Parashas Pinchas

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Pinchas.
Pinchas was the grandson of Aharon Ha Kohein Gadol. He took up his courage in saving his people and his teacher's honor. And brought peace between G-D and Israel. The leader of the Tribe of Simeon - Zimri Ben Salu did a terrible thing in front of Moshe Rabbeinu , when he brought the Midianite princess Cozbi daughter of Tzur into his tent immodestly. The Midianites and Moabites had ,on the instruction of Bilaam and Balak, set up a market with young females , to entice Israel to sin and worship their deity so as to get HaShem angry with Israel.A plague had broken out and it was due to the actions of Pinchas , that the plague was stayed. What did Pinchas do? He courageously picked up a spear that was in Moshe's possession and with great Emuna in HaShem , he walked toward Zimri's tent and pierced both Zimri the Simeonite and Cozbi , the Midianite with the spear ridding Israel if this immoral act, saving the honor of his teacher Moshe and greatest of all, calming HaShem's anger at Israel by bringing peace between G-D and His people .
This was a very courageous action for the Simeonites could have killed Pinchas but Pinchas put his own safety aside and put his life on the line for his Creator .For this action, HaShem truly Blessed Pinchas with the Blessing of long life , for Pinchas continued to live for a very long time .Infact , Pinchas was even one of the spies that Joshua sent into Yericho to spy out their city and report back .
The action of strength and courage of Pinchas ,standing up alone for right and morality and going into a camp of Simeonites who were very strong, showed bravery beyond question , for he could not stand the fact that HaShem and Moshe had been slighted.Even after he had killed Zimri and Cozbi with the spear, he came out of Zimri's tent and held them both up on the spear in the air to show what becomes of unholiness and immorality. After this action, the ppplague was stayed and peace again reigned between HaShem and His people .
This action of Pinchas bringing peace between G-D and Israel saw to it that HaShem gave Pinchas a very special Brocha . Our sages tell us that because Pinchas brought peace between G-D and Israel , Pinchas would be deserving of being the one who heralds Mashiach and so , Pinchas returned as Eliyahu Ha Navi who went up to Shamaim alive in a fiery chariot , to return as the harbinger of peace that will anoint the coming of Mashiach and as the prophet Malachi says, Eliyahu Ha Navi , will turn (in Mashiach's time ) the hearts of the Fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their Fathers - a task surely for a man of peace as Pinchas surely was.
We know that Eliyahu Ha Navi sometimes comes to Earth dressed as a poor beggar for alms , trying to get people to give Tzeddakah - This is truly a man of holiness .
HaShem so loved this righteous action of Pinchas that even HaShem showed us that HaShem humbled Himself with Pinchas , for in the Torah in this verse , when HaShem put in Pinchas' name , the 'Yud' in the name of Pinchas , which signifies the first letter of one of HaShem's Names , is written in Pinchas' name here, smaller than the letters around us , showing the honor and love that HaShem gave to Pinchas and his faithful action.
If we look closer at Pinchas' name here , the 'Pei' in front refers to the mouth of HaShem that Pinchas protected, and the Yud within his name for HaShem within and the letters left of his name spell the word 'Nachas,' which is the root to the words 'Nechsach,' which means ' To be Saved or spared,' and 'Nechsam' which means ' To be closed or blocked,' so putting this together,we get Pinchas spoke for HaShem's Mouth and spared and saved us and blocked and closed the plague.
Certainly, Pinchas was a truly holy man.
Pinchas , like Avraham both stood up against the many and proclaimed the one truth of HaShem and His Laws .
This is how HaShem Wants us to be. To have total faith in Him no matter what others around may be doing. HaShem wants us to stand up with bravery and courage and profess the truth and keep this World moral for HaShem 's Sake .
To be a true follower of G-D means to follow G-D and not the crowd like sheep .
To be a true follower of G-D means to stand up and profess HaShem's Torah , in this World amid the obstacles others may try to put in the way as people go their own way . We must be like Pinchas and Avraham , and profess the truth of G-D with courage , not because of getting a reward, but because of pure love of G-D .
To truly love G-D , is to truly stand by Him no matter what .
To truly love G-D as Pinchas and Avraham did , is to be the one that says no to the flow and ebb of those around who try to lead others astray .As our great Torah sage Hillel said, 'In a place where there are no leaders, strive to be a leader,' meaning that in a place of immorality and where people go their own way, strive to be the one to lead them back to the right path of The One And Only true G-D - G-D The One And Only Creator of all .
To truly love G-D , is to follow G-D and His Torah and to make this entire World holy for HaShem .
With love to HaShem, I wish HaShem with love a truly special and beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love and to all, a special beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love.

Parashas Balak

Our Parsha this week on the verge of the three weeks of mourning starting from the 17th of Tammuz till the 9th of Av , is Parashas Balak.
The Children of Israel have just defeated the mighty protectors of Moav,Sichon and Og and the Moabites were in fear of Israel.
They knew that Israel was led by Moshe, who had spent time in Midyan so they called on Balak, son of Tzippor who was half a Midyanite and half a Moabite, to lead them against Israel and asked him with what power, the Israelites are able to defeat their enemies. His answer was that their power exists in their mouth for whenever they pray to G-D , G-D answers them with victory so Balak decided to call Bilaam ,son of Beor ,who also had the powers of Tum'a in his mouth of cursing , to come and curse the Jewish people.Balak knew that Bilaam had power , for Bilaam had long ago told him that he would be leader of Moav and now it had come to pass.
Balak himself, was a man of power, for he knew the place to curse a nation, but did not know when the curse should be made , for it to be effective so he called Bilaam who was a master at cursing and evil , to come and curse the Jewish people. Balak was named son of Tzippor for he would use the tongue of a live bird and put it into a metal bird he had made and leave it on the window-sill for a few days until it would start to talk and tell him of future events. Balak though feared , that he was not powerful enough to wish harm against the Jews , for once, his metal bird flew away and when it came back a few days later, while it was still in flight, a flash of fire came out of Heaven and singed it.
Bilaam on the other hand was the grandson of Lavan, whom Yaakov had spent many years with. Bilaam at the time was also one of Par'o's (Pharoah's ) advisors and it was Bilaam who had made the suggestion to murder the Jewish male children and to throw them in the Nile.It was Bilaam who had advised Pharoah - Par'o to kill Moshe when Moshe was young after Moshe had picked up Pharoah's crown and put it on his head as a young child and Moshe had gotten tested with the piece of coal that burnt his mouth as a child. It was this same Bilaam, who had told Pharoah to bathe in the blood of Jewish children to clear his skin of leprosy, just before HaShem came to bring Moshe to redeem us. It was this same Bilaam , whose sons Yanus and Yumbrus had tagged along secretly with the Children of Israel when they left Egypt and through the powers of Tum'a , had caused the golden calf to emerge from the furnace when the gold was thrown in and it was Yanus and Yumbrus who said the words about the golden calves that emerged (12 calves of gold emerged for each tribe and one main one),'These are your gods O Israel.'
So Bilaam hated Israel with a passion . Even though he would not have been born had it not been for Yaakov blessing Lavan's house to have sons that bore him,yet instead of gratitude, he hated us.The same with Balak, whose Moabite nation would also not have been, if it wasn't for Avraham saving Lot. Both Balak and Balaam both owed their existence to our people, yet they wanted our harm Chas Ve Shalom .
So, Balak sent emissaries a number of times to bring Bilaam to curse the Jews and finally, against HaShem's Will, Bilaam went, hoping to change G-D's Mind . G-D told Bilaam that our Jewish people are Blessed and he may not curse them .But Bilaam was intent on going , so G-D let him go only on condition that he not curse the people, yet evil Bilaam had other ideas.
While Bilaam was on his way , a miraculous event took place where an angel stood three times with a sword drawn in his hand to impede Bilaam on his journey on the road as he rode his donkey. The first time Bilaam's donkey saw the angel and Bilaam struck his donkey, it went to the side, veering off into a field. The second time, the donkey banged Bilaam's foot against a wall mound. This was supposed to be a reminder to Bilaam not to go further in his intentions for ,it was this very mound that previously, Yaakov and Lavan had set up a mound and made a pact not to go past it and hurt each other. This still did not stop Bilaam. On the third time the donkey was impeded, it stopped and could go no further as this time the angel blocked the way completely. It was now that HaShem opened up the mouth of the donkey ( that was made at Creation ) and it spoke to Bilaam . This still did not stop Bilaam , for Bilaam still continued on his journey .
He and Balak set up different altars in different places , trying to find some sin in Israel , that Bilaam could use to bring HaShem's anger against us , yet all Bilaam kept seeing was holiness and morality for the Jews were so modest, that even their tents were set up so that one family tent's opening never faced another's tent opening , keeping family Tznius private .
Each time Bilaam tried to curse our people , HaShem made it a Blessing. We can see what Bilaam's curses were intended to be by him , by the Blessings HaShem turned them into .
In the end all Bilaam could do was set up an evil plan to entice the men to sin by getting them to come out of their stations to a market that had been set up in Shittim and then to be enticed to do what the Moabite and Midianite females enticed them to do, to baal peor their idol .
Sadly , some did get enticed and a plague broke out among the Children of Israel killing 24 000. Even Shelumiel Ben Tzurishadai - Zimri, the leader of the Tribe of Simeon, brought Balak's daughter Kozbi (who was also set up to entice Moshe), into Zimri's tent in front of Moses with no shame for our beloved Moshe's honor .
It was a Levite Pinchas, related to Moshe who took up the courage and a spear and killed them both and the plague was stayed.
HaShem protects our people with a love that goes beyond beauty. All we need to do to uphold this love, is to obey HaShem's every Word and Commandment . Though Bilaam tried to promote evil against our people Chas Ve Shalom , G-D caused it to be turned around and become Blessings for us . Every little bit of good we do, can have far reaching positive consequences. Like Avraham, who saddled his donkey early for the Akeidah for Holiness when Avraham took Yitzchak to the Akeidah, so did it bring kavod for us against Bilaam who saddled his donkey early for evil . Everything we do, has far reaching consequences that are beyond what we can see.
We need to keep every step we do as a step toward G-D and G-Dliness. Our choices we make, must be choices toward HaShem and His Torah Truth.
HaShem loves His people. So must we serve HaShem as HaShem Wants us to serve Him .
It is our choices and actions that deem our future positive. Each Torah Law brings us closer to HaShem and His destination of Creation . The Beginning is always in the End and the End is always in the Beginning. To reach the End of HaShem's Destination for Creation , we need to follow HaShem's Laws in the Beginning of Creation for Torah was written before Creation . Torah was written 2000 years before Creation and is the Wisdom and Blueprint of Creation . To bring Creation to where G-D Intends it to go, means to follow HaShem's Blueprint of Creation - HaShem's Torah is a lighthouse, guiding us like a ship, safely back to HaShem's Shore .May we always follow it with all our heart and all our soul and might.
May HaShem Continue to Watch over our people and See that no harm ever comes to us. May we do the same for HaShem and see that we never upset HaShem and always keep HaShem's Torah Commandments.
With love to HaShem , I wish HaShem with love , a beautiful Holy Shabbos Kodesh with love and to all my fellow Yidden, a beautiful Holy Shabbos Kodesh with love.

Parashas Chukas

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Chukas where HaShem instructs Moshe on one of the Chukim,a Law Decree Chok that goes beyond our logical understanding of its meaning. Here,HaShem talks of the Red Heifer that purifies from the strongest Tum'a impurity yet makes impure those involved in its preparation. Our Rabbis have suggested many reasons for this but only HaShem Knows its true meaning. There are other Chukim too that our Midrash points out with the word Chok within its mention in the Torah, like the offering sent to Azazel on Yom Kippur that purified K'lal Yisrael yet defiled the one who took the offering away; The Laws of Shaatnez where wool and linen garments are not to be mixed ,yet it is allowed in the Garment of Tzitzis;the laws of Yibum, where a man marries his brother's wife if his brother passes away with no children, even though it is an Aveirah to marry one's brother's wife and this Chok of the Para Aduma, the Red Heifer that purifies from the strongest impurity, an Avi Avos Hatum'a yet made the person who carried it an Av Hatum'a , a lesser level of impurity but still impure.
Our Rabbis suggested many possible reasons for this Chok like it had a link with the Chait Ha Aigel the golden calf,no one really knows truly why.Only HaShem .
So why would HaShem give us certain Laws and not explain why? Is it not human nature to want to know why, before we do something. Is it not human nature to need a reason before we obey?
Perhaps therein lies a possible answer.
If we truly love G-D , do we really need logic and an answer to satisfy us?Is it really about us? No. It is and always should be , about HaShem .And therein lies one of the possible answers to the Chukim.HaShem possibly asks us to do things that we have no logic for and gain nothing by,even our own satisfaction of 'Why' so that we can perform that which He Asks of us out of pure and faithful love for Him , without us gaining anything at all out of it and without us gaining any personal satisfaction of the 'Why.' This would be a true show of love for G-D , to obey Him just because He asks us to . Our love for Him is reason enough for now .
Though there are only a few specific Chukim mentioned directly in the Torah, the entire Torah is truly at its depth, so far beyond our human understanding to even delve a bit deeper. We need to study the Torah constantly so that we can gain deeper understandings into its meaning and touch a part of HaShem's Holiness. In fact all the Laws of the Torah , though they may seem understandable, all have deeper meanings. Thus HaShem tells us to meditate into the Torah and delve into the Torah by studying and following the Torah,so that we can start to understand its deeper meanings and come closer to HaShem .
The whole of Creation is actually a Chok, something far beyond our level of understanding. We don"t truly know HaShem's Reason for Creation. We can guess at logical answers to Creation , but only HaShem truly knows 'Why.'The link between Creation and the Chukim (where both are beyond our understanding),can be seen in Gematriah where the word Chukim in Gematriah comes to 8+100+400=508 and 5+8 = 13 and 1+3 = 4 and the word 'Bereishis ( At the beginning first word of the Torah that means 'In The Beginning,' that is the word representing Creation) where the word 'Bereishis,' in Gematriah comes to 2+200+1+300+10+400 = 913 and 9+1+3 =13 (like the word Chukim) and 1+3 = 4 which is the same as the bringing down smaller , the Gematriah of the word 'Chukim .' So the word 'Bereishis' and the word 'Chukas' both break down to 13 and then to 4 , showing that Creation too is like a Chok, beyond our understanding .
HaShem , Who Created Creation and Who is G-D , is so far beyond our understanding . We can only learn about HaShem through His Torah and His Creation , remembering that Torah is the Blueprint of His Creation. All is in it and to find true treasure, it can only be found in HaShem's Torah for Creation, that is like a Chok , so far beyond our limited understanding , can only start to be realized by delving deeply into Torah for the sweetest and most precious of all , HaShem is to be found within Torah Creation as Torah is the Blueprint of His Creation . The deepest we can ever go is HaShem and though we can never ever reach Him , we can get closer to Him every day .HaShem wants to have a relationship with His Creation . As His Creation , we need to walk toward Him always and have the relationship with HaShem that HaShem has always wanted. Our destination , by following His Laws and Chukim must always be to walk toward HaShem Who Is The Ultimate to where we need to go .Let your heart and soul love G-D beyond yourself and follow HaShem for HaShem's wish and realize that our own wants and needs are so minimal and small compared to the Creator HaShem's request of us that will take Creation to where only HaShem Knows where it needs to go . Let your every action and word in HaShem's Creation,be for HaShem .
With faithful love to HaShem , I wish HaShem with love, a beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love and to my fellow Yidden , a beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love.

Parashas Korach

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Korach.
Korach, who was the son of Yitzhar from the holy Kehas Levite tribe got together with Datan and Aviram from the tribe of Reuvain.Datan and Aviram were the ones whom Moshe had told to stop arguing with each other in Egypt the day after Moshe had saved Datan from being hit by the Egyptian, when Moshe had killed the Egyptian to save Datan. It was also this same Datan and Aviram who had reported Moshe to Pharoah, both from the tribe of Reuvain. The tribe of Reuvain was their neighbor ,according to how they traveled in their tribal Degalim.Korach ,along with two hundred and fifty men of high status joined with Datan and Aviram and Korach and his two hundred and fifty followers with Datan and Aviram went against Moshe and Aharon, accusing Moshe of favoring his own direct family when choosing Aharon as the Kohein Gadol and also accused Moshe of making up Laws.
How true that who we are ,is within our name.Korach ,a man of division, brought division among the people.Within the Hebrew word Korach, are the Hebrew words 'Kareach and Kerach,' which mean ,'Bald,Bare and Ice.'The head of Korach showed division, for the hair on Korach's head separated into two divisions on either side of his head with no hair in the middle, which was 'bare.'He cooled the fervor of Holiness of the people in their faithful following of HaShem and HaShem's Laws like 'Ice,' and thus laid the people bare in his distancing people in his day, from HaShem at this incident. How suitable a name, did Korach have.
But who was this Korach?Korach was a Levite,in a high family, related to Moshe and Aharon and his high position was not enough for him.It was not enough for him that he worked near the sanctuary of HaShem in the presence of Moshe.Korach wanted it all.He foresaw that he would have righteous descendants and so,he felt himself worthy of the position of Kohein Gadol and thus ,he contested Aharon's right to the High Priesthood.
Korach had become a very wealthy man in Mitzraim (Egypt) and was given a position in Pharoah's treasury. He had also found hidden riches from Yosef's time and thus thought himself as one for greatness, not in a hurry to leave Egypt.
Along with Korach,Datan and Aviram, another man had joined them and his name was On son of Peles ,but he was not among those were were punished and this was due to his wife and daughter's holiness.
Here we come to a very crucial part of this Parsha that is not often spoken of.The Holiness of a Religious Wife that can save her husband- the difference between a wife of moral purity and one who completely lacks Tznius and holiness.
I refer here to the wife of Korach who helped lead her husband to downfall and the wife of On,who saved her husband due to her faith in HaShem.
The wife of Korach constantly pushed her husband to try attain more glory and a higher office. She would repeatedly question what her husband had done and learnt from Moshe ,when her husband would return at the end of the day and joined with him in putting Moshe down and pushing for a higher status. When Korach returned from his work of a holy Levite, she would question what he did that day and in him telling her, he himself would respond with wanting more glory.Korach, who already was against Moshe just needed a little push from his wife,to push him over the edge and so, Korach went to all the tribes, persuading members to join his rebellion. He decided to approach Moshe on a Torah question of Tzitzis and its Techeiles Blue Strand and blatantly came before Moshe with his followers all wearing garments that were completely of the color blue.Even Korach's followers disagreed among themselves ,for machlokes creates more strife.Korach verbally attacked Moshe and Aharon and Moshe tried to stop their rebellion, asking them to appear the following morning with their fire-pans and incense to see whom HaShem chooses.
On Ben Peles was also about to go and join them but, opposite to Korach's wife,On's wife gave him something to drink that put him to sleep and she sat with her daughter at the entrance to their tent with their hair uncovered, knowing that when Korach's followers would come to call On, they would turn away for modest reasons so as not to look upon a woman's hair. This is what happened and On was saved the punishment of Korach and his followers, when the bottom entrance of Gehinnom opened to swallow Korach and his followers who were not part of the two hundred and fifty men and their possessions with them.A flame descended and consumed the bodies and souls of the two hundred and fifty men that had come with Korach.Even when the pit opened to try swallow On,his wife held onto him and prayed to HaShem to spare him and so, he was saved.
Such is the difference between a wife of holiness and one who isn't holy.It is the wife that can bring her husband to HaShem in holiness. It is the wife that is the most precious gift a man can be given by HaShem .
When HaShem Created Adam, He subsequently gave him Chava and called her his 'Eizer K'Negdo,'- 'His helpmate corresponding to him opposite him.' Why 'Opposite to him?' For a wife is not there to be his servant or slave, but to assist him to climb to HaShem by showing him his wrongs which he himself cannot see and so, he can then work to fix them. She is there as his equal so as to carry him ever forward toward G-D .She is to be his helpmate that helps him work on his soul so it can press ever forward to follow HaShem's Commandments.
The night before Korach and his followers brought their fire-pans,Moshe still tried to save the situation by walking himself all the way to Datan and Aviram's tent to try persuade them from their path but they hurled insults at him even though he ,the great Moshe Rabbeinu ,had humbled himself to come to them.Moshe hoped that that night,Korach and his followers would change their mind. But they didn't.
Korach and his party saw the error of their ways and so, we can forever learn to trust in HaShem and live for Him and not for our own wants and needs and to be forever content with our lot, for HaShem knows best.Korach's own need for glory blinded him to the facts and so, his attempts to bring strife, really hit him when he tried to bring strife among the Jewish people and when he tried to contest the chosen leaders of HaShem .It was Korach's sons who survived and became righteous men and on every Yom Sheni -the second day of the week that we say Psalm 48 ,written by the holy sons of Korach, for it was on the second day of Creation that HaShem split the Heavens and the Earth ,which was a separation between the Physical and the Spiritual realms that must learn to work together.Separation and strife is a destroyer of all that is around us and it is only through peace in the World and an acknowledgement that Only HaShem is G-D and the promotion of peace among people and husband and wife, that Creation can reach its intended destiny.
HaShem Saw to it that for all generations the Priest-hood and His choice would not be contested, by performing the miracle of causing Aharon's staff to blossom with blossoms and almonds at the same time.Whom HaShem chooses is to always be respected and what HaShem Wants is to always be followed.
We need to learn to keep peace between HaShem and His Creation by bringing the Light of HaShem to all and making this Creation, a place of dwelling among us , for HaShem .
May there always be peace among Creation and may the World come to follow HaShem united in His Oneness always.
With Love to HaShem, I wish HaShem with Sweetness and Love,a Sweet Shabbos Kodesh with love and to all my fellow Yidden, a sweet Shabbos Kodesh with love.

Parashas Shelach

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Shelach.
This Parsha always comes a few weeks before the three week mourning period that starts out on the 17th of Tammuz and ends on the day of our greatest mourning, the Ninth of the month of Av - Tisha B' Av , for it was on this fateful day of Tisha B ' Av, that our people wept and cried about the negative report of the spies that we speak of , in this Parsha.
Parashas Shelach starts out with the sending of the Spies to the Holy Land , to spy out the land.
There was no need to send spies in the first place for had we trusted in HaShem, all would have been sweet and we would have entered the land that flowed with 'milk and honey' ,straight away, instead of wandering in the wilderness for forty years,a day for a year for each day of the forty days that the spies spied out the land and brought their negative report.
Our Parsha on the surface starts out looking as though HaShem asks Moshe to send the spies but if we look deeper,we see that HaShem tries to lessen the way the Spies looked bad ,out of his pure Love and so it appears as though HaShem Asked, but HaShem actually did not.
HaShem says 'Shelach Lecha,' which means ,'Send For You,' not for Me, HaShem, but for you,for the people.HaShem made it clear to Moshe that HaShem did not want the spies to go, but HaShem said if you send them then 'Send them for you, Not For Me .' Even within the words 'Shelach,' - 'Send,' this word has within it ,'Shel Lach,' - 'For You,' Not for Me HaShem .HaShem gave us a beautiful and sweet land and HaShem made it very clear that He did not want to send the spies so if we wished to send them, it is us that wants it ,Not Him .
So , within the words ,'Shelach Lecha,' we have 'Shelach ' and Lecha ,' as if to say send for you - for you . Why the two 'for you's .' The two 'For You's' refer to the spy's wish and Moshe's request . Moshe trusted HaShem wholeheartedly, so when Moshe requested the people to be able to go,after the people had approached Moshe to have him ask HaShem, Moshe's true intention was that if they could go, they would see for themselves what a beautiful gift the land was that HaShem was giving us.Moshe's intention was a pure one, for the people to praise HaShem's Goodness. HaShem though Knew better.
The people on the other hand, feared wars with the nations in Canaan and wanted to hold on to HaShem's Goodness in having all their needs provided for without their need to worry for anything.
They approached Moshe and persuaded him to approach HaShem .
So HaShem said to Moshe 'Send them for you all, not for Me.'
There were twelve spies and before the spies left, ten of them already planned that they would bring back a slanderous negative report of the land. The other two spies Joshua, whose name,Moshe had changed from Hoshea to Yehoshuah (adding a Yud of HaShem's Name , to give him strength against the other spies) and Kalev ,stood with HaShem throughout , fighting the negativity of the other ten spies.
The spies traveled through the land and throughout , all but Joshua and Kalev, looked for reasons to prove that the land was filled with enemies and epidemic Chas Ve Shalom. This was not the truth, for the fruits were luscious and tasty and large and the milk of the land was so abundant, that it flowed like streams.
In truth, HaShem was preparing to destroy the nations within ,via different means, including the three giants that lived there, but the spies looked to slander all they saw. When the spies entered the land, the last of the righteous people that lived in Canaan at the time,Iyov-Job, died (on the day that they started entering into the land) thus there was no one left in the land ,whose merit could have saved the nations that were there,so HaShem was already working to help them but all they wanted to see,was negativity. While Kalev was visiting the Caves of Machpelah visiting the Fore-Fathers and Fore-Mothers Holy Resting Place and Joshua arguing with the other spies negativity to try and change their negativity to correct the wrong they were trying to do and have them have faith in HaShem, the spies were doing all they could do to shun all the beauty that they saw.
After the forty days were up, the spies returned and went straight to Moshe's tent and slandered the land, starting off falsely, with the beautiful grapes they had brought ,showing how large and 'strange' the fruits were and the powerful enemies they would have to fight and ended with saying the most painful thing about this precious gift of land that HaShem wanted to give us , saying 'it is a land that devours its inhabitants.' How painful that must have been for HaShem and Moshe to hear.Though Joshua and Kalev tried to praise the land, the other spies just shouted them down, wanting to stone them.
The slander spread from tent to tent like wild fire and throughout this night, the night of the Ninth of Av,there was wailing and crying.
HaShem saw this and their wailing and lack of trust in Him and so,decided, that on this night they chose to cry for no reason, so throughout the centuries they would have reason to wail. Thus became the terrible sadness of the the Ninth of Av , for on every year thereafter till almost when their children finally again reached the land , the people would ,on this night, dig their graves and die in them 15 000 a night till the last year of the forty years in the wilderness, where the people finally stopped dying by this decree and on that night the people never died. For the next six days thereafter, the people ,thinking they had miscalculated the date, came to the graves they dug and were still alive in the morning.By this Fifteenth of Av, they realized by the full moon, that their date calculations must be correct and that no doubt the Ninth of Av had certainly passed and so they rejoiced on the Fifteenth of Av that HaShem had finally relented.
For this reason our people celebrate the Fifteenth of Av as a festival.
The ten spies died instantly unlike the others between certain ages up to sixty , who died at this time during the sojourn in the Wilderness, for HaShem had decreed that all those who shunned the land, would not enter it.
Joshua and Kalev as well as the Levites and also the women entered the land after the forty years, for they did not slander the land. There were some who tried to enter the land after HaShem's Decree at this time even though Moshe warned them, that HaShem would not be with them yet they did not listen and were killed on the mountain by Amalek and the Canaanites.
This incident of the spies is such an upsetting one for it shows how even the most devout, can lose faith in HaShem and how slander of anyone and anything and lack of faith in HaShem and lack of following HaShem's Laws , can cause evil that can reach far into the future .Faith in HaShem and trust in His Word needs to be ever foremost .
G-D constantly wants to shower us with His Gifts. All we need to do is trust Him and have faith in His Love and It will always Shine Through. His Love is forever and so must be our love and obedience to His Wish and Will . We are too small to know what is truly and ultimately good and so, the most beautiful thing we can ever do for His Gift of Creation which is also His wanting and Deep Need to Give His Kindness out to all , is to follow His Every Word and Wish and to put our own desires aside for Him and His Creation Gift .
When we lose faith , Chas Ve Shalom , we 'Shelach,' give to ourselves and our own wish- 'for you' as HaShem said not 'for Him .' Thus to prevent slander and going on the wrong path, we must always 'Give to G-D,' for G-D and do all things for G-D and not us and our own needs.
Let us keep it forever in our minds that if not for HaShem Creating us and all things, nothing would be here to enjoy and be . Let our wishes and thoughts always be directed Heaven-Ward toward Our most Beautiful and One and Only Creator af all things HaKadosh Baruch Hu , The Holy One Blessed Be He .
With Faithful and Ever Endearing Love to HaShem , I wish HaShem with Love , a most Beautiful and Precious Shabbos Kodesh with Love and to all my fellow Yidden, a beautiful and precious Shabbos Kodesh with love.
