharaoh institute new decrees against the Jews , like forbidding Circumcision . How often has that happened to our Jewish people through time . They devised a plan to halt the increase of Jews being born and the idea was to separate man and wife by putting men to hard labour day and night . But this did not happen straight away . Pharaoh and Bilaam and the advisors were crafty and deceitful and at first made the call up to work like a big mission for the country as if to pay the country a great service , advertising a new work project for people to volunteer for and pay was offered . It was made to appear very lucrative and Egyptians came streaming in to join . Egyptians were told to tell their Jewish neighbours that Egypt had been very good to them and so they too should show their gratitude by volunteering . To make it look even more like a very important task , Pharaoh himself appeared at the work site with spade in hand and showed how he too would dig and work for this important project . But the Egyptians were deceitful and so the places chosen for the project , Pithom and Raamses , were places full of swampy ground where no building project at the time could possibly succeed or ever get finished and any attempt to build there would be never ending for building structures would constantly topple and fall and thus more hard labour would be put on the Jews . Pharaoh carried on with this supposed mock project for a month where Egyptians would still come and partake but suddenly after the first month , every day there would be fewer Egyptians until only Jews were left working . Suddenly pay for the tasks ended and new task-masters were appointed to oversee that the Jews could not leave and had to continue working or be severely whipped should they even stop for a breather break . The following day , the Jews tried not to go but Pharaoh sent forces to force them out of their homes and so , the years of slavery for us started with a vengeance . Women too were forced to do labour and some of the women were put to hard tasks that were for men . At night the Jews hoped for a reprieve of a small rest but then too were they forced by the individual Egyptians to come and slave in their houses , so Pharaoh and Bilaam's plan to prevent Jewish husband and wife from being together so as to procreate , now was deceitfully in play . Pharaoh saw that no matter how much they slaved , the Jews kept increasing For HaShem Continued His Miracles For us and also the Jewish women would beautify themselves with their mirrors to ensure their husbands would still be with them and our children would still increase . Pharaoh called the Hebrew Midwives Shifrah ( who was Moshe's Ima Yocheved ) and Puah ( who was Moshe's little sister Miryam ) and ordered them to kill every male born , but to keep the female children alive ( and they were ordered to never even tell the Jews what Pharaoh had ordered them to do but to do it secretly ) but they courageously followed HaShem And HaShem's Protection Of our Jewish people and they disobeyed . When Pharaoh called them and asked them why they had not listened to him , they answered that the Jewish women give birth on their own without even the need of a midwife and so the children get born before they even get there . HaShem Rewarded them and increased our people even more . Torah Teaches Of How HaShem In Reward Made them houses and our Rabbonim tell us that this refers to their houses of ancestry where Yocheved became the ancestress of the House of Kohanim Levites and Miryam became the ancestress of the House of Dovid Ha Melech ( Gemorrah Sotah 11b ) Rashi . Pharaoh had a dream that all his soldiers and strong men were tied up and put on one side of a scale while the Jews represented by a single little lamb was on the other side of the scale and the single lamb weighed down the scale thus overpowering the Egyptians . Pharaoh awoke in panic and Pharaoh again called his advisors who were Bilaam , Yisro ( who became Moshe's Father-In-Law ) and Iyov ( Job ) and asked what should now be done . Pharaoh's astrologers had also seen that a redeemer would be born to the Jews and would be destroyed by water . They had seen wrong for Moshe would not be one of the boys thrown into the Nile . The water that they saw incorrectly was Moshe's result for his actions much later on at Massah U' Meriva when he struck the Rock over an issue of Water and so they misunderstood what they thought they saw . Bilaam spoke up and said that it is no use burning them for we survive fire as Avraham did in the Furnace of Ur Kasdim . It is no use fighting us with the sword , for we are very strong and two of our people Simeon and Levi once had decimated a whole city on their own , the city of Shechem , so Bilaam advised that seeing as our G-D Said He Would Not Send another Mabul Flood , we should as boys be thrown into the River , for he believed That HaShem Would Not Punish us or the World again by another Flood . How wrong Bilaam was , For HaShem Had Only Said That There Would Not be another World Flood But HaShem Could Still Send minor floods Or Punish In Many Other Ways . Yisro advised that seeing as we Jews helped the country we should be left alone . Pharaoh was about to order him killed so Yisro left and took with him the Staff that was once Yosef's that had been passed down from Adam , Shais , Noach , Avraham , Yitzchak , Yaakov and then down to Yosef . Iyov , seeing what might happen if he defends the Jews , decided to remain silent and so ended up ( as we see in the Book of Iyov Job ) Being Tested By HaShem . So Pharaoh took the advice of Bilaam and had the male Jewish children thrown into the Nile , but ordered that every female Jewish child be kept alive , for the Egyptian's ugly nefarious purposes . While the Egyptians were trying to destroy the Jews , HaShem Was Already Working On our Redemption and our redeemer Moshe . From the Tribe of Levi , the grandson of Levi who was Amram , was married to Yocheved and they already had two children Aharon and Miryam Miriam , but when Amram who was the head of the Jewish Sanhedrin type - court at the time saw what the Egyptians were doing to the Jewish boys , he thought it was no use for our people to have children who would Chas Ve Shalom be killed , so he divorced his wife and ordered others to do likewise . Yocheved at this time was already three months pregnant with Moshe . Miryam Miriam approached him and told him that his decree was worse than the Egyptians for they wanted to stop only the male Jewish children from being born but his decree would halt even the female children from being born and he acknowledged her wisdom and remarried his wife and ordered the other husbands to do likewise . The Egyptians would bring their babies to cry near our places in Goshen and get them to cry so it would make our babies cry and they could then find out where we might be hiding our little children so they could kill them . Egyptians would also move into houses next door to us in Goshen and spy on us , pretending to be one of us . HaShem Protected us . Pharaoh's astrologers told Pharaoh that the redeemer was still not destroyed and may have a touch of Egyptian connection , for Moshe was brought up among Egyptians and his adoptive Mother , though a Ger Tzaddekes whose name was Basya , was originally born Egyptian and so Pharaoh then decreed that also Egyptian boys were also to be cast into the Nile . How Wise Is HaShem To Have Confused the Egyptian advisors . Yocheved was able to hide the birth of Moshe for as I mentioned earlier , she was already three months pregnant with him when she and Amram remarried and so he was born earlier than the Egyptians would have expected . When he was born , he was named Yekusiel , but he had throughout his life , other names given to him, like Ben Levi , Avigdor , Avi Socho , Avi Zanoach , Tuvia , Moshe , Chavair , Ben Nesanel and Shemaiya ( Midrash Says - Shemos - Rabbi Weissman ) , ten names in all . Thus Moshe in actual fact had ten names throughout his life that he was known as . When Moshe was born , he was born with a light on his face and he was born circumcised and so , Amram his Father praised his little daughter Miryam Miriam for her wisdom and saving of this redeemer for they saw on Moshe's face and by the fact of him being born circumcised that this child would be a Tzaddik and the Redeemer . Yocheved being very wise , knew of the Egyptian's ploys and knew that the advisors of Pharaoh had told him that the redeemer would be destroyed by water and so she ensured that little Moshe would be put onto water so it would look to the Egyptians that he had been cast into the Nile . This was true for as soon as little Moshe's basket touched the Nile , Pharaoh's astrologers told Pharaoh that the Jewish redeemer has been destroyed Chas Ve Shalom and Pharaoh stopped the edict of casting children into the Nile . The very fact that Yocheved could not hide Moshe anymore was due to the fact that it might be counted now that he would have had the nine months to be born and so she took a wicker basket and covered it with clay and pitch and put Moshe in it and set it afloat on the Nile , with Miryam set to watch over it . How Sweet Is HaShem And How Sweet Is HaShem's Holy Workings For it was at that time that Basya , Pharaoh's daughter , who was coming down to the Nile to do her Tevilah , for she was converting to Judaism , that she heard a little baby cry . In actual fact little Moshe was very quiet But HaShem Sent the Malach Angel Gavriel to tap little Moshe on the nose to make sure he would cry out and be heard And By HaShem , Saved and put in the right position he needed to be . How Holy And Sweet And Beautiful Is HaShem . Basya knew that this was a Hebrew boy and called him Moshe for he was drawn out of the water ( and in honour of this special lady that reared him , HaShem Kept this name Moshe for this ever so holy child ) and it was then that Miryam appeared and offered her own Mother Yocheved to rear the child and so little Moshe was brought up by his real Mother in his very early years and he knew full well of his roots and who he was that he was a Jew . Basya told Yocheved to bring Moshe back when he had grown . Thus HaShem Works His Miracles In Ways Beyond our own small intelligence for in the midst of our enemy Did HaShem Secure His Choice Of A Redeemer . Moshe thus grew up in the court of Pharaoh and Pharaoh himself took a great liking to this special child . One day while Moshe was playing on Pharaoh's lap at the table , Moshe took Pharaoh's crown off his head and put it on his own head and went and sat on Pharaoh's throne . This greatly troubled Pharaoh and he again called his advisors Bilaam , Yisro and Iyov to ask what should be done with the child . Bilaam said to kill the boy , Yisro said to save the boy and Iyov again kept silent and Bilaam advised that the boy be tested with a hot piece of coal or precious jewel to test if the boy's previous action was one of knowing . Moshe was about to put his hand toward the precious jewel When HaShem Sent the Malach Angel Gavriel to push his hand toward the coal so as to save his life and so Moshe put the hot coal into his mouth and burnt his mouth and thus was hard of speech . Moshe knew that he was a Jew and so he would go out with his brethren into the brick-pits . He could have continued as a prince , but he chose to suffer with his people . One day he went out and saw an Egyptian task master mercilessly beating a fellow Jew , Dasan . What had happened was that the Egyptian task-master had waited for Dasan to leave and go to work and then the egyptian taskmaster had returned to Dasan's home and proceeded to enter the house and force himself upon Dasan's wife Shelomis . She was known as Shelomis for she would often go out and flirt with males saying hello to everyone in a flirtatious way and sadly even Egyptian ones and on this day Dasan had returned home to find his wife had been abused . Dasan had taken issue with the Egyptian and the Egyptian had beaten him mercilessly . It was then that Moshe arrived and as Torah says " Looked this way and that and saw no man " which according to our holy Rabbonim actually meant that Moshe was able to look forward and backward into this man's generations and see that none of them would be a good person worthy of being called a man and so Moshe pronounced the " Shem Ha Meforash " - " HaShem's 72 Letter Hidden Name and so the Egyptian was struck dead . The following day , Moshe again came across this same Dasan who was arguing with his wife's brother Aviram , for Dasan wanted to divorce his wife but Aviram objected and so Moshe again intervened . This time he was shouted down and asked who had appointed him as a dignitary , ruler and judge over them , which was so prophetic , as this is exactly what Moshe was destined to be and became . It also came up in their words of what he had done to the Egyptian the day before . Moshe realized how the matter was now known and sadly Dasan and Aviram went and told Pharaoh on him , so Pharaoh after investigating the matter , sought his life . The Midrash tells us how Moshe was caught and brought for execution And How Miraculously With HaShem's Help , the blade struck his neck and bounced back and killed the executioner while Moshe escaped unharmed . Thank You Most Beloved HaShem . Moshe fled from Egypt and did not go straight to Midyan Midian , but stopped first with the Cushites and joined forces with King Kokenus . The King had left his palace to attend to certain matters with his soldiers against the Kedemites with whom the Cushites were at war . In the meantime , Bilaam had also made his way with his two sons Yunus and Yumbrus to the same place and had evilly turned the people against their king and they had set up a moat around the city while the king was away and put into the water , reptiles and small dangerous snakes to prevent the king's return . It was at this time that Moshe arrived on the scene . He advised the king to collect birds and send the birds toward the moat where they ate the little snakes and so the king regained entry into his kingdom . Moshe was given rulership after this king died and the king's wife wanted to marry Moshe but Moshe refused and wanted nothing to do with their idol worshiping ways . The queen wanted an idol worshiper on the throne and by now her son Mumcham had grown and he was put as king and Moshe was politely sent off with little thanks . Moshe had left Egypt at the age of twenty seven and now it was forty years later when he finally arrived at the well in Midyan - Midian , making him sixty seven when he got there . Moshe came and saved Yisro's unmarried daughters from the Amelekites who had tried to push them aside at the well . Again we have a holy ancestor meeting his intended at a well , like Eliezer met Rivka who was Yitzchak's intended and Yaakov had met Rachel his intended and Avram had met Sarai at a well . Moshe was first brought to Reuel , who was actually a Father figure of Yisro's daughters but he was actually Yisro's Father and then Moshe was brought before Yisro . When Yisro saw who it was and realized that this is a fugitive from Egypt , Yisro put him in a ward like a cell for ten years and it was Tzipporah who brought him food . After ten years , where Moshe was now seventy seven , Yisro let him out and so he married Tzipporah , whose holy actions were light and holy like a Tzippor Bird and Moshe watched over Yisro's sheep . Yisro had these unmarried daughters as he had tried many religions and found them all false as he did with the Midianite religion and so people did not want to marry his daughters . One day while Moshe was walking in Yisro's field , he saw a staff sticking out of the ground . He pulled it and it came out in his hand . This holy staff had engraved on it The Name Of HaShem and the Hebrew acronym of the Ten Plagues ( DTZ"CH AD"SH B'ACH"V ) That HaShem Would Send Upon Egypt , Engraved long long before this event ever took place , Engraved By HaShem In Adam Ha Rishon's time . Moshe went to Yisro and asked him about this staff and Yisro told him that it was the staff belonging to Yosef that he had taken out of the court of Egypt and that Yisro had stuck part of it into the ground and that no one had ever been able to pull it out again and that it was told then that only the Chosen Redeemer Of G-D would be able to pull it out and so did this true story come down in history and became the story that even touched the legend of king arthur and the sword excalibur . So did Moshe have sons with Tzipporah and they were named Gershom and Eliezer . Yisro had allowed Moshe to marry his daughter as long as Moshe does not return to Egypt . One day while Moshe was pasturing and watching Yisro's sheep , one lamb ran astray and Moshe , being a man who would not lose a single one , for all were important to this very caring man , so Moshe left the flock to go and find the lost one . He found it and carried it all the way back on his shoulders , for he said to it , ' come my little one , you need not be alone , for you are with other sheep and even one will be missed . ' HaShem Watched this beautiful caring scene And Said To Himself , " Such a man that will even go so far as to see that not a single lamb ( Jew ) is lost is certainly the one who should redeem my people and carry to them and teach them My Laws And Torah Commandments . " It was at this time , that a new Pharaoh was now over Egypt , Seti's son Raamses II ( who had grown up with Moshe ) and this man proclaimed himself deified and told people that he had created the Nile . Because of this , HaShem Gave him leprosy and he would go down to the Nile early in the morning to bathe ( early so that no one would see him that he wasn't deified and that he would need the Nile to cleanse himself , for all Egyptians at the time , being so reliant on the Nile for watering the land , had thought too that the Nile was deified , but the Nile was not helping Pharaoh's leprosy - Oh what idol worshipers these people were ) , so this evil Pharaoh had little Jewish children killed and bathed in their blood . It was at this very time when the outcry of these children went up To HaShem , for now the Egyptians had gone too far . It was also at this time that Moshe was pasturing the sheep , when Moshe had gone to save this one little lamb and Moshe being the holy man that he was , was pulled to Har Sinai ( Humble Moshe and this particular unimposing humble mountain were drawn to each other for both were so humble ) , for Moshe found himself at its base . Moshe was called upon to notice that a bush on the mountain was aflame and when Moshe stepped a step closer , Moshe noticed that it was not devoured or consumed . HaShem Knew That Moshe would be attracted by this site For HaShem Had Appeared To Moshe when Moshe was a little boy and even then at a young age Moshe had asked HaShem how come his people are left in bondage and Moshe had compared us to the beautiful foliage and bushes that are being burnt with the fury of slavery . So this bush that was aflame but not being burnt , was a reminder to Moshe that though the nations hurt us and want to destroy us and burn us , we will Be Saved By HaShem and live eternally as a Nation . At First HaShem Instructed the Malach Angel to call to Moshe in his Father Amram's Voice so as not to scare Moshe and so Moshe knew that Amram must have by now passed away and was close To HaShem . HaShem Asked Moshe to remove his shoes for he was standing on Holy Ground . HaShem Introduced Himself Being G-D Of our Fore-Fathers and Moshe hid his face in humility . HaShem Told Moshe How HaShem Had Seen our Affliction in Mitzrayim , Egypt , for the word Mitzrayim meant borders as if locked in for those in Egypt were not allowed to leave unless with Pharaoh's permission and Bilaam had even used negative forces to put a negative force border around Egypt to make it hard to leave , Bilaam doing this so as to try lock The Jews in there , But HaShem Is All Powerful , HaShem Is G-D The One And Only . HaShem Told Moshe How HaShem Would Take us Jews out And Bring us To HaShem's and our Holy Land And HaShem Told Moshe That HaShem Would Dispatch Moshe to Pharaoh And That HaShem Would Take us Out of Egypt , but with trials and Ten Plagues at Pharaoh and Egypt . Moshe replied humbly that he was unworthy . HaShem Assured Moshe That HaShem Would Be With Moshe . Moshe asked what Is HaShem Name And HaShem Responded that he should say " E'h'yeh Asher E'h'yeh " - " I Shall Be As I Shall Be " Sent Moshe . Moshe caught on that the fact that two " Shall Be's " were mentioned , that this showed That HaShem Was Actually Saying to Moshe That " I Shall Be in this exile , As I shall Be in future exiles , " so Moshe realized that this would not be a final redemption for all time for our people and that the Final Redemption would come later in the future and that we would face other future exiles and Moshe mentioned this To HaShem Who Praised Moshe for his compassion And Thus Told Moshe to just mention the freeing from this exile , thus saying As HaShem's Name " I Shall Be Sent me to you . " HaShem Told Moshe How HaShem Would Strike Egypt With All HaShem's Wonders and how they would eventually send us out with great wealth , for all the years of slavery . Moshe continued humbly trying to persuade HaShem that he was not worthy and wrongly showed disbelief in the people not believing in him , So HaShem Showed him the miracle of the staff turning into a snake and the action of putting his hand against his chest and it becoming leprous , not just as a sign for Egypt , but as a show that one must not Loshon or slander others or talk badly of others , like the snake did in Gan Eiden and that punishment for slander is Leprosy Tzaraas . The sign to bring the people to this very mountain and to pour water on the ground in Egypt and it becomes blood , HaShem Also Mentioned To Moshe . Moshe continued to humbly try to Have HaShem Choose another and mentioned his speech impediment And HaShem Reminded him That It Is HaShem Who Makes speech , hearing and sight . Moshe continued to humbly try to step back and said , " Please my L-RD , send through whomever You will send . " Moshe was saying that there must be others more worthy . HaShem Was Angry And Mentioned Aharon , Moshe's brother , who would go with him and assist Moshe for Aharon was already on the way to meet Moshe , For HaShem Also Appeared To Aharon . Because of Moshe's continued disagreeing to be sent , Moshe lost the position of Kohain Gadol High Priest , that was now given to Aharon . HaShem Spoke To Moshe On Har Sinai , while Moshe had continued to humbly try and step back from it , for a period of seven days and after the seven days , Moshe finally had to agree . And so , Moshe returned to Yisro Yeter and asked Yisro to annul Moshe's words to him that he had previously said , that he would not return to Egypt . Moshe told Yisro that the time had come For HaShem To Redeem the Jews , his people , the Children of Israel , from the land of Egypt and so Yisro told him to " Go to peace . " Still Moshe delayed And HaShem Again Appeared to Moshe in Midyan Midian and Told him to return to Egypt for the people that were seeking his life had died . So Moshe took his wife and sons and put them on the donkey and he returned to Egypt And HaShem Told him that he was to tell Pharaoh that Israel Is HaShem's Firstborn Son ( Shemos Exodus 4:22 ) And HaShem Told Moshe Of The Wonders That HaShem Would Perform In Egypt . On the way to Egypt , HaShem Encountered Moshe , for Moshe had not yet circumcised his son Gershom and Tzipporah holy as she was , realized why this encounter was happening and she circumcised her son . Tzipporah was forced to remain with her children for the child had to heal , which is why Moshe had not rushed to circumcise him , himself , as he knew he had to travel . HaShem Appeared To Aharon And Told him to go and to meet his brother Moshe . And so they met and Moshe told him of all the signs and words that were told to him that he could tell his brother . Moshe and Aharon went and gathered the elders and told them the prophetic words that the True Redeemer would tell , remembered through the generations by Serach bas Asher , who was alive in Yosef's time , when Yosef had said what the True Redeemer would come and say , which were corroborated " Pakad - Pakod Pakadti " and so the elders believed in Moshe and Aharon . HaShem Had Instructed Moshe to at first tell Pharaoh that the Jews would go for three days , not at first telling the Egyptians that it would be permanent , because the previous Pharaoh had also not told the Jews at first when they were called to first come for the work project , what the real story was . So Moshe and Aharon went to Pharaoh and at first went with the elders but on the way they saw the lions and other wild animals among the decimated Jewish bodies lying beaten and hurt , but one by one , the elders left in fear and so were the elders made to stand lower at a later time when we all stood at Har Sinai . When Moshe and Aharon came before Pharaoh , they asked Pharaoh to send out the Jewish people to serve G-D in the Wilderness . Pharaoh was in the middle of a festival where other dignitaries from other countries also were visiting and bringing gifts and Pharaoh asked these two men standing tall and filled with light , from whom they come and what gifts they brought him . They said that they come From G-D The Most High and their gift is a message to tell Pharaoh From G-D The Most High And The Only True G-D , ' To Let My People Go . ' Pharaoh responded that he knew not of this G-D and asked his advisors to bring him the book of all the deities names but he could not find HaShem's Name in it . Moshe and Aharon told Pharaoh That HaShem Is Beyond a book and denounces the false and fake deities of the nations in Pharaoh's book , For HaShem Is The One And Only True G-D . Pharaoh was no fool and knew of G-D , but not by the name " Ad-nai , " for his ancestors had known of " El Sh-dai " and so he said that he would not release the people for the three day journey in the wilderness . Pharaoh reprimanded Moshe and Aharon for disturbing the people from their work and Pharaoh ordered that now the brick tally of our people was to be the same but we would no longer be given straw , which was actually kept right near Pharaoh's Palace . Pharaoh ordered that the tally of bricks must remain the same and even ordered that the Levites , who had not worked before , must go to work too . The foremen of our people did not want to put our people in trouble and so they took the brunt of the blame themselves and they were aggressively beaten . For this reason Did HaShem Reward them to become leaders of our people in the Wilderness after we left Egypt . The Jewish foremen , after leaving Pharaoh's presence , after hearing that the tally was to be the same without being given straw to make the bricks and that we were to go looking for straw , encountered Moshe and Aharon and blamed them . HaShem Had Actually Asked Moshe to leave Egypt and return to Midyan as a test to us that we should have Faith In HaShem . Moshe returned To HaShem and blamed HaShem for doing this to the people and questioned HaShem why HaShem Had Sent him and not another . Moshe blamed HaShem for not rescuing the people and this counted against Moshe in the end . HaShem Said to Moshe , " Now you will see What I Will Do To Pharaoh , For Through A Strong Hand Will I Send them out , And With A Strong Hand ( Of HaShem ) , will he ( Pharaoh ) drive them from his land . " So ends the Parsha . This Parsha is called " Shemos " - " Names , " for it is at this very time in our history , that we make a name for ourselves , Acknowledged And Done At This Time By HaShem , for it is at this time that we become a people Unto HaShem , when we go to Har Sinai and we become HaShem's People . It is then that we did what no other nation who was offered HaShem's Torah did , we take G-D And His Laws . Thus , we made a name for ourselves , a name Connected With HaShem Forever . And how did we make this " Shem-ot " - " Name ? " By " Shema Ot " - " Listening To And Hearing " HaShem And HaShem's Commandments . It is then and only then that we are part of this " Shemos " - " Name , " for when people stray from Judaism , Chas Ve Shalom and leave the Faith and intermarry out of the Faith , Chas Ve Shalom , that Judaism is lost to that family line and The Name of that Jewish family line that was Jewish for centuries , is gone or gets lost as a Jew . So we , as a people , made our " Shemos " - " Name , " by becoming a people Unto HaShem and all that comes with that beautiful action of love . Only by following The Holy Torah Of HaShem that we and no other nation chose to accept , do we make a Jewish Name for ourselves . The other nations were offered The Torah first but they refused , all asking what was in it and finding something or some Law or Laws that they refused to keep or that did not agree with them . We on the other hand believed In HaShem in total faith and said " Na'aseh Ve Nishma " - " We will do ( first ) and then we will hear ( why ) . " We did not need to know what was in It first before trusting HaShem and having Faith and Emunah In HaShem , for we accepted It without asking what is in It . We straight away trusted HaShem and Accepted It with love . Thus we made a " Shemos " - " Name " for ourselves and each and every Jew keeps this " Name " as long as we keep The Very Holy Torah we all agreed Spiritually to accept and never let go of at Har Sinai . All Jews , those living at the time , those about to be born and those still to come , even many generations later , as well as righteous Gairim to come , all accepted it , so you , me and all of us Jews , were there accepting HaShem's Torah . Let us never break our word To HaShem And Bless And Thank HaShem Always For Making us A Holy Jew and forever show our gratitude By Following HaShem And HaShem's Holy Torah Always , letting HaShem Know that we thank HaShem For Making us a Jew and never straying From HaShem's Holy Torah , All HaShem's Commandments And HaShem's Love . Thank You HaShem Always for Giving me the opportunity to follow You As You Want To Be followed , for following Your Commandments And Your Holy Torah And For Giving me the life opportunity to Come Closer To You every moment of every day . The Shabbos Parsha is Parashas Vayechi . This Sedra speaks of the passing of our very Holy Fore - Father Yaakov Israel . Yaakov in this Sedra , Blesses his sons and also in this Parasha , his son Yosef is called upon to take care of Yaakov's arrangements . It is Yosef , after his beloved Father's passing that is to become the leader of that generation after Yaakov , which certainly fits this Sedra's Haftorah , which is to be found in 1 Kings 2 : 1 - 12 , which refers to the passing of Dovid Ha Melech and his son Shlomo becoming king after him . The Neshoma of Yaakov , seeing as Souls Migrate According To HaShem's Wish And According To What HaShem Deems that soul and the generation needs , was in Dovid Ha Melech , as was a the case with the Neshoma of Yosef's humble soul , also in Shlomo Ha Melech . The Spiritual bond between Yaakov and Yosef's Neshoma , goes right back to Gan Eiden and Adam Ha Rishon and his son Shais . Within Adam's Hebrew name is an Alef , Dalet and Mem , which shows the line down to Moshiach , where the Alef is Adam , the Dalet is Dovid and this line comes down to the Mem for Moshiach . In fact HaShem told Adam that his descendant Dovid , would pass away just after birth and so Adam who was to live a 1000 years gave up 70 years of his life , to give to Dovid , who passed away at 70 while Adam passed away at 930 years . So are the souls of Adam and Shais ( his son in his likeness ) , Yaakov and his son Yosef and Dovid Ha Melech and his so Shlomo , tied By deep love through time . No wonder Yaakov's love for Yosef went deeper than just a Father and son relationship , at the time . So Deep Is HaShem And So Beautiful Is HaShem's Torah . Yaakov Israel knew that his time was coming and he was the first to get ill before passing on and so he called for his son Yosef , knowing that Yosef would be in a position to get Pharaoh to allow Yaakov to be taken back to Canaan out of Egypt so that he could be buried with our Fore - Fathers and Fore - Mothers and so he had Yosef assure him that Yosef would have him buried in Canaan in the Cave of Machpelah near Mamre in Chevron , where Adam Ve Chava , Avraham and Sarah and Yitzchak and Rivka were put to rest . Yosef assured his Father , that he would do as his Father requested . Yosef did not spend that much time with his Father , for he was trying to avoid telling on his brothers for what they had done in selling him but Yosef's sons did spend time with their Grand-Father and it was them who informed Yosef that their Father was ill , so he took his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim at the advice of his wife Osnas and came to his Father . Yaakov assured Yosef that Yosef's sons would share in the inheritance in Eretz Yisroel just like the other sons of Yaakov . Yosef asked his Father why his beloved Mother Rachel was not buried in the Cave of Machpelah like the other Fore-Mothers but on the side of the road to Ephrath Beis Lechem . Yaakov explained to Yosef That HaShem Would one day in the future Take our people into exile in Bavel due to Avodah Zorah idol worship of some of the people and they would travel past that place where Rachel was buried and Rachel would thus be able to pray for us , her children , begging HaShem not to be angry that some of us had strayed just like she had not gotten angry that she gave her place to her sister in marriage to Yaakov , So HaShem Too Should Be Understanding And Forgive us And Bring us Out Of exile and because Rachel had been in such a position of giving her beloved Yaakov to her sister Leah , so could Rachel be the only one to ask Of HaShem the same kind of request to be understanding when sadly our attention was diverted From HaShem And So HaShem Accepted Rachel's prayers for her children - us Jews . Yaakov then wanted to bless Yosef's children so Yosef put his older son to Yaakov's right and his younger son to Yosef's left but Yosef saw that his Father Yaakov placed his right hand ( the hand that would usually go on the first-born son's head ) on the younger son's head and Yosef wanted to correct him but his Father Yaakov assured Yosef that he had a good reason out of fore - knowledge for what he was doing for Yaakov said that the younger one would become greater than the older one and this was in reference to Joshua Yehoshuah who would in the future come from the younger son Ephraim's line generations later . And so Yaakov blessed Yosef's sons with the same words we say to our children every Erev Shabbos , " May G-D Make you like Ephraim and like Manasseh , " thus putting Ephraim before Manasseh . This Blessing signifies that our people should be like Ephraim and Manasseh who lived among other nations in exile and yet still kept true to Holy Religious Judaism and never strayed . So may our children always be so and Keep Faithful To HaShem And HaShem's Holy Torah and never stray or follow the wrong paths of those around us , who wrongly follow incorrect ways and beliefs . G-D Is One ( Devarim 6 : 4 ) . Israel Yaakov informs Yosef that he is about to pass on And That HaShem Will after the time in Mitzrayim Bring us back to Canaan . Israel Yaakov gave Yosef an extra portion more than the other brothers , the place Shechem ( showing that deep down Yaakov knew what the brothers had done to Yosef , for it was that place that was connected to where Yosef was sold by his brothers ) that Yaakov had taken with his sword and with his bow when at the time of the incident after Simeon and Levi who had killed all the Shechemite men where their sister had been forcefully taken , the other nations came up in defence of the people of Shechem and Yaakov was forced to fight a war with them And With HaShem's Help , had won and so , Yaakov gave this area to Yosef . Then Yaakov called for his sons to give them his final Blessings From HaShem and he was just about to reveal to them the time of The End Of Days For The Shechinah Was Resting Above him But HaShem Did Not Want this time to be revealed or known and so , as Yaakov was about to reveal this , The Shechinah Lifted and so Yaakov was unable to complete his words of when that time will be . We also note that Yaakov wanted to tell us of The End Of Days starting with the words " Ha'asfu " - " Assemble yourselves , " which shows that one of the ways to bring Moshiach and usher in The End Of Days , is for our Jewish people to " Assemble , " in other words come together as one people under HaShem in obedience To All Of HaShem's Laws . This ' Coming together ' and getting rid of old strife , strictly Keeping To HaShem's Commandments , is one of the ways to bring Moshiach . Yaakov Israel then Blessed the Tribes . Reuvein was reminded of his Aveirah And How The Shechinah Was Disturbed , That Rested On that particular couch That Only The Shechinah Of HaShem Rested on and how Reuvein had moved that couch out of Bilhah's tent and into his own Mother Leah's Tent . Yaakov gives Reuvein a Blessing in disguise , which is that Reuvein will and can go far as long as he learns patience and not to be impetuous . Yaakov then refers to Simeon and Levi's actions in how they handled the Shechemite issue and that Yaakov's soul will not enter into their actions of violence . Yaakov refers to them murdering a people in reference to the Shechemites and maiming an ox in reference to Shechem and himself . This is also a hint to what these two brothers did to Yosef , who is referred to as a "strong boned ox " who keeps to HaShem's Commandments without wavering , even in exile , again showing that Yaakov knew without Yosef telling him what these two specifically had done to Yosef where Levi had been the one who said of young Yosef , " behold the dreamer comes " and Simeon had been the one who threw him into the pit . So Yaakov ensured that these two sons would be kept apart from each other not only in their travels as Tribes when we all came back from Egyptian slavery to Canaan , but also in Israel when the time came for the Land to be divided , for when these two Tribes get together they are ever so strong , as they were when these two , as small boys , wiped out the Shechemites single-handed . Yehudah is Blessed and noted as the leader of the Tribes as the Tribe of kingship like a lion and from this tribe will Mashiach come - noted as " Shiloh . " Wine and Milk referred to here refers to Mashiach and the Torah of Milk and Honey . When our children first read and learn HaShem's Holy Torah , we dab a little honey on their tongue to remind them That HaShem's Holy Torah should always be sweet on our tongues . Zevulun will be given those places on seashores to bring trade and wealth to his brothers and he and his brother Yissaschar , mentioned next , work together hand in hand where Zevulun toils while Yissaschar studies Torah and so , will each get the Kavod of both as if they are one , yet both will and are to study HaShem's Holy Torah . The people of Yissaschar bend themselves humbly To HaShem's Holy Torah And Will . Yaakov Israel Blesses Dan next and here , Yaakov sees in prophecy a man who , from this Tribe , will avenge his people against the Philistines and this man that Yaakov sees , is Samson Shimshon the Judge of Israel , who will be like a single serpent on the way , in other words one single man who will attack at the very enemy's foundation all by himself , a viper by the path as Shimshon was when he hid and waited for the enemy to walk past and the reference to the horse's heels and rider refers to how Shimshon killed so many by himself just with the jawbone of a ass / donkey . Yaakov ends his Blessing to this Tribe with words that show how salvation is still awaited From HaShem , for Yaakov fore-saw how this Shimshon , regaining his power From HaShem once his Nazarite hair grew again , how in his death would bring down 3000 Pelishtim in their colosseum of their fake false idol worship dagan deity , when he would push over the supporting pillars This sadly would be Shimshon's end too and so would Israel still need to await the Final Redemption . Gad , Yaakov Blessed from HaShem , with powerful fighting men who would overcome the enemy , for Gad's portion of territory would bring them into constant contact with Ammonite raiders . Asher , was Blessed with " kindly delicacies , " in connection with the abundance of olive oil in his region in Eretz Yisroel as well as spiritually beautiful women who would marry Kohanim . Naphtali is referred to as a " hind let loose who delivers beautiful sayings " and this refers to the incident that was to take place when Yaakov had already passed away and was being buried in the Cave and Eisav came along and claimed the site for himself and Naphtali , fleet of foot , ran quickly back to Egypt to get the title deed that it belonged to Yaakov and his side of the family . Yosef is then Blessed and Israel Yaakov , makes reference to Yosef's inauguration as he was led through the city in Egypt . Yaakov also makes mention of arrow-tongued men hating him , a reference to Yosef's brothers and also to the men of Egypt at the time Zulaicha and her friends and husbands made false accusations against him , their husbands joining in . Yaakov refers to Yosef's " bow being firmly emplaced and his arms gilded from the hands of the Mighty power of Yaakov " and this refers to the constant taunts of Potiphera's wife and how at the last moment of that last attempt of Zulaicha to entice Yosef , just before Yosef got accused , how Yosef held himself in check and did not fall and sin and how Yosef saw an image of the mighty Yaakov his Father that kept him at that moment from doing anything wrong . So would Yosef receive abundant Blessings . Yaakov then Blessed Binyamin as a " predatory wolf , " of how " in the morning devouring prey and in the evening , distributing spoils . " Here , Yaakov prophesies a reference to King Shaul a Benjaminite who defeated Moav , Edom and Philistia and it is also a reference to the happening of the Concubine of Gibeah in the book of Judges 19 and 20 ( Radak ) and of course to the coming of Mordechai and Esther , who were from the Tribe of Binyamin , who were HaShem's Servants against haman the amelekite and both rose there in Persia to high state . Yaakov Blessed the Twelve Tribes and the very fact that they were mentioned as Twelve Tribes again refers to their Holiness . Yaakov then again instructs them to make sure that he is buried back in Canaan in the Cave of Machpelah and so , sadly our beloved Fore - Father Yaakov Israel passes away . Yosef who wept deeply and heavily had his Father embalmed which our Rabbis believe was incorrect for trust should have been there That HaShem Would Keep Yaakov as he was . But Yosef had another reason for the embalming of his Father , which was that Yosef knew That HaShem Would Keep Yaakov's body intact and Yosef knew that the Egyptians would want to worship Yaakov as a deity , Chas Ve Shalom and Yosef knew that the Egyptians would not think That It Was HaShem keeping the body intact and thus Yosef did not want the Egyptians to see that Yaakov's body remained as it was , for then they might wrongly worship Yaakov and so Yosef covered his Father with the embalming , knowing That HaShem Would Preserve Yaakov's body . Even Egypt bewailed Yaakov's passing , where the passing of such a Holy Tzaddik leaves in its place an emptiness and lack of Blessing in its place , in that specific place , so was Yaakov fearing that Pharaoh might not let Yaakov's body leave Egypt and be buried in Canaan ( for Pharaoh knew that Blessing From HaShem had come with Yaakov's presence in Egypt ) , but Yosef assured Pharaoh that he had given his word to his Father to do this very thing and so , after Pharaoh first objected and Yosef reminding him of how Yosef had kept his word to Pharaoh before , never to reveal that Yosef knew one more language Hebrew , more than Pharaoh , so did Pharaoh consent to allow Yaakov to return to Canaan . Yaakov certainly did not want his body to be buried in Egypt , in the very dust there , that in the time of Moshe at the time of the Plagues in Egypt , that very dust would become lice . Yaakov also knew , as I just mentioned , that since his coming to Egypt had brought with it HaShem's Blessings , Yaakov knew that the Egyptians , being idol worshipers , may worship his body or his burial place , Even Though It Was HaShem Who Had Sent the Blessings , in Yaakov's Holy Honor and so Yaakov did not want such a thing to happen , not wanting to be buried there in such an unholy land . Yaakov wanted to be buried in the Holy Land where his Fore-Fathers were buried , standing up , ready to walk out of the Cave , at the time of Techiyas Ha Meisim - The Resurrection of the Dead . So Yosef and the brothers carried Yaakov all the way back to Canaan , also with a following of Egyptians . Yosef put his crown on the coffin . The place where they stopped for a solemn lamentation was Goren ha Atad . This name has a deeper meaning for it directly translates as ' Threshing floor of Brambles or Thorns ' and our Rabbis of Blessed memory teach us that it got this name because of all the 36 crowns that were put around the top of Yaakov's Coffin ( Talmud Sotah 13a ) that looked like thorns . Yosef had already put his crown on the Coffin . When the sons of Eisav , Ishmael and Keturah came to attack us at this very sad time and saw Yosef's crown on the Coffin , they all took their crowns and also put it on the Coffin , so was there 36 crowns on the Coffin and as Rabbi Abahu said , ' The verse teaches us that they surrounded Yaakov's Coffin with crowns , like a threshing floor which is surrounded with a hedge of brambles because the sons of Eisav , of Ishmael and of Keturah also came ... ' So was Yaakov Israel buried in the Cave of Machpelah and as I mentioned earlier , Eisav came at that moment and contested it . Chushim , Dan's deaf son saw the commotion that Eisav was making at such a holy time and struck Eisav to the point of death and Yehudah , struck the final blow . Eisav's head rolled into the cave but his body remained outside and was given to his family to bury on Mount Seir . So was their Mother Rivka's words fulfilled that she would be bereft of both of her sons on the same day ( Bereishis 27 : 45 ) . So was our last beloved Fore-Father buried in the Cave of Machpelah , A Great Light Was Gone From The World . After the passing of their holy Father Yaakov , Yosef's other brothers became afraid that now Yosef would really come down on them , for Yosef , dealing with the sadness of his Father's Passing and also not wanting to take the head place at a table with them over his other brothers , did not invite them as before , thus making them mistakenly worry and mistakenly misunderstand his actions and so they approached him making out that their Father had wanted him to forgive them . Yosef reassured them that he would still take care of them and would not hurt them and that he held no anger to them at all . Pharaoh passed away and Yosef stood in as ruler of Egypt for many years and Yosef saw three generations through his sons . Before he was about to pass away , Yosef asked his brothers that they must bring his bones out of Egypt and bring him back to Canaan when the Jews leave there after the time of slavery is completed . Yosef also told them that after the period of slavery in Egypt , HaShem Will Send a Redeemer who will be known when he speaks the words , " Pakod Yifkod , " ( Bereishis 50 : 24 ) - " G-D Will surely remember you " and so , Yosef passed away before his brothers at the age of One Hundred and Ten , ten years before he would have otherwise passed away , due to the fact that he did not stop his brothers when they kept referring to his Father being called ' servant ' ten times , when the brothers were before him as viceroy . The last brother to pass away in Egypt was Levi . Yosef was placed in a coffin and sunk to the bottom of the Nile , so that the Egyptians could keep his bones in Egypt , for the Egyptians believed his being there brought them blessing and blessings to the nile , Even Though All Blessings Come From HaShem Alone . So ends the Parsha and The First Book Of HaShem's Holy Torah Bereishis . This Parsha is called " Vayechi " - " Lived " although the Parsha is actually about the passing of Yaakov Israel and at the end of the Parsha , the passing of Yosef . So why then is such a Parasha that is about their passing , called " Vayechi " - " Lived / Living . " This is because a true and holy Tzaddik who is So Close To HaShem and who has become so Holy and Spiritual , continues on to greater Life and Holiness after their physical passing . Physical passing is yet another part of ' True Living ' and so is one reason why the the word " Vayechi " is used . The same was the case with the passing of Sarah . The passing of Yaakov was only a physical passing . The Neshoma continues Closer To HaShem , Growing Ever Closer To HaShem , Climbing Ever Higher Toward HaShem . Life is not what it seems . Physical Life itself , if we choose our choices Given By HaShem , wisely and Follow and Listen To HaShem And HaShem's commandments , is only a Pathway Toward Getting Closer To HaShem . When a person passes , only their physicality remains and returns To What HaShem Made it from and the term ' passes on ' becomes more apt for that is exactly what is happening . The person passes on from one way of being to the next , whether that be as a person again or as whatever HaShem Deems them to need to become so that they can continue to Spiritually grow . We see only a tiny minute picture of all things and so does ' True Life ' actually continue in all its Brilliance , Toward HaShem . The very fact of living is a step toward the time of Mashiach . We see this in the very first word of this Parsha " Vayechi , " which comes to 34 in Gematriah and 3 + 4 = 7 , the Gematrical value of Moshiach . Thus , when we live According To HaShem And HaShem's Commandments And HaShem's Ways , we continue to live beyond the physical existence of what we see , working toward becoming holier beings Coming Ever Closer To HaShem and so , By Following HaShem And HaShem's Commandments And HaShem's Holy Torah , we thus work to bring in Moshiach and usher in The End Of Days . Life is not about having value-less parties and a frivolous good time for the moment . These things have no long lasting or worthy value at all . True Life is truly using this Physical World as a preparation to earn our place in The Eternal Home Of Gan Eiden . So says Pirkei Avos , that the World we are in , is the antechamber to prepare ourselves to enter the banquet hall , of The Eternal World To Come Olam Habah . That is True Living , not just for the here and now , but Truly for Eternity . For True Life , Is Life With HaShem . That Is what we are all actually here for . To do otherwise , would not be ' living ' at all . Every moment of every day of every moment of every moment , Is A Gift From HaShem , To Gain True " Vayechi " - " Living . " Yaakov and our Fore-Fathers knew this . Now it is time for us to know it too . This Physical World Existence is your opportunity and mine From HaShem To Work Toward Olam Habah The World To Come and so this very working toward an Eternal Blessed Destination With HaShem , Is Really And Truly What Is ' True Living . ' Let us all stop wasting our lives That HaShem Gives us and from now on " Vayechi " - " Truly Live " For HaShem and so will we get " True Vayechi " - " True Life Eternal " In HaShem's Olam Habah Gan Eiden In Shamayim Heaven , Within The Beauty Of HaShem HaKadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . Today is the Fast of Tevet , being the 10th of Tevet . Chazal instituted Asoroh Be ' Teives for four calamities that took place on this date : - - Nebuchadnetzar , king of Bovel , laid siege to Yerushalayim - Those already exiled to Bovel got news of the destruction in Yerushalayim - The Holy Torah was translated into greek two days before , limiting its depth and helping the Hellenists grow - Ezra , the holy sage and prophet and Kohein Gadol passed away just the day before . ( Rabbi Chrysler Luach ) . Talmud Yerushalmi Yoma 1 , teaches that , " Any generation in which the Beis Ha - Mikdash is not rebuilt , is considered as if they had destroyed it . " ( The Book of our Heritage - Eliyahu Kitov ) . While our Beis Ha Mikdash Temple remains unbuilt , so is that generation unworthy for it to stand again . Being unworthy , is just the same as when It was destroyed at the time for not being worthy to have It , and thus , such a generation is like the generation that existed when It was destroyed . Our Gemorrah tells us that when HaShem Allowed the Temple to be destroyed , HaShem Rather Destroyed His House , rather than His People . We are told that the remaining Kohanim , went up onto the roof of the Temple and A Hand Appeared From Heaven and the Kohein handed over three the Keys of the Temple up to It and so , are the Temple Keys , In HaShem's Care . Each of us is responsible for doing our Torah Mitzvos and thus becoming worthy to have our Temple Rebuilt . To Have HaShem In our midst , we need to work very strictly on ourselves and make ourselves worthy , keeping Shabbos And All Of HaShem's Torah And Mitzvos . So today we Fast and remember these calamities and the much Holier Yerushalayim , in times of old . We also remember The Holiness Of our Torah Gift and how we must delve into It's Learning And Keep it Holy and Pure and stay away from other false beliefs , only keeping Faithful To HaShem , The One And Only G-D . We also remember the holiness of dearest Ezra the Scribe and Prophet , to whom , much of our Tefillos that we Daven today is ascribed to him . A Most Holy Tzaddik . So as we Fast today on Asoroh Be ' Teveis , may we plead with HaShem for forgiveness and may all Jews come to The Holy Light Of Torah and may all Jews look deeper into their Holy Traditions and remember our standing at Har Sinai and us all as a Nation , saying , " Na'aseh Ve Nishma " - " We will do and we will listen . " May we all work to and see the Rebuilding of our Holy Beis Ha - Mikdash - Our Holy Temple , Speedily In Our Days , With The Return Of HaShem's Holy Shechinah . The Shabbos Parsha is Parashas Vayigash . This Sedra features two great Tzaddikim of Judaism , Two Tribes of Israel , Yosef and Yehudah facing each other . The Haftorah for this portion is Yechezkiel 37:15-28 and also refers to Yehudah ( The Tribe of Yehudah ) and Yosef ( representing Israel ) , for later on in Jewish history , our people sadly separated into the Tribes of Judah and the rest of Israel after the rule of Shlomo Ha Melech's Son Rehoboam . At the End of Days May It Come Soon In Our Days , Israel will again become one nation , May HaShem Bring This Soon . This Parsha of Vayigash continues from the Sedra before where the brothers were brought back before Yosef and Binyamin was standing accused of taking the silver goblet belonging to Yosef . The goblet was purposefully placed in Binyamin's sack so as to test the brothers if they would stand up for and defend their younger brother Binyamin , the full brother of Yosef , both Yosef and Binyamin being born from Yaakov and Rachel . In this Parsha we see that the brothers do step forward to do the right thing this time , as Yehudah steps forward and " Vayigash " - " Approached " Yosef to plead for Binyamin , even being prepared to stand in for him as a slave . Yehudah makes a heart-rending plea for Binyamin , explaining how their Father Yaakov will have great sorrow if Binyamin does not return . Sadly and wrongly , while Yehudah is speaking to Yosef , Yosef lets their Father be referred to as his servant , on ten occasions , something that Yosef , even during his test of his brothers , should have corrected and not allowed and so Yosef , for those ten times that he allowed this , loses ten years of his life , passing away at one hundred and ten years of age . Yehudah made such a caring plea that Yosef could no longer restrain himself any more and so as not to embarrass his brothers , Yosef had everyone else leave the room putting himself in very great danger from his brothers who did not at that time realize it was Yosef that they were standing there with . Yosef stood up from his throne and took a step toward his brothers and asked them if they know where this long lost other brother was . They responded 'No . ' Yosef took another step toward them and said that he knows of this person they seek and they asked him where he is . Yosef responded that he had bought this ' Yosef ' himself as a slave and that this person now works for him . The brothers were astonished not knowing what to now believe , if this was another ruse . The Viceroy said that they should hold on and he would call for him and he went to his bell plate that always hung on the wall and banged on it , calling out ' Yosef , Yosef , Yosef ben Yaakov come out , ' while the brothers looked on and were silenced . Yosef called out ever louder in a louder voice as Egypt heard as did Pharaoh's household hear and Yosef stepped behind the wall and then returned without his crown and said " Do you recognize me ? " They did not , wondering if this Viceroy was either not too well , or again trying to trick them . The Viceroy then took a few more steps towards them and said " Do you not recognize the one whom you seek ? " They still did not . Yosef stepped right near them and removed his mouth cover , looking them directly in the face and with tears rolling down his face he called out " Ani Yosef " - " I am Yosef . " The brothers were silenced and totally surprised . This is what will happen at the End of Days when Moshiach comes , For HaShem Will Then Show Himself To all , even the doubters and those following false ways and will say " Ani HaShem " - " I Am HaShem " and those who followed false ways will be ashamed and cover their faces . The Brothers still were not sure , as before them stood an adult bearded man much bigger and stronger then they remembered him with a voice much stronger than they remembered him to have . He told them to come closer , asking about if his dear beloved Aba Yaakov was still alive but the brothers still wondered . When they came closer and looked into his soft Jewish eyes and he mentioned how the incident of his selling took place in detail and also the details of his selling , that only he could have known and details of the family and their births right back to Lavan , they then knew that they were looking again into the face of their long lost brother Yosef . They begged him for forgiveness and he being the Tzaddik that he was , comforted them and told them how it all happened for a reason that he had to be sent to Egypt so as to sustain them By HaShem And How It Was HaShem Who Sent Yosef there for a good reason and that they were to go up to Canaan and fetch our Father Yaakov and bring him to Egypt and not to fear , but to hurry and not delay and bring Yaakov to Egypt . The brothers and he wept and even Pharaoh and his household got to know that Yosef's brothers had come and Pharaoh organized wagons prepared and loaded to go and fetch Yosef's Father Yaakov . Pharaoh had to organize the wagons for he knew that honest and trustworthy Yosef would never take the wagons on his own , or use Pharaoh's property without Pharoah's permission . To Binyamin , Yosef gave much more clothing and silver than to the other brothers . It says twice that Pharaoh sent wagons where the second time it refers to Yosef having a hand in the sending . The reason for this is that the first set of wagons prepared by Pharaoh had deities carved on the wagons and Yehudah , refusing to have anything to do with idol worship , burnt them and so Yosef organized another set of wagons ( now knowing that Pharaoh would permit the wagons to be used ) . And so , Yosef's brothers went to fetch their Father Yaakov . As they approached home they feared surprising their Father suddenly with the news of Yosef so quickly and so wanted to break the news to their dear Father gently . As they approached their Father's Tent , Serach Bas Asher ( Serach the daughter of Asher , where Asher was one of the brothers ) was sitting outside with her harp-like instrument , playing it . They told her to go inside to her Grand - Father Yaakov and play and sing to him that Yosef was alive and well in Egypt . She did so and thus revived him and so her Grand - Father Yaakov blessed her for reviving him and with this Blessing , HaShem Gave Serach Bas Asher longevity to live a long life and enter Gan Eiden Alive . The brothers approached their Father and told him about Yosef but he still was very surprised until they related , As The Holy Torah Says , the words that Yosef had spoken to tell his Father , which were the words and lesson of the " Eglah Arufah " the last lesson that Yaakov had taught Yosef that day when Yaakov had sent Yosef to seek his brothers , which is the lesson of the man who is found murdered by the way and the closest town elders are brought to the scene where a ceremony is performed to assure and atone that there is no responsibility to that town for we are honour-bound to escort a guest in safety through the town and when that guest leaves that town . Only HaShem and Yaakov and Yosef could have known this fact of what Yaakov had taught Yosef that day and so , Yaakov's spirit revived and after his sons told him how Yosef is Viceroy in Egypt and most importantly that Yosef still righteously keeps to the Holy Jewish Traditions of our Fore-Fathers even in Exile - Yaakov described in the Torah , that keeping of Judaism is , as that " Yosef still lives . " Yaakov was not sure If HaShem Wanted him to go down ( down as opposed to down in Spiritual Level when traveling to Egypt , a place of lower level and missing in sanctity there ) And So HaShem Assured him to go there And HaShem Assured Yaakov That HaShem Would Then In Time Bring us out of Egypt . Torah Then enumerates the souls of ours that went down to Mitzrayim Egypt . If we count the names of those souls , it comes to sixty nine , Yet Torah Mentions That it is seventy souls that came to Egypt of Yaakov's family . The reason for this is that as the family of Yaakov arrived at the border of Egypt , ( where the sons of Yaakov respected their Father so much that they would not even have him on a wagon , but carried him personally all the way there ) , Levi's daughter Yocheved , the Mother of Moshe , Aharon and Miryam , was born just as they entered into the border of Egypt Mitzrayim . So while we were headed down into Egypt , HaShem Was Already Preparing our pathway out , With the birth of the Mother of Moshe , For It Was With HaShem's Help That Holy Moshe who would lead us out of Egypt and back to the border of the Holy Land . Also , HaShem Joined us To Fill the number , For HaShem Goes Down With His People The Jews into Exile . Yaakov sent Yehudah ahead to Yosef to prepare the way , which meant organizing a Mikvah and A Praying and Learning Centre . So must we as Jews always do likewise to ensure that wherever we stay , we ensure for our family and children a proper Torah education and a Place of Prayer which in days of old was always begun by first building a Mikvah . Pharaoh organized us to stay in Goshen , the place originally given by a previous Pharaoh to Sarah . Yosef had five sets of chariots ahead of him harnessed when he went out to meet his beloved Father for he did not want to shock his Father , but rather prepare Yaakov slowly for the meeting . Yosef sent his sons ahead on the chariots . Yosef walked to meet his Father and when Yosef approached his Father , Yaakov asked his sons who this was dressed so royally and regally looking with his face shining with holiness and they said that this is our Yosef . Yosef fell upon his Father and wept and our Rabbis tell us that Yaakov did not respond straight away For Out Of Thankfulness To HaShem , Yaakov first stopped to say The Shema and Acknowledge HaShem's Oneness . A most holy man like Yaakov , would always make sure not to let the time of hour for the Shema pass . How holy and ever Faithful is Yaakov . How very beloved is Yaakov . Yaakov noticed the holiness that still surrounded Yosef and again commented how " Yosef is ' still alive ' " in Torah Mitzvos . Yosef wanted to ensure that we keep separate from the Egyptians and thus keep to our Faith and not stray Chas Ve Shalom and so he instructed a few of his brothers that they will be brought to meet Pharaoh and are to say that they are cattlemen for he knew how Egypt , who uses the sheep as a deity , would thus keep separate from us . So he was trying to ensure our spiritual survival as Jews in exile separate from others around us and their idol worshiping ways . Yosef also wanted them not to mention that they were shepherds , for that would be abhorrent to Egyptians and Yosef wanted them to be allowed to stay in Goshen . But the brothers took faith in their hands and said outright that they were shepherds showing their Faith In HaShem . They spoke of sojourning in the land , for this exile would not be forever , thus the word ' sojourn ' and not stay permanently . Then Yosef brought his dear beloved Father to meet Pharaoh and next to Pharaoh was sitting the giant Og who we know from Avraham's time . Og at first wondered if this man Yaakov was actually Avraham as Yaakov at that time looked very old . Pharaoh turned to Og and asked him how come Og had said that Avraham had passed when here stood a man who looked like Avraham . It was then that Pharaoh asked Yaakov's age which was at that time One Hundred and Thirty , for Pharaoh wanted to be sure that this was not Avraham . Pharaoh was not used to seeing men at that time reach that age . Og now realized this was not Avraham but Yaakov who stood there . Yaakov commented about his hard life and made a comment that was thirty three words long about the hardness of his life and that his life had not reached the lifespans of his Fore-Fathers and so , his life was shortened by those very thirty three years and thus he passed away at One Hundred and Forty Seven , where his Father Yitzchak had reached One Hundred and Eighty years . Yaakov Blessed Pharaoh and from that moment of time of that Blessing , the Nile rose and watered Egypt and the famine lightened to an extent , but did not stop completely . All money that was collected during the famine , Yosef brought to Pharaoh . The people then had to sell their livestock to buy grain and then eventually they had to sell a part of their land and then , as Yosef had organized it , became serfs to Pharaoh and one fifth of their harvest would be Pharaoh's . The priests of Egypt never had to give up their land for Yosef never forgot their kindness to him in standing up for him in the incident of Potiphar and his wife Zulaicha and her false accusations . And so Israel Yaakov settled in the land of Goshen and " they acquired property in it and they were fruitful and multiplied greatly . " So ends the Parsha . Yosef never ever told his Father what his brothers had done to him and so , even Yosef had learned not to make reports to his Father anymore about the brothers , even if his intentions were pure at the time that he had done that . When we come clean and work on what we have done wrong and face up to our responsibilities , it is then that we can think , To Approach HaShem . This Shabbos Parsha is called " Vayigash " - " Approached , " where Yehudah approaches Yosef , but in reality when we have done something wrong , It Is To HaShem That we actually stand Before , even though what we might see is a ' human viceroy , ' It Is Always Before HaShem That We Are Always Standing . To truly change and do Teshuvah , we must not just give lip service . It takes a proper and full realization of what it is that we did wrong and a full and true intention to correct it and never do it again . For when we Approach HaShem , HaShem Opens Himself Up To us And ' Approaches us ' In Return . Life is for learning and every day is an opportunity to grow and become More Holy And Get Closer To HaShem . Every morning that we awaken And HaShem Returns our souls to us , It Is Also To Give us An Opportunity From Beloved Merciful HaShem , To " Vayigash " - " Approach " HaShem and grow Higher Spiritually In Holiness . Everything and all things that happen to us at every moment in our day are really very deep opportunities to grow In Holiness , if we only would look deep enough and close enough , for then we would notice what it is in that moment that we are to do to Spiritually and not just Physically grow . In each moment , is an opportunity to be good and kind And Follow HaShem Only and put aside our own personal wishes , So As To Put HaShem's Selfless Wishes First . That is True Living . The World and our lives are filled with these opportunities , if only we would look close enough for them . If we look at the first word of this Parsha " Vayigash " - " Approached , " we have the words " Va " and " Yah " and the first part of the word " Goshen " where we Jews ended up staying there in Egypt and where we left from , When HaShem Had Moshe lead us out of Egypt as we walked Toward Holiness and freedom and went home . According to Silverman's Hebrew English Dictionary , this word also is a part of the word ' Gashir ' ( which means ' bridge ' ) . So within the first word of this Parsha is also , when looking into the word deeper and putting all these words together , we get ' And Yah - HaShem Approaches us And Forms a bridge with us ' and even though , because of our wrong actions we may end up in Goshen in exile , we can be freed from this Physical World and can then enter Gan Eiden , if only we Obey HaShem Fully , thus " Vayigash " - " Approaching " HaShem Fully . Wherever we are , HaShem Will Approach us , if we are Pure and Obedient To HaShem . This also means not putting the wishes of other people Before HaShem's Wishes . If we can " Vayigash " - "Approach " HaShem in proper repentance and fully change the wrongs that we do , not doing them again or repeating them , Keeping HaShem's Torah Wishes And Doing What HaShem Wants and not what we or others want or like or feel is right , Then HaShem Will " Vayigash " - " Approach " us too and like a ' bridge , ' we will Join With HaShem In Harmony . This is what the brothers did and this is what Yosef as one of the brothers did , when they approached each other in caring . This too is what each and every one of us must do . Approach HaShem With Faithful Love And Obedience To HaShem's Will and not our will or others' will , Keeping All HaShem's Laws and never straying From HaShem's Way Or HaShem's Wishes . Then There Will Be Peace And Harmony Between HaShem And us and within Creation and then will we be Within The End Of Days , Where HaShem Will " Vayigash " - " Approach " us And Say " Ani HaShem " - " I Am HaShem . " When HaShem First Created Gan Eiden And Adam Ve Chava , HaShem's Wish Was To Walk With them In The Garden . How long Has HaShem Waited , in our time frame , To Walk With HaShem's Creation . HaShem So Wants our Closeness and Love . We are all in that time right now of the ' Pangs of Moshiach , ' the time of testing before Moshiach comes , when at this time we find our own personal struggles , a time that we need to and should use , to Cleanse and Correct ourselves . If we look around us at the World , we can perceive that things are reaching a certain point . We await The Final Redemption , May It Come Soon In Our Days . Within this word " Vayigash , " is the word ' Goshen , ' where we stayed during the period of the Egyptian Exile . It was from Goshen that we finally left the land of Egypt and went To HaShem's Love . So Goshen was the point before leaving Exile . So is this period we are all in right now where we await The End Of Days , where we can " Vayigash " - " Approach " HaShem's Closeness And Love . Just like the word ' Goshen ' is a stage to and part of attaining HaShem's " Vayigash " - " Approach " And Showing us HaShem's Shechinah At The End Of Days , so is this period we are all in right now , a part and stage toward The End Of Days , May It Come Soon In Our Days . Just as we Jews long ago left Goshen for " Vayigash " - " Approaching " HaShem And HaShem " Approaching " us , so may we all Come To HaShem and do HaShem's Holy Mitzvos and so , bring on the final " Vayigash " With HaShem " Approaching " us And Showing us His Most Ever Beautiful Essence , As HaShem Brings On The End Of Days With HaShem Ha Kadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . I wish Ever Most Beloved HaShem With Deepest And Sweetest Eternal Forever Love , A Beautiful And Peaceful Sweet Shabbos Kodesh With Eternal And Forever Love and to all of my fellow Jews and to all of Creation , a Blessed Beautiful and Peaceful Shabbos Kodesh With Love .

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Mikeitz . The Haftorah for this Parsha is 1 Kings 3 : 15 - 4 : 1 . Both the Parsha and the Haftorah talk of a dream . In the last Parsha , With The Help Of HaShem , Yosef had helped interpret the dreams of the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers and the Chamberlain of the Bakers and the Chamberlain of the Bakers was hanged , while the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers was restored to his former position . Yosef had asked him to remember Yosef , when the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers was restored to his position , but The Torah Tells us at the end of the previous Parsha That the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers " did not remember Yosef but forgot him . " The reason this verse repeats the idea of how he did not remember Yosef and also forgot him , was because the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers tried many ways to remember Yosef to mention what Yosef had done in interpreting the dreams , With The Help Of HaShem , trying to remember to tell the authorities and Pharaoh , but he kept forgetting . He even tried tying reminders around his wrist , fingers and arm , but still kept forgetting . We are told the reason that he kept forgetting , was because Satan came and kept making him forget and also removed the reminders he would put on his fingers , wrist and arm . And so , Yosef had to stay an extra two more years in prison . The Reason That HaShem Allowed this , was because Yosef was a Tzaddik and so , was judged much more harshly . Yosef , as a Tzaddik , should have rather had faith In HaShem To free him out , rather then try and rely on human help . For this reason , our Parsha this week , starts with Yosef two years later , When HaShem Was Ready To Free Yosef . So Yosef the Tzaddik , had to spend another two years in prison because he asked the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers to speak to Par'o Pharaoh for him so he could get free . All That HaShem Does , Is For our own benefit , even though it may not appear so at the time , for even though he had to spend that extra two years in prison , the time had to be right for Yosef's sudden rise to power, which would not have happened , had he come out earlier . He had already spent ten years in prison before the extra two years , where that ten years was to atone for each of the ten brothers that he had brought reports on back to his Father , a year for a brother report , so now the " Mikeitz " - " The Happening " which also has within it , the Hebrew word " Keitz " - " The End / Final Point " had arrived and Yosef was to suddenly rise to power . The day was Rosh HaShanah , When HaShem Judges the World , that Pharaoh had his dreams And So Did HaShem Judge That the Years of Plenty and then Years of Famine was to occur . We are told that Pharaoh had before , had minor dreams up to this point to do with this happening , but the day came " to the day " As The Torah States , that the History of the Jewish people was to make their prophesied occurrence , where it would result in Yaakov's family coming to Mitzrayim Egypt . Pharaoh dreamed that he was standing over the river , out of which came seven cows of beautiful appearance and robust flesh and they were grazing in the marshland, after which , seven more cows of ugly appearance and gaunt flesh came out of the river and they stood next to the other cows and then ate them . Pharaoh awoke and then fell asleep again and dreamed of seven ears of grain that were sprouting on a single stalk - healthy and good and then after them grew seven ears thin and scorched by the east wind , that swallowed up the healthy and full ears and then Pharaoh awoke . With these dreams , HaShem Had Given to Pharaoh the interpretation hidden within them and this true interpretation would only reveal itself for the correct interpreter's interpretation From HaShem , so Pharaoh would know who is interpreting for him correctly . The dreams also bothered Pharaoh , for at the time , the Pharaoh's were falsely thought to be deified and here , Pharaoh had to stand over the River and watch the happenings , yet was shown he had no control over anything , thus a blow and a showing of how he and all Pharaoh's are just human beings and that they did not create the Nile , unlike how they thought at the time . Here was G-D , The True G-D , Showing How Only He , HaShem G-D , Created the Nile And That Only HaShem Creates Creation and that no human , or man , is deified . Only G-D , Is G-D . Pharaoh called all his advisers and necromancers , but none could interpret the dreams for him , testing them , by leaving out parts of the dreams , to see if they would know the dreams , but none of them did . One adviser said that the dreams meant that Pharaoh would have seven sons and then seven daughters . Another spoke of a wonderful harvest of wheat and still another spoke of seven nations being beaten by Pharaoh and being forced to be under Egyptian rule , but that they would rebel . None of these interpretations were acceptable or true , for deep down , HaShem Had Given Pharaoh an inkling of the meaning and nothing that they said , matched this inner feeling That HaShem Had Given him . It was then that the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers remembered Yosef and told Pharaoh of what Yosef had done - With The Help Of HaShem , in interpreting his and the Chamberlain of the Baker's dreams and how they had come true , Only With The Help Of HaShem And Only Through HaShem . Suddenly Yosef was rushed from the prison and cleaned and shaved and dressed and brought before Pharaoh , to stand on the bottom of the seventy steps leading up to Pharaoh's throne . Yosef gave Credit To HaShem , Who Is The True Interpreter Of dreams , For all things Come From HaShem , Who Makes all things . Pharaoh tested Yosef by saying that he , Pharaoh was standing on the bank of the river and Yosef corrected him by saying that ' No , but you were not standing on the bank of the river , but you were standing over the river . ' Pharaoh asked Yosef how he knew this and if he had been standing behind Pharaoh while he ( Pharaoh ) dreamed , but Yosef again gave Correct Credit To HaShem . From HaShem , Yosef related to Pharaoh that there would be seven years of plenty followed suddenly by seven years of terrible famine and that Pharaoh should appoint someone to organize grain for the years of famine , during the years of plenty . The fact that there were two dreams similar , Showed That HaShem Would Hasten its happening , for it stood ready to take place . Pharaoh knew this was the true interpretation , for as I mentioned , HaShem Had Implanted within Pharaoh's dream , it's interpretation , To Reveal itself only for Yosef . From one moment being a prisoner , to suddenly be brought before Pharaoh and win his favour By HaShem , happened not a moment too late or too soon , from when it was supposed to . Yosef's sudden rise to fame , happened in it's time , with not a single moment more to wait , thus the suddenness with which he was brought before Pharaoh . This will be just like the coming of Moshiach , though he tarry , At The Time Of HaShem Sending him , it will happen very quickly in its time , like a flood , when the time of the " Keitz " - " the Final Moment " comes - thus the Word " Miketz " - " The Happening in its time . " Pharaoh wanted to appoint Yosef Viceroy of Egypt , but Pharaoh's advisers objected , saying that he is a Hebrew and a slave . Pharaoh answered them that Yosef does not appear to be a slave , but is of obvious cultured and well mannered stock , Kavod to Yosef's Father Yaakov and Grand - Father Yitzchak and Great Grand - Father Avraham . The advisers to Pharaoh still objected that a viceroy must know all seventy languages . HaShem that night sent the Malach Angel Gavriel ( the only Angel to also know Aramaic ) , to teach Yosef all the languages of the nations . To aid and assist Yosef , HaShem Added a ' Hey ' Letter From His Own Name to Yosef's name , so it could also be ' Yehoseif ' and so did Yosef learn all the languages and then appeared before Pharaoh and the advisors the next morning . Yosef starting on the bottom step , had Pharaoh talk to him in each language and as Yosef answered in that language , Yosef would climb a step per language he answered in to Pharaoh ( who also had to know all the languages , in order to be Pharaoh ) , until he , Yosef , had climbed all seventy steps and stood directly before Pharaoh , who made him Viceroy of Egypt and gave him a name " Tzafnas Pa'neach " - " He who explains what is hidden / Revealer of hidden things . " According to the Zohar , this was Ordained By HaShem , so that when Yosef's brothers would come before him , they would not know his name is Yosef . Yosef knew one more language more than Pharaoh , the language of Hebrew , for no matter how Pharaoh tried to learn it , he could not grasp it for it was too holy for him ( for he was filled with Tum'a Impurity ) and Yosef had to assure him that this fact that Yosef knew one more language more than Pharaoh , Yosef would not reveal . Pharaoh handed Yosef his ring and Pharaoh only outranked Yosef by the throne . He dressed him in fine linen , put a gold chain around his neck and set him on the royal chariot , appointing him over all of Egypt . Pharaoh also gave him Osnas as a wife , who still wore Yaakov's family emblem as a pendant around her neck , for though she was adopted by Potiphar and Zulaicha , she was originally Yaakov and Leah's grand-daughter , daughter of Dinah and Shechem . As Yosef was being taken through the city on royal horseback , the females above tried to get the attention of the new viceroy , but Yosef only looked up toward Heaven , thanking and blessing HaShem . It was then that Osnas threw down to him her pendant and looking up at her , knew her and who she was , for when Yosef was younger and living with his Father Yaakov , Yosef and Asenath ( now Osnas ) had often sat and spoken to each other by streams and in the open field , as he taught her Of The Sweetness Of HaShem's Light in the Creation of Life of all of Creation . Asenath was treated at the time in her youth , as a bit of an outcast , having been the daughter of the union of Dinah and Shechem and so , Yosef took it upon himself to watch over her and remind her of her holy value . Yosef was thirty years of age when he stood before Pharaoh . Pharaoh had a throne made for Yosef of pure gold and silver , with a picture of the Nile River engraved on it . As HaShem Had Shown Yosef and so had Yosef related , the years of abundance came swiftly . Yosef had told Pharaoh that the dream was a " single one . " By referring to the dream as a " single one , " here again , With HaShem's Help , Yosef had shown that by the very fact that it had become a " single one , " it showed and he was telling Pharaoh , that they were actually two separate dreams and coming one after the other as one single dream , even though Pharaoh had not directly told Yosef that they were two separate dreams and that Pharaoh had awoken in between . The very fact that they were two separate dreams showing the same things , This Showed HaShem's Urgency To Fulfil HaShem's Word To Pharaoh and so after the years of plenty , in which Yosef had stored one fifth away for the years of famine , while people still had food on their table and as the years of Famine started instantly , that food rotted and devastation and hunger became the state of the day . People hungered and came to Pharaoh for grain , but Pharaoh told them to go to Yosef . Yosef told them that he would give them grain only if they praise HaShem and if some even circumcise themselves . Yosef's hidden reason for requesting this , was that he prophetically was shown that we would end up in Egypt and Yosef did not want us to lose our keeping of this Law of circumcision , so Yosef thought that it would be easier if those around us did too . The people complained at what Yosef asked for and they went to Pharaoh saying that Yosef wants ' outrageous things . ' Pharaoh questioned them as to what Yosef had asked them to do and when hearing what it was , reminded them That If Not For HaShem and Yosef , they would not have any food at all and so they must listen to Yosef . Yosef had two sons with Osnas , Manasseh and Ephraim . Yosef knew that his brothers would eventually come to Egypt to buy grain , knowing that even there in Canaan , the famine struck , so Yosef instituted certain laws to ensure that they would be brought before him . All who bought grain , had to come themselves and were not allowed to send a servant or messenger , thus ensuring that the brothers would have to come personally . All who bought grain , would only be allowed to carry one donkey - carrying amount per person , thus ensuring that all his brothers would have to show themselves . All who came to Egypt to buy grain, would have to give details of their name and their Father's name and from where they came , so that Yosef , who requested every night the list of incomers , would straight away notice his brothers arrival . All who bought grain , were not allowed to sell it as a business , but could only buy it straight from Egypt , thus ensuring that his brothers would have to come directly . The Parsha says that Yaakov perceived that there were provisions in Egypt . That is a very hidden way to put it . The reason for putting it this way , is that Yaakov never lost hope that he would find Yosef again and so , the word for " Provisions " - " Shever " also means " Hope , " thus pointing to a hope that the brothers might find Yosef , who might have ended up there . So the brothers were sent to Egypt to buy grain , where Yaakov told them to try to look for him there , but to separate and enter through different gates when they would go over the border and make a search for him . Every night after his day's work , Yosef would ask for the list of incomers to be brought to him , to peruse . One night , while reading through them , Yosef noticed that through different gates separately , were the names Reuvein ben Yaakov , Levi ben Yaakov , Simeon ben Yaakov and all his brothers names , entering through separate gates and looking around the city in different areas . Yosef knew what they were doing , that they were searching for him , but decided to accuse them of being spies , as this is what spies do . They were all caught and brought before him . Yosef recognized them , but they did not recognize him , as he was now a grown strong man with a beard and part of his face covered and a different name , the name that Pharaoh had called him , which was " Tzafnas Pa'neach . " He accused them of being spies over and over again . He put them in a ward for three days and no matter how they asked to be released , they were not let out . They remembered what they had done to their little brother Yosef , who cried and begged them to release him and to please not send him away and now , they knew that they were paying for that sin . Yosef did not do any of this out of malice , but wanted to test them to see if they had changed and if they would finally stand up for Rachel's other son Binyamin , when Binyamin would eventually be brought before Yosef . Yosef had the brothers released and only kept back Simeon and told them to return to their Father and bring back Binyamin , to prove that they were not spies . It was Simeon , who had thrown Yosef in the pit as a boy . Reuvein reminded his brothers that he had warned them not to hurt Yosef and now they were all paying for what they did . They were forced to return home without Simeon , for Yosef had told them that he would release Simeon when they returned with Binyamin , so as to ' prove that they were not spies . ' Yosef had their money returned to their sacks and it was Levi who first had the worry and heart-ache of being the first one to find the money returned , thinking a charge would be levelled on them , for it was Levi who had said , when Yosef was a boy at the incident of them selling him , " Ah behold the dreamer comes . " Yosef was actually giving them all a spiritual opportunity to atone for what they had done . When they returned to their Father , Yaakov never let them go with Binyamin , even when Reuvein offered to have his two sons slain if he let his Father down Chas Ve Shalom , but still Yaakov never let them take Binyamin , reprimanding them for telling this Viceroy so much , that they had another younger brother . They spoke up and said that this Viceroy seemed to know spiritually a lot about them and how should they know not to tell him that there is another brother , that this Viceroy would ask for him to be brought down there too . The brothers told their Father Yaakov how much this Viceroy seemed to know about them . This Viceroy told them he could foresee their births and what wood was used in their baby cradles , what their habits were and even what each one liked and did not like . The brothers told their Father how this Viceroy had told them that they are searching for a relative in Egypt and that was why they entered different gates and that if they might have looked hard enough and close enough , they may have found him . The brothers did not tell their Father how this Viceroy had said that they had once committed an act against a relative and that he ( this Viceroy ) seemed to know their wrong . The one thing Yosef did not fully consider , was how much anguish this new worry to Yaakov of keeping Simeon back and would cause his Father Yaakov and that Yosef would want to see Binyamin before releasing Simeon , might cause Yaakov and for all the time that this anguish would hurt Yaakov . This caused Yaakov very much pain and anguish and Yosef was truly sorry for this , for surely Yosef never meant to cause his dear and very beloved Father , any pain or anguish . May HaShem and Yaakov forgive Yosef for this and Bless Yaakov with many Brochas , for each moment of anguish Yaakov ever suffered and felt . The grain that the brothers had brought back from Egypt dwindled and their Father Yaakov again asked them to go to Egypt to go and buy more grain but they refused , saying that they would only go if Binyamin would go too . Yehudah assured his Father that he would personally guarantee him and only then did Yaakov allow them to take Binyamin and go . Yaakov told them to take the returned money back to Egypt , a letter to the Viceroy pleading to let Binyamin and their other brother ( meaning Simeon , but also prophetically meaning Yosef ) go and also a tribute of things from Canaan as a gift . The Brothers returned to Egypt and again came before Yosef . This was now the fulfilment of Yosef's dreams with them . When Yosef saw his younger brother Binyamin , the son of both his Mother and his Father , he asked that preparations be made to dine with him in his palace , which Pharaoh had built him for three running years . The Brothers returned the double money they had brought back , to Yosef's son ( not knowing it was Yosef's son ) and were put to wait for Yosef to return home . Yosef had food prepared in the Kosher way and the brothers were amazed . Yosef held up his silver cup and pretended to look into it and so , place set everyone at the table from oldest to youngest . Yosef said to Binyamin ' do you have any children ' and Binyamin responded yes and that he had children and that he had named all his children in a way that had a hidden connotation to the dear beloved brother of his , Yosef that he had lost . It was then that Yosef could no longer contain himself and he had to leave the room to weep . He returned and asked Binyamin about his Mother and Binyamin told him that she had passed away . Yosef responded that seeing as he also had no Mother , they would both sit together . Then they ate . The brothers were forced to eat a meal with anxiety , wondering what charges may be brought on them . This was a punishment and an atonement that Yosef was trying to give them for the meal that they had sat down to eat , straight after they sold Yosef . Yosef purposefully had Binyamin served a portion five times the portion of the other brothers , to test them if they had gotten over their jealousy issues . Yosef left the table and returned shortly afterwards with an astrology chart , asking Binyamin if he was able to read it and Binyamin said that he could . Yosef asked him to study it closely and to see if he could work out where his lost brother was . Binyamin was shocked to see that his beloved brother Yosef was sitting right next to him , but Yosef quickly took him aside , Yosef putting his finger on his own mouth as if to motion to Binyamin not to say a word and so , Yosef revealed himself to Binyamin and told Binyamin that he would now test the brothers but not to say anything or let anything on , of what was being done to test them . The Brothers spent the night there . Yosef told his son to prepare for them to leave early in the morning and to put Yosef's silver goblet in the sack of the youngest one . They were then followed , caught up with and the search made , with the goblet being found in the youngest one's sack , thus forcing them to return to Egypt . Yosef told them that only Binyamin must be the one to stay and be a slave and that the others could go . It was then , that one of the Brothers Yehudah , stepped forward and spoke to Yosef and this is where this Parsha ends . Ever so deeply and sweetly , in this Parsha , do we see The Holy Hand Of HaShem . HaShem Knows the exact time that things need to happen and this is In HaShem's Own Time - And HaShem's own " Ketz " and not before it . So When HaShem Chooses When that time is the right time , then all that follows it , comes like a flood . HaShem Is The Only One Who Knows every tiny and minute detail And HaShem Is The Only One Who Knows When that Right Time Will be . Only HaShem Can See the full picture And Only HaShem Is All Knowing And All Seeing . To be worthy to behold HaShem's Shechinah , we need to be Totally Pure and Totally Holy . Just like the purity of the one single drop of Olive Oil that is squeezed from that very first squeeze of each olive , that is the only pure un sedimented drop of Olive Oil that is worthy to light the Menorah . So must we be the same , squeezed with tests of Holiness and pure of heart and soul , In The Service Of HaShem Ha Kadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . Our Haftorah , is of the Wisdom Given by HaShem To Shlomo Hamelech . In the Haftorah , two women appear before King Solomon , both claiming the remaining child is theirs . When the first one started to speak , she spoke with respect and purity and modesty and when she addressed the King , she humbled herself , referring to herself as the King's maidservant - " your maidservant " ( 1 Kings 3 : 20 ) , thus showing her humility and modesty , while the other woman was brash . The first woman also modestly said that it was only them in the house ( verse 18 ) , which showed the King her confidence and honesty that she felt quite confident in her own truth , to be saying that there could not have been anyone else but them , thus showing her own innocence . The very humility and moral respect of the first woman and the very brashness of the second woman , already told Shlomo Ha Melech , whose child it was , but to make sure , he tested them with the sword and with his Wisdom From HaShem , as for sure , the real Mother would care more for her child's life , then for herself and so , With The Help Of HaShem , the true Mother was revealed . Such is the purity and modesty of the true followers Of HaShem . Our people are to be a holy people , Faithful and Humble To HaShem , just as Shlomo Ha Melech was humble , as was Yosef humble and faithful To HaShem . True Tzaddikim , Show HaShem's Light To the World . Even when Shlomo Ha Melech built the Temple , he built the windows smaller on the inside and larger on the outside , To Show How HaShem's Light Spreads Outwards As It Must Do With us . Each one of us Are HaShem's Messengers and we are each and all , to let That Holy Purity Spread Outwards To the World . We are always to be pure and if we keep ourselves pure , just as Yosef kept himself pure in the impure surroundings of Egypt , HaShem Can Then Bring the " Ketz " - " The End Of Days , " that we all await , for when This Holy Time Comes , it will just like in this Shabbos Parsha with Yosef " Mikeitz , " - " Happen and Suddenly Come like a flood . " If we all obey HaShem and rid ourselves of foreign ways and beliefs , Following Only In The Footsteps Of HaShem And HaShem's Holy Torah , then we can usher in This Final Time Of The ' End Of Days . ' HaShem Waits every day And every moment To Bring On The End Of Days , The " Ketz , " but by our wrong actions and by those who do not follow HaShem And HaShem's Holy Torah And Laws and by those who stray , Chas Ve Shalom , we are delaying the Time , The Ketz , Of The End Of Days With HaShem . If one Jew goes away from Judaism and Torah , it affects us all and delays the Time of Redemption. If just one Jew shuns A Torah Way Of life , The Way Of HaShem's Will , that affects us all . One Jew that does not keep Shabbos , can hurt another Jew even far away . Each Jew , as our Tradition Teaches , is responsible one for another . We are all one . We are all HaShem's Creation and so , must learn to behave like it . Yosef , a very holy man , would not in any way , no matter what test was put his way , stray from HaShem's Will . Even though Yosef was in Galus Exile , he still Kept To HaShem's Laws . Yosef's sons did too . In fact , when we bless our children on Shabbos , we bless them to be like Ephraim and Manasseh who , even though they grew up in a non Jewish environment , never forgot who they were and continued to Follow The Tenets Of HaShem for our people , not letting themselves be tempted away from Holy Torah Yiddishkeit Judaism , for our Forefathers kept The Holy Torah instinctively , even before it was given to us on Har Sinai . For HaShem And HaShem's Instructions , we are to stay strong In Torah Yiddishkeit Judaism and so warrant and deserve the " Mikeitz Ketz " - " The Happening of the Final Days , " at The End Of Days . The World today is similar to how it was in Yosef's day , in the wrong temptations to other false beliefs and wrong faiths , which were plentiful then as they are now . Let us remember That HaShem Rewards those who are Faithful to Him , Just As HaShem Did With Yosef And Just As HaShem Will Do With us . This being just a few days after Rosh Chodesh Teves and a few days into the New Hebrew Month of Teves , it is a good time to change , as is any . On Rosh Chodesh , we Jews are as a people renewed , as the New Moon is renewed and so , Rosh Chodesh and the first few days afterwards , is as good a time as any time , to renew our Faithfulness And Love Of HaShem And His Laws Faithfully kept Al Pi Ha Torah . So let us all work together , as Yosef did , to stay Faithful and True to Judaism and shun foreign ways and beliefs , like the foreign beliefs that the Chashmonayim shunned and fought against , in the time of the hellenists , which the Festival of Chanukah reminds us of , which we have just celebrated , where the Purity of Pure Olive Oil , like the Purity of Faithfulness In HaShem Alone As The One And Only G-D And Creator , Teaches us , To Stay Faithful To G-D and to shun all foreign ways and beliefs and so , to work together to bring on the " Miketz Keitz , " - " The Happening of the End Of Days , " May It Come Soon In our days , With HaShem Ha Kadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . I wish Ever Most Eternally Forever Beloved HaShem With The Very Deepest Of Love , A Very Sweet And Beautiful Shabbos Kodesh With Everlasting Love and to all my fellow Jews with love , A Blessed Beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love . Parashas Vayeishev Chanukah :- Our Parsha this Shabbos Chanukah is Parashas Vayeishev . The last Parsha finished on the subject of Eisav's descendants and so this Parsha continues with Yaakov's descendants , focusing on Yaakov and Rachel's son Yosef . Seeing as this Shabbos also comes on the Second Day of Chanukah , we also read as the Maftir , Bamidbar Numbers 7 : 18 - 23 and the Haftorah for this Shabbos Chanukah is Zechariah 2 : 14 - 4 : 7 and connects with Shabbos Chanukah by referring to the Menorah . Yaakov " Vayeishev " - " Settled " in the Land where his Father and Grand-Father sojourned , in the land of Canaan . This Parsha refers to Yosef being seventeen years of age . It was about this time that Leah passed away and seeing that Yosef's Ima Rachel had passed away at the birth of Binyamin , Yosef was actually raised by Bilhah , Yaakov's other wife , linked to Rachel . Torah refers to Yosef as a "Youth with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah , " for Yosef used to be closer to the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah , as the sons of Leah , except for Reuvein , used to talk down to Bilhah and Zilpah's sons , referring to them as 'sons of the maid , ' so Yosef being the kind of Tzaddik that he was , put his time more to the looked -down - upon sons of Yaakov . Torah Refers to Yosef as a " youth " in reference to his teen years being cognizant of his appearance . Torah Says that Yosef used to bring " Es Dibatam Ra'ah " - " Evil Reports " about his brothers . Not that Yosef was Evil , but his intention was that they be Tzaddikim and he reasoned that reporting them would give the opportunity for them to be corrected and grow into Tzaddikim . His reports were not based on fact , but rather on his opinion of what he thought he was perceiving . As an example , he once witnessed his brothers eating from an animal and because the animal , even though it had been shechted , still quivered , he mistakenly perceived that they were eating from a living animal which they were not . There are certain Halachic rules regarding this and what they did , did not go against strict Halocha , though he perceived it wrongly . Another time there was a question about the animal's unborn within it and there again , he doubted their correctness and so , with other instances , did he misunderstand what he saw and reported them to his Father , again not for the reason of malice , but with pure intentions that they be taught the right way . He should have approached them himself , but he reasoned that due to their ill feelings towards him , they would not listen anyway . Torah Says that Yaakov loved Yosef more than all the sons since he was a " Child of his old age . " Though this may sound self-explanatory , there is certainly a deeper meaning here . Yosef would stay home learning , unlike his brothers and seeing that Yaakov was aging , Yosef would put himself out to look after his Father and be a physical support to lean on and so does Torah refer to Yosef as a son of Yaakov's old age . Also , Yosef was a soul very much like his Father , the two looking alike and having similarities in their life-course , like both having a brother or brothers that hated them , both dreaming holy dreams , both marrying women away from their birth-place , both having A Total Immersed Love For HaShem And For HaShem's Laws And Learning and both Yaakov and Yosef , being connected with the woman Yaakov loved most , Rachel . Also , Yaakov knew what it felt like when his Father put Eisav as First-born , though Yaakov was the holier and so , Yaakov did make sure this would not happen again and so was Yosef accredited for his holiness and made the favourite , though this was a mistake to the others . So to inaugurate Yosef's holiness , Yosef's Father did something for Yosef that would appear as though Yosef was being made higher , for Yaakov made for Yosef a " fine woollen tunic . " Such things in that day and age were usually worn by royalty or by those who were put in a high position above others and so the other brothers hated Yosef as if he was being put over them . Torah Says that they could not speak to him peaceably and some of them did not even speak to him at all , for as Tzaddikim , they could not be false and hide their dislike for him with sweet false words and they rather did not speak to him at all . Yosef dreamed a dream and he told his brothers , not in order to boast , but hoping they would respect him more and love him more . He dreamed that they were binding sheaves in the middle of the field and Yosef's sheaf arose and remained standing and his brother's sheaves gathered around and bowed to his sheaf . This was actually a future prophecy for later on his brothers did come before him when he was viceroy of Mitzrayim . His intention was not a bad one , but they hated him even more , wrongly thinking that he was after ruler - ship , which he was not at all . He then dreamed another dream , where this time the sun and moon and eleven stars bowed to him . Again , this was not his own doing , but prophetic , for eleven of his brothers would in the future stand before him when he would be viceroy in Egypt . Yosef related it to his brothers alone first and then to his Father and Brothers again and his Father scolded him , not because his Father did not understand Yosef's holiness , but Yaakov tried to play it down so that the brothers would not be so angry at Yosef . Yaakov knew it was prophetic , for Yosef's dream had referred to Yaakov as ' the sun ' a word That HaShem Had Called Yaakov when he had the dream of the ladder , so Yaakov knew this dream Was From HaShem . The moon, was in reference to Bilhah who raised Yosef , for Yosef's Ima Rachel had so very sadly passed on . Yosef's brothers hated him even more . Yosef's brothers had gone to pasture their Father's flocks in Shechem and Israel Yaakov called his son Yosef to go and check on their welfare and the welfare of the flocks and so Yaakov sent Yosef from Chevron to Shechem . On the way , Yaakov taught Yosef the Law of the Eglah Arufah , the Law of the man who is a stranger and visitor to a town and is found killed near but outside the town and no one knows who killed him and what the closest town does . That would be the last time Yaakov would see his son for as many years as Yaakov went away from his Father . Torah Tells us how Yosef could not find his brothers and came across a man in the field . This man was actually the Malach Angel Gavriel who told him , " They have journeyed on from here , for I heard them saying ' Let us go to Dothan . ' " This was actually a hidden warning to Yosef meaning that his brothers had now ' emotionally gone far away from brotherhood towards him and have journeyed on to Dothan , ' where Dothan is from the root " Dat " which means ' to judge ' in other words they have gone to sit in judgement against Yosef . Yosef knowing in the beginning when his Father asked him to go , that his brothers hated him , could have said no , but being a Tzaddik , he obeyed his Father and said , as his Great Grand-Father Avraham used to say to HaShem , " Hineini , " - " Here I am , " ready to do Your Bidding HaShem , no matter what the cost , I trust You HaShem . The brothers saw him from afar and wanted to Judge him as to be killed Chas Ve Shalom and Levi said , " Look , the dreamer comes . " Simeon was the one who said to kill him and throw him into one of the pits and say a wild beast killed him . Simeon knew full well that these pits contained snakes and scorpions as Simeon had once had a previous encounter almost falling into one of these pits and almost getting bitten . Reuvein the eldest , knowing he had lost the First-born right to Yosef , still wanted to try and save Yosef and so he intervened . Reuvein said that he should not be killed , first intending to rescue Yosef from their hands and then return him to his Father . They stripped Yosef of his fine woollen tunic , beat him and threw him into one of the pits . Ishamaelites came with spices and it says that Midianite traders bought Yosef , for Yosef was sold from one set of travellers to another , a few times , before he got to Egypt. The Midianite traders who first bought him , did not at first believe such a handsome and pure looking person as Yosef could be these men's slave boy , but again Simeon spoke up and a bill of sale was written out as a guarantee that they had a right to sell him . Ishmaelites usually travelled this route from Gilead to Egypt to sell their spices and wares and so was Yosef brought to Egypt , crying and longing for his Father and his home . Reuvein had left to go and pray , as he did day and night , repenting for his Aveirah of disarranging his Father's Couch and when he returned , he found the pit empty and Yosef gone and so he asked , " where can I go , " in reference to him ( Reuvein ) being the First - born and losing that position to Yosef , because of Reuvein's Aveirah and so wondering that if now Yosef is gone , what position is Reuvein now in level spiritually thinking he might go lower now spiritually , even though it was not his fault and also that he felt responsible now for coming back and not finding and being able to save Yosef . The brothers slaughtered a goatling in the proper way , thus a middah knegged midah against Yosef who questioned their shechting methods and they dipped Yosef's tunic into it's blood and brought it to their Father and Yehudah handed it to their Father and Yehudah said similar words to his Father that Yaakov had said to Yitzchak when going to his Father to get the Blessing instead of Eisav , so middah knegged middah , those words returned to Yaakov . Yaakov rent his garments and did not stop mourning for his son . Yitzchak was at this stage around 168 years of age . After the sons had sold Yosef , they sat down to a meal , fully believing that they judged him correctly . This Aveirah was carried over the centuries and punishment exacted from us at the time of the Romans when the famous Ten Jewish martyrs were executed . This we read about in the Service of Yom Kippur . Yosef was changed many times from traders to traders , who finally brought him to Egypt . A man by the name of Potiphar saw him and personally desired him and so Potiphar bought him only after seeing the right of sale contract signed by the brothers ( not knowing that they were Yosef's brothers ) . The name ' Potiphar , ' comes from ancient Egyptian dialect from the word ' Potiphara ' and translates to ' Mutilated one , ' for after a disease that he had when he dared to desire Yosef for his own debased wishes , Potiphar was punished with ending up like a eunuch . Torah describes Potiphar as " Seris Par'o , " where the word " Seris " can also refer to being mutilated as a eunuch . HaShem Sees All and so one of the brothers Yehudah would have been listened to , if he would have told the other brothers not to do this to Yosef , but he said nothing and also gave his Father such pain in being the one to say to his Father when bringing Yosef's tunic with blood , " Identify if you please " and so was he punished straight away by also losing his own sons and being kicked out by the other brothers , for the brothers saw that their Father was inconsolable and so they blamed Yehudah for not stopping them . So Yehudah moved away from them , or as some Rabbis say , was chased away . HaShem Juxtaposes the story of Yehudah among the happenings in The Holy Torah of Yosef , To Also Teach us That HaShem Always Punishes For wrongs done , In HaShem's Own Time That HaShem Knows Best . Torah Tells us that Yehudah " Went down from his brothers " and turned to an Adullamite man Hirah and there met and married the daughter of a prominent Canaanite , though many Rabbis and Onkelos translate the word K'na'ani as merchant . If she was a Canaanite , it might explain one of the reasons she and her two out of three sons had to die , for we , as a people are not to marry Canaanites . Three sons were born to Yehudah and this woman , Er , Onan and Shelach . Yehudah took Tamar for a wife of his first son Er . This woman Tamar was actually a very holy woman as she was the daughter of Noach's son Shem ( also known as Melchitzeddek that Blessed Avraham after the war of the four kings against five , that Avraham had won and defeated when his nephew Lot had been captured - earlier on in the Book of Bereishis ) . Because Er did not want to spoil her beauty , he reasoned that she should not be made pregnant And So HaShem Caused him to die . Yehudah was the one to whom the Laws of Yibum were first given and so in Levirate marriage , Yehudah then gave his second son Onan to Tamar but Onan , thinking the seed would not be his , also did not want to impregnate her and so did not want to bring up children in his brother's honour And So HaShem Caused him to die also . So did Yehudah feel how it is to lose a son and in this case Yehudah lost two sons , thus being punished for what he had put his Father through . Seeing as he blamed Tamar that she must be a woman who causes her husbands to die ( for he did not know that it was their fault ) , he withheld his third son Shelah from Tamar and had Tamar continue to wait in her Father's house . Tamar saw that Yehudah was not going to give Shelah to her when he grew up after she waited many years and Yehudah's wife had also died , she decided for the reason of genuinely wanting to have progeny through Yehudah's holy line , that she would remove her widow's garb and sit at the crossroads on the road to Timnah , seeing that Shelah , now grown , was still not given to her as a husband . When Yehudah saw her , he did not recognize her , as she was always modest in his home , never showing her face but always keeping it covered . She agreed to be with him , had him sign a marriage contract as our Rabbis tell us and he was to leave as a pledge of the union , his signet ( the ring position of the royal line of Judah ) as his wedding ring to her , his wrap ( royal cloak cover ) and staff ( the staff representative of a king , for Yehudah's Tribe was the line of kings ) . Tamar conceived by him and it was told to Yehudah that she was pregnant . Yehudah wanted her taken out and burnt , for she was a Priest's Daughter ( daughter of Malchitzeddek ) that was still in the bounds of awaiting Levirate marriage to Shelah and if not him , then Yehudah would have been next in line to take her . She did not name Yehudah openly at her trial , but only had delivered to him , his signet , wrap and staff and asked " Identify if you please , " the same words Yehudah had said to his Father Yaakov , when hurting his Father with the Tunic of Yosef . Satan tried to hide the pledge she had gotten so as to try and kill her and stop the line of Dovid and Moshiach , who would be Satan / Samael's eventual downfall And HaShem Sent the Malach Angel Michael to retrieve it and make it appear and now it was up to Yehudah , whether he would own up and embarrass himself , or hide his embarrassment and have her killed . Yehudah chose to save her and embarrass himself and do the right thing . The Holy Line of David was now born , from Yehudah and Tamar , that would come down generations later , as very holy Dovid Ha Melech and his line . This story of Yehudah and Tamar , was also interposed here within the story of Yosef , for both Tamar and Zulaicha ( Potiphar's wife ) both foresaw that they would have children with this holy family of Avraham , Yitzchak and Yaakov , yet Tamar's intention was one of holiness , unlike Potiphar's wife Zulaicha ( who ended up having her adopted daughter Asenath , who was originally Yaakov's grand daughter from his daughter Dinah , marry Yosef , even though Zulaicha thought it would be her herself who would be with Yosef ) , but Zulaicha who was not at all holy , had no holy intention at all . HaShem's Holy Torah narrative returns to Yosef in Potiphar's house . A Hebrew was not looked upon favourably at that time to work in an Egyptian's house ( how that changed when we went into slavery in the Book of Shemos ) and a Hebrew was not even allowed to touch the food of an Egyptian , for they said we contaminate their Treife - UnKosher food . Potiphar saw that Yosef was very special and honest and trustworthy and eventually put Yosef in charge of his house and in charge of everything except As The Holy Torah Says , " The Bread he ate , " for as I mentioned , we were not allowed to touch an Egyptian's food . This also means that Yosef was permitted all things , except Zulaicha , Potiphar's wife . Potiphar could not help but notice that Yosef was very physically appealing and nor did Potiphar's wife Zulaicha . Yosef felt more at ease in Egypt now And So , HaShem Very Quickly Reminded him That a Jew should never feel totally comfortable and relaxed in Galus And So HaShem Sent Against him the bear personality Zulaicha . Zulaicha saw in her astrology that she would have a family connection with Yosef and so she took it to mean that she would have children with him . This was totally incorrect for the only family connection she would ever have with him would be that he would marry her adopted daughter Osnas ( Asenath ) who was not Egyptian at all but as I mentioned earlier , the Grand-daughter of Yaakov and daughter of Yaakov's daughter Dinah . Thus Osnas was Dinah and Shechem's daughter ( Shechem being the man who had taken Dinah forcefully and had kept her and had wanted to marry her , the same Shechem whom the two sons of Yaakov , Simeon and Levi , had killed when they freed their sister from that place ) , for Osnas had also been brought to Egypt . Thus she was actually Jewish . Zulaicha was completely taken by Yosef's looks to the point where she thought about being with him night and day . She pursued him continuously , changing and redressing herself five times a day to try and attract his attention , but Yosef would not even look at her . In fact , Yosef tried his best to avoid her and not serve her , but she continually called him , to run her bath , set her clothes , cream her , which he refused and fix her perfumes . Day after day she hounded him and day after day he refused her saying that he would not insult his G-D and his boss - master Potiphar . She even offered to kill her husband , but nothing worked and he removed himself from her presence . Yosef served his master Potiphar faithfully and whatever Potiphar would ask to drink , hot or cold , it would instantly be served that way by Yosef From HaShem , into Potiphar's hand . Potiphar even asked if Yosef is a magician able to perform such magic and Yosef told Potiphar That It Was All The Work Of HaShem The One And Only True G-D And Creator Of Creation . Yosef taught Potiphar About HaShem . HaShem Revealed Himself To Potiphar for the sake of Yosef As A Spiritual Light above Yosef and so Potiphar could not deny Yosef's holiness . Thus Yosef could not be swayed by Zulaicha . Zulaicha's friends noticed how Zulaicha was depressed and she invited them to dine with her and she called in Yosef to show how she must look at him all the time and desire him . They too were taken with his looks which he had obviously gotten from his Mother Rachel and Father Yaakov and they advised her to command him to do her will but that too did not work . Yosef would not sin against HaShem . The day came which was a festival in Egypt for the overflowing of the Nile , an abundance of water for irrigation , that Egypt celebrated . Potiphar had asked his wife to come with him , but she had refused , making out that she was ill and she sat in the doorway awaiting Yosef to walk past her , knowing he always came that way . She knew no one else would be in the house and so she planned to catch him . As he walked past her , he did not even avert his eyes to the scantily clad silk-gowned Zulaicha who tried to coax him to follow her , but he refused . She put her hands on him and tried her best to get him wanting her , but seeing an image of his Father Yaakov , he stepped back , thus slighting her and leaving her rejected . She tried to physically grab him , but he managed to step free and he turned to flee and it was then that she caught the back of his garment and it got left in her hand as he ran from her . Knowing that she may not be believed by her husband , she got the other wives to lie and also deceitfully say to their husbands that they had been molested by Yosef and so when Potiphar returned , he found the husbands at his throat , verbally accusing his slave of things that Yosef never ever did . Yosef truthfully maintained his innocence even though Zulaicha argued and Potiphar called the Egyptian priests to judge and they asked where the garment of Yosef was grabbed . Hearing that it had been grabbed in the back , they said that he must have been fleeing and thus she must be lying . Yosef never forgot their kindness to him and repaid them royally when the future famine came . Zulaicha blamed Potiphera for bringing a Hebrew into their home and so was Yosef judged wrongly . Even the adopted daughter Osnas stood up for Yosef saying how Zulaicha had constantly hounded him . Potiphar knew Yosef was innocent , but to save face , Yosef was put in prison . Not the usual prison for criminals , but another prison that was kept for those who insulted the royalty of Egypt . HaShem Watched Over Yosef and even there in the prison , Yosef was seen to be a man of worth . At night , Potiphar who was the actual head of this Prison , would have Yosef come out just to clean his house and then have to go back again . Still Zulaicha hounded him , but to no avail . HaShem Alone Who Is Solely In Control Of All Things , Works His Special Works To Help us and so one day , the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers and the Chamberlain of the Bakers for Pharoah were put in the prison . It was the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers job , to put the cup into Pharaoh's hand , for drinking . That was his job . He had been blamed for an insect that had flown into the cup of wine , purely by accident . The Chamberlain of the Bakers on the other hand , had purposefully tried to hurt Pharaoh , by putting a stone into what he had baked for Pharaoh . One morning Yosef saw them downcast and he asked them what was the matter and they said that they had both dreamed a dream . Both had miraculously dreamed their own dream and hidden within each one's dream , was also the interpretation of the other one's dream . Yosef had them relate their dreams , first the Chamberlain of the Cupbearers who dreamed of a grapevine with three tendrils that budded , blossomed and bloomed into grapes and the Chamberlain squeezed the grapes into Pharaoh's cup and then put it into Pharoah's palm . HaShem Gave Yosef the dream's interpretation which was that in three days , he would be restored to his post and do as he did before in his job . Also Yosef Was Also Shown By HaShem A Prophecy For our People Of How HaShem Would Redeem us from Egypt with three individuals , Moshe , Aharon and Miryam . Yosef asked this Chamberlain to remember him when the Chamberlain would be set free , to please ask for his release , a mistake and lack of trust In HaShem . Then the Chamberlain of the Bakers who already was given in his dream , as I mentioned , the interpretation of the other's dream , knew that Yosef had , as we know With The Help Of HaShem , interpreted correctly and so he decided to then relate his dream of three wicker baskets on his head , where in the uppermost basket , was all kinds of food for Pharoah , where the birds were eating it . So Did HaShem Give , Through Yosef To the Chamberlain of the Bakers , The Interpretation of this dream to mean that in three days , on Pharaoh's birthday , Pharaoh would hang the Chamberlain of the Bakers . So did everything happen Just As HaShem Had Shown to Yosef . The Chamberlain of the Cupbearers tried many times to remember to help Yosef , but was repeatedly made to forget . So ends the Parsha . The Parsha is called " Vayeishev " - " Settled " and starts out with Yaakov finally settling in the Holy Land . No sooner does Yaakov feel settled , then tragedy strikes and he is forced to be without his beloved son Yosef . HaShem Tells the Tzaddik , " Don't be settled and content yet , in this World of Olam Hazeh , for you have work to do , to bring this World To The Light Of HaShem . " HaShem Tells the Tzaddik , That his Peace and Rest will come only in " Olam Habah " - " The World To Come . " Only in Olam Habah , will we finally " Vayeishev " - " Settle . " Everything else that we go through , every day , as Jews , is just a journey , even from one Gilgul to another , from one incarnation to another . Both Yaakov and Yosef were Tzaddikim . Both had to go and Settle in strange lands for both Yaakov and Yosef had to settle in Egypt . Yaakov also had to settle away from home with Lavan . But Egypt was not our home . Only Eretz Yisroel is our true home , Given To us Eternally By HaShem . Wherever we are , HaShem Is Always With us . We are now celebrating the Festival of Chanukah Where A Miracle Was Performed For us By HaShem , for where there was only a cruse of Kasher Oil to last for one day , it lasted throughout the Eight days . Again , A Miracle From HaShem , That HaShem Reminds us , that no matter where may we find ourselves , our only place of " Vayeishev " - " Settling , " Is With HaShem and not with foreign pagan ways , Chas Ve Shalom . This Is One Of The Sweet Truths Of Chanukah and here in this Parsha is this message reverberated , for no matter where we find ourselves , we are To Keep HaShem's Laws , no matter what outside pressure is put upon us . Yosef when he was in Egypt , kept to our Holy Torah Laws Of HaShem and remained a Holy Hebrew , even though he lived among heathens . So did Yaakov , who lived among those who so strongly worship idols . So must we also stay strong in our sole Faithfulness To HaShem Alone . These places of and in Galus , are not our home , but a temporary abode , to do Miztvos And Bring The Light Of HaShem and raise ourselves to Shamayim Heaven . Only is Canaan , referred to here , as " Vayeishev " - " Settling , Is The True Holy Settling For us Jews . " For only HaShem And His Holy Land ( the Land of our Fore-Fathers ) And HaShem's Way Is The Only True " Vayeishev " - " Settling . " We all face many trials and tribulations and many tempters , like in the Story of Chanukah , that try to pull us away From HaShem's Path , Chas Ve Shalom , but these paths of falsity , couched in false religion , will never lead a person To Where HaShem Instructs us To Go , In His Holy Torah . The Way , Is Only HaShem's Way And The Truth , Is Only HaShem's Truth And The " Vayeishev " - " Settling , " Is Only With HaShem And HaShem's Holy Torah True . No Jew , who is a True Jew , can ever truly settle in anything else , But In HaShem And In HaShem's Way And In HaShem's Holy Torah . It may feel physically comfortable for now , but the Jewish Neshoma cries out To HaShem And Only HaShem's Settlement Is The True Home . As we light each Candle on the Chanukiah , so must we work To Light Up HaShem's Creation With HaShem's Light and as each candle on the Chanukiah burns upwards , so must all our works and actions Be For The Sake Of HaShem And HaShem's Shamayim Heaven . Eight Days are Chanukah and Eight is the number into the Spiritual , Into Olam Habah . It is only in Olam Habah that we Jews can truly " Vayeishev " - " Settle " and it is only in Olam Habah that we as Jews find True Settling Peace . Until we get there , we have much work to do , for we Jews Are To Be A Light Unto The Nations ( Yeshayahu Isaiah 49 : 6 ) and lead the World To HaShem's One And Only Truth Of Oneness . Chanukah teaches us To Be Faithful And True To HaShem Alone . This Parsha of " Vayeishev " Shows us That Only Within HaShem , Can we Truly Settle . So let us use this World of Olam Hazeh to its full potential and not lose a single opportunity to prove our Faithfulness To HaShem's Holy Torah Truth , making this World into a Place as Intended , Where HaShem Can " Vayeishev " - " Settle " Among us , As HaShem Wanted To Do In Gan Eiden . May the World finally Come To The Knowledge And Truth Of HaShem , For Within HaShem Is The Only Place To " Vayeishev " - " Settle . " Our Fore-Fathers knew this . So may we all come to know this and do this and make " Olam Hazeh " - " The Present World " into " Olam Habah " - " The World To Come " In The Loving Care Of HaShem Ha Kadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . I wish Ever Most Beautiful Eternally Beloved HaShem With The Sweetest Forever Love , A Very Beautiful And Very Special Shabbos Kodesh And Chag Chanukah Sameach With The Most Deepest Love and to all of my fellow Jews , a Very Special and Very Beautiful Shabbos Kodesh and Chag Chanukah Sameach with love .
