Ki Tissa

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Ki Tissa .
Here,HaShem instructs that we are to be counted in a census -'Ki Tissa,' by each soul rich or poor, giving half a shekel - a relatively small amount as an atonement for our soul .
How interesting. That HaShem chooses the word 'Ki Tissa,' in reference to the word census, when the Hebrew word for census is 'Mifkad.'What is HaShem trying to teach us here .The word 'Tissa,' has within it the Hebrew word 'Tash,' which means 'Become weak or weaken.' HaShem knows that alone we are weak, but when we stand together as two , we become strong, physically and spiritually .HaShem instructs that we each give a half shekel which is half of a whole .So when two Jews would give their half shekel ,it would become a full one shekel. .It would become one .Apart one is weak, but together we are strong for as Shlomo Hamelech says. ,when one falls another can pick him up .A single branch is easier broken if it is alone but with another together strength is stronger . This also goes for the concept of Gevurah in Kabbalah .Gevurah is not just the strength to do the Mitzvos but also the strength to stop ourselves doing wrong .When one stands alone , one does not always realize one's wrong, but together we can help each other better ourselves and come closer to HaShem . No Jew is an Island . Our Rabbis teach us that the aveirahs of a person are quicker forgiven when we Daven - Pray in a Minyan,a quorom of ten adult males over the age of Barmitzvah .To stand alone is to stand alone before G-D but to stand with others is to stand with the merits of the whole community that can lift us up as well. To become one with our fellow Jew , is to become one with the One and Only True G-D and Creator HaShem Hakadosh Baruch Hu - HaShem The Holy One Blessed Be He .
In this Parsha we have the sad happening where the people miscalculate the forty days that Moshe is away and presume that he is not returning .How important it is to keep a proper 'Tissa,'-'Counting,' by trusting in how HaShem Counts and having faith in HaShem .The Eirev Rav - the mixed multitude of the Egyptians stirred up the people to a fervor in believing they needed a representative to continue leading them and get the people to want to build a Golden Calf . Chur ,related to Miriam ,tried desperately to stop them, but they stoned him to death .They insisted that Aharon build it for them, even though Aharon knew Moshe will return so he asked of them, their gold hoping this will delay them as they wouldn't want to give it ,but sadly he was wrong .The women refused out of faithfulness to HaShem and HaShem rewarded the women for all time, with putting Rosh Chodesh day in their honor .Yunus and Yumbrus (the two sons of Bilaam) , managed to get hold of the scroll on which Moshe wrote the words 'Alei Shor' - 'Arise Ox ' as Yosef was called , for he stuck to Torah even while in Exile and that Moshe had used in order to bring up Yosef's bones from the Nile when they were leaving Egypt ,and read it out while the gold was in the furnace . A golden live ox emerged bleating and able to walk and with it, twelve other golden oxen for each tribe and the Eirev Rav said to Israel , 'these are your gods oh Israel .'
The people sadly debased themselves .The Levites and some of the Tzaddikim did not join them .
At this time , holy Moshe was being given the Ten Commandments , written on the two Saphire Luchos .Writing from G-D where the letters floated in the tablets ( like the letter Samech and Mem Sofit who's inside doesn't touch the outside of the letter or the frame it is in) suspended by the miracle of G-D .
HaShem sent Moshe down telling him 'Thy people have corrupted themselves ,'referring to the Eirev Rav who Moshe wanted to bring along to be kind and also to the Children of Israel for Moshe was our leader.Moshe begged HaShem for their mercy. As Moshe descended and found his faithful Yehoshuah waiting for him all forty days at the foot of the mountain ,they came down together and the site of what they saw was too much to bare . The letters on the Luchos left the Tablets and floated back up to Heaven and Moshe felt HaShem's anger wanting to destroy the people for HaShem could not abide His Holy writing in a place of Tum'a - Ritual Impurity .The elders of the people sensed Moshe's feelings of letting go of the tablets and they ran to him to try wrestle it from his hands . Moshe held on to them and thinking that if the people get the Luchos ,they will be judged more harshly as a married woman who is unfaithful to her husband after receiving the marriage contract (would thus be judged more harshly),so to save them , Moshe lifted up his hands and broke the Luchos .
Our beloved Moshe again went up to pray for our mercy and even though HaShem offered to make Moshe a great nation , Moshe stayed faithful to us and pleaded for our forgiveness .
HaShem said to Moshe ,'Leave My Presence that I May destroy them in an instant,' so Moshe knew that this was his cue that only if he would leave would HaShem destroy them so Moshe stayed and fought for us and this pleading continues to save us till today .
We ,each of us are accountable to count every action we do and purify ourselves every day but we know that we have weaknesses and thus must stand together with our fellow Jews making up that 'full shekel,' and becoming one together, with The One and Only G-D . Alone ,we are weak ,but together with our fellow Jews , we stand strong under the Shechinah of HaShem .
HaShem , in His Wisdom , foresaw the actions of the 'Chait Ha Eigel,' - 'The Sin of the Golden Calf,' and so , before-hand helped us by asking us to donate a half shekel to atone for our souls ,showing how each and every part of HaShem's Creation is equally precious to HaShem and to show that when we stand together with our fellow Jew , we can help them with correcting them to be more holy as they can correct us and sharing all our merits with each other to help each other and so , carry each other toward HaShem .
HaShem's Mercy is infinite . May our love for Him be infinite too .
With infinite love to HaShem , I wish HaShem with love a forever beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love and to all my fellow Yidden , a beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love .

Parashas Tetzaveh

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Tetzaveh where HaShem Commands Moshe to 'Tetzaveh' - 'Command' the Children of Israel to take 'pure pressed olive oil' for kindling the lamps. It was was only the first press of olive oil that was to be acceptable-the one totally pure and free of sediment. This was to be an eternal decree. This Parsha discusses the Bigdei Kehunah, the Garments of the Kohanim that were worn by the Kohein Gadol and Kohanim that showed total Holiness, from the head down. The Kohein Gadol's Garments consisted of The Mitznefes-Turban,The Tzitz-Head-Plate ,The Choshen-The Breast-Plate,The Avnait-The Belt,The Aifod-The Apron,The Michnasaim-The Breeches,The Me'il-The Mantle and the The Ketones-The Long Shirt as our Sages and Midrash explain. Each part of the Kohein's clothes atoned for something speciific and each part had a very deep significance. The Kohein, like the olive oil that lit the Lamp, had to be Holy and Pure. The very fact that the first squeeze of oil from inside the olive was the only one used, shows that one's very centre within had to be pure and the Holy Garments of the Kohein Gadol showed the Holiness that came from within, outwards so that, the purity and holiness of the Kohein Gadol was the same within as the outer face that he showed.
This is how we are to be .It is so wrong to show a holy face, but within,to be the opposite .We are to be Holy, from our Souls, outwards and draw people to HaShem . The Soul that is given by HaShem is eternal. The Lamp that was to be lit eternally was like the Soul we are given to live. The lamp is like the soul within us. The word 'Tetzaveh,' means 'To Command.'The 'Tet' in this tense in the word 'Tetzaveh,' refers to the future tense .Within the first verse of this Parsha HaShem gives a deeper Command.HaShem is not just Commanding for then.HaShem is giving a 'Future Tense' Command to the Children of Israel for all time to come out with our 'first pressed most pure olive oil' of ourselves and offer that to HaShem Eternally for all Generations. When we offer to HaShem,it must always be our first fruits-our best . Our first actions must always be directed to HaShem. The very best that we can possibly offer, must always be given to G-D .Seeing that we are constantly surrounded by G-D ,we are to always display our most Holy and Pure Being to G-D .We belong to G-D .Our very purpose for life must be directed to HaShem's Wants .Not our own .Seeing that HaShem can see us within as well as on the outside ,both our inner and outer garments must always reflect the same and equal holiness . HaShem asks us to emulate Him . HaShem is Beyond Holy in every part of Him .So must we be Holy inside and outside .
We mustn't just be a picture of Holiness on the outside yet inside be the opposite Chas Ve Shalom . We must continually light the lamp within our Soul and let it always shine Heaven-ward toward G-D .
On the 'Bigdey Kohein Gadol's Garments' -'The High Priest's Garments,'that he wore over his front touching his chest,he wore the Choshen, the Breatplate that contained the twelve stones that each represented a specific Tribe of the Twelve Tribes of Israel .These were arranged in three vertical rows representing our Three Fore-Fathers and in each row down, there were four horizontal rows representing our Four Mothers. Each stone had a specific meaning to the tribe it represented and even the Hebrew letters of the Hebrew alphabet were also on the breastplate stones in the form of the sentence 'Avraham,Yitzchak Yaakov Shivtei Yeshurun' -these letters spread out on the Choshen,so that each of the twelve portions of the Choshen had six letters inscribed on its stone.Between the two layers of the folded Choshen, was the Urim Ve 'Tumim ,which was the scrolls of parchment, where Moshe had written HaShem's Seventy Two Letter Name as our Midrash teaches us .When questions would be asked of the Kohein Gadol, the letters of the Hebrew Alphabet would light up via the Urim Ve 'Tumim to spell out the answer.
The Holiness of the Kohein Gadol and His Garments was a representation for our entire people that we too must always behave in a Holy way inside and outside . We are to be HaShem's Representatives to open up this World to His Holy Light that is to shine down to this Earth .
The Lamp of our Soul is to be always and eternally lit with HaShem and His Commandments , that are to come out on our very Physicality so that the Physical (The Clothes-the Outer Appearance that we wear to the World ) can join with the Spiritual (our very Souls within that we are to eternally keep lit with HaShem ) so that the two can become one .
Becoming one joins us with HaShem and will make this entire World a place of G-D .
It all starts with 'Tetzaveh,' an eternal Command to our Children and our People , to walk in The Ways and The Commandments of HaShem .
With love , I wish HaShem with love a Beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love and to all my fellow Yidden, a beautiful Shabbos Kodesh wiith love.

Parashas Terumah

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Terumah.
In this Parsha,HaShem requests voluntarily that we bring what is needed to build the Mishkan and all its vessels. The word 'Terumah,' means 'Portion,' which shows that all of us are to share in the task of serving HaShem by all giving portions as part of the whole K'lal Yisrael so that all share in the giving to HaShem as equal fellow Jews ,to form One Whole people serving Our One True G-D .
In HaShem's Eyes , all are equal and we all have a portion of His Holy Neshoma within us . That portion is to be used to serve HaShem in love . We are not here to serve ourselves and our own needs .We are here as a portion of the whole, to make this World Holy together with everybody else ,so that HaShem can dwell in our midst .
HaShem makes the request to bring this portion,a voluntary one , for that is true giving . HaShem does not do things for our thanks .All the wonderful things Created for us every day are all Created by HaShem Who humbly keeps Himself unseen without requesting a thank you .It is up to us to open ourselves to Him and let Him in .
To those whose heart motivate, they are to bring the requested items , for to open ourselves up to HaShem , we are to open up our hearts and take HaShem into our hearts where our emotions can be filled with HaShem in everything we do .
It is not a forced giving, but as I said ,a voluntary one .It has to come from us . That is true love and faithfulness .
HaShem wants every Jew to contribute and thus be a part of Holiness and a part of HaShem .But they must choose to do so .In fact , the people gave in abundance to make sure the Mishkan and all its vessels were built . This showed the true deep need for HaShem's Creation to be close to its Creator .
The way this verse is phrased, where HaShem asks us to bring a portion, shows the depth of love that HaShem feels for us and wants us to feel for Him . HaShem says ,'VaYikchu Li Terumah,' - ' Take for Me a portion.' In other words , from each us ,we are to take our very depth of love and give all to HaShem .We must not just give , but 'take' with eagerness even that which we may not want to give away ,and put all things at HaShem's service. That is true giving. The word 'Take' is used instead of 'Give,' to show a stronger form of giving with eagerness beyond our own wishes,Even our Yetzer Horahs must be overcome in serving HaShem and so , we are to go past our own personal wants and give HaShem beyond what we may feel to do and give .
As I said, this verse shows the depth of love that HaShem feels for us , for HaShem says 'Take for Me a portion,' for HaShem pleads here that we take Him as part of ourselves always, for He says to us, 'Take Me as a Portion of you .' In the taking,we too, will be taken by HaShem as a portion close to Him . HaShem here asks us to take Him as our portion in living and make our entire lives for His service . The entire Parsha deals with the beautiful construction of the Mishkan and all that go along with the Sanctuary .Each and every Holy part and each dimension of each Holy part that goes into this making , has very deep meanings .How long and how wide and how high each part was to be , has a deep significance. . The finished Sanctuary from the inside , resembled Heaven on Earth , from the sky blue top , to the Shittim Wood covered walls ,that were covered as HaShem instructed and with its silver sockets and the gold coverings on the Holy articles ,the Sanctuary shone like the stars and Heaven .The Menorah that was to be hammered out from a single piece of gold, with all its knobs and cups allowed the beautiful light of HaShem to Bless the World . The Shulchan - Table with the Lechem Ha Pannim , the 12 loaves that were held on it,made on every Shabbos ,Blessed the World for nourishment ,while the bread from the previous week stayed as fresh as the day it was baked. .The Shulchan represented Kingship and our need to control our physical wants so that we can reach higher spiritually. The Golden altar and Copper altar brought the essence of forgiveness and love from HaShem .With the very name of the word 'Altar,' in Hebrew, which is 'Mizbeach,' it showed the very love HaShem had for His people for each of the four root letters (as our Midrash tells us) that made up the word 'Mizbeach, had a meaning. The Mem stood for the word Mechila, which means forgiveness, the Zayin stood for the word Zechus, which means Merit. The Bet stood for the word Brocha, which means Blessing and the Chet, stood for the word Chayim, which means Life.
The very Aron where the Luchos were kept, was covered in gold and was adorned with two 'Cherubim' - 'Keruvim' that would look toward each other (with the innocent faces of a boy and a girl with their wings facing each other) when HaShem was pleased with his people and would look away from each other when HaShem was upset with His people .It was between these two Cherubim (Keruvim) that the Shechinah of HaShem rested .
All HaShem wants from us is to be at one with us and dwell among us ,walking with us as He did with Adam in the beginning .But for this to happen , we need to choose to open ourselves up to HaShem and let His Holy Light fill our hearts and souls .
The entire Sanctuary that was built in the Wilderness resembled HaShem's 'Kisay Hakavod' -'Holy Throne of Glory,' that is above , so by making this Holy Sanctuary and all it contained , we were actually making a place in the physical realm for the spiritual to come down and be at one in peace .All were to contribute their portions showing that Jews are to stand as one and that each Jew has value as part of the One Nation of Israel . True peace is when the physical and spiritual come together as one to serve HaShem . As HaShem told us , we are to make for Him a Sanctuary and as these words suggest , we are to to make our very selves a Sanctuary that HaShem can dwell within each and every one of us .We will thus each make ourselves into a Terumah - a portion home for HaShem's Shechinah and when we all come together as one , under HaShem our Creator , we will literally be HaShem's home in this World .
Our 'Terumah,' - Our 'Portion' is HaShem and HaShem has given us the pathway to Him as HaShem says in this very Parsha of Shemos Chaf Hei :Chet (25:8), 'Ve'Asu Li Mikdash VeShachanti B'Tocham,'-'They shall make for Me a Sanctuary so that I may dwell among them ,' and in the Hebrew the words are clear for this verse also deeply can be rendered,'They shall make of themselves a Sanctuary for Me HaShem ,so that I may dwell among them.'
With deepest love, I wish HaShem with love, a beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love and to all my fellow Yidden , a beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love .

Parashas Mishpatim

Our Parsha this Shabbos is Parashas Mishpatim which deal with the Ordinances that G-D gave to us .
The Parsha starts with a 'Ve' and is written 'Ve'Eileh Ha Mishpatim,' showing us that this Parsha is a 'carry on ' from the previous Parsha of the Ten Commandments showing us that G-D gave these laws while the people were still at Har Sinai.
HaShem Speaks of putting these Ordinances before us -'Asher Tasim Lifneihem,' so that these Laws will be what we see as we go forward on our own personal journeys through life. It is through G-D's Laws that we are to see through as our point of view wherever we go and what ever we do . G-D's Laws are the pathway of behaviour through which we must always travel ,wherever we go and whatever situation we find ourselves . G-D's Laws and Ordinances are our aid through life , to always know how to act and in what way to be ,in this World , so that we can get this World to where G-D wants it to spiritually and physically go .
G-D sees all things and is always there ,in the brightness of day and even in the darkness of night . So we must never think that we are alone and ever have thoughts that no one will see what we do . G-D sees all . G-D loves us all and wants us to be our own 'Judge ' to ensure that His ordinances are kept .We see this concept within the name of this Parsha ,for within the Hebrew word 'Mishpatim,' is the Hebrew Word 'Shofet,' which means ,'a Judge.' In keeping the Ordinances of G-D , we are to be our own Judge to ensure that we uphold the Laws of G-D . G-D gives us free choice .We can decide whether we want a life of meaning that goes to G-D , or a life that is wasted that doesn't .The choice is always ours . G-D gives us His Mishpatim , His Ordinances and wants us to be a constant Shofet - Judge of ourselves and make sure with the independence of trust that G-D graciously gives us , that we don't abuse that trust and never disappoint HaShem by always doing that which G-D asks of us to do , His Ordinances , and be a Judge on ourselves to make sure we keep that which G-D asks us to keep. Keeping HaShem's Mishpatim - Ordinances which are HaShem's Gift that will lead us to HaShem in love .
HaShem made each and every one of us . It is HaShem only that we are to serve . There is no other force but G-D .There is no other power but G-D .G-D is All .The first Mishpat that HaShem mentions in this Parsha is about the Jewish Bondsman . And one of the lessons here is to treat that bondsman with respect , better than we would treat ourselves .This is the way of HaShem .The way we treat HaShem as His servants , is so far less than how HaShem treats us. HaShem gives us all . HaShem is an Amazing Master and Yiddishkeit is an amazing truth, for only here , are we taught that even those working for us,need be treated with honor as HaShem treats us. The lesson also in this Parsha on the Jewish Bondsman also teaches that the Bondman is to go free in the seventh year , a reminder that all people are not servants to anyone but G-D Almighty . The bondsman that chooses to remain under a human master, is brought to a door and reminded via an awl through his ear, that he must remember the freeing of our people to only be under G-D and the reminder comes to his ear via an awl. And a door to remind him of the sign on the doorposts that we put when we became free from our human masters , to serve G-D alone .This again shows that the Mishpatim - Ordinances are there to free us from human dominion and to serve only G-D and follow only G-D's Laws , being our own 'Shofet,' - 'Judge,' to ensure that we keep HaShem's Mishpatim with love .
The path of HaShem's Mishpatim must always be looked upon in their correct perspective, which is to lead us out of this physicality and take us toward G-D . That is the purpose of life . We are not just to bring Heaven down to Earth .We are also to bring Earth up to Heaven by climbing ever forward with the gift of G-D's Mishpatim that are there to lead us to HaShem Whom we love.
With love to HaShem , I wish HaShem with love , a sweet and beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love and to my fellow Yidden, a sweet and beautiful Shabbos Kodesh with love .
