The Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Emor . This Sedra begins by teaching about the Laws to the Kohanim , so that they always keep themselves Holy and Pure . The Kohanim are also appointed to help keep K'lal Yisrael Holy and Pure . This is understandable , as the task of the Kohanim , is to ensure the Purity of our Jewish nation , by their offerings that are done by the Kohanim , on our behalf , thus helping us to achieve a much closer Relationship With HaShem . The Haftorah for this Parsha is Yechezkiel Ezekiel 44 : 15 - 31 and also talks of the Laws of Purity of the Kohanim . The Kohanim who seek and help to Purify the nation , must therefore ensure that they must first and fore-most be very Clean and Pure themselves . One cannot clean a stain with a cloth that is already dirty , so the Kohanim themselves who help clean the Jewish nation , must themselves first be Clean and Holy and Pure and fully Torah Observant . They may not contaminate themselves for one who has passed on , except for a close relative . They may not make a bald spot on their heads nor may they shave the edge of their beard or cut a gash in their flesh , for they shall be Holy To HaShem and not desecrate HaShem's Holy Name , Chas Ve Shalom . They may not marry a woman who is a Zonah , a harlot , or a woman who has been desecrated , or a woman who is a Gerushah , a Divorcee and the Kohein Gadol is not allowed to marry a widow , where an ordinary Kohein can . The Laws for the Kohein Gadol are much stricter than for an ordinary Kohein , for he cannot marry an Almanah , a Widow and cannot even contaminate himself , even for his relative's passing . Torah Instructs that they may not do the Avodah if they have a " Mum , " ( pronounced as " Moom ) " - " A Blemish , " or if they are blind , lame , or if they lack a nose bridge , or one limb is longer than the other , or if they have a broken leg or arm , or abnormally long eyebrows , or a membrane on their eye or a blemish in their eye , or a dry or moist skin eruption or crushed testes . For those that have these , from the offspring of Aharon Ha Kohein , may not do the fire-offerings Of HaShem . In those days , if a person had a Spiritual problem with their holiness , it would show up physically in one of these mentioned ways and these things would disqualify them from doing the Avodah . They would also be forbidden to do the Avodah , if they had any of the previously mentioned Contaminations , when eating of that which the Kohein is supposed to partake of , from the holy offerings . Torah goes into the Laws of Terumah , the one fiftieth of the crop that is the Kohein's Portion . Torah then Speaks of the offerings themselves , that they must be unblemished . The Torah Portion then continues with the " Mo'adei HaShem Asher Tik're'u Otam Mik'ra'ei Kodesh , " - " The Appointed Festivals Of HaShem , that you are to " designated as Holy Convocations , " which refers to our Yomim Tovim that we celebrate and keep throughout the year . They are also called Moadim , for within this word is the word " Eid " which means " Witness , " for when we keep HaShem's Festivals , we stand as witnesses To HaShem's Oneness And Truth . HaShem Set these Festivals at Creation , even though their connections with and reasons for keeping them , took place through our Biblical History . I mention this , as Pesach is celebrated as our Exodus from Egypt and Shavuos , is also the Day we received the Torah Ten Commandments on Har Sinai and Succos also has a connection to The Clouds Of Glory Of HaShem That Surrounded us in the Wilderness . Rosh HaShanah is the New Year , on which day , Adam Ve Chava HaShem Created and Yom Kippur is the Day of Atonement . So all these days Were Created already At Creation , yet with our history , Only Was Commanded To the Children of Israel , after we left Mitzrayim Egypt . Yet our Fore-Fathers did keep these days Holy before the events which were tied to them even came about or took place . For example , Avraham already made and ate Unleavened Bread in his life-time and was in fact busy preparing it , when the Giant Og came to tell him that his nephew Lot had been taken captive by the four kings over the five , for this time was actually the time of the future Passover . So Avraham had to rescue his nephew during the time that became our Passover . No wonder the Giant Og was named from then on as ' Uga / Og ' which means cakes , to refer to the unleavened cakes that Avraham was busy making when Og came to tell him of Lot's capture . It is from this name , that the word ' Ogre ' comes , that in today's times refers to a Giant . This Og had been around a long time and he was one of the progeny of the Nephillim , which came from the fallen Angels in Noach's time . Og survived the " Mabul " - the " Flood " due to Noach's kindness , for when Noach was building the Ark , Noach added to the side , a little standing platform and a little roof for Og to stand between and Noach fed Og every day through a little trap - door opening . Also linked to Festival days in Biblical History , was the incident with the Malachim that came to Sodom , to Lot , for it was Passover then . HaShem Instructs That we are to designate these Holy Festivals , For HaShem Put in our charge , the intercalation of the Jewish Calendar , so that we are to set it up and also say when each New Moon Rosh Chodesh starts and to add in a leap year when necessary , so thus we were to designate the Festivals , called " Holy Convocations , " where the word " Convocations " means " Holy Days of our people gathering as one " ( Ramban ) . We have a Lunar Calendar and a Solar Calendar and when putting the two together , they do not quite coincide with the exact number of days , for the Lunar Month is a bit shorter than the Solar Month and so in order to keep HaShem's Commandment of always celebrating the Pesach in the Spring , a Month Chosen By HaShem's Mercy And Compassion , for it is a mild weathered month and so being freed on this month made it easier for us to travel - The Sweet And Loving Compassion Of HaShem - and so we add every few years an extra leap year month which makes an Adar 1 and Adar 2 , so that the months of the Lunar Calendar will always be closer in matching the two alongside each other , to the Solar Calendar . The muslims also follow a Lunar Calendar but do not put in that leap year month every few years as we do , coming seven times in every 19 year cycle - Chabad , so their celebratory days tend to jump around in the months , from year to year . HaShem Thus Commanded us to be the ones to designate our Holy Convocations And In Commanding us This , Made us as it were , a partner in HaShem's Beautiful Creation Where HaShem Celebrates the Festivals With us . The very first Festival mentioned here is Passover Pesach . This is mentioned first , As HaShem Commanded That this Month of Nissan in which Pesach comes , will be to us the First of the Months . On Pesach , we are to eat Unleavened Bread Matzos for the seven day period of the Festival . Between Pesach and Shavuot , we count the Omer for 49 days , where on the 50th day , we Celebrate the Festival of Shavuot , on which Day HaShem Came Down On Har Sinai . While we were in Egypt , Egypt at that time was the lowest Spiritual Place at the time , the most impure and they had reached the 49th level of impurity ( just as there were 49 steps leading up to Pharaoh's throne ) . Seeing that we lived there , we were exposed to this Tum'a Impurity , the same Impurity and Impure sources , with which they performed their sorcery and the same impurity that they had , that had them committing every single Forbidden act of Immorality That HaShem's Holy Torah Commanded us in the previous Parasha not to commit . So when we left Egypt , before we were Spiritually on a level to meet HaShem , we had to climb these 49 levels back toward Purity and so , between Pesach and Shavuot , we count the 49 Days of the Omer ( as we Jews are doing right now at this time of the Jewish Year And Calendar ) on which we purify ourselves in order to meet HaShem On Shavuot . The seven weeks of seven , take us to Holiness , where we know that the number seven is a holy number and seven sets of seven , Holy upon Holy . The Gematriah of Moshiach is Seven . The Sabbath , Which Is Also Mentioned In this Parsha , is on the Seventh Day As HaShem Created . The Sabbatical Year is the seventh year and seven Sabbatical years takes us to the number forty nine , after which comes the Yovel Jubilee ( Fiftieth ) Year . So we count seven sets of seven and on that next day ( 50th day ) , ( like an 8th after the 7 ) , is The Holy Festival Yom Tov Of Shavuot , The Day That we Received HaShem's Revelation On Har - Mount Sinai And Were Given By HaShem , The Ten Pronouncements , after purifying ourselves through the 49 day count of the Omer Offering and on that next day , the 50th Day , Is Shavuot . So do we celebrate Shavuot , having reached that 50th Day , like the 50th Gate of Purity , for which Moshe Rabbeinu ( who started by having to climb up Pharaoh's 49 steps ( like the 49 levels of impurity of Pharaoh ) to speak to Pharaoh , for Pharaoh's throne ( as I mentioned ) was at the top of 49 steps , on the 50th step , representing his 49 / 50 steps of impurity ) Moshe climbed through all 49 Gates of Purity and Wisdom and went on Spiritually toward that 50th Gate of Holiness , after his passing . Such was the Festival of Shavuot . It was also due to the Omer offering that we also warranted Being Saved in the time of Purim , for it was the time of Pesach when this event of haman happened in Shushan and haman had given 10 000 kikar to have us Jews exterminated . It was on the Second Day of Pesach when the decree was turned around on haman's own head , when haman had to parade Mordechai in front of the people . For Mordechai was teaching at that very time , when haman had come to fetch him to put him on the ride ready for parading , about the Omer that had to be offered at this very time and so this Omer counteracted the money given by haman . ( Midrash Vayikra - Rabbi M Weissman ) . HaShem Reminds us That when we reap our harvest , we should not remove completely , the corners of our fields when we reap and not gather the gleanings of our harvest , but leave them for the poor and the proselyte . HaShem Then Commands About Rosh HaShanah , The First of Tishrei . Rosh HaShanah goes back to the Beginnings of Bereishis , For It Was On Rosh HaShanah as I mentioned earlier That HaShem Created Adam Ve Chava , so this is the Day of the Whole World's True New Year . The Shofar that we blow , commemorates the Akeidah at which Avraham offered a Ram in place of his beloved son Yitzchak . Rosh HaShanah and The Ten Days of Repentance , bring us to the 10th of Tishrei , Yom Kippur , which are days of Atoning , where it was on Yom Kippur , that Moshe came down after his third time of 40 days and 40 nights up on Har Sinai , when Moshe finally gained Forgiveness for us From HaShem , after the Chait Ha Eigel - the golden calf incident . So on Yom Kippur , we Fast and Atone . Five days after this , we celebrate the Festival of Succos for a seven day period , where we dwell in our Succahs and take the Lulav and Etrog , the Four Species and Rejoice Before HaShem . Yes Rejoicing is a Mitzvah , to be happy and rejoice with Kiddush . The four species that we take on Succos and bind them together , represent the four types among our people that are brought together as one and become one as our people should be one , making up for each other's strengths and weaknesses . The Four Species are the Esrog , the Citron which tastes and smells nice and represents those of our people who have learning and morals - good actions ; the Lulav branch ( Date-Palm ) whose fruit has a nice taste but no odour represents those who have learning but lack morals - good actions ; the Myrtle which has a nice odour but no taste , represents those who have no Torah learning or deficient Torah learning , yet have morals and good actions and deeds ; and the Willow which has no odour and no taste and which represents those who have no Torah learning and no morals and good deeds . So when all are held together , we all become one and help each other . The fact that there are " Four " Species , assists in forgiveness for the Four types of death penalty ( Midrash Vayikra - Rabbi M Weissman ) . All of these species also have a connection to being near a water source and so is the World Blessed With Water At This Time . At this time we also have the ancient Festival of the Water Drawing . We dwell in Succos Booths during this Festival and welcome the Ushpizin who are the special Guests of our Holy Fore-Fathers and Holy Men from our Torah and Tanach , welcoming one of them every day that we are in the Succah , a new Guest , each day . The Ushpizin are Avraham , Yitzchak , Yaakov , Yosef , Moshe , Aharon and Dovid ha Melech . Each Day of Succos , one of these Holy men can come and visit us and see that we are giving to the poor . On the next day after Succos , we celebrate a special Festival called Shemini Atzeres , the Eighth Day Feast where we spend An Extra Day Of Holiness With HaShem , showing HaShem after all these Holy Days , that we still so deeply wish to be close to HaShem , Just As HaShem Wants that extra Day With us . These are the Festivals of Israel . HaShem Then Commands About The Menorah and how only the purest first drop of Olive Oil is to be used for the Menorah , purely hand squeezed one olive per one drop squeezed , for only the first drop , being the purest un-sedimented drop of an olive per olive can be used as olive oil for the Menorah . Aharon was to light the Menorah from evening to morning As An Eternal Decree . HaShem Commands About the Showbread 12 loaves for the Shulchan Table , to be changed before every Shabbos and the Showbread from the previous week would still remain fresh . So should our Jewish Kings of David's line always be fresh and pure , for the Table for the Showbreads , is also a representation of the Jewish Kings of the line of Judah . HaShem's Holy Torah Then Relates the happening of the ' hamekaleil , ' - ' the blasphemer . ' This man was actually the son of Dasan's wife Shelomis after she had been taken in a forceful manner by the egyptian taskmaster who was beating Dasan on that day that Moshe had come to save him . Shelomis was known to lack modesty and liked to be a bit flirtatious with other men and so was her name Shelomis , for she often said Shalom hello to other males . On that day , the Egyptian taskmaster had come to Dasan's house to look for Dasan to call him for work . After Dasan had left , the egyptian taskmaster returned and took advantage of her , after she was overly friendly verbally with him . She had not wanted it to go that far . When he saw Dasan , the egyptian wanted to silence the matter that he had been with her , where he had conceived with her a child , so he beat Dasan and this is where Moshe came on the scene and helped save Dasan's life . Thus this son of hers had an egyptian father . It was this son , that is here mentioned in The Holy Torah , mentioned as the blasphemer , that was the son of Shelomis and this egyptian taskmaster and he had taken on his father's evil character . He is mentioned here after the Showbread , for it was about the Showbread that he chose to ridicule Moshe and Moshe's teachings From HaShem , for he tried to make out that the bread from the previous week could not last out the week in freshness . How wrong he was . This person came and put up his tent within the area of the Tribe of Dan , for he thought that he should , as his Mother was a Danite , even though lineage only goes through the Father and he did not have a Jewish Father , for previously , he liked to stay outside the camp , near the people who were not allowed into the camp due to impurity . Another Danite questioned his action saying that he was not allowed to be there , within the Tribe of Dan , for his ( this blasphemer's ) father was an egyptian and thus not a member of the Tribes . He argued and the matter was brought to Moshe's Beth Din . When the blasphemer asked who his father was , he was told that his father was the egyptian that Moshe had killed . The blasphemer asked how Moshe had done this and was told that Moshe had pronounced HaShem's Holy Name and the egyptian had fallen dead . When the blasphemer heard this , he disrespectfully said this Very Holy Name and Blasphemed The Name . When he was taken to Moshe for judgement , Moshe did not want to give judgement himself as Moshe had a personal issue in this matter and so Moshe asked HaShem what to do . HaShem Instructed That this blasphemer must be taken outside the Camp and those who heard his blaspheming , must be the first to stone him and so was this done . HaShem Then Teaches About Punishment Of a life for a life and restitution being given for injury caused to another . It Is Here In HaShem's Holy Torah That HaShem Mentions " Ayin Tachas Ayin " - " An Eye for an Eye . " This does not mean that if someone takes out a person's eye , that so must be done to them . Not at all . The word " Tachat , " literally means " Under " ( being equivalent to being Less than ) so it says " An Eye under an Eye , " which means that not the eye is taken out of the perpetrator for that eye that they caused to come out of someone else . But a lesser restitution is calculated via money restitution and this is the same with other injuries mentioned . We also know that money is being referred to as the judgement , because the Gematriah of the word " Tachat , " is 400 + 8 + 400 = 808 and 8 + 0 + 8 = 16 and 1 + 6 = 7 , which is the same as the Gematriah of the word " Kesef " - " Money , " which is 20 + 60 + 80 = 160 and 1 + 6 + 0 = 7 . So both " Kesef " and " Tachat , " both have the same Gematriah . The Parsha ends with the death of the Blasphemer . HaShem Tells us , " There shall be one Law for you , it shall be for the proselyte and the native alike , For I , HaShem , Am your G-d . " So ends the Parsha . This Parsha is called " Emor " - " Say . " HaShem Could Have Used any form of the Word " Amar / Omer " as the word for " Say . " So Why Did HaShem Use the form of the word as " Emor . " If we look at the Gematriah of the word " Emor , " it comes to the same Gematrical value as the word Mashiach . " Emor " is 1 + 40 + 200 = 241 and 2 + 4 + 1 = 7 , just as the word " Mashiach " is 7 in Gematriah . So this Command To Be Pure , is to continue till Moshiach's time , just as Moshiach and the Days of Moshiach are Pure and the Days of Olam HaBah , will be Pure and also if we were all Pure According To HaShem And HaShem's Commandments Then HaShem Would Send Mashiach and just like the Kohanim are instructed to be Pure in this Parsha . A direct word " Emor " is given here , which is the Commanding Form of the word , as ' A Command ' is used here , As HaShem Gives the Kohanim A Direct Command To Command us to be Holy and Pure and Obedient to G-D . This is why , in this first verse of the Parsha , the word " Emor " is repeated , " in the word " Ve'Amarta , " For HaShem Tells / Commands the Kohanim , to Tell / Command us to be Holy and Pure through time . The Kohanim and us , through time , are to be Pure and Holy and continue to ensure that we keep holy and Pure , no matter what our Yetzer Horah tries to pull us to do . The Kohanim , were , at the time , the teachers Of HaShem's Holy Torah and so , they had to be the example of Obedience , Purity and Holiness To HaShem . Commands are given to them first and foremost to be Holy , for being Holy , is the best teacher by example . We will so much quicker listen to a teacher who has that very correct character that they tell others to have . Before they purify others , they must first purify themselves . This is the same for us all . Before we start telling others how to be good and holy , we must first look at ourselves and make ourselves good and moral and holy . Being holy is the best teacher for others and those around us . Teaching by example gives the best impression to those we come into contact with . It is so easy to look at others and judge others , but we need to first look at and within ourselves . Do we properly keep the Holy Torah Of HaShem And HaShem's Commandments ? Are we as moral as we should be ? Do we always do what we should do , What HaShem Wants us to do ? Are we always as kind to others as we should be ? Are we a good example of morality and correctness ? Are we who we should be , religiously and morally ? Are we as religious and Torah - Observant and Following as we should be ? Of course we are not . We can always do better and improve . I am not saying that we must not teach others to improve . I am saying that we also need to look at ourselves , before we look to and hunt for the faults of others . If we are totally honest with ourselves , we will find plenty of room for improvement . We often see the very faults in others , that are most apparent within ourselves . Perhaps we should think on that . The very things that catch our attention in others , are the very things that we ourselves probably need improvement on and in . HaShem Tells the Kohanim to be pure , before they purify others . This is how it should be with us all . Let us all look within and clean our own Avodas HaShem , our Obedience To HaShem and our Holy Work For HaShem , before we go out and tell others the same things that we ourselves have a fault with . Cleaning our own faults will Spiritually cause a ripple in everything around us and so will it send the opening of Spiritual Cleansing to those around us that have the same issue to correct and so will others easier listen to our well meaning attempts to purify this World . When we notice a specific problem in others , there may be a reason why that specific thing caught our attention . Perhaps HaShem Is " Emor " - " Saying and Talking " To us Through our own will , so we can look deeper into ourselves and correct that very thing within ourselves . HaShem " Emor " - " Speaks " To us All The Time . We really need to listen and look closer at everything that catches our attention and at everything that happens around us , For HaShem Who Is Filled With Love And Caring And Compassion , Surrounds us With So Much Love . All that we see and perceive is for our own benefit to better ourselves and raise ourselves To HaShem and to Shamayim Heaven . So let us all start now and really look very deeply and honestly within ourselves and work on those things that are not what they should be within ourselves and let us make ourselves shining examples Of Holiness For HaShem HaKadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He , for that is the best and most effective teacher of all , to bring all things around us to the Pathway to HaShem Ha Kadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . Our Parsha this Shabbos is also a Double Portion of Acharei Mos and Kedoshim and the Haftorah for this Sedra is in Amos 9 : 7 - 15 and just like one of the subjects in the Parsha , speaks of the way we treat HaShem and how we keep HaShem's Commandments which will very much affect our stay in our Holy Land Eretz Yisroel , That HaShem Gives us As A Gift , providing that we keep Eretz Yisroel As HaShem Commands us to , Thus Keeping HaShem Ever Close . Acharei Mos Chapter 16 is usually read on Yom Kippur as it includes the Holy Yom Kippur Service . HaShem Speaks To Moshe " Acharei Mos " - "After the death of " Aharon's two sons , About The Holiness Of The Sanctuary , Within the Curtain , Near The Ark Of The Covenant And That Aharon should not enter there at other times , except on Yom Kippur . This Was A Most Holy Place , With HaShem's Shechinah and Malachim Angels Present and unlike Aharon's two sons who entered A Holy Place on their own wishes and decision , It Is Only HaShem Who Can Give Permission to enter . Moshe was not bound by this , but Aharon and all others were . The Parsha describes the Yom Kippur Service , When Atonement is made . This very day was a day That HaShem Set For our Atonement , for it was after the Sin of the golden calf , the Chait Ha ' Eigel , that Moshe went up to HaShem ( going up all together , in total , for a period of three different occasions , for a period of 40 days each time ) and it was on this last time up there , when Moshe left to go up on the 29th of Av , that after 40 days , on the 10th of Tishrei , the Day of Yom Kippur , that Moshe finally attained for us Atonement and so is this day also set for Atonement . Preparations for The Yom Kippur Service began 7 days before for the Kohein Gadol , who would purify himself before , for the 7 days and on two of the days in between , would be sprinkled with the ashes of the Parah Aduma - The Red Heifer . Delegates would be sent to help him prepare and instruct him in all that would be necessary . On the Night of Yom Kippur , the Kohein Gadol would not sleep , but he would stay up and study and even had an attendant who would ensure that he stayed awake . During the Service throughout the day of Yom Kippur , the Kohein Gadol would immerse himself in the spring water five times and change his garments . When going into the Kodesh , he would remove his four garments of Gold ( as gold was used in the Chait Ha ' Eigel ) and wear only his other Garments of pure white , like the Malachim - Angels . Offerings were also done on This Holy Day and This Day , as The Parsha mentions , is known for the lots placed on two goats , one For HaShem and the other " Azazel . " The goat for Azazel would be taken and sent with a designated person that was to pass on within that year of doing this and this goat was to be sent off a precipice . Only then , would the Kohein Gadol continue with the Service . The Law of the he-goat to Azazel is a Chok , a Law For Which HaShem Has Given no explanation . Our Rabbonim of Blessed Memory do teach us what may be a few reasons for this . None of them are a show to bribe a negative force , on our behalf for that Day . The word " Azazel " has a few derivations . One of them being , that the word " Azazel " can be broken up into the words ' Az ' which means ' goat ' and ' Azel , ' which means ' going , ' which is exactly what this procedure was , a goat that must go into the Wilderness . Also , the word " Azazel , " can also be broken up into the words ' Aziz ' - ' Strong ' and ' el ' - ' Mighty , ' for it was to a strong and mighty cliff and rock from which the goat had to be sent off from . Some of our Rabbis also assume that it referred to a specific cliff with this name . There is a deeper meaning within this word " Azazel . " This goes back to the time of Noach . Around that time , two Malachim Angels approached HaShem and questioned the morality of human beings . They asked HaShem why He Created humans if they perform such acts of Immorality and Perversion . HaShem Told these two Angels , that it certainly is not easy to be a human being , with the pull of the Yetzer Horah and with the desires that human beings physically feel . These two Angels asked HaShem To Send them down so that they could prove that they could do better . HaShem Warned them that it is hard to be human and that they cannot understand the pull of physicality that a human has . They insisted And HaShem Sent them down . Their names were Azael and Shemchazai ( shortened to Aza ) and when we put these two names together , one gets ' Azazel . ' These two Angels , when they did come down , realized how wrong they had been , for they were unable to contain or control themselves , with this experience of being in human bodies with human desires and appetites and so , ended up doing worse than the humans did , in sexual immorality and other sins . They could not contain themselves with human women and brought forth a whole race of Nephillim , The Fallen Ones . It Was Then That HaShem Sent the Mabul , the Flood , for the depth to which man stooped , left no place for betterment . People at that time , took more than one wife , one for having children and others for their own personal pleasure . People exchanged wives and at that time , people also indulged in the horrific act of bestiality and other forbidden relationships That HaShem , In this very Torah Portion , Warns us against . People also at that time , arranged marriage contracts between people and animals and also allowed different species to come together , something That HaShem Strictly Forbade . No wonder this particular event would bring on a need for such an act of atoning for the World within the connection of these two Angelic beings that both make up the name Azazel , for the sin of sexual immorality is , according to Halacha , one of the three most serious sins , the other two being Idol Worship and Murder , the three sins that a Jew is to give up his life for , rather than commit them . There may also be a connection with this name Azazel , to Samael , the Angel of Eisav , the Angel who tempted Chava in Gan Eiden . This Angel Samael , insisted to HaShem , that it wants to Judge the Jewish people , as all other nations get judged . HaShem , Needing to be fair , Gave Samael the permission to Judge us only on Yom Kippur , For HaShem Knew that this would be a Day that all Jews , even those who do not correctly Keep all The Laws That HaShem Tells us to keep , that this would be a Day that all Jews would Remember Yom Kippur and try their best and Atone . So HaShem Knew that even on this day , Samael's negative intention would hold no power over HaShem's Beloved people . Samael wanted some form of recompense and so , a he - goat is sent for this purpose as an offering to HaShem , that Samael can think is to do with him . As I said , Samael is the Angel of our greatest enemy Eisav Amalek and Eisav was to have the place mountain called Se'ir . This name has a deep reason , for the word ' Se'ir ' means ' hair ' for Eisav was born very hairy and so , this place was an indication of his hairy hard nature , which looks to gratifying his own physical appetites and his need for hunting and eating meat , one of them being the he-goat , where a ' Se'ir , ' also means ' he-goat ' ( let us remember the goat that Eisav was to bring to his Father , the goat that Yaakov brought to his Father and the goat that was dipped in blood by Yosef's brothers , that they brought to their Father Yaakov - how deeply Beautiful and Special , Is The Holy Torah ) . Thus , the he-goat is sent off to Atone for the affects that those around us Jews attempt to do , to turn us away from Holy Judaism , Chas Ve Shalom and so are we atoned . The goat has been a representative symbol for Satanistic beliefs for a long time and so , this characteristic , comes from Eisav and his ilk around us , that perform the most despicable atrocities throughout history . The Torah Portion continues with the full Yom Kippur Service and that it is to be an Eternal Decree for us Jews . The Torah Portion then continues with the prohibition not to eat blood , for in all parts of the beheimah , it is their blood that is for atonement . That does not mean that blood is the only way to atone , as some of the heretical thinkers try to claim , for the verse directly says that in all parts of the animal , the part of blood is the part for atonement , ( never to be eaten ) , in connection with offerings and that there are other ways to atone , like at a time when we do not have a Temple , HaShem , Many Times Teaches us that our lips substitute for bulls and rams . Thus Blood is not to be eaten , as some nations did in those days . HaShem's Holy Torah Then Teaches us of the Forbidden Relationships that we as HaShem's People , To Keep us As a Holy People , are not to engage in , as the Egyptians and Canaanites indulged in . Among these , is mentioned the Law not to pass our children through to molech , which was a ritual where a child was passed between two flames in front of the assyrian idol that had a calf's face with outstretched hands and 7 compartments in its heated stomach , where the child was put into the 7th compartment . It is interesting to note that the this idol called molech , was like an egyptian form of baal , from where the term ' baal-zebub ' came from and that in islam , they have an angel called ' maalik ' which is their angel of hellfire and that their angel called malakbel , from the ancient canaanite religion , was at the time , the idol messenger of baal , the idol . No wonder they used fire on children at the time , if the belief was of hellfire . HaShem Then Cautions us not to follow , in any way shape or form , the abominations of the nations , who did all these depravities and so did Israel , the Land , The Place of HaShem's Special Closeness , did disgorge them from the Holy Land , A Land That will never tolerate any form of depravity , secularism or immorality or idol worship of any nation . It must be A Land of Milk And Honey , Of Torah and Sweet Holiness , For HaShem . Thus is the Haftorah linked . In this last line and paragraph of this Parsha , is a Strong Warning , that we Jews are not in any way , to take on the beliefs and ways of anyone else around us , for only The Holy Torah Laws And The Teachings From HaShem To Moshe and our Sages , Are True . Such an ending in words , is a sweet connection to the start of the following Sedra Kedoshim , which starts out near its beginning saying , " Kedoshim Tiheyu Ki Kadosh Ani HaShem Elokeichem " - " You shall be Holy , For Holy Am I , HaShem , your G-D . " To be separate from other people and from foreign ways and to be Holy to G-D , Is The Pathway of the Jew . For this , Every Commandment That HaShem Ever Gave And Gives us , Is To Lead To Be Holy , As HaShem Is Holy . This Parsha of Kedoshim , starts out With HaShem's Holy Laws To Lead us To " Kedoshim " - " Holiness . " HaShem Reminds us to honour our Mother and Father , of Sabbath Observance and not to turn to idols . HaShem Then Talks of Piggul - Rejected Offerings , Gifts to the poor , being Honest in our dealings with others , not to be a gossip - monger and tale - bearer ( Rechilus - The Midrash Says - Rabbi M Weissman ) among our people , not to stand by , while our fellow's blood is shed , not to bear a grudge against one of our fellow Jews , to Love our fellow Jew as ourselves for , As HaShem's Torah Says , " I Am HaShem . " This Acknowledgement of " I Am HaShem , " is also to remind us That HaShem's Love And Light Is Within us all and how we treat others , is thus how we treat HaShem - so be good to others , as this is being good to HaShem and Keep HaShem's Commandments . HaShem Then Reminds us of the Law of Kilayim , Forbidden Mixtures , not to mix species , the Shifchah Charufah - the designated Maidservant , the time needed to wait after planting before partaking , not to indulge in sorcery , of not picking specific times due to omens , not to round off the edge of our scalp or beard , not to make cuts or gashes when in mourning and not to tattoo ourselves ( an act that was done by idolworshipers ) . The Law of not mixing wool and linen in a garment ( Shaatnez ) , goes back to Kayin and Hevel ( Cain and Abel ) , where Kayin brought the flax linen , while Hevel brought the woollen sheep as an offering . These two men both had opposing views of how to treat HaShem and so , we do not mix such views and such fibres . The only time that these fibres can come together is in a holy Garment like Tzitzis and in the Bigdei Kehuna , the Priestly Garment ( The Midrash Says - Rabbi M Weissman ) , where the Holiness of this Garment brings Sholom - Peace between the two . Then HaShem's Torah Reminds us to Keep HaShem's Sabbaths . We are Commanded not to turn to the sorcery of the Ov or Yid'onim , ways of fortune-telling , but to remain Faithful To HaShem And Trust Him Wholeheartedly . We are to rise in the presence of an old person ( the sweet golden heart of our people , who can teach us much holiness and wisdom and experience and morals ) and to honour the presence of a Torah Sage . We are to be good to the Proselyte , the Convert to Judaism and treat them justly and love them like ourselves , for we too were aliens in Egypt . We are not to commit a perversion of Justice , in measures of length , weight and volume and we are to have correct scales , weights and dry measures and correct liquid measures and in Holiness , HaShem Says , as Often Appears after each Law here , " I Am HaShem Your G-D , Who Brought you out from the Land of Egypt . You Shall Observe My Decrees And All My Ordinances and you shall perform them - I Am HaShem . " HaShem Then Again Warns us against offering to molech , And Reiterates the Arayos - Forbidden Relationships , with more detail on the punishments for these sins , ending with reminding us to keep HaShem's Decrees and Ordinances and then the Land of Israel will not disgorge us ( a link to the Haftorah ) , for we are not to follow the practices of those that were there at other times , That Were Disgorged and we are to remain Holy As HaShem Is Holy , Who Has Separated us Jews from other people . We are to Keep Israel as a Land Flowing with Milk and Honey ( a reference to Torah ) and not ever to follow the ways of other people and their traditions and beliefs . We are to keep Kosher and keep away from that which is unclean . We are not to follow the sorcery of the Ov or of Yid'oni , a crime that deserves death by stoning . The Parsha leaves us with a beautiful Statement that , " You shall be holy for Me , For I HaShem Am Holy And I Have Separated you from the peoples to be Mine . " How much more clear can it be . This is as clear A Show Of HaShem's Love For His Jewish people , For As HaShem Says , We Jewish people are His - using the word " Mine " that shows such personal Love And Sweet Closeness That HaShem Feels for us Jews . As this Parsha of Kedoshim and the Parsha of Acharei Mos show , we are to be holy and to be at one With HaShem Always . HaShem Gave us A Holy Yom Kippur to Atone for our transgressions and we are to keep HaShem's Holy Laws , for we are to be Holy To HaShem Always , keeping separate and Kosher , away and far from that which is Forbidden and not Commanded By HaShem , to be a Jewish People , separate from other people , keeping Holy , As HaShem Is Holy . This is not a means for us to be arrogant at all , Chas Ve Shalom . We are not to go around being arrogant . HaShem Has Chosen us for a very special task , a task that we ourselves chose through Avraham , that he himself chose HaShem and realized the truth of HaShem's Oneness and so , as he did , so are we to do , to be a Light unto the Nations , to teach them the Truth Of The Oneness Of G-D and to teach the way to follow Him And Him Only In Truth . We must start with ourselves , just as the Kohein Gadol starts with his own Offering , to cleanse and purify himself , before others , in following HaShem's Very Holy Laws And Keeping HaShem's Very Holy Days and being ever so humble and quick to correct ourselves and Keep HaShem's Holy Day of Atonement , Yom Kippur , The Day That HaShem Forgave us . Torah Is A Light That Guides us Through this stormy sea of Physicality , like the lighthouse that guides a ship back home , So Is The Holy Torah The Only Way to get to The Light Of HaShem . Torah Is our Lighthouse That Steers us home To HaShem , Into His Loving Arms . We are to be a Holy people To HaShem . We are to keep our Gift That Is Given By HaShem , A Gift That HaShem Gave us With So Much Love , The Gift Of Israel , to be a Holy Land , where we follow HaShem's Holy Gift Of Torah , As HaShem Asks of us . We are in every way and at every moment , to emulate HaShem , in all that we do and in all that we are . HaShem's Spark Is Within us all and every action that we do , must be a representative Of The Goodness Of HaShem Always . We are HaShem's Representatives and so must we act accordingly , to be Holy , As HaShem Is Holy . Let us all Love HaShem as we should love Him and show HaShem how much we do love Him , by doing everything That HaShem Asks Of us To Do and being everything That HaShem Wants Of us To Be , For HaShem Has Given us His Beautiful Holy Torah Of Light , For With HaShem's Love , HaShem And His Holy Torah Will Carry us Home . Our home Is With HaShem . May we all always emulate HaShem and Rest Securely and Safely in HaShem's Tender Loving Care . I dedicate this Torah Post to my beloved Ima a"h . May my Ima's most special Neshoma Be Blessed to be in Gan Eiden And Shamayim Close To HaShem HaKadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . Our Parsha this Shabbos Rosh Chodesh Iyar is a Double Parsha of Tazria and Metzora . So on this Shabbos we read the Torah Portions of Tazria and Metzorah and the Maftir is for Rosh Chodesh and is in Bamidbar Numbers 28 : 9 - 15 and the Haftorah is for Rosh Chodesh and is in Yeshayahu Isaiah 66 : 1 - 24 . Parashas Tazria starts out by discussing a Woman's Conception and the period of contamination for a male or female child afterwards . When a male gets born , he is to be circumcised on the eighth day . For a certain period , the Mother is to have a separation period of purity . Torah Tells us that if she has a male child , that period is half the time of a female child , thus for a male child , she is contaminated for 7 days and for 33 days she shall remain in blood of purity , not being able to touch anything holy or enter the Sanctuary until her days of purity are completed ( thus a total of 7 + 33 = 40 days ) and if she has a female child , she will be contaminated for two weeks and for 66 days , she shall remain in blood of purity ( thus a total of 14 + 66 = 80 days ) . Our Rabbis say that the time is doubled for a female child because it takes forty days for the lifeform to develop into a male and 80 days for the lifeform to develop into a female . How interesting that the forty days minimun that it takes , is the same amount of time that Moshe was up each of the three times on Har Sinai and also during the Mabul , The Flood in Noach's time , it rained for 40 days and 40 nights , which as my dear beloved Ima a"h said suggests that this period of 40 is a time given to make that which is within it , purified . When her days of purity are completed , the Mother is to bring an Elevation Offering and a Sin Offering . The reason for the two offerings , are because during her labor , she may have , due to the pain , sworn an oath never to live with her husband again and also , she brings an Offering in lieu of Chava , for whose actions , women suffer in childbirth and thus every child bearing Woman can thus atone for Chava Eve . Also , she atones for any negative feelings she may have had against her husband and even negative feelings she may have had against HaShem , Chas Ve Shalom . This is when a Woman " Tazria , " - " Conceives . " We look all the time for Miracles From HaShem And Every Day HaShem Blesses us With Creation , A Most Amazing Miracle . We do not realize The Wonderful Beautiful Miracle That HaShem Gives us , in childbirth . When it is time To Bring the Soul To the baby to come , HaShem Calls the Malach Angel Layla to bring the soul , either out of Shamayim or Gan Eiden or the Gaf ( a Holding Place of Souls ) , that soul that will go into that baby . Though the soul does not want to leave its Holy Place of rest , HaShem Instructs the Soul that in order to earn merit , that soul needs to come into a Physical Body and so gain merit and raise itself In Holiness , by keeping HaShem's Mitzvos . What a Beautiful Miracle . Even while it is within its Mother , HaShem Performs So Many Miracles For it . The very heat within the Mother would be impossible for a human being to stand for so long , But HaShem Miraculously Protects it , For He Is At The Birth Of Every Life-Form In His Creation . The Position in which the Life-form lies within the Mother , Is A Miracle , for gravity alone would make it fall out , Yet HaShem Miraculously Keeps it In , Until The Time Is Ready For it To Be Born . HaShem Directs Toward it , all its necessary food and when it Is Born By HaShem , HaShem Miraculously Gives the Mother the power to feed it milk from her very own body , the healthiest of all for her baby . The Life-form if it would have waste products from its nourishment within , would under other circumstances , hurt the Mother , But HaShem Miraculously Takes Care Of That . The very act of conceiving a child , from a small part from the Mother and a drop from the Father , for that to form a child , with all its faculties and everything it needs to grow into the adult , Is Such A Great Miracle Of HaShem . Oh yes , Conception Is Such A Continuing Miracle Of The Almighty , Praised And Forever Blessed Be His Beautiful And Beloved Name . From this point on in this Parsha of Tazria and into the next Parsha of Metzora , Tzaraas is discussed and all its allied impurities that can come on the skin or body part of a person and also is discussed , Afflictions on Garments and if in Israel , on houses , where if it appeared on a house , if it came to having to remove stones from the house , the previous Canaanite tenants who had hidden their precious items in the walls to hide from us , their hidden wares would then be revealed . HaShem Sends Tzaraas For 10 different kinds of Aveirahs being :- Idolworship , Murder , Immorality , Performing a Chillul HaShem - A Desecration of HaShem's Name , Robbery , Greed and having an evil eye , Making a Vain Oath , Conceit and Arrogance , Loshon Horah - Slander ( the main reason ) and Doing something not allowed by the person who does it - like a king performing the rites of a Kohain . The Parsha of Metzora goes through the cleansing process for Tzaraas of different types , mentioned in Parashas Tazria . The very word Metzora , has within it the words , ' Motzi Sham Ra , ' - ' the defamer . ' Such is what a Loshoner is . The main sin that Tzaraas Is Sent for , is Loshon Horah . Parashas Metzora also mentions the discharges that are impure for a male and for a female , including within this Parsha the Laws of Niddah for the Woman and the Parsha ends reminding us that the Children of Israel shall be separated from their contamination , so that we not die , not to contaminate HaShem's Sanctuary That Is Among us . So ends the Parshas . As I mentioned , the main sin that Tzaraas is sent for is Loshon Horah , for basically defaming someone or others . Tzaraas is not modern day Leprosy . Both are very different . Modern day Leprosy comes out with black swellings , whereas Tzaraas Afflictions are impure when they are white or flesh exposed within or two white hairs . Tzaraas is very much A Spiritual Affliction Sent By HaShem , to manifest Physically, for wrongs done . In that day and time , the Sins we did Were Manifest Upon us on our bodies , or out of mercy sometimes , first on one's garment or house , only in Israel ( but not in Yerushalayim ) . A person who may have been miserly , claiming he has nothing to give others but in reality does have , may have Tzaraas Appear On his house in Israel so that he would have to remove first all of his possessions from the house before the Kohain comes and possibly declares his house Impure Tamei . Thus all would see that he was being miserly and does have what to help others . The possessions had to be removed first so that they would not be declared Tamei along with the house when the house is declared Tamei , for once the House is declared Tamei , then all things within it , are too . Loshon Horah is a very grave sin . It hurts without warning . A person who Loshons , is an abomination To HaShem And HaShem Says That such a person cannot abide in Creation alongside HaShem , for such a person denies The Way HaShem Creates a person His Way and the Loshoner tries to refashion that person in his own negative image . Thus the Loshoner is akin to an idol worshipper who makes himself out to be a creator of the person loshoned , in his own negative view and image , Chas Ve Shalom . There Is Only One Creator And That Is HaShem HaKadosh Baruch Hu HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He . The very first one to do the sin of Loshon Horah , was the Nachash , the Snake , in Gan Eiden in the Beginning , with the Angel Samael within it . Samael blasphemed and Loshoned HaShem and so , caused Adam Ve Chava to sin and eat that which they were commanded not to eat and so , was the woman punished with painful childbirth and impurity , which both Adam Ve Chava now had ( impurity ) . So Parashas Tazria and Parashas Metzora , do have a link together with regards the impurity of conceiving , for the Woman as well as Tzaraas and Metzora and Loshoning , which was first committed by the Nachash Snake with Samael . What was the snake's punishment ? To crawl in the very dust that was its words , for such are the words of Loshon Horah and slander , that is akin to speaking dust . The snake's tongue was also split and separated , just like Loshon Horah and Slander separates people from others , who are spoken badly about . The Snake , which once stood upright and regal , was made to crawl on its belly and from it's arrogance and conceit , a trait of the one who commits Loshon Horah , it was forced to be lowered and was humbled . Loshon Horah hurts three people , the Loshoner , the Listener to the Loshon Horah and the Victim who is the one spoken about . A story is told of a man who came before a Judge , for he had bad mouthed his neighbor and it had caused harm to his neighbor and the perpetrator was seeking and pleading with the Judge , for a way to make up for it and atone . The Judge told him to take pieces of paper and to write upon them words about himself and to go out into the street and to throw them into the wind and to come back to the Judge the next day . The man did this and came back to the Judge the next day and asked the Judge if he can now be forgiven . The Judge told him , only if he can go back to where he threw the pieces and collect every single one of them . The man said that this is impossible as by now , the wind has carried them to places he can not possible collect them back from , or know of where . The Judge responded that so it is the same with Loshon Horah and Slander , for it is impossible to retract what one has said and it is impossibly to possibly know how far , in the wind , has a person's slanderous words traveled and they can never be retrieved or retracted , for rumours carry and even when the truth comes out , not every one will believe it . No wonder , a bird is one of the offerings brought for Cleansing from Tzaraas , as birds often chirp and chatter in the open , just like Loshon Horah chatters constanly in the open - so say our Rabbonim . Even in Dovid Ha Melech's time , a man slandered Mefiboshes , son of David's beloved friend Jonathon and this ended up starting the punishment that ended in the final split of the Tribes of Israel after Shlomo's Son Rechavam separated the kingdoms . Slander is a very grave sin . Even Shlomo Hamelech said in Mishlei that " Death and Life are in the hands of the Tongue . " It is no wonder that the Punishment for Loshon Horah is impurity and forced distance from other people and obvious signs of impurity , for that is exactly what the Loshoner did to others , by making them look impure and wrong to others and by their evil talk and tongue , caused distance between others , so now the one afflicted by Tzaraas for Loshon Horah , must be alone and isolated and call out Tamei Tamei Impure Impure . We lost our Holy Temples because of Loshon Horah and Groundess Hatred among our brethren . A Sword can kill one , but a word can kill many . " Loshon Horah " - " Evil Tongue Speech " is Murder to the one spoken about . In fact Loshon Horah has within it the breaking of every one of the Ten Commandments . It blasphemes HaShem's Name , for it attacks HaShem's Creation , the way HaShem Made a person . It is like Idol worship , for it puts the Loshoner in the place of one who wants to recreate another person in a way That HaShem Did Not Create them , For HaShem Is The Only Creator . To Loshon , is to doubt HaShem , Chas Ve Shalom and His Creation as Creator . To Loshon , is to take HaShem's Name in Vain , showing no respect For What And How HaShem Created things . To Loshon , is to show HaShem that the Loshoner is arrogantly trying to make his own false creation , thus denying HaShem As Creator , which is exactly the opposite of what Shabbos Testifies , that we keep Shabbos , which also acknowledges That HaShem Created the other six days . If one can Loshon others , then one can be brought to the stage of Loshoning one's own Parents , thus dishonoring them , Chas Ve Shalom . Loshoning can kill a person's character and other's opinion of the one Loshoned and also embarrasses them , causing blood to drain from their face which Halachically , is akin to murder . Loshon Horah brings about unfaithfulness by others to the one Loshoned , which is akin to adultery . Loshon Horah , causes theft of a person's real character , akin to kidnapping their real character . Certainly , Loshon Horah causes the bearing of False Witness against the one Loshoned , putting them wrongly in a way that they are not . Loshon Horah causes hatred of the one Loshoned , by those who listen to it and the listeners can thus be caused to covet the one Loshoned . Thus Loshon Horah Evil Tongue , breaks all the Ten Commandments and thus Every Law Of HaShem Given on Har Sinai . Also , Seeing As HaShem Created the World With Ten Pronouncements , Loshon Horah Directly Attacks HaShem's Creation And The Fact That HaShem Created the World With Ten Pronouncements , for as I mentioned , it breaks every one of the Ten Commandments . So is the Punishment for Tzaraas , for ten types of Aveirah as I mentioned . HaShem Put the tongue behind the barriers of the teeth and gums in and of the mouth , so as to keep it in check . The tongue is the only muscle in the body that has horizontal freedom . HaShem Thus Gave us Barriers to the tongue , the Teeth and Gums of the Mouth to help us keep it in check . Yet HaShem Allowed us the easiest ability to earn Mitzvos with our Speech in Holy Talk , By Allowing the tongue muscle , the freedom to speak . So HaShem Wants us to Guard our Tongue , But Still Mercifully Gives us a way to easily earn many Mitzvos , by using the easy moving tongue , made in a resting horizontal position , to be easily able to speak Words Of Holiness Of Torah . We must thus not change it around , but must ensure that we take HaShem's Safeguards and Guard our Tongue from Loshon Horah , but Easily Speak holy words , by learning much Holy Torah and thus make this World a World Of Holy Torah Love And Harmony , Where HaShem Can Be Made Welcome With Love Always . So if we stop Committing the very big sin of Loshon Horah and if we all start keeping HaShem's Commandments fully , we will stop being afflicted with Tzaraas in forms that we do not actually realize is actually like Tzaraas and we can go back to the Beginning , where child birth was painless and there was no impurity . It is within our reach . All we have to do , is What HaShem Wants us to do . All we Have to do , is follow HaShem , in our total love and obedience . Gan Eiden and Shamayim are so reachable . If only we would just reach up to HaShem and all of us Obey HaShem With Deepest Love . HaShem Made us In Total Love . Let us follow HaShem In Total Love . May All of Creation , thank and follow HaShem With Total Love . Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Shemini and this Parsha starts out on the Eighth day after the Seven days of the Inauguration period , for the Mishkan . It was on this day , the First of Nissan , that Aharon would now take over permanently as Kohein Gadol , after Moshe officiated for the past seven days . The Haftorah for this Sedra is II Shmuel Samuel 6 : 1 - 7 : 17 and the Haftorah also deals with the Holy Ark and how the Holy Ark would be brought to the Holy City of Yerushalayim and also the tragedy of Uzzah , just as the tragedy of Aharon's two sons Nadav and Avihu . Aharon was reluctant to take up the position of Kohein Gadol , as he still felt unworthy , not just because of his humility , but he also felt very bad about the whole incident of the golden calf , but Moshe assured him that this is What HaShem Wants For him to be Kohein Gadol . Aharon's position of Kohein Gadol was Chosen By HaShem long before , When HaShem Was Speaking To Moshe At The Burning Bush and Moshe kept humbly refusing And So It Was Then That HaShem Chose To Make Aharon the Kohein Gadol . Aharon also felt uncomfortable because as he approached the Mizbayach - The Altar , he saw a vision of a calf , thus reminding him of the Chait Ha Eigel - the golden calf . Some of our Sages teach us that this vision , though having another positive reason , could actually have been perceived by Aharon negatively because of a negative force that was trying to keep him from serving HaShem , while other Sages feel that it was a vision of what Korban would be needed to be brought to start his service . No doubt , he was to bring a young bull for a Chatas - Sin Offering and a ram for an Elevation Offering unblemished , thus to atone first for his part in the Chait Ha Eigel . A man who is to bring Korbanos - Offerings ( where the word ' Karov ' - Closeness ' is within the word " Korbanos " ) and help atone for others , must first cleanse himself . A man who is set to bring Closeness Between HaShem And the People , must first take that step of rectifying to bring his own closeness To HaShem , himself . Also on that first day , for the Children of Israel , was to be brought a he-goat for a Chatas Sin Offering and a calf and sheep for a Peace Offering , so that Atonement could be brought for what the brothers did to Yosef long ago , where they dipped his tunic into goat's blood . The Temple Altar was to bring Closeness Between HaShem And the Children of Israel and so that begins with peace among our people and thus the sin of what was done between brothers , in our people , had to be atoned for , So Peace Could Be Between HaShem And us . This Sedra continues with the Offerings and after all had been done for this Inauguration , Moshe and Aharon still waited For HaShem's Fire To Descend , But It Did Not . Aharon Blessed the people . Aharon humbly felt it was because of him That HaShem's Fire Did Not Descend and Aharon asked Moshe why he was put in the position of Kohein Gadol if he and his work was not accepted . Moshe and Aharon both fell on their faces To HaShem . Only when both brothers Moshe and Aharon entreated HaShem , Did HaShem's Fire Descend From Before HaShem And Consume the Elevation Offerings and the fats on the Mizbayach Altar . Thus showing us that we are to work equally with our fellow Jews in Serving HaShem , Within Creation . The people had much rejoicing , feeling that Now HaShem Had Forgiven them For the Chait Ha Eigel And That Now HaShem Would Again Be In our midst . On this day of such great joy , tragedy occurred . The Parsha starts out with the words " Vayehi Bayom , " which often in Torah starts out a sad happening . We see this in Bereishis 14 : 1 where Avraham is about to go to war against the kings . We see these words also at the beginning of the book of Ruth , just before the famine . We see these words also in the Book of Esther , when introducing Achashveiros and we see it here in this Parsha , which describes the tragic event of the death of Aharon's two sons Nadav and Avihu . Aharon's two sons were very holy , as were all of Aharon's sons very holy . Nadav and Avihu were of great stature , seen even within their names , for within Nadav's name is the word ' Nedivus ' - which refers to his honourable rank and within Avihu's name is the name ' Av ' like a father of his people . The only thing that these two sons of Aharon lacked , was a bit of the necessary humility . They both boldly decided on their own at the same time , each on their own thoughts to take their fire-pans , without an order From HaShem , or checking with their Rebbe Moshe or their Father Aharon first and they put their own fire in them , thus discounting HaShem's Fire On the Mizbayach and they placed Ketores Incense upon them and thus brought an alien fire , discounting HaShem's Fire , on the Mizbayach . They also never wore the Me'il , which had bells at the bottom , put there for when entering the Holy Place , so the Angels within , would know to leave and thus not affect the one entering by their spiritual holiness , thus they entered unprotected , into a Place Frequented by holy beings . A Fire Came Forth From HaShem And Consumed them and they died before HaShem . Thus it wasn't as though HaShem Killed them as such , but rather that by their own choice , they entered The Holy Place and did not announce their entering with the bells on the Me'il , before the holy Malachim within could leave and so , by their own action of doing that which was not their place to do , they caused their own demise . Only the one That HaShem Allows into this Holy Place , is permitted within . In mentioning the actions of Nadav and Avihu , I already mentioned a few of the wrong things that they did , but there was more . At an earlier time , at Har Sinai , when the Elders stood up higher on the Mountain , When HaShem Came Down , both Nadav and Avihu , yearning for closeness With HaShem , stood higher too , on the Mountain , thus not displaying the necessary humility . HaShem Already Then , Had Set them to die , But Held Out , as at that time it was not the time to bring tragedy to such a joyous and holy event As HaShem Meeting His people . So their punishment was held out till now , at the time that started the Temple service , the time where Atoning would take place . So it also shows How Merciful HaShem Is , For Waiting Till now , till they again displayed a lack of humility . Also , at the time of the Chait Ha Eigel , HaShem Was Angry With Aharon , even though Aharon did not fashion the calf with his own hands and even though Aharon said to the people , " A festival for HaShem Tomorrow , " thus faithfully believing In HaShem and that Moshe would return , HaShem Still Felt Upset With Aharon And Told Moshe That He Would Remove all his sons , Sending Out Destructive Angels to do this . Moshe Pleaded for his brother and his brother's sons And So HaShem Relented And Agreed To Keep two of Aharon's sons alive . Moshe continued to pray and hoped HaShem Might Relent . But when Nadav and Avihu again did not display the needed and correct humility and brought their own fire , Even Though HaShem's Fire Was Already a fact On the Mizbayach , HaShem Punished them By Fire Consuming them . Aharon was silent . Our Sages debated how this was so , that Aharon could remain silent at such a sad event , at the death of two of his sons . Aharon , being the Kohein Gadol , had to live by certain Laws , even though in mourning and this included his remaining sons Elazar and Ithamar . But within , Aharon felt the turmoil and self - blame , for he blamed himself and his actions at the Chait Ha Eigel , for his two sons having to die . Even Though HaShem Had Not Said it was for that reason , Aharon himself felt guilty and blamed himself . Aharon within , questioned the reason for this happening And HaShem Answered Him In Love And HaShem Compassionately Let Aharon Know That Nadav and Avihu were now in a position they so desired to be , Close To HaShem , For The Holy Torah States , " I Will Be Sanctified Through those who are nearest Me . " Thus Aharon was silent Seeing From HaShem , that his beloved sons Nadav and Avihu , were very holy and were now ' nearest HaShem . " Moshe summoned Aharon's cousins Mishael and Elzaphan and had them remove the bodies of Nadav and Avihu , with metal rods , for they could not enter The Place Of Holiness . Because Aharon kept silent and accepted HaShem's Judgement , HaShem Rewarded Aharon And Spoke to Aharon Directly , That no intoxicating wine was to be drunk when he or his sons come into the Ohel Mo'ed - The Tent of Meeting , lest they die , for Nadav and Avihu , had drunk more than the permitted Revi'is of Wine , before they had entered , another Aveirah that they had done . We read the portion in Acharei Mos , on Yom Kippur , which refers to the death of Aharon's two sons , for the death of the Righteous , can atone for the People , in the generation . The Holy Torah Continues With Instructions of more Offerings . A dispute occurred between Moshe and Aharon , where Moshe questioned why his sons had totally burnt the Rosh Chodesh Offering instead of partaking of part of it , for Moshe assumed they did not partake of the offering , because they were onnanim - mourners . Aharon told Moshe that seeing as this was an Inauguration day , it was to be totally burnt and Moshe , showing his humility , agreed with him . The Parsha then focuses on one of our Holiest Laws . That of Kashrus . Kashrus keeps us separate from others and also guards us from intermixing and marrying out of our Jewish Faith and thus losing our Jewishness , Chas Ve Shalom . HaShem Commands that only animals that have a totally split hoof right through and that chew the cud , are Kosher . We note that domestic animals and not wild animals are Kosher , For HaShem Wants To Instil In us , a quietude and not a wildness , within our characters . HaShem Mentions that there are only four animals that either display one or the other trait and these four animals are the camel , the hyrax , the hare and the pig ( the pig being like Amalek Edom , that holds up its outer show , its feet - hands to show it might look Kosher , but inside , not chewing the cud , it is totally un Kosher - totally Treifah ) . Scientists once did a check World-wide to try and find if there were any other animals besides these , that displayed one or the other trait and came to the conclusions , that in the whole World , only these four had one or the other trait . Only HaShem Who Knows What the trait of any and every animal is , Could Have Known such a fact , To Only Write these four animals and no other . HaShem's Torah , Straight From HaShem Only . HaShem Then Tells us which Fish are Kosher . Those that have Fins and Scales in the water , in the seas and in the streams . HaShem Then Instructs on which Birds are Kosher and Gives us a list of the wild birds that kill and so , such traits are not Kosher . Torah Mentions the wild birds that are not Kosher , for the list that are Kosher would be more . HaShem Then Instructs On the Insects that are and are not And Continues To Teach About other creatures too and contamination , on things touching their carcasses . For we are to be a holy people unto The L-RD our G-D , Sanctifying ourselves and becoming holy , For HaShem Is Holy . For it Is HaShem Who Elevates us from the land of Egypt , That HaShem Is G-D Unto us and unto all Creation That HaShem Created Alone As The One And Only G-D And As HaShem Says , " you shall be holy , For I Am Holy . " So ends the Parsha . This Parsha is called " Shemini , " which means " Eighth . " This was the final Eighth day , after the preparations of setting up and dismantling the Mishkan every day for the seven preparation days before-hand , when on the Eighth day , on the First of Nissan , the Mishkan was finally set up to and for Aharon the Kohein Gadol to do his Avodas HaShem . The Number Eight in Judaism has always referred to Holiness . We are , right now , at this time of the Jewish Calendar and Year , between Pesach and Shavuos , every evening counting the Omer . We count 49 days , which is Seven weeks and then , the day after , that Fiftieth day ( like the Seven years of Shemittah Sabbatical Years and Seven of them counted , makes the next year , that Fiftieth Year , a Yovel Jubilee Year ) , like that supposed - Eighth Day ( that day or year after the Sevens ) , is Shavuot , which was The Holy Day On Which HaShem Came Down On Har Sinai And Gave us His Beautiful Torah With His Eternal Love , thus it was and so is , the number Eight , a day of Revelation . Between Pesach , after we left Mitzrayim Egypt , a place lowest in Spiritual Purity , a place highest in Spiritual degradation , we needed these Seven Weeks and 49 days ( like the 49 Levels or Gates of Holiness that exist that Moshe climbed ) , to spiritually better ourselves and purify ourselves , as we headed toward the Holy Day of Shavuos , on which we would receive HaShem's Revelation On That Fiftieth day ( the day after the sevens - which is , the Eighth Day ) and so we would have , by then purified ourselves and climbed Spiritually , To Meet HaShem . It is also on the Eighth day , that a Jewish boy is to be given a Bris Circumcision , to come into The Covenant Of HaShem . This is such a Holy Mitzvah , that it is even done on Shabbos , if that turns out to be the Eighth day . Adam Ha Rishon ( as was Moshe ) , Was Created circumcised As HaShem Wants It To Be and thus this Eighth Day is a Sweet Continuation of how it was to be at the beginning of Creation , for had Adam Ve Chava not sinned , then after that first Shabbos , life and all things would have been Eternal And Close To And In The Loving Arms Of HaShem . That day after the Shabbos Day would have been the Eighth Day from Creation's Beginning . The Eternal Shabbos . Moshiach , as I have mentioned many times in other writings , has a Gematriah of Seven and is to come , if we have not become worthy yet , at the end of the 6000 years ( 6093 to be exact ) , which matches being at the ' Day in Creation ' of that ' Sixth Day of Creation . ' And after that , like in the period after ' 6 ' , which is ' 7 , ' Mashiach is to come . Thus the period of Moshiach , is as the period of Sevens . The Spiritual Time That Will Come After That , Is as the Spiritual Time , of the " Eights . " Thus the Spiritual Time of this ' Eight - Period , ' Is To Be A Time Of Revelation Of HaShem , That Is To Come After the coming of Mashiach . The Day of the Final Inauguration , at the End of Days , is thus related to this Inauguration in our Parsha , which also took place on the " Shemini " - " Eighth " Day . The Day of HaShem's Revelation . Within the word " Shemini , " are the words ' Shemi Ni , ' which , In Reference To HaShem , would mean ' My Name ( HaShem ) Is My Thanks . ' Thus within this Final Eighth Day , Will Be HaShem's Revelation and our true and proper Appreciation and Thanks For What HaShem Did , Does And Has Always Done , Which , at the End of Days , we will truly understand . We will really see In All HaShem's Beauty , All That HaShem Has Done And Why HaShem Did The Things That He Did and We will then truly appreciate All That HaShem Did , for then we will understand the meaning of what had to be . It will be then , that we will truly appreciate HaShem And His Total Goodness and realize how appreciative and thankful we should have always been . We cannot now fully understand existence . But at the End of Days , we will understand better and realize how much we should have been thankful To HaShem . It is so important to thank and bless HaShem . We do not realize how important it is . If we would all Acknowledge and Thank HaShem Only , that action alone , of our appreciation , could bring on the End of Days . It is so important to say our Brochas and Thanks To HaShem every day , every moment and all the time . That ' Thanking - ' Todah , ' of HaShem , ' is within that number " Shemini " - " Eighth , " and the Bringing On Of The End Of Days , where the Hebrew Word ' Todah , ' is 400 + 6 + 4 + 5 = 415 and 4 + 1 + 5 = 10 and 1 + 0 = 1 , the number of completion where we Join HaShem's Oneness and bring Creation , Which Was Created With HaShem's Ten Pronouncements , to It's Final End , at the End Of Days and so , is Appreciation , a pathway To Bring HaShem's Revelation . We must always Thank and Bless HaShem . We must always Appreciate HaShem . We must always Follow HaShem Only . That Will Bring in that Final Eighth Day - That Final " Shemini , " that Final Calling of Moshiach , to usher in the End Of Days And The Sweet Closeness Of HaShem's Revelation , to Finally live Within HaShem's Closest Love And Care . Thank You HaShem With Eternal Love For All That You Have Done , For All That You Do And For All That You Will Do . Thank You HaShem For You . Our Beautiful Shabbos comes out this year on Chol Ha Moed Pesach Passover . How Special Is Shabbos and now also at this time can we remember How HaShem Freed us Jews From Mitzrayim With HaShem's Ever Loving Care . At this time , we can come close To HaShem , as we should always be and the very fact of us getting our physical freedom from Egypt By HaShem on Pesach , can culminate in us freeing ourselves totally Physically , to let our Neshoma soar up To HaShem And Be Totally Surrounded By HaShem's Light , freeing ourselves to serve HaShem in totality , as we were to do in Gan Eiden , just like the World To Come Olam Habah Will Be , when we will return To HaShem's Closeness In Love . The Torah reading for this Holy Shabbos Pesach is in Shemos Exodus 33 : 12 - 34 : 26 and the Maftir is in Bamidbar Numbers 28 : 19 - 25 and the Haftorah for this portion of Shabbos Chol Ha Moed of Pesach is in Yechezkel Ezekiel 37 : 1 - 14 . And seeing that this is Shabbos Chol Ha Moed , we also read Shir Ha Shirim Song Of Songs written by Shlomo Ha Melech , a beautiful writing of Love For HaShem , Who Showed us His Love In Freeing us From bondage To freedom at this time of Passover , Bringing us Under HaShem's Wings Of Love Of Torah . HaShem Brought us Jews To Him With So Much Love . We had come into Egypt originally when Yosef , Yaakov's son who had been sold into slavery by his brothers , had been brought to Egypt and after first working for Potiphar ( his name by the Egyptians meaning ' the mutilated one ' for he no longer could have children ) , Yosef had been wrongly accused , due to Potiphar's evil wife Zulaicha desiring and chasing him day after day and when she finally realized that he would never succumb to her , then she made false charges against Yosef that had him put for many years in prison only able at night times , to allow him out to still serve in Potiphar's home where she still continued to harass him . Yosef , Through HaShem's Intervention Only Came Out Of prison when he , Through HaShem , interpreted Pharaoh's dreams and was appointed viceroy of Egypt . With The Help Of HaShem , Yosef saved the country from the years of famine with his plans , Enlightened By HaShem which also caused his Father and brothers to then come and settle in the land of Goshen in Egypt ( an area originally given to Sarah by a previous Pharaoh when Avram and Sarai had gone there ) and so , we as a Jewish People came to Mitzrayim . A new Pharaoh arose in Egypt ( some opinions state that it was the same Pharaoh , but with changed ideals to suit and curry favour with his advisors ) after the passing of Yosef and his brothers and that entire generation and the Egyptians quickly and conveniently ignored and forgot How Much HaShem and Yosef and us Jews had done for the country and so , to allay their concern that we might join their enemies , Pharaoh and the Egyptians , knowing our ways of Chessed of giving kindness and being charitable , deceitfully advertised a new building program that they made out would be a great help to the country , knowing we as Jews would always volunteer to help . Pharaoh himself even went out in the beginning of this 'supposed project ' to show how important a task it was in order to advertise this deceitful plan and went so far as to even take a spade in his hand as if to make a show that he was also digging and getting involved in the deceitful project . Pharaoh had Egyptians also volunteer , who every day would get less and less , until only Jews were left at the work and to work areas that really could never get finished in swampy land and the Jews found day after day how the Egyptians dwindled and we Jews suddenly found ourselves under whipping taskmasters who were instructed to work us day and night in the fields and in their homes . Men were savagely beaten and killed . The plan was to destroy our menfolk Chas Ve Shalom and take our women for the dirty Egyptians and their debauchery and also to try and deceitfully prevent husbands and wives from being together and procreating our Jewish Nation In Holiness . These evil Egyptians went so far as to throw all our male babies that were born ( including some of their own ) , into the Nile river , when their astrologers said a redeemer would come to us and would be destroyed by water . How they read this wrong ( for the only water that had affected Moishe was the decree later in his life at the Waters of Meriva when he struck the rock ) and so , beautiful new born Moishe Avigdor was put in the Nile to make the Egyptians think that they had thrown the redeemer into the Nile , which was obviously not the case . This Moishe grew up to be HaShem's Chosen Messenger , for Moishe's actions and morals , holiness and caring throughout his life led him on the path to leadership , for he showed that even when one little sheep , one little lamb runs away , he would care even for that one little lamb and go out to search for it and when finding it , pat it ever so softly and pick it up and carry it ever so gently , on his shoulders , back to the other sheep . Such a holy humble man , showed Hashem how if he can be so caring of one little sheep , one little lamb , how much more so would he care For HaShem's Chosen People Israel , Who Are HaShem's sheep , Hashem's flock , HaShem's little lambs . Such a holy humble caring Jew , HaShem Saw , must be the one HaShem Chooses to lead us Jews out of Mitzrayim , His Jewish people Israel , His Flock , His little lambs . It was on this Pesach Yom Yom Festival , After Ten Plagues That HaShem Sent Against Egypt , That HaShem Freed us Jews From the bondage of Egypt and its physicalities And HaShem Brought us our Pesach Time Of Freedom . HaShem Instructed us on this day to tell our children Of The Exodus From Mitzrayim and so on the Seder nights , we do just that , on our Passover Seders Of Pesach Passover . Such A night That we had our First Holy Meal like our First Seder Night And Were Freed , we are to never forget , The Time When HaShem Took His Legions ( Us Jews ) Out Of Egypt . Such is the day of our Passover . This period And Full Festival Of Pesach starts on the night before we went free and we commemorate right up until the time we were not ever to be bothered by the Egyptians when the Egyptians drowned in the Yam Suf . That was the end of them enslaving us at that time . HaShem's Final straw with Egypt When His Time Of our Redemption From Egypt Came , Was When HaShem Saw how Pharaoh was going to bathe in the blood of our murdered children , some of those of our people that had not been put into their walls among bricks . How cruel and low these Egyptians were . Egypt was called Mitzrayim , which means ' borders , ' for once a person came to Egypt , they were locked in and could not leave , unless Pharaoh gave permission . These Egyptians were the lowest negativity of a people at the time , the lowest in morals . Thus Pesach is also a reminder to free ourselves from any form of negative behaviour , not just the Chometz in bread , but also the Chometz of arrogant verbosity and lack of humility within ourselves and our actions , for we must always be holy and humble , humbly following HaShem And His Holy Torah Commandments Only . HaShem Asked us to mark our doorposts , Even Though HaShem Knew Full Well Who was Jewish , but Left it up to us even then to choose HaShem and not foreign ways Chas Ve Shalom . The Unleavened Bread Matzah that we took with us out of Egypt , not having time for the dough to rise , was so precious to us , that we kept it close to us on our shoulders , yet the valuable silver and gold , we left on our donkeys . The idea of Leaven , that we are to remove from our homes is also a lesson to remove from ourselves ego and arrogance and to be ever humble , as I mentioned , Before HaShem And HaShem's Torah Commandments . The whole way of Egypt was one of leaven arrogance and that is the path away from HaShem . Thus we are to choose HaShem and so must we remove any trace of arrogance that leads to self love and idol worshiping Chas Ve Shalom . This night of Passover , throughout history , is a night related to our freedom from enemies . As an example , it was on this night that in Megillat Esther , haman had come into the courtyard to hurt us , by wanting to talk to the king about killing Mordechai , but on this night , our conditions there in Shushan were turned around and haman found himself having to humble himself to his enemy . HaShem , On This Night , Turned our future Into one of rejoicing . Everything we do on the Passover Seder , like talking of our freedom as a nation and leaning to the left , is allied to also acting as a free people Only Under HaShem , For It Is Only Under HaShem That one can Truly Be Free . We remember on Passover the bitterness of our slavery in Egypt when we eat the Maror , the bitter herbs at the Seder . This is our Festival Of Freedom Under HaShem . Thus we also think forward to The Final Redemption when we put a part of the Matzah in hiding as the Afikoman , that comes out after the meal , to remind us of The Final Redemption . We also remember Eliyahu Ha Navi , who we pour a glass of wine or grape - juice for , hoping that he will usher in Moshiach and the Final Redemption that will take us Closer To HaShem . We drink four cups of wine to commemorate The Four Orders Made By HaShem In The Holy Torah to do with us being told to leave Egypt . We remember on this night other miracles That HaShem Performed For us , like Avraham overcoming the enemy , for it was on this Pesach Passover night in time that Og came and told Avram that Lot had been captured by the four kings against five and Og found Avram baking Matzah so it was Pesach night in time ( Og got his name from the word Uga which means cakes for when he came to Avram , Avram was busy baking them ) , even though Pesach had not yet come with our freedom from Egypt , Avraham kept the Torah even before It Was Given . It was also on Pesach night in time that the three Angels came to Avraham and Sarah , one of the Angels Malachim Michael to tell them of the birth of Yitzchak , who it is also thought was born on Pesach night and the other two Angels , the Malach Angel Gavriel who was , By HaShem's Hand to be the messenger of destruction for Sodom , Amorah , Admah and Zeboiim and the Malach Angel Rafael to take out Lot and his family from the city before the destruction . Also on Pesach Passover night in time , HaShem Sent Avimelech a dream not to touch Avram's wife Sarai . It was also on Passover night in time , That HaShem Warned Lavan not to hurt Yaakov . It was on Passover night in time that Yaakov wrestled with the Angel Samael till daybreak , just before meeting up with Eisav . It was on Passover night in time That HaShem Sent the Plague of the Slaying of the firstborn of Egypt and there were many firstborns in Egypt as the Egyptians had many firstborns , even among husbands and wives who were not faithful to their partners and so had many firstborns among their unfaithful relationships . It was on Passover Pesach night in time That HaShem Did destroy Sisera , our enemy . It was on Passover night in time , that Sannacherib's plans were frustrated . It was on Pesach Passover night in time that Daniel was given his vision of what he was shown . It was on Passover Pesach night in time that Belshazar was killed . It was on Passover Pesach night in time that Daniel was saved from the lions den . As I mentioned earlier, on Passover Pesach night in time , haman's evil was turned back on him , when he came to the King Achasvuerus to ask for Mordechai to be killed And HaShem Turned it around so that haman would have to parade Mordechai through the streets of Shushan . ( Seder Book Haggadah SAZF Appeal ) . It was thus also on Passover Pesach night in time That HaShem Disturbed the sleep and night of Achasvuerus , that Achasvuerus ended up asking for the annals and was told how Mordechai had saved him from Bigthan and Teresh , that same night haman came in to try hurt Mordechai and it was turned around on haman's own head . Yes , this Passover Night is a very Holy night On Which HaShem Has Many Times Throughout our Jewish History Saved our people . Yes this Passover Night is a very holy night and Yom Tov Festival and now holier for it is on Shabbos . HaShem Wants our closeness and we are constantly reminded of this In HaShem's Holy Torah . This Passover night and throughout The Holy Passover Yom Tov Festival , we remember That HaShem Took us Out Of Mitzrayim And How HaShem Keeps Saving us . This is the night of our Redemption . So as we sit this Holy Shabbos and Pesach Chol Ha Moed and as we sit on the First Nights Of Pesach Passover reading our Haggados at The Holy Seders , may we truly give ourselves over to true freedom , by turning completely to HaShem and following HaShem in Total Forever Eternal Love .
